Do any of you take Lisinopril by itself without a diuretic like HCTZ (hydrocortothiazide)? I got dehydrated 2 days ago & doctor has cut my HCTZ in half-- I felt light-headed, dizzy, pounding heartbeat like I was having a panic attack. I've been on this lisinopril/hctz combo for 3 months. I don't have any of the adverse allergic reactions (rash, itchiness, swelling) at all; nor do I have the cough thing at all. But weakness, chest-pounding heart, dizziness, fatigue all coming now daily. I wonder if our problem is the HCTZ, so is anybody on lisinopril WITHOUT HCTZ?

I am a 40 year old female and both my husband and I are taking Lisinopril 40 mg. I have mild tingling in my arms at night, however the tingling/ burning sensation is so great in my husband's arms that he can't sleep at night. His rest is continually interrupted by this uncomfortable sensation. I have noticed a host of things like tiredness, an occasional dry cough, feelings of depression, rapid heart beat, and lack of energy in myself. My husband has experienced all of the above and muscle pain and irritability. I thought his irritability was being caused by lack of sleep, but I have learned from this website that it may be yet another side effect of the medication. We both have to get off this. Thanks for all of your helpful comments.

Hello folks - thought I would post here as well.........I am on 20MG of LISINOPRIL 1 time daily. I notice during regimented times of the day I get the side effects. I take it when I wake up in the morning. I have been on this for about a year now...........it has lowered by HBP from 150's/80's to about 130/80..............regular........I am a 37 year old Male

Problem is the multiple side affects:

1. Tiredness - comes and goes all throughout the day - almost like I could just close my eyes and go to sleep anywhere.........feels like someone threw sand in my eyes.......
2. Shortness of breath
3. Sore Muscles - everywhere - it doesn't discriminate!!!!
4. Pain in the chest mostly the left side but sometimes the right
5. Headache in one spot in the head - doesn't last long
6. Wake up often in the middle of the night with dead hands or legs
7. Sometimes I just have a total memory blank on things I should know right away - usually only occurs when I'm getting tired.
8 Of course the panic from thinking something is wrong with me!!!

Anyone else with these set of symptoms????

Drop me a note!!!!

This was my husband's experience, not mine. He started Lisinopril in October of 2007. After one month he started having anxiety/panic attacks, started having trouble concentrating on reading (which he loved), his memory was shot, he didn't sleep well, he lost his sense of humor. After two months, in one week's time, he spiraled into such a deep depression that he ended up taking his own life. I'm convinced it was because of the combination of Lisinopril, diuretic and Statin he was taking. He was a different person after adding Lisinopril and Simvastatin to his diuretic medication.

I have been taking lisinopril now for about a year. Previously I was on a diuretic. My doctor says I have to take BP meds for the rest of my life. The pains in my body are getting so bad I can hardly function. They began between the shoulder blades. Now it is pressure in my left ear, pain down my neck to shoulder, down left arm, and the left side of my body seems to go to sleep. Even my hip complains. I'm in the process of moving and as soon as I get to my new location I'm off this stuff. ronni9@netzero.net

Just started taking lisinopril (2nd dose today, 20 mg) for HBP. I have had HBP for about 15 years. I was taking HCTZ, a diuretic, plus atenelol. That stuff makes you feel miserable, depressed, paranoid along with major constipation and very low potassium blood levels. I changed doctor and he has a completely different approach. So far my only side effect from lisinopril has been slight weakness in my lower jaw and the nagging dry cough. I guess you have to get used to these and other side effects. Anything is better than being depressed. Maybe the side effects will lessen as time goes by. I'm optimistic.

I have been taking lisinopril for years (10 mg/daily) without any noticable problems. About 2 months ago, my doctor doubled the dose and changed me to the version with HTCZ (a diuretic) included. A few weeks later, I started having this tickling sensation in my throat making me have a slight cough. The cough kept getting worse as the days went by and I also started having this congested feeling in my chest. I would cough my head off and it wasn't productive. I would cough until I would get dizzy and almost pass out.

I finally went to the doctor think I had some lung infection or TB. I was given a TB skin test, antiobiotics, and a chest x-ray. The TB test was negative, the chest x-ray was normal, and the antiobiotics don't seem to have changed anything.

I was back at the doctor yesterday and she said she think it's the lisinopril and switched me to Diovan. I started taking the Diovan this morning. Only time will tell if it is indeed the lisinopril that was the culprit.

I have been on Lisiopril HCTZ for a week and a half now and the stomach cramps, gurgling, bloating and gas started yesterday. It really scared me. I switched from Diovan because of simuliar pains. I thought I had gallstones because of the pinching cramping pains. (also have slightly elevated liver enzymes) I had a sonogram and everything looked normal.I have also had the painful neck/throat this past week and my shoulder muscles started cramping this morning. I am going to go back on my old propanolol and diuretic tomorrow, just long enough to show myself it is these awful BP pills. The doctor told me I need to quit reading the side effects on the RX label. I told him I had been doing that once I started having symptoms. When it says contact your Dr immediately if you have severe abdominal pain, I think I need to take that seriously and drop the Doctor who tells me to not read the drug phamplet! Oh, did I mention that I had the Rash from Hell show up too. Again, a side effect that says to contact your Dr immediately. The severe rash was while on the Diovan and lasted a full week.

Started Lisinopril a week ago (20mg) and so far, so good. Had been on HCTZ for several years but it really didn't work very well. My Doc, who is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and also practices Integrative and Holistic medicine, said that my blood test indicated that Diuretic BP meds are not what I need, rather, I need something to ease the tension in my circulatory system. Hence the Lisinopril. Only side effect so far is slight tingling in right hand and foot in the evenings. Not bothersom, just noticible. BP has gone from 195/105 to 128/18 so it's really working. I feel bad for those having bad side effects. It's working for me.

I took Lisinopril(10mg.) for the first time last week. Within 2 hours my neck started to hurt and stiffen. By the evening it was so stiff I couldn't turn my head and the pain was intense. I decided to not take another pill. The stiffness and pain took 5 days to lessen completely. My MD agreed it was not for me and I now taking a prescribed diuretic. Everyone should read the "Seattle Times" article on the standards for high blood pressure..

Within 2 days of beginning Lisinopril for an "elevated blood pressure event", I bagan to experience labored breathing, like I had just walked up 10 flights of stairs. And that was at rest! I had some anxiety and was generally lethargic. I also began experiencing severe cramps in my legs, feet, and toes. My arches would cramp so bad I coulld hardly stand it. I thought this might be related to the diuretic in the medication. I also experienced muscle weakness. I called my doctor who told me to take half a pill each day. The effects were basically the same at half the dosage! The breathing still labored, less cramping, but same feeling of tiredness and lethargy. I quit taking it, made some lifestyle changes (less sodium laced foods, more exercise) to bring down the pressure.

I started taking Lisinopril only a week ago. After four days I had to stop. I have high BP and asthma. I was originally given a diuretic, but my BP only came sdown slightly, so my doctor prescribed 5mg of Lisinopril a day. The first day I had blurred vision and a slight cough. By the fourth day I was hacking so badly I nearly dialed 911. It was like one of my bad asthma attacks only 10,000 times worse. The next day I didn't take the Lisionpril. I called my doc and she told me to just stick with the diuretic until my next appointment in two weeks. It's now been two days since I've taken any Lisinopril and I still can't stop coughing. Be careful and ask questions before taking this medication.

At 12.5 mg. per day, have noticed in past year lethargy to the point of exhaustion, falling asleep at my computer keyboard (or at least nodding off) every afternoon, depressive moods, cry off and on, & finally today feeling so sleepy all day I could hardly keep my eyes open at work. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? As this drug also has diuretic which is necessary for fluid retention & relief, does the Atenolol have the same affect? Anyone know? Thanks.

My sun has suffered from three years of age with stomach pain and discomfort uppon eating he is now 12 years old. We have seen many doctors all of whom are very vague. I live with him and see him every day. He eats very little, (i think it still hurts) he says he's not in pain anymore. At nine he was still thr...
