I am a 72 yrs old female. Put on Lisinopril-HCTZ 10-12.5mg 2 yrs. ago. Took Cozaar until drug provider (AARP) wouldn't pay for and told my doc to use Lisinopril. For a while I was ok...then the trouble started. Nausea, dizziness, headaches and swelling of legs and feet. All slow to happen. Then shortness of breath, cough and itching. Leg cramps got me up pacing and in agony several time nightly. Had a creepy feeling in the back of my neck, joint aches, tiredness, stomach PAIN, hot tingles in feet and toes late in the day. Slight weight gain, a runny nose and sneezing in the AM.. Hot one minute, cold the next. At some point I realized I had a feeling of ill-health, a def. loss of my usual feeling of well-being. I was edge, nervous and finally got depressed enough to call a psychologist. That's when I found this web site. Therapist told me to tell my doc and maybe get another BP med. instead of L. Ten days ago I stopped taking it and went back on the Cozaar...I will pay for it myself. I just want to feel good again. The mental anguish this drug has produced shouldn't happen to anyone. Also, I shouldn't have to find a web site that tells me I'm taking poison either. Last night I slept straight thru the night w/o awaking. First time in God knows when. Still some nausea but I can tell the effects of Lisinopril and lessening. Take hope all u people who have posted here...I think it will get better for you now that u don't take that snake juice anymore. I think it's good that we all stopped it before we started slithering through the grass of our front lawns. This too shall pass. Thanks for posting here for me so that I could finally feel good again. I owe you a huge debt for my sanity.

I am a 40 year old female and both my husband and I are taking Lisinopril 40 mg. I have mild tingling in my arms at night, however the tingling/ burning sensation is so great in my husband's arms that he can't sleep at night. His rest is continually interrupted by this uncomfortable sensation. I have noticed a host of things like tiredness, an occasional dry cough, feelings of depression, rapid heart beat, and lack of energy in myself. My husband has experienced all of the above and muscle pain and irritability. I thought his irritability was being caused by lack of sleep, but I have learned from this website that it may be yet another side effect of the medication. We both have to get off this. Thanks for all of your helpful comments.

I didn't seem to have any side effects until the doctor upped my dose to 20 mg of lisinopril after 7 weeks at 10 mg.Then the gastro-intestinal effects started with gas, constipation and severe cramping for about 2 hours every night.I finally was told to quit the lisinopril and wait until side effects subside to try another approach.I would be interested in find a more natural way to control my HBP other than a drug derived from a pit viper's venom.

I came across this site purely by entering "swollen red foot and kidney pain" into my search engine, imagine my shock when up came a site listing kidney pain and lisinopril!! I have been taking lisinopril for about 7 months now and as I had no adverse side effects in the first week carried on popping my "little lifesaver" no questions asked. Over the last 3 months I have experienced kidney pain to the extent that I was beginning to think I would pass a kidney stone! dry persistent cough, sleeplessness which means I am up at all hours throughout the night and catnapping (when I can) during the day, nausea ,stomach pain and headache!! The swollen foot I don't think I can attribute to the lisinopril....but who knows? I appreciate that in medicine we use various "poisons" as cures and remedies for illness, but when I read of the side effects that so many people are experiencing and am able to see a definite link to the ones I am experiencing then I start to wonder ....the good thing is that this drug and I take 10mg daily has reduced my B.P to a rather good level.....but I have decided to stop taking it for a few days to see whether my symptoms stop and have made an appointment to discuss this treatment with my G.P as a matter of urgency!! Thanks...Jill xx Oh almost forgot to add the incessant itching as well!!

I have been taking Lisinopril for about a year now. My highest BP reading was 217/174--that was high as some of the nurses in the ER had ever seen! I was one of those that didn't have any HBP symptoms--I was in the ER because I had a crook in my neck that had me incapacitated. I started taking the Lisinopril and my BP is now within normal range (120/70) and hasn't been that low since I was in my teens. I do have the dull headaches, night sweats, stomach pain, trouble sleeping, constipation, and the dry cough but I feel like dealing with those things is worth it since now I don't have to worry about my BP going through the roof and killing me in seconds.

I'm so glad I found this website! I have all the same symptoms, nausea, fatigue so severe I can't get out of bed. Stomach pain severe in the mornings after taking it. I feel stupid now that I have taken this pill for 7 days now with the same side effects and knew if was from brazillian snake venom. Thank you all for your input.

I am a 44 year old female and experienced many of the side effects as shared. I have taken Lisinopril (20MG) for 5 years. I have experienced headache, nausea, stomach pain and now blurred vision, which I thought was due to just getting older, but the onset was so sudden, within the last 3 months. I have also experienced leg cramps and dry scalp. I have family history (Mother) with heart issues (by-pass surgery), but there has to be a better non-drug alternative to control hypertension. I am going to research and share my results as soon as I find a solution. Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences. I thought I was falling apart.

Just started 5MG Lisinopril once a day at bedtime (about a week).
After looking up side effects, I found this site. I don't have hbp, never had. I was given this to help protect my kidneys (type1 diabetic). Side effects are: head ache, dizzy, muscle pain in legs and arms, stomach pain... This morning I was helping my daughter find her craft supplies. All of a sudden I was sitting on the floor with no sensation of getting there. I'm stopping this stuff. Google Apple Cider Vinegar uses.

I experienced a severe itchy rash on the hands, arms and back, while taking Lisinopril. Also had strong stomach pains. Was taken off for awhile, given allergy shot and Prednisone pills for two weeks. Hivey looking red rash disapeared, also itching and stomach pain stopped. Told to restart Lisinopril five days ago. Itching and pains began again. Wondering how quick does Lisinopril take to start working, and how long it remains in the syatem when stopped. Stoped Lisinopril this morning and contacted doctor for further advice. Awaiting for a call back.

I started taking Lisinopril for my bp about 2 1/2 months ago and even though it did lower my bp, I started having strange side-effects. It started out with drowsiness throughout the day, no matter how much sleep I got. And, waking up feeling drowsy even after 8-10 hours of sleep. Then, I started getting strange aches and pains throughout my body, like I was getting over a stomach flu. My asthma also flared up and I started having to use my inhaler for the first time in almost 15 years (usually I just need it after exercise.) The side-effects continued to get worse over the next months with increased fatigue, drowsiness, coughing, anxiety, muscle aches, poor concentration, feeling like my nerves were "shot," headache, weakness, tightness in my lungs, numbness in my hands and feet, and just plain feeling bad.
I made an appointment to see my doctor because I thought there was something seriously wrong with me. It crossed my mind that I might be feeling this way because of the Lisinopril. I stumbled across this website and after reading everyone's testimonials, I decided to stop the Lisinopril. I haven't taken it in 3 1/2 days, and I am already feeling much better. I would rather try a more holistic approach to lowering my bp then taking Lisinopril.
I hope this helps someone else out there who might be going through the same thing.

I have been taking Lisinopril for nearly a year and have experienced nearly all the bad side effects I have read about. I have had severe cough that does not respond to cough medications, copious amounts of clear slimy mucous that chokes me frequently. I even choke frequently when I am trying to speak because of the secretions. I have had severe bronchitis 4 times in 6 months. I am tired all the time and my anxiety is much worse. I now have insomnia which I've never had before. During one of the bronchitis rounds I had to take a very strong anitbiotic because it was trying to turn to pneumonia. The antibiotic made me very nauseated so I couldn't take my other meds. After two weeks without the Lisinopril, my symptoms cleared up completely. I resumed the lisinopril when I finished the antibiotic and all of my symptoms returned.

I had stomach pain too. It took a few weeks to develop. It occurred right where the pill sat after I took it in the morning, that is, the bottom of my stomach. The pain got steadily worse and worse. It felt like my stomach was turning from soft and supple to leathery. I had trouble sitting still or in one place for any duration because of this pain. After quitting the medication, it took 2 days before my stomach started to feel noticably better. Then about a week off the med I was positive it had been the lisinopril causing the stomach irritation. Problem has been gone and never came back. Thankfully, for me this symptom was not one of those semi-permanent or super long lasting ones that this med is notorious for.

I have been taking 5 mg of lisinopril for several weeks. For about a week I have been having stomach pain. Nothing else has changed in my diet or medications. Does anyone know if that is the cause.

ok i wrote a few post down (25y/o cutting his pillls in half)

had ugly side effects with 10mg.. (heart pounding, retrograde ejaculation)
after 4 days of cutting my pills in half from the 10mg to the 5 my symptoms have gotten better... the cough has gone.. right now i have a raspy breathing that comes and goes.. I do have some weird stomach pain stometimes like if someones pulling on my stomach and it feels like a slight discomfort... I been monitoring my blood pressure and it has been excellent.. spanning from 116/65 to 135/81 highest.. My heart beat was a little fast yesterday but now im pretty good.. i have random chest pains still.. Should i be feeling this if im just getting treated for hypertension.. I mean i didnt have a heart attack and my EKG showed borderline normal. i had a slight arythmia.. They said nothing serious..
Im kinda scared cuz well like my girlfriends dad just died of a heart attack instantly (first attack hes ever had) and he was a healthy guy abs, worked out everything.. he had chest pains all the time and would go to the doc and they would tell him hes fine.. just had high blood pressure.. these kinda stories make me nervous :( anyone have any insight?

I started to take lisonopril six weeks ago after my surgery. When I ask my pharmacist about the side effects he tells me to ask my doctor. When I ask my doctor he tells me to ask my pharmacists. I think that especially doctors do not know about all the side effects because they do not have the time to read them all. The FDA approved so it must be good. How can I convince my doctor that the Lisonopril cause extreme tiredness, lack of energy, stomach pain, heart burn, weak and painful legs, insomnia, and some of the other simptoms that most of the takers on your website have? Since I am taking it in six weeks I lost 26 pounds that I can not afford, being an underweight person, and regardless what I do I can not gain an ounce back. Could somebody have a suggestion.

I began taking Lisiniprila few days ago upon leaving the hospital after an SVT attack and getting angioplasty and a stent for blocked artery. I had been on Altace already and had not attributed any symptoms I was having then to blood pressure medicine. I have fibro-myalgia, anxiety disorder as well as a history of depression so I am a difficult patient to treat at times as far as what disease may be causing what symptoms.
There is NO doubt WHATSOEVER that Lisinipril has made me feel ten times sicker than I have felt in quite a while. I have nausea almost 24-7, stomach pain, burning, feeling of something "turning over" inside my stomach as well as fatigue, light-headedness, pain in my eyes, pain in my kidney area and my neck and throat are swollen. I'm sure I have left something out as far as the symptoms but I can guarantee you that I WILL NOT be continueing this medication! I am very glad this site exists to help those of us recognize similarities from this drug that we otherwise might have spent no telling how long trying to find out what's causing these symptoms! The travesty in this is that we cannot depend on our own doctors to stand up for OUR well-being as opposed to catering to the drug companies or just plain out being uninformed, neglectful malpractitioners!

Have anybody heard about stomach pain and/or stomach ulcers as a result of taking lisinopril? My doctor switched me from atenolol to lisinorpil three months ago. After a week of taking it I started to have pain in the right upper quadrant of my abdomen. I suspected lisinorpil, but my doctor said: "Absolutey impossible!". I stopped lisinorpil when the pain became unbearable, felt better on the second day, however, it didn't subside completely, and my gastroenterologist suspects stomach ulcer. Going to EDG test next week.

Hi gang,

I made an entry on this forum back on the 11th of July and thought I would follow-up with my results.

I've been off Lisinopril for 2 months now. My MD had me on it to control slightly high BP. While on Lisinopril I developed a stomach ache that lasted for about 2 weeks. The ache went away 3 or 4 days after stopping the med. My MD now has me on some sort of dye-er-ret-ic (I don't know how to spell it correctly so I spelled it as it's pronounced). Anyway, life is good. No more stomach pain and my BP is in the normal range. I'm very happy to be off Lisinopril.

I'm a 47 year old male. My MD put me on Lisinopril 3-4 weeks ago. I've always been healthy till this point but my BP is on the high side so... This is the first time in my life I have been on medication that has lasted for more than a few days. Last week I started to get some minor stomach pain. Its been about 7 days now and my MD told me to stop taking the med which I am more than happy to do. Its too early to tell if the pain is connected to the medication, I hope it is because some of the other possibilities are really unpleasant to think about.

I've also been constantly tired and my wife tells me I am more withdrawn.
