First off, i think its important to remember that all bcp have these side-effects. its not that one pill is better or worse than another, its that everyone's body reacts differently and sometimes you will experience these side effects and sometimes you wont. all these horrible things women are listing about Loestrin, other women have said about other pills.

for example, when i first started taking a bcp, i was on ortho-lo. this one seemed fine at first (outside the three month adjustment time) then one breast started to swell and ache while the other was fine. it was just my body reacting to the combination of hormones in that particular pill. i know other women who have taken ortho-lo for years and have been fine with it. But i wasn't.

eventually i decided to try a new pill and a friend recommended i research Yasmin. i found many sights just like this one with women going on and on about how evil it was. for every good review, i read ten bad. but my doctor decided to try me on it anyway thinking i needed i higher level of hormones and the five months i was on it were horrible. severe weight gain, cramps (i never had them before), spotting, migraines, NO sex drive, etc. i went back to my doctor and she was surprised because both Yasmin and ortho-lo are supposed to be good drugs. bottom line is, they weren't good for me. she decided to switch me again, this time to a lower level of hormones, but with more active pills, trying to find the right balance for me.

now i read everyone saying horrible things about Loestrin but I have to tell you, i've been on it for a few months now and have never felt better. i didn't even have the months of 'adjusting' to a new pill. i think i may have finally found a combo pill that works for me.

all bcp pills have side effects and you can read horror stories everywhere about ALL kinds of pills. it DOESN'T mean the pill is horrible, or awful, or evil or the worst kind ever. it just means, that for whatever reason, its not right for you.

so if you are out there, reading comments like this on all these pills, please don't take all these comments to heart. read them, take heed, but don't dismiss a pill because it gets bad reviews. i've done my research and they ALL have bad reviews. You have to know that all pills have some side effects BUT each woman's body is different and just because some women experienced bad things on this pill, doesn't mean you will. we are all different after all. you can judge how you will react to something based on someone else's experience.

if you're looking to start taking bcp or looking to switch, be sure you know your own body, communicate with your doctor and know that somewhere you may be able to find a bcp that works for you. i'm lucky i found one in Loestrin.

Much Luck.

I'm 26 and I'm on week three of Loestrin24Fe. I have been getting these terrible headaches. I'm very moody and very light headed. My breast are tender and they hurt. Ever since I've been on Loestrin the word tired is on the TOP of my list through my day. I snap for any little thing and emotional. I took the pill Sunday, Monday and on Tuesday I got my period. I was shocked because I thought it was suppose to come on the fourth week. But anyways I don't like this BCP and its been making me feel like crap! Please I know everyone is different but the symptoms are terrible! Yes I'm SWITCHING!!!

I have been on Loestrin24 for about 4 months now, i am ending my pack today. Ive found that i have become very emotional towards my boyfriend and parents, i was on Yaz previous to this and i thought the yaz was not working for me but then i discovered when i went onto loestrin the yaz was fine, i found that with this pill i have extreme break outs on my face that i never had before besides the occasional ones around my period now i feel like they come all the time. My breast were randomly sore in the middle of the month and i was worried that i was pregnant. After reading all of these side effects from everyone else i have decided to go back on the Yaz.

ok I posted a few months ago about my experience with this pill. Well Im now back to say it is starting not to work. My period started about 8 days ago and has not stopped but get this I am not taking the brown pills so I should not be getting a period @ all. Go figure. Also my breast which were large before I started this pill is HUGER now I take pictures from the neck up cuz I l look like Im swollen. I am now taking two pills a day to stop the bleeding so we will see but when this pack is gone im off these for good. I have had horrible cramps as if i was not on the pill. I can say the bleeding was considerably light considering I cannot leave out side my house when Im on my period usually. But the reason for me starting the pill was to not have periods at all!!!

im so glad i found this site.. i have been taking loestrin24 for almost a year now and i cant stand it. i started taking it about the end of august '07 and of course had some break threw bleeding in the first months. then it stop and my periods became so light, i always felt sick and my breast were very tender i thought i was pregnant. i wasn't, thank god, and decided to just keep taking the pill. the past couple months I've been break threw bleeding again and the pains get worse and worse. I've gained a good 10 pounds threw the course of it and know that its from the pill. I've not changed one eating or working out habit ever since i can remember and never gained or lost a pound then. i get unbearable headaches from time to time and I've lost a lot of self confidence since it makes me some what moody almost everyday. It pretty much just makes me feel like crap all the time. so i have decided today that i am officially done with loestrin24. it sucks.

BAD.... I hate it, and you should too.
I was on other BC pills in the past and they also cause the same side effects on me, I took them for 4 years and I quitted, four month later a got pregnant, two month after giving birth I had to get my gall bladder removed ( also a side effect of birth control). I started back on birth control because I in a serious relationship now and we don’t want to have kids at this time.
This pill is giving me lots of problems. I love to have sex with my boyfriend to the point I though I was a nympho and now my sex drive is BAD.....We start very good, and after a few minutes.....I get very dry and that’s the end of it. I hate it. My BF is the hottest men in the world (to me), and we had very good sex, we were like rabbits lol, I always had one or two orgasms, always natural lubricated. Now I get dry and we have to stop, I started the pill a month ago, I take it everyday at the same time, my breast is itching (I guess its growing) as the rest of body too, back pain and very irritable. I'm ready to quite, I’m going to try the IUD or the ring, Today I have the worst migraine and yesterday I had very bad mood swings all day, for not reason, I was seating in a meeting and all the sudden I want it to scream and run and just go off at everybody but a seat there and talk my self out of doing it, by telling my self it was the BC and I need it to come down cuz its nobody’s fault but the stupid hormones, I cry this morning also for no reason. IM DONE WITH THIS PILL. I won’t even recommend to my enemy.(migraines, mood swings, vaginal dryness, low sex drive, back pain, nausea, hungry all the time, breast tenderness, and I guess with all that depression its just natural)

Wow, I finally found a website that can explain everything. Like many of you others, I have had many side effects. I have been on Loestrin 24 FE for over a year now. I am constantly having breast tendernous, am on an emotional rollercoaster(so much that my husband is ready to leave me), problems wearing my contacts, severe headaches, and weight gain. I talked with my doctor about all of the issues I was having and was told that it couldn't possible be the bc that I was more than likely bipolar. After reading all of the other posts now, I am going back to the doctor and demanding to have my bc changed. Thanks ladies for looking out for all the rest of us.

Strange but for me as well....(I am on my fourth pack...just finished it yesterday) Four weeks ago almost (May 2nd) I got pain in my back around my kidney as well....I am calling the doctor this morning because this weekend I was barely able to move my back hurt so bad! I don't have any other side effects of a kidney infection so then I started to think.....maybe it is my birth control and wah la....apparently....I have also had the other symptoms such as my breast enlarging (wasn't going to complain about that!) but the tenderness is miserable and I also have had the weight gain ( i got a trainer for Christmas and started working out with him right when I started these pills and kept gaining weight! I still am...It is very frustrating but at least I know why now!) and I am very moody and tired! Thank god for postings! Good luck girls and hope everyone finds a pill that works for them! I sure hope I can!!

I am sorry too hear that so many women are having bad side effects from taking Loestrin24Fe. My experience for the last four months has been just the opposite. I was having severe bleeding from fibroids every month during my cycle and it was causing me many problems including severe anemia. Since I began taking these pills I am very pleased. My cycles last two days and are very light compared to before. I have experienced some tenderness in the breast but that is all. Everything else is just great. I give all the glory to God because he gave my new doctor the knowledge to recommend this as an alternate to having surgery. No depression, nausea etc. Thank you Jesus!!!!!

I was put on Loestrin24 Fe to control bleeding until such a time as I could have surgery. I took the first pill and started experiencing a sever mood swing right away. I became angry and depressed. My breast were tender. after a month the Anger and Depression were out of control. I was as hateful as I have ever been. My relationships were effected by my extremely negative attitude (which is completely out of character for me) and my sex drive well there was none. I suppose that is one method for birth control.... I started to notice fatigue, couldn't get out of bed had no energy, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath. Blood Clots...NOT FUN... NOT SAFE...

I noticed my old self returning almost immediately after stopping the pill. I don't think I cracked one smile the whole time I was on them. I am glad to be off and I will never take birth control again.

Please please if you are having sever symptoms. Shortness of breath and chest pains. DON'T WAIT to be TOLD to get off of them.... GET OFF OF THEM and GO to the ER immediately. YOU are talking about your LIFE...

I am on my first pack of Loestrin 24 Fe. I was doing okay except for constant breakthrough bleeding. This past weekend I was at a rehearsal dinner and wedding where I did a fair amount of drinking. On Monday I started feeling weird. By Monday night I was so weak and tired feeling that I couldn't lift my head. I've been laying on the couch for 24 hours and I still feel like the life has drained out of me. I"ve also had a stuffed nose and post-nasal drip since I started the pill. I went to the doctor this morning and they decided I needed iron pills to counteract the bleeding and an antihistamine and singlulair for the nasal symptoms. I'm now totally afraid of this pill!

OMG. I'm 25 and I have been on this pill for a lil over three weeks due to heavy bleeding from fibroids, and irregular periods. I hemorrhaged when I was 15 and had to have 2 blood transfusions. So my OB/GYN put me on Lo24 to stop my periods altogether. In this short amount of time that I have been on this medication I have experienced heavy bleeding w/ severe clotting since the second day of taking the pill from hell with extreme cramping comparable to that of a miscarriage :( and the mood swings are terrible I cry for absolutely no reason, am extremely sensitive and irritable most of the time, can’t sleep through the night, breast are swollen and sore, and have already gained about 15 pads in this short amount of time. I was going to try and stay on it for three months for my body to regulate it's self but after reading many of your post I am not sure what to do. PLEASE ADVISE. Sad to say I feel worse now than ever before

I am 24 and am in my second month of Loestrin 24 Fe. The first pack I started immediately after finishing my period and had another one for two weeks. I switched from my old to the new because I have about 30 cysts in my right breast and my doc thinks the difference in hormones will keep them from hurting. At the end of the first pack, I barely spotted for about two days. Although, I don't know if that's from the heavy bleeding for three weeks or that's how it's supposed to be. My breasts have gotten bigger, I can't sleep a full night, I cry for no reason but am extremely happy at other moments. I feel kind of manic/depressed on this. I'm concerned about the cysts because it doesn't seem to be helping much with those symptoms.

I'm 20 years old and have been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for six months. I've become moody and my breasts have gotten huge. I went from a barely 34 B to a 36 C, and they are still getting bigger. My sex drive is no where to be found and yes i have wonderfully short periods, but side splitting cramps. Anyone know of any other pills i should consider switching to that may cause my breast to not grow, hopefully shrink to normal and regulate my moods?

I am 17 and have been on this pill since august...I had the nausea and thats about it....lately I've had my period for about 4-5 days EVERY OTHER week....and now I've gone 2 weeks...is it because my body is finally getting used to the pill? Am I more than likely going to go back to my regular 28 day cycle? My breast are starting to feel a little tender but not a lot..my doctor put me on this a month after my son was born

I have been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for a year now and it has really worked well for me until this month. I had a break through bleeding for about 5 days, I never missed a pill and always take them at the same time each morning. Well it came time for me 2 start and I haven't started or spotted any at all. My breast are tender but thats it and I have only missed my period once while taking these pills. Could the break through cause me not to have my period? I am so stressed that I am pregnant!! If anyone has experienced this can you please let me know so I can have a little bit of relief...Thanks.

I've been on Loestrin for 7 months now and although it's helped me with cramps and period length, I am so sensitive and emotional, and recently I've been having some light abdominal cramping every day. It's not bad, but it makes me concerned that it's every day. Anyone else experienced this?

I hate this pill. I have been on it for four months and have had two periods every month. I get my "first" period on my second week of pills and my "second" period at the normal time. My first period is pretty heavy with cramps...the works. The second is more normal and shorter. This pill is horrible. Also my breasts are swollen and I am tired all the time. I want to switch but am scared that I will just be swapping side effects with another pill.

I am into my 2nd month on Loestrin and I don't know what to thinK. My breast are tender (but it's bearable) and they have inc. one cup size. I have no breakthrough bleeding ever, no cramps, no headaches. I do not take this for the birth control effect. I take it for shorter periods I used to have flawless skin on my face- not oily not dry, now it is breaking out and I can't deal with that. The acne is my only symptom- anyone have a similar story- any idea how long it might last? Are shorter periods worth having a mild acne problem...I think not..

I'm 16 years old.
My Mother has took me to a Gyno
in october 2006 .
I got on Loestrin 24 Fe, ive been on it ever sence,
I didnt really notice anything.

My mom had got me on birth control in the first place because
i've had my period sence i was 10 and I get very bad cramps and
alot of bleeding. Once i started taking the pill, I didnt get any better
on cramps, but a little less bleeding. I'm now noticing my breast are extremely sensitive, i'm very moody around everyone, and emotional. Sometimes I do think i'm pregnant, but my period always comes. Does anyone else have these problems? I'm thinking about telling my mom to take me back to switch pills. Is this normal to have these effect?

I havent had to much of a problem with this pill i went on this one for prevention of headaches, the pill seems to help until the brown pills then i have the wrost headaches. I have gained weight mostly in breast hip and behind, havent noticed a change in sex drive or vaginal dryness, however I just finished my 2nd month and NO PERIOD. called the ob and she said that is NOT right and that i should see her immediatlly! i have noticed a change in mood however i have been up and down more than usual cant determine if it is the pill causing this or the events in my life which currently dominate my every moment.

i have been on this pill for one month...about 2 weeks into taking it, my breasts have increased at least a cup size and are pretty tender most of the time and i was spotting. The worst side effect is that it has triggered my acne to flare up. Im 28 years old and my skin looks horrible. Im hoping this side effect will subside...ill keep you posted! Ive been a little more emotional than usual...BUT other then that...things have been great. Im going to stick it out for a few more cycles to give it a chance - if the acne doesnt clear, im going to have to find something else.
