I have been taking Loestrin 24 for about 8 months and I did not have a period for almost 5 months. Now I have had two this month. I have experienced anxiety and depression and I am normally a level individual. I do not want to go without Birth control but I feel I can't take this one anymore, I just want a clear mind back.

I posted my situation on this site earlier this summer. I had been suffering from anxiety and depression plus loss of sex drive since being on this pill. I called my doctor and asked to switch to another pill and I feel so much better already. I had no period whatsoever while on LoE24 so I continued to use it inspite of the fact that I suspected the pill of doing these things to me. I just don't think it's normal to take a pill with 24 days of hormones that take away your period. It was obviously unhealthy for me and I'm glad I got rid of it. My mind just feels so much clearer and I feel like my old self again. After being on this pill for 14 months I'm finally free and clear of it and will never recommend it to anyone! If you're having depression or anxiety, don't let your doctor put you on antidepressants without first trying another pill.

I began taking Loestrin 24 Fe in May 2007. Three months later when my son left for college I experienced the most terrible depression. It was really not normal to be that depressed. I have had normal anxiety that everyone experiences from time to time throughout my life but nothing like this. I was put on antidepressants and finally felt normal again. Eventually I got off the antidepressants and was fine. Then last month I began to experience unexplained anxiety and depression. I have told several people that I believe it is the Loestrin but my doctor says it shouldn't affect me this way. It is hard to want to get rid of the Loestrin because I don't have a period at all now and it used to control my life. Has anyone switched to another pill to help with periods that does not have bad side effects?

I am so happy to read all these posts on here. I thought I was completely losing my mind and was the only one feeling this way. I was on Seasonal for awhile and hated it but was soo scared to change for some reason. When I finally decided to tell my doctor that I hated it and wanted to change, he put me on Loestrin. I have been on this for probably a year and a half now. I never get my period which in the beginning, I freaked out about. Every time I go to the doctor, I ask him if this is ok and he says its fine. In the last couple months I have been experiencing a lot of anxiety and depression that are somewhat unexplainable. I am thinking now this must be a side effect of the medicine because I have never been like this in my life. I just celebrated my one year anniversary with my husband and even he has pointed out that I am not myself lately. I am a little nervous to switch though because I have gotten so completely used to not having a period so I don't know what to do! Have a doctors appointment coming up so will probably discuss with him. Other side effects I had from this is just some exaggerated PMS symptoms around the time of my "period" such as moodiness, fatigue and headaches. That stuff is manageable, especially since there is no actual period to deal with. Just nervous about the overall anxiety and depression I feel that I can't explain. Thanks again for posting your stories, it makes me feel like I am not alone!

The ups and downs. I have been on Loestrin 24 for 4 months now and it's been a real experience. To give a quick background so you understand what has brought me to this I will begin with my medical history (at least a brief bit of it)
I am on this particular medication due to severe endometriosis. Six years ago I had the Laparoscopic Surgery and two years ago they did a DNC and Balloon Ablation at the same time. According to my Doc this last treatment had been 100% effective for his patients and he was convinced it would for me as well. One full year after my DNC and Balloon Ablation I was still bleeding very heavily at least 25 days out of each month. For those of you who have or are suffering like this you will join me in saying that anything is worth a shot.
My last visit they did all the typical testing and ultrasounds to make sure everything was as it should be internally. They did another biopsy and everything came back normal. The Doctor then started to push a hysterectomy. I am not completely against that option but I am 32 years old and want to prolong something that definite as long as I possibly can.
So, on to the meds. After my first week on Loestrin I had suffered the following symptoms: bloating, severe mood swings, enlarged breasts, breast pain, anxiety, and the bleeding had not let up at all. I called my Doctor and begged him to get me a different medication and he asked me to give this at least three months to get in my system and that I may see changes if I could hang in there. I stayed on the meds and for the first full 3 months I wanted to toss them in the trash! The feelings of anxiety and depression were consuming me and to top that off I was suffering from insomnia as well.
I did finish the pills and started on month 4 and almost immediately I saw a change. ALL the side effects subsided almost like I had never had any. The only remaining problem I currently have is a very small weight gain. Approx. 5 lbs. But for someone who has struggled with endometriosis since I was 20, been to Dr. after Dr. and gotten the same doom and gloom story of what lies ahead for me and my poor reproductive system.... Well, this has honestly been the best result yet. I can and will live with the weight gain and I will happily take my 2 day period each month. I LOVE this pill. Honestly I would do it all over again to get to the point I am now. I can live a normal, happy, productive life and I have Loestrin 24 to thank for that!
This registry is a place to share positive or negative side effects of using Loestrin 24 Fe. I have been off the pill for about 6 weeks now. My anxiety and depression are gone, but I am still having problems with my heart palpitating and shortness of breath. Can someone who experienced these problems please tell me how long to expect this? I am seriously beyond frustrated at this point and my poor husband (whom I have only been married to for a month) would really like the "old" me back.
