I am at the end of my first packet and due to start the end cycle two days later. And to be honest i am utterly confused. I have been having late periods for the past few months and also suffered from mood swings. I was prescribed this Loestrin 24 mainly for some hormonal dis balance which was presumably causing these problem with menstruation. And now i have had more mood swings than ever, cried without reason felt depressed more often than ever. I have also had spotting at least 3 times over the month but not my regular period till date though it's been well over a month. to make it worse , i have eye pain and headache over the past few days. Sex has been rare this month!! dry vagina and almost no interest in sex , and I am just 28.
wasn't I better off with the small hormonal problem?

Well in just a few days i will be just now be on the brown pills for the first time being on loestrin, but to this day the entire time i have been on this pill i have been spotting on and off the entire month! its so annoying, well i went to my doctor, she said that its normal because i'm changing bc's and to just stick with it, that this is one of the best bc's to be on. I stopped my last bc "microgestin" because i started to get migraines and it made my period last for 2 weeks. I'm going to still with loestrin for a couple more months but this spotting crap has got to stop!

Hi Everyone! I was the most terrified to take this. Once I started, I felt that my life was upside down. I would my sister weeping at 3am, swearing that I couldn't take it anymore- the depression, the cramps, the aches. I was either sad or angry all the time. I couldn't trust myself! I felt like my body was turning on me. I started reading this board and decided that if my side effects lasted longer than a month and I stayed as miserable as they were for the first 2 weeks, then I would quit. Well, now I'm on the 3rd week of the 2nd pack and I'm ok! A few days ago, I did have some light- REALLY light-spotting. When I first saw it, I thought I was going to have my period for a whole month, like I did when I started. But its already gone! When I started the brown pills last time, (technically when my "real" period was supposed to start) I had some cramping and fatigue, but nothing like what I had been feeling before I started. Sometimes, I still question my mood. My dreams are strange and vivid too. And I have had a little weight gain, but can't tell if its just me or the pills yet. Next week is when my 2nd period on the Pill is supposed to start. I'm anticipating it lasting only 4 days, and not being too heavy or painful. But, these could be pipe dreams.
I guess my advice would be to try to stick it out for the whole 3 months. I think my body's not quite as angry with me anymore, and I'm not quite as angry with everyone else! So, hopefully, it will stay this way...I'll keep you posted!

I'm 22 and started taking Loestrin 24 two weeks ago on the first day of my period. I only enjoyed a few days after my period before I started spotting again, and now it's non-stop. I have also developed acne after a couple of weeks, am experiencing cramping and back/neck pain, and am becoming slightly irritable.
I have taken Nordette before and experienced virtually no side-effects. After reading all of these reviews, I am strongly considering getting off this pill.

I just finished my first month on Loestrin 24 fe. I have to admit, after reading online I was scared to start taking these pills after seeing some side effects. However, you have to keep in mind everyone is different and will react differently. So I prepared myself for any kind of weird things and side effects I may have. However, I have LOVED this pill so far. The only side effect I have had is my boobs have grown (which isn't so bad- ha ha). I think I have actually felt better on this pill as far as moods has gone. I used to have TERRIBLE cramps along with vomiting and backache. I would spend at least a few days a month in bed. Not to mention the week of hell before my period with PMS. But this first month on the pill I experienced none of what I normally would. My period came on the second day of the brown pills and lasted three days--very light too! I had no cramps and no PMS! I LOVE IT!!!

I know this is long, but I could really use your help, so I would appreciate you taking the time to read through to the end. (thanks :-) )
First, I want to thank everyone posting. I needed to read this stuff because I'm absolutely terrified of what's happening to me. I'm on the second week of my very first pack of Loestrin- my very first birth control pill EVER. I didn't want to start, but my OBGYN encouraged me to, once I told her I had 8 day long episodes of clots, cramping, vomiting and just sheer misery once a month. She said this would help if I'm sure to take it as recommended.
So I took the first one the Sunday after my period started, at 8:45am and have taken it religiously since. I have not changed my diet or routine. I exercise and eat fairly well. And there are no particularly stressful factors in my life. I am also quitting smoking- just down to 2-3 a day instead of 10 or 15.
Now that I've been doing this for 2 weeks, I think I would rather suffer what I had before. At least it was predictable! I have been bleeding for 5 days now. And this is NOT my time to be on my period. I'm sad and tired. I have back pain and on-and-off cramps. I have nearly no sex-drive. My boyfriend and I had sex at least 4 times a week and I masturbated on the nights we didn't. And although he is INCREDIBLY supportive, I can tell he feels lost and helpless around me. I don't want him to touch me, hold me, or even breathe on me! Normally, we are very affectionate and I am active and fun. Now, I just want to be left alone. I feel fat, unwanted, dirty, depressed...the list goes on.
I feel as though there is something seriously wrong with my body, because I shouldn't look or the feel the way I do or bleed like I am. I called the doctor and she said that I should give it till the end of the month. But 1 month is a long time to live with a depressed quality of life. 1 month is a long time to cry yourself to sleep with alcohol and Motrin.
I feel angry that the best the medical society can do is give us something that is trial and error, fully aware that it may hurt us, though temporarily, and make the lives of the people around us miserable. I am concerned the even my doc is in the pocket of some pharmaceutical company to give me a drug that she said would help and has only hurt.
Or maybe I'm just paranoid...
Anyone have any encouraging reasons why I should continue this? My sister, who was on Ortho for a while and DIDN'T like it, suggests that I stick out a little longer and I trust her opinion, but would like more. I'm open to suggestions or comments. (Especially if you know a way to stop my period so I spend less days of the month on it than I am on...)
Thanks :-)

I'm glad I found this site. I started taking these pills last month (June 09). I began experiencing spotting the second week of taking this pill and it never went away. I've had several of the other issues including unusual abdominal and leg pains and a fast heartbeat. I thought I was going to have to quit taking them. Now I'm thinking I should hang on a little longer. I just started pack two and this is day four. My period seems to still be on or maybe it's the spotting again though it seems heavier than last month. I was prescribed these pills to control heavy bleeding but I'm sure I've bled more in this last month than before. I also had the worst cramps I've ever experienced when I had three white pills left in the first pack. The next day my period started and then stopped going back to the spotting. So far, my period has been on for six days--the second and third days were very heavy and the rest relatively light. I think I'm going to stick it out for a couple more months just to see if my everything levels out. These pills are definitely "off the chain".

Hello! I am 19 years old...been on birth control since I was 14 to regulate my periods. I just started Loestrin about a week and a half ago. I started on a Thursday and by the following Tuesday I was crying for no reason!! My hormones are so out of whack! I broke up with my boyfriend because of it (we are back together) because I thought it was him even though he hasn't done anything wrong. I stopped taking them yesterday. Today I still cried. I think it will take a few days before the depression goes away. But I am never taking Loestrin again! I have a friend that was on it and she was depressed for a while!! I cry for no reason, I have been SO nauseated and I have had headaches! This is ridiculous!! I have taken plenty of birth control pills and NONE OF THEM have made me feel this way! My suggestion... NEVER TAKE THE PILLS. I missed taking the pills by an hour ONE day and the next day I was spotting. How ridiculous is that?!?! So.. I would suggest not to take them.

Hi I have been on Loestrin for one month and I think I am going to stop them. I am 44. I was on Desogen for 8 years and did well, but as I got older, I noticed that during my period, I felt like I was falling off a cliff. The hormone high down to my probably low hormone self.
I had no trouble during my month on loestrin, except, I have had no period. NONE. It is weird. I am a heavy bleeder and nothing. Just a few drops. I also have had a massive headache for the last four days. I am not sure what this pill is all about. I have read all of your comments and so now I know that not getting a period is rather normal for this pill, but I think it is strange. I wouldn't mind a short one for a few days, but none? Not sure what to do or how going off pills completely will effect my hormones?

I am currently on my 2nd pill pack of Loestrin 24. Prior to that, I was taking Yasmin, which was causing yeast infections and nausea. My doctor switched me to Loestrin, thinking the lower dose of estrogen would help with the nausea. The first month of being on Loestrin was okay, although I spotted for about 5 days halfway through the pill pack. I had a little bit of nausea, and my first period was EXTREMELY light, barely a period at all. I started taking my pills again on Sunday, and Monday morning I felt extremely nauseous, so much that it left me in bed all morning. All week I felt waves of nausea, no vomiting though. Then yesterday was day 5 of the pill, and I felt the worst case of nausea ever. The only thing I can attribute all of this nausea to is the pill. I don't know what to do....I don't feel myself on this pill and I'm sick of feeling sick.....I would rather have cramping and period for a few days than feel nauseous every month.

i hope you can help me. my daughter is almost 17 and started on yaz for severe cramps, heavy bleeding, and pmdd. within 2 weeks, the boyfriend that she hated to be apart from, annoyed her. he was all she thought about before.
about a week later, she said that everyone was bothering her and she needed a break from everyone. she stayed in her room in the evenings-not like her. she even broke up with her boyfriend. she said she wasn't upset with him, just not interested. she got back with him 2 days later. her gyn switched her to loestrin. after 2 days, she seemed to be doing better, but only for 3 days. i don't know if it's the hormones or if she's going through something. she is normally an upbeat, optimistic person. i don't know what to do. she was very serious and happy with this boy 3 weeks ago. i don't know if she could be depressed because she doesn't feel the same about him or she doesn't feel the same about him because of the pills. any opinions or suggestions?

Wow...I'm so happy to come across this website. I haven't been on the pill for years -- got tired of the side effects, but am leaving for a beach vacation tomorrow and realized that I'll be getting my period tomorrow too. I asked my doctor if there was something I could take to stop my period, or delay it so my vacation time is less bothersome and she gave me Loestrin24Fe. She said to start taking it the first day of my period, and then my period would phase out after 2-3 days. I'd have to take the whole month just to stay regulated, but I've been really struggling with this decision. This chat room has certainly helped. I'd rather deal with a few days of inconvenience at the beach than deal with increased anxiety, mood swings, pain and lord knows whatever else. Thanks ladies.

I have been on Loestrin 24 FE for a little over a year.I stopped taking it a few days ago because I could not find any other explanation for my hair loss. I used to have a full head of hair and my hair is so thin that I am becoming to be self conscious and wonder if my hair will ever grow back!! I was wondering if those that have experienced hair loss, if your hair ever grew back??

I was prescribed Loestrin 24 because I wasn't getting my period at all. Ever since I was 15 I would get it once a year at Christmas time and it would be extremely heavy. After I graduated it got a little more frequent but it was still only happen here and there. I've been on it for about 10 months and aside from the breakthrough bleeding for a few days I have had no other side effects. I have headaches but I had those before I ever went on this. My concern after reading these comments is, is my period going to stop all together? I know everyone seems to be happy about that but I'm worried. The whole point of being on it is to actually get it.

hi ladies, im 18 years old, and i started taking loestrin 24 almost a month ago. The first 2-3 weeks i felt no different as i usually would. No depression, No headaches, but i did experience strong emotions, like i wanted to cry more often over practically nothing.. for a few days, but that went away. Randomly i started spotting between the 2nd-3rd week, but it wasn't just light spotting. I bled for about 6 days. Having sex felt a little different. Once the bleeding was gone, now ive been spotting here and there for the past few days. My mom says that it might not be strong enough hormones for me, so if any of you are having this problem, ask your doctor because it may not be working as a contraceptive. I guess we will see how it goes!

I am currently on Loestrin 24, and have been for four months. The first month, I experienced breakthrough bleeding after two weeks, then it went away a couple days later and I had a very, very light period. Then, The second month, everything went well and I had a normal period. In the third month, I experienced a light period, again. Then, in the fourth month, i experienced the weirdest things yet. Now, keep in mind I was stressed out from moving, but I had a full-fledged period in the second week of my pills. Then, things were off and on because I kept on taking it late, or forgetting until the next morning, for three days. Then, because of this, I had a light, ovulation period again, like not even a period at all. Finally, when I did get to my brown pills, I did not even have a period, except for some spotting (again) on the last brown pill. i still have it now, although I haven't taken the first white pill of the next month yet. I am really quite aggravated, and worried that it isn't working and will not do it's job at preventing pregnancy. I have also been experiencing sharp headaches since taking the pill, loss in appetite for sex, moodiness, and bitchiness the day before I get my period, and most recently, for the past two nights, I have not been able to sleep.

Well, I have been on Loestrin for about two months now, and I have gotten my period 4 times. 2 of them were regular, and the other 2 weren't as heavy but lasted a few days. It is a very annoying side effect and not the only one I have experienced.
I am already a sensitive person, but now I'm crying and listless. I don't want to talk to anyone and I just want to sleep. I either am super emotional or don't display any emotion, and I am attributing this to the pill.
I also threw up this morning and had an upset stomach. I would almost think I was pregnant if I didn't have my period so much.
Lastly, I don't know if this is a side effect of the pill or not, but I definitely don't feel the same down there. I feel somewhat irritated and I just saw my GYN, got screened for all STD's and she found nothing...I really think that these issues are from this BC - there's no other reason that the last two months have been this bad for me.
I will stop taking this right away.

I am 18 years old and have been on Loestrin 24 fe for over a year to regulate periods. I had not done much research before taking this and I wish I would've. At first everything was well besides the weight gain. My periods were short and I had no cramps. After a few months of being on this bc i was extremely moody and depressed. I was never like this before. I now find myself to be tired and exhausted even after a good nights rest. When I get to the brown pills in the end of the pack I get some type of period but not enough to call a flow or even to need a tampon. This is simply not the right bc for me. I'm glad i came across this site to see a lot of other people are experiencing the same side effects. I will be getting off of this nightmare in a pack just as soon as I get to an obgyn. Do the research before you start taking any type of bc.

Hey so its me again. I talked to my mom a few days after making my last post on this site. We decided I should stop taking this pill because even my mother began to notice the change in me. Its been a few days and I'm still feeling the symptoms.
Anyone who had a negative experience and stopped taking the pill, how long did it take for things to turn normal again?

forget it! don't let it pass your lips! i am 38yrs old and going through a very stressful time in my life. my periods have always been regular and short. a couple of months ago i started experiencing 2 periods per month with the most recent one lasting 20 days. ugh! gross! my doc put me on this pill to regulate and stop the bleeding. started taking it right away and my period stopped almost immediately. a few days later i would start again with heavy bleeding that would last for about 6 hours and then be completely gone. a few days later, the same thing. this went on for 3 weeks. now i have started a full blown period and have another week and half until my brown pills. as mentioned i am going through a very stressful time in my life, but i am not a person to suffer from depression or be emotional. i always see the silver lining and can make the most of any situation. i eat healthy, i take care of myself. my sex drive has always been through the roof. i am in the prime of my life! now? i am tired. i am gloomy. i could care less about social engagements. i am negative. i have weird discomforts in my calves and abdominal area, i cry over spilt milk. sex? seriously? who cares about that?! if i could lay in bed all day, eat chips and dip, drink wine, cry and watch mindless tv ... life would be grand. this is not me! also, i get pimples in places i never thought possible -- my arms and legs! ew! my doctor wanted me to take this pill for 3 months. not a freaking chance. my other option is to get an ablation. i've known several people who have gotten this done and have never heard nor read anything negative about this procedure. bent over today with heavy (non due) bleeding and cramps, i just called my doc and said, "screw your pill, ablate me."

Hi everyone,
I started taking these pills about a month ago and am just about done with my first pack in a couple of days. Like many of you, I felt MISERABLE when I first started taking these. For the first 10-12 days, I had head aches everyday, along with mood swings, and really bad cramps. I almost stopped taking them. I even called my Doctor and she gave me the same old thing about my body needing time to adjust to them and that she wanted me to continue taking them for another 2 months. ( Total 3 months) before she considered switching me...
Well, after about the 12th day on the first pack I started feeling A LOT better! I was so relieved! Everything is back to "normal" for me and I have not had any more problems. I just hope that it STAYS! All I can say for everyone out there, is that I guess everyone is different. If you have only been on this for a few days/weeks and want to give up, just try to stick it out a little longer and maybe things will get better for you too! I know it is hard, but I am now glad that I did. I would have hated to get on another brand and have the same thing happen to me on that one!
I hope that if this is not the pill for you all, that you find something soon to relieve all your symptoms!
Good Luck!

I know I just posted a really long post but I also have a question. Warning the question is kinda nasty and personal. To any reading that is willing to answer: When I get my period now (since I've started the pill) I don't bleed regularly. The only way I can describe it now is the blood looks like Old blood and to me it is just disgusting. I was wondering if anyone else had had this issue....?

First few months on this pill went fine. On the 4th month I started with the spotting. By the time the 5th or 6th month rolled around I would have my period it would stop for a few days and then start again at mid cycle. I was getting two periods per month. This month I started spotting on day 15 and now 9 days later I'm still bleeding. I need to be on some form of birth control pill to control extremely heavy periods. Ok so I don't have the extreme bleeding anymore but I have my period all the time. I could live with spotting but this is full on break through bleeding. My doctor wants to try something new but I feel like a guinea pig. I just wish there was some pill that came with a guarantee. :(

I just want to thank all of you on this blog and other blogs. I was going to start this pill for pms and pmdd. I feel like I have the flu when I have my period. I am so exhausted. Bleeding is not so bad, cramps could kill me but thank god for alive and Advil. I started to get headaches about 2 years ago during my period or a few days before and sometimes the aleve and Advil don't help it even though they help my cramps. I am a group fitness instructor and don't want to feel sick or be unable to teach my classes. But after reading the side affects that could happen forget it. About 20 years ago( i was 18 then) I was on pills and had severe panic attacks and was hospitalized for a week. They couldn't directly pin it on the pill but trying it a year later and having it happen again I never took them again. I was assured by my gyn that pills have changed and that I would be fine on loestrin24 but I just can't chance it. I would say to the people who have severe bleeding and prolonged bleeding, fibroids or other problems, find a pill that can maybe help you. But for those of you who just need it for birth control and are having these problems, find another method. It is not worth it if you loose you sex drive, have mood swings and depression or any other of the horrible things I read can happen. And if you are predisposed to panic and depression, I wouldn't take it after reading all these complaints. The bad is outweighing the good on all the blogs I have read. Thanks again and good luck ladies!!

I've been on Loestrin for almost 5 months now, but I'm still not so sure how I feel about it. Before I took the pill, I had 7 day long, heavy periods, headaches, cramps, vomiting- the whole nine yards. The first month I took the pill, I got my period as usual, but for about 5 days ( the 5 days I happened to be on vacation, fun). The next month, my period lasted about 4 days, the next month three days, and this past month I didn't get it at all. I have to admit, I was quite relieved when I read some of other comments with women also having missed periods, or no periods altogether, as I'm not ready for a mini-me quite yet. The only major problems I've had with this pill so far are severe mood swings, which my boyfriend doesn't appreciate very much, and the last few days I've had severe pain in my lower abdomen, which, if it persists, will force me to visit my gyno. Overall, I do like this pill, it's really toned down my migraines, which I've had for years, and seems to be quite effective at lessening my heavy blood flow and severe cramps.

Tomorrow will be my last day of the first pack of Loestrin, but during my 3rd week I got a period. Is this NORMAL? I am not used to taking a daily medication and I forget to take it at the same time everyday, even though I normally try to take it when I wake up in the morning. I wear a panty liner because I have been spotting for the past few days, even after the "regular" period was over

I'm in the middle of my third month on Loestrin 24 Fe. I used to be on Estrostep years ago, before I had children, and now am on this because of the low dose and my age (37). The first month, there was some staining near the end, then a lighter period (mine used to be 7-10 days, around 5 oz of fluid). On Loestrin, it's about 4 days, only a couple of oz. However, month 2, in the first week of pills, I took one pill about 8 hours late, then a few days later, took a pill about 6 hours late. The day of the second late pill, by two hours after I normally took the pill, I was cramping pretty badly and started bleeding like a full period. The bleeding lessened over the month, but never went away. Light period following. Now, on month 3, about 2 weeks in without having been late on any pills, I have had spotting the last few days and light cramping. Plus, the one time my husband and I had sex about a week after my period, there was some brownish blood afterwards, which he hates. So basically, he now refuses to touch me.
I have also noticed being more emotional, like I felt the two weeks after giving birth, crying more easily. I think that might be lessening now, though.
I am going to call my doctor to see if he recommends trying it one more month. I do remember that it takes around three months for a person's body to get used to oral contraceptives, although the first pill I was ever on (Ortho Novum 7-7-7) made me bleed lightly the entire six months I was on it, and when I switched to Nordette 28 that problem was solved. I just know that I can't have this spotting continue since my husband is so sensitive to any hint of blood, and I don't relish the idea of never having sex again. NOT the way birth control pills are supposed to work!! ;-)

I was on Yaz for a year, but had some side effects (tingling in the arms and legs, swelling) so my doctor put me on LoE24. I have been on it a month and my world has turned upside down. Just a few days after I started LoE24, I got Bell's Palsy, which is a condition where half your face goes paralyzed. I've had it before, so I thought nothing about it having to do with my bc. Well...2 and a half weeks later I broke out, like I was 14 again (im 21). Its all over my face and neck. I am going to the neurologist tomorrow, but I have been very irritable, TIRED, and anxious. I switch back to Yaz in a couple days....

I'm 22 years old and I've been taking Loestrin since the end of February. I haven't had any real severe side affects from it. It's my first time on birth control and I was very weary about getting on the pill all together. I do notice my period is different. Sometimes I'm really heavy for 5 or 6 days and sometimes I don't see any blood. I don't notice much nausea from it and I was really concerned about that before I starting taking it. I do notice my libido is down and I don't have much energy. I need to switch off of this pill because it's not in my price range. I'm trying to find a pill that was actually kind of similar to it. A pill that was low in hormones more particularly. Does anyone have any suggests?

I just posted a few days ago but need to update. I just started the 4th pack. I Had normal period(slightly longer than when I'm off birth control. on the brown pills third pack and no break through bleed or spotting. But my breast are extremely tender which didn't end with the end of my period. I'm extremely fatigued but have sleepless restless nights. i've developed rashes in the creases of my breast. Not fun. My sex drive has gone down and so has any feeling during sex. My poor husband doesn't understand. I'm moody. I have no appetite but am slowly gaining weight. Crappy pill. I just keep sticking it out because although my husband and I would someday like to have kids, today is not the day as we are both still students. I'll give it till the end of the month and then maybe I'll switch to a new pill.

This site really helped me out.. I think I'm stopping all of this nonsense. It might just be me, but I was on Tri-Sprintec for 2 months when I first started birth control all together, and it made everything worse. I bled way heavier and my cramps were something from hell, TRUST me.
Then my insurance company pretty much screwed me over and didn't give me my birth control for a month.. so my doctor told me that I should just switch since I'm off it anyways.
So.. I get this Loestrin24fe. I take it the first day of my period because my doctor told me that it was the safest way as to not get pregnant. And then I bleed for over 2 weeks... which is NOT NORMAL for me at all. My periods last normally a few days, not 2 weeks! So then I wake up one night throwing up, and I'm a complete bitch to everyone and I'm constantly moody and depressed and my boyfriend is a saint for putting up with me. Not to mention the fact that only a week after my period ended, I was spotting the nastiest brown blood all week. It was terrible and just UGH. And it hasn't stopped..
And then one day I was feeling extremely sick, my head felt like it was 10000 degrees and my stomach felt like something was punching it, and that was the night that my boyfriend said that he hoped I wasn't pregnant. So of course, being 18, I ran out, bought a pregnancy test, and it came out negative. Then I started the brown pills and the spotting I have been getting for almost 2 weeks now just got kinda heavier. No change in the weird brown color, just a bit heavier. And cramps from HELL again.
So coming onto this site made me feel better. I'm not the only person feeling like this is the worst idea of all time.
I have one more pack of this, and I'm going to the doctor soon. I don't want to give this bc a chance if this is whats going to happen to me the whole time. Not having a period? Are you kidding me? Some people put that, I would FREAK OUT!
Something better change in this new pack or me and Loestrin, we're so over.

i have been taking Loestrin for only 1 week and feel the worse i have felt for a long time. I changed from Cilest to Loestrin as my sex drive was 0. After a few days i suddenly felt so dizzy and light headed. I thought i was going to faint at any second. I also feel all 'not with it'. I am not taking anything else nor been drinking etc. I have also had very bad mouth ulcers (to which i am not sure if related) but all a bit strange just days after taking Loestrin.
I have been back to Dr.s twice but have not suggested anything. I have stopped taking them and hopefully this awful feeling will go to. It really doesn't give me much hope reading other stories.

I'm 19, and am only 5 days into my loestrin24fe...
and so far, I haven't had anything negative, Like, I always eat like a horse anyways, not that it hurts me, I'm 5'2" and about 130 pounds...
I have noticed that it seems in the past few days, my sex drive has actually increased, like my boyfriend shows up, and it's all I can do to not rip his pants off. For me being on the petite side, my bra is like a B, and they look large on my small frame anyways, any idea how long it's going to take for their size to increase, if at all? I'm going into the Navy and I leave for bootcamp on the 26th, and if I end up with too-small bras there, it's gonna suck...

I was taking Orthotricyc and then told my doctor I wanted to get rid of the cycle all together so she told me to continue taking the pills and don't stop them. So that is what I did for 3 months and the cycle didn't stop. I went back to the doctors and she suggested that I take Loestrigene24. I did this until Memorial day weekend and the cycle was still here (so you are talking about 5 months now of bleeding straight). So I called my doctor again and she suggested this time taking two Loestrigene24 at one time for one week and then call her back with the results. Well one week went by and still bleeding. So I decided to go to my OBGYN doctor and ask what to I do. He told me to stop taking pills all together so your system can flush out. Well in June I noticed a rash on my arms, I thought it was sun poison. These next few days the rash spreading to my legs then all over by body. I went to the doctors and they told me that it looked like pserious. I really don't think so. The gave me a steriod pill for 10 days I took that and the rash was going away. Well then it came back so the doctor then put me on a steriod cream and I am still putting it on at night time. I am so tired of this. I was wondering if anyone has had the rash? or if you know what to do about it.

I was really liking this BC, I was on Mircette before and it made me crazy, constant crying, weight gain (I'm on the collegiate rowing team, and we work out for 2+hrs/ day) No reason fro gaining 6 pounds in 7 days. Everything was going fine with Loestrin 24 Fe, but now i've been bleeding for the past week, before the brown pills started... but i guess we'll see what happens in the next few days.
For the people who experienced bloating, I did also on the first day, but if you take a B6 vitamin then it goes away, (I heard that from another gynecologist)

I have been taking Loestrin 24 for almost a year now. I am not sexually active but I had such a heavy period so my doctor put me on it. At first my period was really weird and I would get random spotting which was really annoying but now its pretty regular and light like a normal period should be like. Except one problem I have is that I get headaches for a few days and sometimes my headache is like a substitute for my period which I still need to tell my doctor. I feel a lot better taking the pills although sometimes I will get cramps but thats normal. The only problem I have is headaches.

I've been on this thing for about 3 days. I've been feeling nautious since the first day, but at first it would be mild & would go away within a few minutes. Tonight I'm lying in bed, dying with stomach pains, not cramps, intense stomach pains. Nausea...... stomach pains again. Nausea..... pain again. I ran to the bathroom like 5 or 6 times to puke and eventually gave up. I look like a freaking whale, too. I'm a little 110lb girl but I've gained easily a few pounds in the past few days and it shows. My dad slapped me on the stomach today & asked me if it was "a new addition to the family." My lower stomach area is all bloated. Just sitting here I can feel my stomach churning. Anyone else feeling my stomach pains? I mean really.

I finished my first pack about a week ago, and once I started the second pack I started to get all the side effects. My first month was fine, for the most part. I spotted for a few days, but that wasn't too bad. Now, I'm starting to feel depressed all the time, I feel nauseated after I exercise, tired all the time, and my cramps have been increased! I started the BCP to stop my horrible cramps and sure, they've been better, but I get a mini-cramp everyday now! My back, shoulders, neck and legs hurt all the time, my boobs are tender and uneven. I've also noticed a gain in weight. I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering, but I just want this to STOP!

I am almost through my first pack of Loestrin 24 Fe and so far not a fan of it. I have tried many pills in the past and they had all made me gain weight. After not being on a pill for a year (and not having a period), my new OBGYN put me on this one to try because she said it didn't have the weight gain affect I had experienced on the other ones. On my second week of this pill, my breasts were very tender, I had cramping and started to spot daily. I also noticed that I am having trouble with my contacts and eyes and I am getting sun spots on my face. I am not sure if those last two are related to the pill or not. Has anyone else had any of these symptoms? Since I started spotting it has increasingly gotten heavier to where I have to wear a tampon daily and I am supposed to get my actual period on Wed/Thurs. of this week. So right now I feel like I have been on my period for a week and a half already. Is anyone else experiencing this? Please email me and let me know ******

I've been on Lo24 for a few weeks now and don't like it at all. This is my first experience with bc and was put on it as a hormone therapy. I had a tubal ligation 11yrs ago and am a cancer survivor most likely starting perimenopause. Since my tubal my periods have only lasted 3 days, well let me tell you, with this pill it seems like i've had my period everyday since starting it. I have the tender breasts, bloating, weight gain, painful intercourse, and stomach hurts to the touch like so many others have described. I have stopped taking the pill a few days ago and I'm still bleeding. How long will it take for all these side effects to go away? I'm especially looking forward to the bleeding and weight gain to go away. I worked hard in the last year to lose 50 pounds and am very upset now that my pants are snug because of this damn pill. My gyno said there would be no weight gain, minimal spotting for a few days...nice to know they like to bullshit us. I wish I never started on this, lesson learned.

Hello everyone! Well I started with Loestrin 24 January 2008. I have previously used the ortho evra patch & the NuvaRing. I decided to try bc in the first place, because I had extreme periods lasting more than 9 days sometimes 13 days every two weeks. I tried to stay away from pills in general mostly because I have a tendency to forget to take them. Once the other methods failed to control my periods, I decided to to try the pill. The first month I got that really weird brownish discharge type period then a couple of weeks later, during the white pills I got very heavy spotting to a light period for almost a week. then the normal period. After that my periods are amazing! a few days, very light & hardly any cramping. that only lasted a couple of months. Now I have very ugly acne on my face, back and chest. I have gained about 10 lbs & I am always crying! I found myself just running home to lay down just to get away from people... I am going to finish this trail & discontinue the pill. Hopefully my heavy irregular periods don't start up again right away.

Hi, I know this section is for posting side effects but I was wondering if someone could please help me and provide me with some information. I am very athletic and active so any type of spotting/bleeding is NOT FOR ME. I am trying to eliminate my monthly period. I was on Depo Provera for several years and loved it. No periods everything fine except for a low sex drive. Then I ran into some problems and had to stop that. Plus my doctor said it causes osteoporosis.
Then I tried Seasonique which was awful as I had instant weight gain and breast tenderness like crazy. Was only on that for a few weeks!!!
Then I heard about Lybrel which is supposed to stop your periods after some time so I started that at the end of December last year (2007). I had spotting and some bleeding EVERY DAY and a few days ago had a lot of bleeding but I also played with the dosage per doctor's request. So I saw my doctor today and I said enough is enough what else can I try? So she gave me the Loestrin 24 Fe and I will start that Sunday. She said many people stop having periods after a few months of use. HOWEVER, after reading these posts, I am thinking NO BC is right for me now. If anyone can help me on my goal of eliminating the curse or convince me that this pill is OKAY after 3 months I would appreciate it. Please email me at escarle1@hotmail.com. Thank and I hope to hear back soon!

First let me say that I am glad that this just isn't in my mind! I thought that I was going crazy!!
My doctor put me on Loestrin 24 at the end of last month after I had a miscarriage. Since I have been on this pill, I have noticed my mood swings and I am more emotional. I noticed the vaginal dryness and my lack of interest in sex. I was on Yasmin for about a year prior to this...missed a few days and got pregnant. But I never experienced any of this side effects before. I don't see my doctor again until May, but I am definitely going to ask about changing my pills. He told me to take this pill two months straight without a break in between. I am now having my period and it is slightly brown. I am afraid of infection or something....this is really starting to freak me out...

I just had a baby at the end of December, so at the end of January I got my first period and started taking Loestrin 24 Fe (prescribed to me). During the month of February I experienced a little bit of spotting, which they say is normal during the first few months after starting birth control, and got my period when I should have. But starting at the beginning of March, I became extremely irritable and snappy, as if I was having PMS times 1,000. I also experienced very heavy spotting. Nevertheless, 2 weeks after I got off of my last period, I got my period again for no reason, with no change in length or heaviness. Having just got off of that one a few days ago, I have now gotten my period again today, with no change in heaviness. And I am still extremely irritable and snappy. So at the end of this month, I will no longer be taking this product.

I just finished my 2nd pack of Loestrin 24, before that I had been on Enpresse (generic i believe) for about 3 years. A week after I started taking this pill I had spotting for a few days...and now I haven't gotten my period at all, not at the end of either pack. I called my gyno yesterday and he asked if I felt anything abnormal and when I said no he said that if I don't get it at the end of this new pack to call him back. I took a pregnancy test after the first month of not getting my period and it came out negative (twice). I'm debating whether I should take another one since I didn't get it yet again...has anyone else stopped getting their period?

i am on the first week of my second pack, after switching from orthotricyclinLo (which i loved, but my gyn suggested i switch so that she could give me samples while i was abroad). a few days before my first "period" (if you can really call it that...it was ridiculously light as far as periods go)at the end of my first pack i started getting bad stomach cramps. i attributed it to my body getting adjusted to foreign food, but the cramps, while less painful, are still rather persistent and range from my stomach to lower-left side. i have also been experiencing weird hunger, in which i have the desire to eat but everything seems unappetizing or makes me nauseous.
i started freaking out, thinking i had some strange std symptom, but i have no other symptoms and have been in a monogamous relationship for the past 9 months. and while i have yet to take a pregnancy test, i have been on birth control for the past 4 years (so my uterus is something of a barren wasteland) and i use condoms with my boyfriend. i was freaking out a bit with these side cramps, wondering whether or not i should make a doctor's appointment. when taking orthotricyclinLo i had little to no side effects, and i have never gotten menstrual cramps before, so i hadn't thought that this discomfort could be from my pills. i was thinking of making a doctor's appointment, but after reading this blog am reconsidering, and might just wait out another month or so.
has anyone else had a similar cramping/discomfort experience, and did it ever subside?
thanks!

Yeah, well I've never been on any birth control pills in my life and I'm 26 years old. I just started my second week of them and it appears that I am having some kind of period now. I'm bleeding as you would on a 3rd or 4th day of a period. In addition, I was working out at the gym a few days ago when I had a sharp pain in my upper chest. It caused shortened breaths for a minute, but I've never experienced this before. I also have out of control hunger usually starting around 4 in the afternoon and lasting until I eat something of a significant portion. I refuse to gain weight, so I am working out regularly but if I see this stuff is putting on a pound...I will be done!!! I am only reading negative about this pill. I will take myself off of it if this persists. Good luck ladies!!!

My mom actually put me on Loestrin24 back when I was 17 because I had always had severe cramps that would keep me home from school 3 days in a row each month. (I loved it, she didn't.) They were horrible and my period lasted at least 7 days at a time. I had minor acne and break outs beforehand but noticed that once I got into the routine of taking Loestrin daily, my acne has fluctuated to absolutely unbearable and back to just fine in a matter of a few days. Also, I've been really "mean", apparently, since I started it (according to my fiance). I think my very worst complaint would have to be the vaginal dryness during sex and lack of sex drive. Before I was on the pill, I used to want to have sex every day! I don't know if those were teen-hormones playing their part, or what but since I've started taking Loestrin I've had zero sex drive and it really does feel like a chore. It has started to take its toll on my relationship. I cannot stay lubricated during sex at all and quite frankly, it's embarrassing as well as making me feel bad that my fiance thinks he cannot keep me excited. I am blaming Loestrin and am strongly considering telling my doctor to put me on something a little less harsh. I'm glad I'm not crazy and that a lot of other women are experiencing the same side effects as I am. (Oh, and on top of that, mind blowing migraines.)
