First few months on this pill went fine. On the 4th month I started with the spotting. By the time the 5th or 6th month rolled around I would have my period it would stop for a few days and then start again at mid cycle. I was getting two periods per month. This month I started spotting on day 15 and now 9 days later I'm still bleeding. I need to be on some form of birth control pill to control extremely heavy periods. Ok so I don't have the extreme bleeding anymore but I have my period all the time. I could live with spotting but this is full on break through bleeding. My doctor wants to try something new but I feel like a guinea pig. I just wish there was some pill that came with a guarantee. :(

I have been on Loesterin 24 since Dec 2007 so far it has given me slight discoloration spots two under the breast, two on the shoulder blade and two on my arm, Mild to extreme moods swing, depression, nausea, headache, acne and speratic periods, ranging from a week before the period is suppose to start to two days after the period stops just to start all over again. Night mares and restless sleep patterns have been a usual.
I really do not recommend this birth control to any one but can’t stop taking it for fear of getting pregnant again.

One never knows exactly what causes what in our moods and emotional reactions. However, I've been taking Loestrin 24 for 1 year. I was a little more down that usual, not sure if it was the med. or other things but about 3 months ago out of nowhere I began having anxiety attacks, something I never ever had. I can't drive on highways and the anxiety just comes and goes and it is frightening. Physically, I feel better than any other pill (I've taken 3 others), don't really spot and stopped getting my period for the most part.

I'm 25, and I have never used bc. I was given this from my gyno. because my bf kept taking off his thingy. So the first day, the very first day my hair started to come out. I gave it two weeks, and threw it in the garbage. I had hair falling out everywhere, I had EVERY side effect listed. My vision was also screwed up. I didn't know what the hell was going on with me. My bf broke up with me, my moods were crazy, my boobs hurt, i had cramps, heavy bleeding, nausea, all i wanted to do was eat food, stomach pains, depression, anxiety, a headache, I was dizzy to the point were I just wanted to start crying, I even had the shits...This pill is a joke. I can deal with minor things like spotting, and I realize it takes 3 months for your body to adjust, but I couldn't even take it for 2 weeks. I did notice that if you take vitamins, the side effects were better.. but still my heart hurt so much I thought, holy crap, I'm going to have a mini-stroke at the age of 25. I am so thankful to god that I found this site and I could read other people's stories. I really think the idea of bc is wonderful, but until they make a pill that my body will accept- I'll stick with condoms, they have worked so far, I would even go on to say, I rather never have sex again then to go through the toll of this pill. This should have never been put on the market.

I have just started my third week on Loestrin24 and let me tell you, it has not been an easy 3 weeks. I have been on BC for what will be 9 months. The first two didn't work for me but this pill has already caused me problems. As im typing this i have bad stomach pains. I have had horrible mood swings. My poor boyfriend has dealt with so much. I took the pill one night and woke up a different person almost. I've thrown up, spotting, nausea, indifferent moods, etc.
I've read everyones comments on this pill and I've gotta say, im nervous. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow and hopefully get off of this thing. Condoms and a period are much better then these side effects.
For anyone thinking of starting this pill, as you can see from all the comments..i haven't found one positive one..the side effects occur in a matter of days...

I'm 20 years old and have been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for six months. I've become moody and my breasts have gotten huge. I went from a barely 34 B to a 36 C, and they are still getting bigger. My sex drive is no where to be found and yes i have wonderfully short periods, but side splitting cramps. Anyone know of any other pills i should consider switching to that may cause my breast to not grow, hopefully shrink to normal and regulate my moods?

I'm 28 years old and just began my second pack of Loestrin. The biggest annoyance is the fact I've been bleeding for 3 of the last 4 weeks. I got my period on schedule and began taking the pills the first day. The period lasted 11 days. Then I had a normal week. Then I started bleeding again, with less cramping but more bloating. The bleeding has been going on for 11 days now. My breasts are tender but not uncomfortable. Mostly my moods are normal but there are short spans when I get overly emotional(the sad, not angry type). Especially the first week I was taking the pill. I've gained a little weight but I'm hoping it's just from the holiday feasting. But darn this bleeding. My Dr. say it's just my body adjusting but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I'm giving it another month before deciding if I should give it up or not. Also, my face has been breaking out more.

Wow - so many of you with the same symptoms and side-effects I'm experiencing. I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen years ago with minimal side effects beyond slight weight gain during the first few months. With this pill, I feel like I've become a monster. I'm bloated and I've been bleeding for 9 days now (I started the pills the day my period ended, on the advice of my doctor. I began bleeding a week later and have not stopped.). I'm normally a very happy person, but in the 2.5 weeks I've been on this medication, my moods change faster than the weather - I go from happy to despondent over the smallest, most insignificant things and cannot be cheered up. I have constant anxiety. I've cried more in the last 2 weeks than I have in the last year. I get angry over nothing, and I feel lazy all the time. My normally above-average libido is in the toilet. Fortunately, my boyfriend is incredibly understanding and knows that the changes I'm experiencing are due to this new medication changing my body chemistry.
I don't want to be like this, though. I don't want to be angry, sad, anxious, lazy, or uninterested in sex. I don't want a month-long period for 3 months while my body adjusts. I'm not in the physical condition to be able to shrug off an extra 10 pound due to bloating, and I'm tired of popping Advil to deal with my cramps. Before I found this site, I thought maybe the symptoms would go away in the next week or so, but I've now decided I'm not waiting this one out - I'm calling my doctor and finding a different alternative. This is simply unacceptable.
Also, I know it has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the medication, but their website disgusts me. "Cammie's Story"? If they spent half that advertising budget on research to eliminate the horrible side effects of their product, perhaps the pill would sell itself.

I JUST started Loestrin 24 Fe (day one) and have been reading many articles and websites (anything from the literature in the research journals to the Mayo Clinic posts). I have just read through this entire site and took in all the feedback from the women who have shared the side effects. I have NEVER taken BC until now. I am trying it to keep monthly bleeding and mood swings to a minimum. BUT, I see some serious side effects (depression, acne, weight gain) - these seem worse than just dealing with the monthly symptoms and taking some pain relievers.
Should I STOP? Any advice from veteran birth control users?

I am 41 and Loestrin 24 seems to work for me better than my ortho 7/7/7. However I have noticed it's not working as well as when i started and my cramps are starting to get worse. If I forget to take it the first day of my new pack, I can notice a difference in my moods. Please note: Walgreens tells you there is no generic for this and Wal-Mart just advised me there is. I've been paying $50 per month when I could have been paying only $15.00

This is my first month on these pills. So far I think they are great. My cramps before were so bad I had a prescription for vicodin, now they have disappeared. I haven't had any break outs, and I use to be able to tell when my period would start because I would break out. My moods have been better than ever!! No swings or depression. I started these pills from microgestin to control my fibroid. I'll right back in 2 months, but this pill works for me.
