I am 58 with mild hypertension. Started Lisinopril 10mgs and started to cough and feel like I was getting a cold within 48hours. 4 days later I was in the MD office with what I thought was an Asthma exacerbation. We treated it with Solumedrol dose pack and xeponex nebulizer treatments. Two days later I am in the ER unable to stop coughing. My MD was on call and realized that this was due to the Lisinopril!! This dry hacking cough also sometimes produces some phlegm but I am exhausted. This is miserable. It appears from what I have been reading that Lisinopril has the worst record of the ACE Inhibitors for this cough side effect. I am an RN and had no idea that this could be so bad. No more ACE inhibitors for me...they go on my "allergy" list. There are other allternatives and I think the Calcium Channel Blockers are a better alternative.
Maybe it is time for the FDA to re look at Lisinopril????

I want to make a correction on my previous posting about the FDA website. I meant to say that I read everyone's concerns on this website about Lisinopirl and I wrote about "my" concerns about this pill to the FDA, not about "everyone else's" concerns. I thought that was a little confusing. Just wanted to clarify that. Sorry. That was a typo.

My husband went on Lisinopril in Feb 07, his bp went down and was regulated his headaches almost left but then he had sinus surgery in mar or apr. He has now developed muscle twitching and now the "doctors" say he has Motor Neuron Disease.... I refuse to believe after reading everyone's side affects that this 41 year old with no family history of this other than 1/2 siblings with high bp that he has this disease. He has experienced neck stiffness like it is broken (had MRI) no broken bones or slipped disc, he has had the chills, hw has vision blurred issues, heaviness in his legs, left side of his body more prominent than the right, he has crazy dreams and thoughts, he feels like he is dying, he doesn't however have any coughs, he has anxiety which they put him on anti depressant. After reading others comment I researched this med, it was developed by venom in a poisonous Brazilian snake. My husband as a child would get bitten by wasps, fire ants etc.. they would rush him to ER for meds and he used to take shots if stung, swells up like a balloon. So in my theory this med has the snake bite affects and I believe this has caused him to have this neuron disease but I can't prove it. His muscles twitch all the time. I believe this drug has been slowly poisoning him to a eventually paralysis to death. I have begged the doctor to take him off. He has but now he is on Atenolol, which is not much better but has no snake venom or ACE inhibitors. Please people email me. I am desperate we need to band together.
Thanks you Joann

I just took one 20mg. Lisinopril pill on Sunday at 7am and it lowed my BP from 130/85 to 105/58 which I think was kind of drastic. I took another half of of pill on Monday morning at about the same time and that was it for me. Thank heavens I never was on them for long but I am having some problems like my face gets hot and red and also had a tickleling sensation in my fingers on my left side and also after walking for 20 feet or more it feels like my heart was beating outside my chest. I have stopped taking this medication immediatly and am still having these feeling soem 3 days after the last dose. I am feeling a little bit better every day but still am getting fatigued during the day evern though I am going to bed early and getting at least 8 hours sleep. Its Wednesday April 4th and still have the hot flashes but the tingleing haas gone away in my arm and fingers on my left side. I will keep everyone posted. This medicine should have never made it through the FDA.

Mom is 80 and was always a go getter. Now her life has been in shambles with taking the Lisinopril. This drug is made from Brazilian poisonous snake venom. Hard to believe that this is being out to treat folks. Anyway, Mom went down after three months on this stuff. Her mind was always good and her memory sharp until her Physician put her on this stuff. Now, her hands go numb, mainly at night. Her breathing is hard and extreme fatigue. We almost lost her last week from a spike in her blood pressure, she was still on the Lisinopril by the way. 911 was called and they worked to get her blood pressure down. She was hauled to the hospital twice. The doctor could not find a thing. Ha ha. They never once thought to take her off the Lisinopril, even though it showed no effectiveness against the blood pressure spikes. She is scared to get off this mess. They now have upped the dose double and put her on an additional blood pressure patch, dizzy pills and an anti anxiety drug. All this due to this venom that she is ingesting. Has anyone had stroke like symptoms with this medicine? Also, her hands go numb and she cannot sleep. She has had hallucinations of people sitting and talking during the night. What a terrible thing for the FDA to approve!

I've had Fibromyalgia for a long time. The #1 thing, is to have a positive attitude. Get info. about this disease. Get moving. Start out slowly. Do what you are able to do, nothing more and nothing less. I know its hard to keep moving. But if u dont, ur stuck with no life. I've been down this road too. Get some physical therapy. I have found, for me, that pool therapy is the best. I dont have as much gravity to deal with in a swimming pool. The water seems to hold u up. Get involved in som...

by rose81, 2 replies, updated about 19 hours ago.I was given the fantastic news that my body doesn't like itself anymore. I don't know when it had a falling out, but all I can say is the course of action to remedy this disease is CRAZY. Taking meds that have more side effects and the restrictions on my daily life, because of the meds, no driving, no salt, no sugar, and little fat in my diet, very little sun. Bathing in skin moisturizer, moodiness, mental confusion, can't work, but expected to continue cooking for family, and cleaning. Which I guess ...

He has slured speech, incoherent, unsteady on his feet & drops off to sleep in the blink of an eye. Could it be something other that drink related? or is he just pretending to himself he's ok?

I started taking Lisinpril about three weeks ago. Doctor prescribed 40 mg twice per day. After about a week, I developed a severe case of diarrhea but no other illness. Other than that, I felt good. It almost cleared up in about a week. But soon, it got worse. I was having to go to the bathroom about every 30 minutes. Very, very loose stool and gas. After aboout 2 1/2 weeks, I had to get off the drug after finding this web site and all the side effects. I soon developed severe abdominal cramps n adition to the diarrhea and general flu like symptons. Its been three days after getting off the drug, I'm to sick to go to work today and I have a doctors appt. tomorow morning. I'm a 55 yr.old male with good health except for some elevated high BP. I have not doubt my side effects are caused by the lisinopril. To many of us, this is bad stuff. Its been years since I have been this sick. I plan to let FDA know of my side effects and I would encourage you to do the same. Bad Stuff. glen
