Do any of you take Lisinopril by itself without a diuretic like HCTZ (hydrocortothiazide)? I got dehydrated 2 days ago & doctor has cut my HCTZ in half-- I felt light-headed, dizzy, pounding heartbeat like I was having a panic attack. I've been on this lisinopril/hctz combo for 3 months. I don't have any of the adverse allergic reactions (rash, itchiness, swelling) at all; nor do I have the cough thing at all. But weakness, chest-pounding heart, dizziness, fatigue all coming now daily. I wonder if our problem is the HCTZ, so is anybody on lisinopril WITHOUT HCTZ?

I am still experiencing hot flushes even though I am post menopausal. I reckon it could be down to the Lisinopril pills. My dose has been doubled to 20mg from 10mg. Could this be the case? Has anyone else had these symptoms?

If you are taking this medicine, STOP! I took this medicine for about three months. I started to feel like I had a congestion. I cough lightly at first then into a hard cough which progressed into a hacking. My wife thought I was critically ill. I was spitting up clear congestion at work into my garbage can. This stuff is bad, I found this site and stopped taking the medicine. It took 3 week for the cough to subside. It’s been about 4 months, and I would say I am only about 98 percent back to where I started . About every 3 weeks I out of the blue start to slightly hack. I know one thing this is not a good medicine. When I started my BP was 138/109. My doctor told me to try this. Because of this medicine I could not do my job and my doctor never told me it was the medicine. When I told him he told me he didn’t think it was the medicine and prescribe some cold medicine

I was on lisinipril for 10 months. I have never felt so terrible in my whole life!!!! I am 34 years old and this was my first BP med. I had dizziness, bloating, 20 lb. weight gain, tiredness, pain in my arms, back and neck. I could barely eat yet I gained weight???? I had nausea and even vomited at times. I had anxiety, depression and my hands would shake. The symptoms would come and go so I figured this is how I have to live my life. So I tried to deal with it. I had to quit 2 jobs because of the dizziness and finally thank god found this website. After reading everyone else symptoms and knew I wasn't alone--- I decided to go to the Doctor's and get on a new med. I am now on norvac and I do not have a single side effect! All the symptoms of that poison are gone and I have never felt better!!!!!!! Get off lisinipril- It is not in your head-THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE REAL!

I am a 60 year old female and have been on Lisinopril (40 mg.) for at least10 years. Before that I was prescribed Zestril, but a generic was often substituted (Lisinopril). So it's hard to say just how long I've taken the Lisinopril. I'm amazed to read the side effects listed here. I've experienced almost all of them at one time or another. It's scary. I've tried to quit the Lisinpril a couple of times, sometimes just because I ran out of the prescription. But now I am substituting a natural supplement for the Lisinopril. I'm trying Holistrol (HiQi). I've been on it for about a week. I checked my bp when I started the natural and will check it again after a week. It was high when I first checked, but I had been off the Lisinopril for a few days by then. I'll continue to monitor and take the natural supplement and then will report back.

These side effects are very similar to those experienced by people diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrom ( both of which I've been told I "might have"). My diagnoses came from several doctors in my hometown and even from the Mayo Clinic. I'm wondering how many people with these diagnoses are taking Lisinopril?

My side effects are starting to leave my body, but after so many years, there are many layers of toxins to release. But I am confident that I am doing just that ~ releasing toxins!

Thank you for listening and especially for sharing your side effects. This is bad stuff in my opinion and I'm glad to have started the process of clearing this poison out of my body.

I was put on Lisinopril 10 mg after my blood pressure was deemed to high. The first thing I noticed was the shortness of breath, like I had ran a mile instead of only walking a few steps. Nest was the dry cough that kept me up all night. Also sick to my stomach the whole week I was on it. My doctor took me off the drug three days ago, I still feel like crap. How long will this "poison" stay in my system? I have never felt so bad in my life and I leave tomorrow for vacation!! I do not even have the energy to pack.

Doctor prescribed 10 mg. Lisinopril four months ago for borderline HBP. Since then I have suffered from an itchy rash, chest and shoulder pain , extreme fatigue , low concentration and memory loss , a dry cough so annoying that I live on cough drops and a strange feeling in my throat like a lump is always there , and most recently I have developed pain and swelling in the lymph nodes under my armpits. I also have dizzy spells so bad that I have almost fainted a couple of times. Once it was so bad that I could not even get out of bed. I am convinced that it is the Lisinopril because I did not have these problems before I started taking it. I am going to stop taking this poison and see a Naturopathic Practitioner. I have recently read that fish peptides also called bonito peptides have been used successfully in treating HBP and is a safe and natural alternative to those Pharma drugs that cause so much misery. I will keep you posted.

Lisinopril is poison, literally!!!! I have had high blood pressure in the past and recently it became a bit too high. My doctor placed me on Lisinopril. I am 41 years old and have NEVER had any problems with my heart rate. After just 5 days of taking this poison I had to be rushed to the hospital with a heart rate of 178 bpm!!!! 2 days later I have intense kidney pain. I am glad I found this site to answer my questions. My cardiologist's nurse's response when I asked her if the Lisinopril caused my kidney pain "Oh no, it couldn't be the medicine". The ER doctor's response when I asked him if Lisionpril could have caused the rapid heart rate "Oh no, it couldn't be the medicine". What are these people on????????? It's like the work for the medicine companies! I can't wait to show the nurse all of the stuff I have printed out about Lisinopril.....No one should ever take this poison, ever!!!!!!!! Stop before you take it and don't take it. It has even killed people before from kidney failures. Read up about it first, I wish I had..........now I am stuck with it in my system and don't know how long before it comes out completely.

My husband has been taking Lisinopril for about 5 years now. He was taking 1 tablet a day. He was feeling dizziness, and lightheadedness, so he went to his Cardiac Doctor. The Doctor checked his Blood Pressure and said it was high. Than the Doctor prescribed 2 tablets instead of 1. When he takes 2 tablets it makes the dizziness worse, so he went back to taking 1 tablet, and feels somewhat better, but it's not the best. Does anyone know of a
medication that he can take for the high blood pressure that won't cause dizziness? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I was on Lisinopril for a while until the dry hacking cough drove me crazy. It got so bad I had trouble driving. I would start coughing severely and could not stop. Had trouble with bladder control due to coughing. Went to my Urologyst, he mentioned coughing and Lisinopril. I looked it up online and immediately stopped taking it. Cough stopped in about 2 weeks. Husband has been on it for about 6 yrs and 3 wks ago started having SEVERE muscle cramping on back. Drs. give him muscle relaxers and pain killers. One of his toes is twitching (mine used to do that too) and seems to be confused and forgetful. I just told him he's not taking it any more. Lisinopril is pure poison!!!!!!!!!

I originally posted my side effects on January 8, 2007. I had been taking Lisinopril for about 1 year prior. The dry hacking cough was driving me mad, so my cardiologist switched me to ATATCAND on February 9. On February 28 I posted that I had my first full day without a cough. Well, it is now March 24 and I have been cough-free for 3 weeks. Most of the other side effects have subsided also.
I know that only a small percentage of people taking this drug report this side effect. I normally do not react to any medications, but this stuff is poison, literally. I wonder if only a small number of people have side effects, or if more people have them, but do not report them, or are treated with other meds for their problems.
If you have a dry hacking cough and think it may be related to Lisinopril, don't wait. See your doctor and tell him that you are allergic to ACE inhibitors. It is well know by my primary care doctor as well as my cardiologist that this allergy exists.

I have been on Lisinopril for 10 months. In July 07 I started having itchy skin. It wasn't bad, just annoying. In Sept the itching was worst and I developed a rash. In November one evening I got a serve pain in my right hand and it started swelling within a matter of minutes. The next morning I called my doctor and she had me come in. She looked at my still swollen hand and seemed mystified and referred me to a Rheumatologist who diagnosed me with psoriasis, remember the rash, that is what he was calling psoriasis. I also developed a dry hacking cough. In Jan. 08 I developed full fled hives all over. Went back to the doctor. She started giving me BS. I told her I had done some research on Lisinopril and every symptom I was having was connected to Lisinopril. She took me off the stuff to see it the symptoms disappear. I have been off of it for 5 days now and I am still getting hives and my right foot became very swollen last night. Does anyone know how long it takes to get this stuff out of your system? It's poison.

I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago for some breathing problems, I was taking meds for asthma and from a previous doctor visit. The doctor prescribed two new prescriptions for asthma and told me to continue taking the other meds as well and he also prescribed lisinopril because he said I had high blood pressure. I started taking them on October 10 and the next day I began feeling severe headaches and nausea. The minute I eat something I have to go the bathroom, my body always feels sore, my mouth is dry but I am afraid to drink water because when I feel horrible anytime I put something in my body. I feel very tired, cold sweat, I am having a hard time sleeping.. .After reading everything I agree that this is a poison and I am no longer going to take this drug. I am on the phone with the doctor right now...

You don't know how good some of your posts make me feel. I was placed on Lisinopril after having a stent put in. I am 45 year old male who smoked a lot before and cholesterol at 280. I was about 35 pounds overweight not that bad except for the other 2 factors. My heart races now without any reason, dry cough at times, and chess pain also with no reason. Guess what sports fans??? I have never had high blood pressure. Why are these MD's prescribing this poison??! They will swear up and down, "by taking this med it will reduce your chances of having a heart attack or stroke." This a bunch a hogwash. It is causing problems!

I FEEL LIKE I'M DYEING. I am not on any other meds. but Lasix. I contacted My Dr. and he said stop immediatly and I contacted the Pharmacy also. I am a fit lady of 67 (now). After taking a mini dose (2.5mg) of Lisinopril daily for 18 months I noticed various odd symptoms, putting them down to what I had eaten, lifestyle etc.
One of these was indigestion which caused a chokey lump sensation in my throat. For this I had an endoscopy which showed a clear result. Had also had an ECG test for palpitations..again no problem. The cough wasn't too bad, but I was always tired and did notice I had lack lustre and thinning hair.
After I came off them (gradually) I started to feel better and best of all am losing the wadge of fat from my stomach and hips.Constipation seems to be a thing of the past too.
Looking at all the comments on this site, can't we get together a petition to
at least get this drug(poison) investigated ?

Glad to find your site. I have been on Lisiopril for 2 years (ever since my Insurance stopped paying for my Aceon and I had to have a substitute drug for blood pressure control). I have had increasing cough and horseness for the past 12 months to the point that I now have 24 hour symptoms! I also have been having leg cramps at night the past few months.
I will stop Lisinopril TODAY. Plan to monitor my blood pressure and see what happens. Does anyone see any problem with doing this?????

I have switched from Lisinopril to Diovan and my flash headaches and malaise feelings have subsided while maintaining great BP. Would love to sue the makers of this poison since I had to spend $1900 on a MRI. Maybe a class action suit is needed to remove this crap from the market.

I was on Lisinopril for 4 months. I had some coughing, the gag reflex, and a general feeling of malaise. My depression was bad at times and I imagined myself committing suicide more than once. I also began to grind my teeth at night. I have been off of the poison for 8 days and all side effects have subsided except for the teeth grinding. My teeth and jaws ache all the time. I had never experienced that problem before. I too went to the ER in the middle of the night about 2 months ago because I was sure I was having a heart attack or stroke. I finally made an appointment with a therapist 3 weeks ago to deal with the depression. She told me about Lisinopril side effects and I quit taking it. I owe her my life. I feel re-born. I am so happy to be alive!!!!

I too was prescribed this horrible medication. I was to the point where I thought I had lung cancer or throat cancer. The coughing was horrible. I am a Supervisor and every time I talked to one of my workers I would break out in this horrible cough. I also had the night sweats, horrible dreams and weakness. Thank God for this website. I stopped taking this poison two weeks ago and the coughing is starting to subside, along with the weakness and fatigue. I will never take this medication again. Thanks for the website and the wonderful postings. I think if I had continued on this drug it would have killed me. Sherry in FL

Ok so I have been taking lisinopril since July 20th, against the advice of my husband who is an RN. He said the side effects were hell and had long term effects. I however was convinced that my physician new better. I have had the weird dreams, night sweats, nausea, horible abdominal cramps. This mornig I woke up with a swollen face, severely swollen tounge to the point I could not swollow and was drooling. My lymph nodes and neck swollen as well. Needless to say we went right to the hospital before I stopped breathing. When I told the doctor what I was taking he said to immediately stop it, as it was a rare side effect of the lisinopril. GREAT Something to cure me almost killed me. After a cortisone shot and a week of prednisone I should be back to normal. Im going to listen to my husband now, eat less salt and excercise more. I started taking some form of lisinopril (5-10 mg) ten years ago when I needed to lose 20-30 pounds, and had a mild BP problem. Now I need to lose 50-80 pounds, even though I no longer eat boxes of cookies, candy bars, packaged foods, salty snacks, crackers. No soft drinks (no diet either). Gave up butter, eggs, cheese last October. I also stopped baking cookies and cakes. I haven't lost 20 pounds yet. I too think my doctor is a quack and in cahoots with the drug pushers. They try to make you think every pain and discomfort is your weight and from what I'm reading, it's that %#@& snake poison. I forgot to mention the itchy eyes and the cough. I thought I was allergic to my house. I wake up reaching for the Visine. My doctor subscribed a tiny bottle of eye drops that cost $100. Yes, that's what I said. Once, about 5 or 6 years ago, I woke up and my head was the size of a prize winning pumpkin. Never did figure out what caused it, until now. Thanks for letting me vent. :-)

Started Lisinopril a week ago (20mg) and so far, so good. Had been on HCTZ for several years but it really didn't work very well. My Doc, who is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and also practices Integrative and Holistic medicine, said that my blood test indicated that Diuretic BP meds are not what I need, rather, I need something to ease the tension in my circulatory system. Hence the Lisinopril. Only side effect so far is slight tingling in right hand and foot in the evenings. Not bothersom, just noticible. BP has gone from 195/105 to 128/18 so it's really working. I feel bad for those having bad side effects. It's working for me.

In my opinion, Lisinopril is a silent and deadly killer. I was on the original drug Zestoretic for a long time without any problems. Within the first 24 hours of tasking Lisinopril I became very ill. I was on a trip and did not immediately realize it was caused because they switched me to the generic version called lisinopril. I have not had any other side effects from any other generic, nor do I have a problem with generics...only generics that posion the user!!!

I have had blurred vision, confusion, eye problems, heart palpitations, weight gain, sweating, rashes, and blood pressure that either falls to dramatic lows or rises to dramatic highs. I have lost feeling in my right foot and now am starting to experience numbness in my hands and other extremities. I have complained to doctors, pharmacists and to my medical provider. I am now in the process of fighting the state I live in to carry and cover the real product, Zestoretic, for me in my insurance. I have made at least twenty or more attempts to get this straightened out but all of my warnings are falling on deaf ears. Five of my other friends were put on Lisinopril in the last year. Most thought I was just being too radical about the effects of the drug. They used it and got by for about three to six months.

Guess what? They are all having serious side effects now too. Three have ended up in the hospital. One with a heart attack. One with a mild stroke. And a couple with kidney problems. My liver began to fail me and now my doctor wants to send me to a neurologist.... I know what the problem is. Believe me. I will switch back to Zestoretic this Monday. but here's the killer punchline America. Prinzide no longer makes their safe version. It is discontinued and from what I understand, Zestoretic has stopped producing all but one strength...their 20/25. My guess is with Walmart selling the generic for $4 bucks for a month's supply...it won't be long until Astra Zeneca pulls the 20/25's off the market... Got the picture!!!!!!!! Posion or nothing. P/S I will wriotge back aftger I have been on the Zestoretic for a week.

I stopped taking Lisinopril after a year of waiting for the side effects to lessen.
Started out with 20mg. and my bp was 90/58. I felt like I was going to pass out, had chest pains, no energy, shortness of breath, and had the feeling that my eyes had just been dialated. The eye thing happened twice while I was driving.
As per MD's orders I cut the pills in half to 10mg. Same symptoms. So, I qauartered that down to 2.5. I still felt somewhat less but still terrible.
Finally I stopped a month ago and am felling much, much better. Still not 100 percent.
Taking hydrocholithaizide and atenolol(not sure about those spellings) and my bp is 130/80. I'm ok with that even if the medical profession isn't.
As far as I'm concerned this poison should be taken off the market. It made my life miserable for year.

All you are Hypochondriacs. If one person says this medicine is causing this, then of course; you all have the same problem "some how." Isn't this weird? It is called the "placebo effect." Normally all the people involved in the testing are given "Lisinopril" (or some other drug), then the placebo group is given a vitamin supplement, the group receving the vitamin supplement is being told they are receving "Lisinopril." Mysteriously?, the "placebo group" is all feeling better and their symptoms are gone. This is due to the fact that all these people in the "placebo group" have interacted with eachother and have told eachother "I feel better" than of course everybody feels better. So WEIRD!! So, my point is this forum is all your peoples "placebo group." If you guys never heard of these side effects from this forum you would have never experinced them. Hypochondriacs all of you are. This is a very good medicine that is helping all of you make up for your peoples lack of self-disipline to control your diet or exercise enough to lower your blood pressure naturally. So be thankful. Lets not complain about false side effects because John has them. I wonder what the side-effects of that cheese burger are that caused high blood pressure. It is funny, I don't see a forum for that. So deal with your so called "side-effects" that are associsted with "Lisinopril" or go on a diet people. Get over it!!

I have been taking Lisinopril since Jan 07. Since I started taking the medication I have noticed blurred vision along with floaters. My eyes feel as if they have sand paper in them constantly. My stomach is bloated and hurts. My joints and muscles ache constantly. I have had several episodes of confusion. TIRED!, I am tired every day, having to take daily naps. I sleep 8-10 hours at night and wake up exausted! I feel unmotivated because I am tired most of the time. I also have the constant tickle in my throat along with a cough. I woke up the other night coughing so much I left the room so not to disturb my husband.

I am glad I found this site. I might have continued to attribute these side effects to getting older, not quite over the cold I had 3 weeks ago., eyes are bothering me because I work on the computer all day. I never had these symptoms until I began to use the Lisinopril.

I've been taking Avapro for HBP for years with few side effects. But my MD suggested I try LiSINopril so I could save money, since Avapro is fairly expensive. After taking Lisinopril for a week, I thought I was having a very bad episode of a condition I have called Irritable Bowel. I thought that maybe my underwear were too binding, so I went to Wal-Mart and got a larger size underwear. When I got home, even the XL underwear were binding! Then I realized that my whole lower abdomen was extremely swollen, as well as the pain in my lower abdomen. That's when I went online and saw that abdominal pain and swelling is a side effect. This stuff is poison, I agree! I'm stopping it tonight!

Just a follow-up from post #36464 that I submitted on January 17. My husband has been off of Lisinopril for almost 3 weeks and his eye problems have almost completely cleared up. This is the longest his vision has went without another floater occurance or bleeding in his eye. His memory is also improving and he has not had anymore moments of confusion. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this cures his medical problems. I really believe that Lisinopril is a poison and needs to be taken off the market.

I've posted here before, and I would like to know if anyone here has ever experienced withdrawal or strange uncomfortable symptoms after stopping the Lisinopril ?
My brother has been taking it for a year and now he takes less and less but he gets wierd withdrawal symptoms.
I am wondering how long it takes for this poison to completely leave the system to feel good again ???
Please feel free to e-mail at: ******
With heartfelt thanks.

When my BP reached 200/125 the doctor gave me Lisinopril.
Within a week I went down hill with anxiety attacks, weak legs, exhausion and pain behind my eyes.
THANKS GOD FOR THIS WEBSIDE. In desperation as a last attempt ( i did not know why I felt this way) a friend recommended to check the internet. I have now gone to herbal remedies, eat garlic, calcium/magnesium and eat potassium rich foods. No or little sodium in my food and working on loosing weight. All this info is available in books and internet, but doctors are not willing to give this advice and just poison us with drugs. I guess they are on commision...?

WOW, Im glad i stumbled on this site, I have been taking lisinopril for 3 months now, I have been having anxiety attacks with stiffness in my neck and shoulders..I am an avid golfer , and have been unable to complete a round the last 3 games because of heat sensetivity, anxiety and rapid heart beat while trying to play.

I will be stopping this poison drug today..I told my DR all this he gives me xanax..I have also been very tired with mucle soreness...Does anyone know a good BP med with fewer side effects?

I started taking Lisinopril 20mg in early April. The week after I started, I began craving salty, vinegary foods (banana peppers in vinegar, pickles.) I also couldn't get enough V8/tomato juice. These are all foods I liked before, but I felt the need to consume them every day in huge quantities. I even drank the pickle juice sometimes! It took me a while to figure out the connection between starting the med and these cravings. I told my doc about it, but he didn't seem to think there was a connection. Well, I stopped Lisinopril a week ago and I haven't had any more cravings since then.

Also, I suffer from depression and I am almost positive that this medication exacerbated that condition. Certainly the fatigue that comes with taking Lisinopril didn't help things anyway. I also found the lightheadedness annoying, though it was livable.

Before Lisinopril, I was on Norvasc for five years and didn't experience any notable side effects. My blood pressure was always normal on Norvasc, whereas the Lisinopril lowered it to low normal (enough that I felt lightheaded.) Interestingly enough, my BP has been normal since I stopped Lisinopril last week. Go figure.

This medication and my body DID NOT get along. I won't be taking it again and I can't wait until the poison is completely out of my body!

Took 20MG for about three months. Shortness of breath, very weak and contantly winded, blood pressure goes down but heart rate has gone from normally about 70 to 80 to up to 140 or 150. Can hear heart pounding at night while trying to sleep. My doctor told me that this medicine did not have side effects other than the cough. No cough, heart might explode soon, tho. No more of this poison.

I took Lisinipril for 6 weeks (6 weeks too long!). After 2 weeks on the med, I developed a tickle in my throat and gradually starting experiencing a harsh cough. I thought it was because I had a cold. Was I wrong!. After 2 weeks of coughing and sleepless nights, I called my doctor and he said it was from the BP med. Took me off of it 5 days ago. I still have the tickle and hacking cough. I'm told that the cough will last 1 week to a month! It's the worst thing to go through, especially when I get the tickle and it casues me to go into a horrible coughing jag and dry heaves. I agree with the person who posted and said it's poison! Can anyone tell me how long it took them for the tickle and cough to go away after stopping Lisinopirl?

I've had Fibromyalgia for a long time. The #1 thing, is to have a positive attitude. Get info. about this disease. Get moving. Start out slowly. I was given the fantastic news that my body doesn't like itself anymore. I don't know when it had a falling out, but all I can say is the course of action to remedy this disease is CRAZY. Taking meds that have more side effects and the restrictions on my daily life, because of the meds, no driving, no salt, no sugar, and little fat in my diet, very little sun. Bathing in skin moisturizer, moodiness, mental confusion, can't work, but expected to continue cooking for family, and cleaning. Which I guess ...

My partner insists that he's not drunk & he's just very tired. He has slured speech, incoherent, unsteady on his feet & drops off to sleep in the blink of an eye. Could it be something other that drink related? or is he just pretending to himself he's ok?
