I was on a Beta Blocker and was having side effects that were effecting my sex drive. My blood pressure has been going done. I have also lost 30 pounds and am doing some what regular exerise. Since my BP was getting better readings my doctor switched me to Lisinopril 10 mg. I have not had any bad side effects on this. Maybe I am lucky and only need the 10 mg and that dose doesn't produce some of the side effects I have read on here. Don't assume you will have the same effects as someone else. You don't know what other drugs they are taking or what their life style is. Do monitor your BP, weight, sleep, and any side effects you feel and discuss these with your doctor.

I have been taking lisinopril for about four months and my doctor increased my meds to 20mg from 10mg. Everything was fine except the tiredness so I take it at night before bed or I could not stay awake during the day. Then I wole up with numb feet one morning and just thought it was nothing as i get swelling when the weather gets warm. well the numbness is still there two weeks later. It is very uncomfortable and is moving up my legs and my arms and legs feel very tired and weak. Last night I counted the pills remaining from the last prescription refill and sure enough the amount left coinsides with the last refill, which by the way is a different manufacturer because the pills are a different color, shape and size. I went to the doctor this week and am waiting for the blood test results. I should know today. I am active and walk five days a week and work out at the Y three times a week. Has anyone else had funny feet problems?

I had stomach pain too. It took a few weeks to develop. It occurred right where the pill sat after I took it in the morning, that is, the bottom of my stomach. The pain got steadily worse and worse. It felt like my stomach was turning from soft and supple to leathery. I had trouble sitting still or in one place for any duration because of this pain. After quitting the medication, it took 2 days before my stomach started to feel noticably better. Then about a week off the med I was positive it had been the lisinopril causing the stomach irritation. Problem has been gone and never came back. Thankfully, for me this symptom was not one of those semi-permanent or super long lasting ones that this med is notorious for.

Wow! I am so fortunate to have run across this site! I am 51 and have very hbp so was put on Lisinopril in March '05. I had no idea that the terrible cough that I have experienced since then was related to this medication, until I read this.. The only reason that I found this was was due to me getting a list of my medications to take to the 'ENT specialist' due to my very long lasting cough and no sleep issues. I started to really notice this cough in June and I described it to my husband as a feeling of something sharp sticking me in the right side of my throat and then turning in to a spasm feeling that would make me cough like a smoker and still bring tears to my eyes*wiping my eyes as I type this* and still coughing. I have done this for so long now and I do have allergies but I have just gone through 3 ys of immunatherapy so I figured that was part of that issue. I have had a terrible 7 months and have seen 3 doctors of which none have said anything about this being a side effect! I am very angry for my 'lost' summer and no sleep! I have been put on a z-pak, kenlog shot, two different cough syrups with phenegren and nothing has helped. duh I also had two ugly bladder infections for no reason. and I had dirareah for 5 weeks. I work out and and really are pretty healthy otherwise but I have had a horrible year. When I read this site prior to going to the ENT dr. I shouted for joy to know that Lisinopril was the problem and I found it thanks to all of you. I took my info to my dr on tues and expressed my anger. All he said was 'let's try you on another one!" I have been on Diovan for 4 days and have had a horrible headache. Called the doc today. Now what? I am exausted!

I’m a 47 Year old male Diabetic. I was prescribed Lisinopril about a month ago by my doctor, as a protection against kidney damage. I have a some experience with drugs, as I have a degree in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry. I must stress that I knew nothing about the side effects of this drug before taking it,( I didn’t even read the instructions – that will teach me!) so for those who suggest that the problems are ‘imagined’ from reading the literature, in my case its just not true. I was given a 10mg daily dose, within the first day I started coughing, and suffering flu-like symptoms. As I had been given a flu-shot at the same time I just put this down to the injection. For the next few days I was feeling nauseous , achy and the cough was getting worse. I was finding it difficult to sleep, and found myself falling asleep all the time. After 4 or five days I started to have breathing problems, I was short of breath all the time, I found it difficult to climb stairs, and was waking in the night gasping for breath. I was also starting to find it difficult to concentrate. After about two weeks I returned to my GP, and advised him of the symptoms. He checked my chest, but could find no problem. He thought it was probably due to the flu jab, and would clear up in a few days. However I was starting to feel much worse. I was becoming distressed and irrational, my body was constantly aching, the cough was getting worse, I had no energy, and was becoming seriously depressed. I was suffering from blurred vision and stomach cramps, and eventually was escorted from work by my boss, as I was on the verge of a breakdown. All this time I was blaming it on the flu-shot, as Lisinopril is so commonly prescribed I couldn’t imagine that this was the cause. By chance a friend mentioned that he had had problems when he started taking it, So then I checked out the leaflet and the internet. There it was, all my symptoms – I was not going mad! I returned to My GP last week, A locum was standing in, who recognised the symptoms and told me to stop taking it. She commented ‘Your not the first I’ve seen with these problems’. I’ve been off for 3 days now and I feel a million times better.
