I have been taking Lisinopril for 2 years and my side effects have been lower BP and improved athletic ability. When I started taking it, my 5K (3.1 miles) race time was 26 minutes. I immediately incurred a significant improvement, reducing this time to 24 minutes and less after 3 months of meds. I have also run 4 full (26.2 mile) marathons during the past 2 years, all of which were more comfortable than previous ones, when I had high BP before Lisinopril. (Marathon times were 4 hours). I am 60 years old, 5'11'', 180lbs. BP is 120/65 (had been 150/85). Resting pulse is 52. Lisinopril is the only medication I take (or have ever taken). I eat a healthy diet, get plenty of exercise (run 6 days/wk, about 30-40 miles), walk 1 mile at 10 am (coffee break) and another mile at 3pm every day, as well as the running. I was told that Lisinopril was the BP med for people who are athletic, or at least do some moderate, regular exercising. Perhaps future people posting could include their weight, height and exercise regimens. I would be interested to hear if other athletic people have any negative side effects. Mine have been only positive.

I am a 63 year old female whose Dr. insisted I begin taking the drug after several OV's during which a 149/85 BP reading was noted. I declined the drug several times as the elevated BP readings were unusual as I am thin, exercise regularly and have a very healthy diet routine. I have experienced almost every one of the adverse side effects posted on this bulletin board including gagging cough, fatigue, hives and swelling of the tongue, lips, throat and hives. I am experiencing urticaria and angioedema. Beware of this drug!
I was on the drug from August, 2004 until my last pill Feb. 9, 2005. My symptoms have caused a major disruption in my life including: working(I have missed only 2 1/2 days from work but I am uncomfortable part of each day at work) exercising, eating, bathing, sleeping and simply being comfortable with my body. The cough no longer awakens me at night, just the hives. I hope the hives and swelling will end soon. Even with the above symptoms my Dr. did not want me to stop taking the drug. He gave me two new RX's, Zyrtec for the hives and Zantac- just in case acid reflux was causing the irritation in my throat. My thanks to everyone for their input. I think you may have saved my future good health. This drug should be off the market.

My sun has suffered from three years of age with stomach pain and discomfort uppon eating he is now 12 years old. We have seen many doctors all of whom are very vague. His blood work consistantly comes back with low amylase and lipase. Yet they dont see any need for further investigation. I have been told he has a sensitive stomach. As a mother I see more. I live with him and see him every day. He eats very little, (i think it still hurts) he says he's not in pain anymore. At nine he was still thr...
