Loestrin 24 Fe and nausea

I am 32 and was on mirena 5years it works great for me but wanted to try something else so i decided to try Loestrin 24 and i feel like I am hyperventilating and depress, i been taking xanax for my moods i also have a lot of nausea and i feel so bad, my Dr. recommended to wait at least 1 year before i got back to Mirena but no way i just cant go for one more month like this.

I have been on Loestrin 24 for 8 days now and feel horrible. I am severely fatigued, have extreme back pain, slight nausea & light hotheadedness, and complete overall ill feeling. I was on Yaz prior to this and had the same side effects. I am stopping taking this immediately.

I started this damn pill the Sunday after getting my period (as instructed). By that same Friday I had a light discharge, by Saturday spotting, by Sunday dark bloody mucus, and by Monday I was flowing as I would with a unusually heavy period. I too have experienced severe mood swings; including depression, irritability and anxiety. Not to mention the fact that I have become a total and complete BITCH! I almost broke up with my fiance whom i've been with for almost 4 years. I was surprised to find that some of you have also experienced heart palpitations and feelings and severe heartburn. Saturday night I truly thought that I was pregnant due to the same continuous headache, a feeling of nausea towards foods I used to like, mood swings, bleeding, dizziness and a sudden swelling of my breasts. I have had bad experiences with BCPs in the past so I thought it was my body trying to regulate to Loestrin24. However after finding this site I am sure that what I am experiencing is due to the pill.
Posted on the Loestrin24 site is a statement about blood tests. I find it interesting that a blood test is not required before beginning this particular BCP. I think it would be interesting to arrange a live chat in a medical chat room at some point in the near future to discuss if there is any action we can take as a whole to seek help in correcting the physical and mental hardships we have experienced.

Okay, I am 16, have never taken any birth control,and I am in my 3rd week of Loestrin. My doctor told me that if i started the pill on the first day of my period (august 1) that i would not have to wait to have UNPROTECTED sex, but to be safe, my boyfriend and I waited until august 7th to have sex, we also had sex on the 12th. Around the 15th I had some light pink discharge that lasted for 2 days...this worried me a little but i did not think much of it. Soon after that I started having back pains, cramps, nausea, headaches, my breasts are swollen, VERY tender, nipples are larger/darker, you can see the blue veins in them also. I have been picky about foods,discharge has increased, and have had terrible heartburn and have been extremely emotional. I have also had pains in my knees and ankles, and smells make me very sick to my stomach. I am very worried that I am pregnant.....but I am not supposed to get my period until the 28th so I have to wait...if anyone has been pregnant or had these symptoms on Loestrin PLEASE let me know....Thanks!

I have also been scared that I'm pregnant with Loestrin 24. I have had headaches everyday, nausea, cramps, major mood swings, my sex drive has significantly decreased, my gums bleed a little when I brush my teeth and sometimes I wake up with dried blood on my teeth. My periods barely last a day, and I wouldn't even say I was bleeding. I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I'm thinking about calling my GYNO now and asking her to switch my birth control. I have never found a BC that is perfect for me, but these are the worst side effects I've ever had with one.

After reading these experiences others have had I feel like I'm not crazy for the first time in a long time. I have been on Loestrin for about 11 months, it is the first time I have taken birth control and I am 20 years old. Since starting this pill I have gained about 20-30 pounds, and figured it was just due to a change in my lifestyle. However, no matter how much I have worked out or changed my diet I just can't seem to get rid of the weight. I have had many of the other side effects too, like terrible anxiety, shortness of breath, unexplainable chest pain, terrible stomach pain, and I get extremely angry at the drop of a hat. My boyfriend has said that if my emotions continue to be this out of control he won't be able to handle it anymore. I have tried to control myself, but no matter what I do I feel like I am not myself anymore. I become dizzy for no reason and I have developed some type of acid reflux, has anyone else had this issue? My period is irregular even after 11 months; some times I have it for a week and a half, sometimes not at all, and my period was very regular before starting this pill. I am going to the gyno next week and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for another pill that does not cause so much turmoil.

I'm 25, and I have never used bc. I was given this from my gyno. because my bf kept taking off his thingy. So the first day, the very first day my hair started to come out. I gave it two weeks, and threw it in the garbage. I had hair falling out everywhere, I had EVERY side effect listed. My vision was also screwed up. I didn't know what the hell was going on with me. My bf broke up with me, my moods were crazy, my boobs hurt, i had cramps, heavy bleeding, nausea, all i wanted to do was eat food, stomach pains, depression, anxiety, a headache, I was dizzy to the point were I just wanted to start crying, I even had the shits...This pill is a joke. I can deal with minor things like spotting, and I realize it takes 3 months for your body to adjust, but I couldn't even take it for 2 weeks. I did notice that if you take vitamins, the side effects were better.. but still my heart hurt so much I thought, holy crap, I'm going to have a mini-stroke at the age of 25. I am so thankful to god that I found this site and I could read other people's stories. I really think the idea of bc is wonderful, but until they make a pill that my body will accept- I'll stick with condoms, they have worked so far, I would even go on to say, I rather never have sex again then to go through the toll of this pill. This should have never been put on the market.

I'm 20 years old, I've been on it only a week, and the only side effect I have experienced is a HEAVY discharge. Not dark or nasty, but just like a regular discharge but MUCH heavier and everyday. I'm wondering if something else is going on, but I (like the other girl that is 17) take it at the exact same time every day, at night, so that the side effects are at night. I had terrible nausea the first day, cramping the second, and now its great. I had terrible mood swings and spotting with other pills but this one is working well... so far... fingers crossed it will continue!

I am 25 and had never taken BC before in my life. Due to my love/hate relationship with condoms, I decided to give it a shot. My doctor prescribed me Lo24 because of the low amounts of estrogen. I started taking the pills 8 days ago. The first few days weren't too bad other than constant cramps, nausea, and super sore boobs. The last four were unbelievably unbearable. I was an emotional wreck and I cried hysterically a handful of times for no apparent reason. I was also really b*tchy (which I never ever am) and almost broke up with my amazing boyfriend whom I absolutely adore over petty nonsense. Worst of all experienced flu-like symptoms (hot sweats and chills), I felt terrible. I just couldn't understand how such a tiny little pill could have such a huge impact over my physical and emotional well-being. I literally looked in the mirror and asked myself aloud, "Who are you?" I couldn't understand why I felt and acted the way I did, it was like I was a completely different person at times, and I seriously missed "me." I decided I would rather abstain from sex altogether than subject myself and my love ones to another day of my emotional and physical rollercoaster ride. I had one of the most trying weeks ever because of those pills. I realize that everyone reacts differently to medication. My body personally completely rejected the drug, and my overall opinion of BC is severely tainted now. I just hope that now that I stopped taking them (today) that everything will return to "normal" again. Good luck ladies, and listen to your bodies, if it feels wrong, it probably is.

I am 22 years old and have never used bc before. About three months ago, I started using YAZ, and was absolutely fine for the first two months! About two weeks into my third pill pack I started having terrible nausea, dizziness, and I could not drive. I contacted my gyno, and was told i had to finish the pill pack before I could get switched to something else. I was told that the new pill, loestrin 24, would work out much better for me. Six days on this pill gave me extreme anxiety attacks, nausea, my heart was racing, headaches, etc. My gyno kept telling me i would be fine, but I could not take it anymore. I took myself off of the pill a week into it. It has been a little over a week, and I was feeling much better, but I seem to have slipped backwards some. The anxiety attacks have seemed to subside, but my heart is still racing and now i have numbness and tingling all down my left arm. Oh and ps, i get married in four days and start a new job in two weeks. Can anyone who has been through this tell me how long to expect this stuff to last?

I am 22 and didn't think i needed bc because even though i had terrible periods they were so regular i thought i could just track my ovulation. I was advised to start Loestrin 24 Fe by my gyno as a bc + a period helper (7-10 day heavy periods with sever cramps, bloating, head aches, and fatigue).I am now on day 5 of loestrin and was curious of the possible side affects not listed in the info that comes with the pills. I am totally shocked at some of the things i have read. While I feel lucky that slight nausea has been my only side effect so far I have become concerned. My grandma is a retired labor and delivery nurse and has assured me that some meds are just wrong for some people if I end up with some of the terrible side effects that some have had ( b.t. bleeding, stroke like symptoms, leg cramps, stomach cramps, chest pains…). I will be the first at my doctors office as soon as the symptom hits. As for the slight nausea, I will happily endure it for up to 84 days if it means the miserable periods I have been having for 10 years will finally be bearable/ gone. Hi all. I've been on Loestrin 24 for 5 months. I had some initial spotting - about two weeks into the first pack, but since then my periods have been regular and very short. I haven't experienced the mood swings, emotional stuff, nausea, etc. that many of you have described. I have gained some weight though. As in, 8 pounds. I haven't really changed my diet and my exercise level has decreased minimally. Anyone else experienced this? My md is actually writing a prescription for a generic version since my idiot insurance won't cover Loestrin. For those of you with negative side effects, hope you get to feeling better.

I am 39 yrs old w/ 2 children by c-section and started taking Loestrin 24 to help with horrible heavy bleeding I was experiencing during my cycle. I have read most of the side effects that other women have and I guess I just got lucky. My life has changed for the better since I started taking Loestrin about 3 months ago. The first month, I did still have a heavy period and my cylce seemed longer than usual but I hung in there to allow my body to adjust to the pill. Almost 3 months into taking the pill, I am so happy I finally went to my doc to so something about the heavy periods I have been having for 10 yrs. I did not have a cycle at all during my 2nd month but had a 3 day cycle for my 3rd month. I was actually glad to have at least that because I was a little concerned. My initial symptoms included: loose bowels (which I still experience but only in the morning,as I take my pill at night), my breasts got smaller (great!), maybe a tiny bit of nausea and some fatigue. After the 1st month all symptoms are gone except the loose bowels in the AM. I don't mind putting up w/ the extra trips to the restroom in the AM for a barely-there cycle each month. My advice for those that have just started the pill and not feeling so great is "Hang in There". It should get better. Good Luck Ladies!

the nausea was immediate, and I assumed that was the only side effect. Mind you my first 24-48 hours I started to feel so depressed about life and at night wanted a black hole to swallow me up. Eventually I was filled with panic and dread, never once questioning where this came from because hey, isn't life difficult sometimes? Eventually I went totally psycho on my boyfriend, who is coincidentally on the verge of ending the relationship because he is suddenly not sure if it was the pill or me. When I realized my misery coincided with the exact time line of taking the pill, I looked up side effects online and felt such a wave of relief. Mind you, when I called my doctor's office on a Saturday morning for a switch they wanted me to go to an ER because they didn't want to be liable if I killed myself (the doctor said she never heard of such a side effect in any of her patients - do not let your doctor talk down to you just because her patient pool doesn't do tea time with her). I haven't taken the pill in two days and the nausea is gone and the only sadness I feel is the deep realization of how awful I felt. It's working its way throughout my body, and now I just hope my boyfriend finds the compassion to not hate me for going nuts on me. So when you all right how wonderful your men have been...I'm a wee bit jealous.

Hello Ladies...There are so many comments that I could not get through them all. I am in my 3rd month on Loestrin 24 Fe. The first month I thought that I just had to be pregnant too based on all the symptoms I was having. My period has yet to start when it is suppose to start or finish when it is suppose to finish. The second month I thought that I actually was having a 3 day period but about a week later I started bleeding again for about a week. My cramping has been a lot worse as well. I know that you are suppose to give your body time to adjust to it, but I am not sure I can wait it out with this pill.

My doctor told me before I even started taking this pill that no birth control pill is perfect and that they pretty much will all give you some type of negative side effect from nausea to weight gain to dryness to lack of sex drive. I appreciated her honesty. My thought is that when picking a birth control pill its like picking THE LESSER OF THE EVILS. My fiance and I would rather not get pregnant right now, but I feel like a different person and I miss me.

I was on other BC pills in the past and they also cause the same side effects on me, I took them for 4 years and I quitted, four month later a got pregnant, two month after giving birth I had to get my gall bladder removed ( also a side effect of birth control). I started back on birth control because I in a serious relationship now and we don’t want to have kids at this time.
This pill is giving me lots of problems. I love to have sex with my boyfriend to the point I though I was a nympho and now my sex drive is BAD.....We start very good, and after a few minutes.....I get very dry and that’s the end of it. I hate it. My BF is the hottest men in the world (to me), and we had very good sex, we were like rabbits lol, I always had one or two orgasms, always natural lubricated. Now I get dry and we have to stop, I started the pill a month ago, I take it everyday at the same time, my breast is itching (I guess its growing) as the rest of body too, back pain and very irritable. I'm ready to quite, I’m going to try the IUD or the ring, Today I have the worst migraine and yesterday I had very bad mood swings all day, for not reason, I was seating in a meeting and all the sudden I want it to scream and run and just go off at everybody but a seat there and talk my self out of doing it, by telling my self it was the BC and I need it to come down cuz its nobody’s fault but the stupid hormones, I cry this morning also for no reason. IM DONE WITH THIS PILL. I won’t even recommend to my enemy.(migraines, mood swings, vaginal dryness, low sex drive, back pain, nausea, hungry all the time, breast tenderness, and I guess with all that depression its just natural)

I'm a couple weeks into taking this Loestrin pill, after being on Seasonique for about 3 months, and I'm nervous about it. I'm in a monogamous relationship with my boyfriend, he uses condoms , and I'm on birth control , but I'm experiencing nausea in the morning, weird food cravings, unpleasant cramps, headaches, but still light blood spotting. I was absolutely terrified that I was pregnant, but after reading these other entries, it seems mildly common to 'be pregnant' for a month. To be safe I'm getting a pregnancy test, but I'm hoping that the chemicals in the Loestrin doesn't mess with the test. I don't think I dig these pills very much if this is going to happen every month.

I started taking Lo24 on the first day of my period on May 19th and have been bleeding ever since. I called the doctor and am waiting for a call back, but I'm seriously considering just finishing this pack and saying the heck with it. Anyone else have a constant flow when first starting the pills?

hi everyone, ive been on loestrin fe 24 for 4 months now. Just began my 5th, my first month i was nauseous every day all day, even though i took my pill with breakfast. on my second pack i switched to taking the pill at 10pm (right b4 bed) the nausea feeling went away. on my 3rd and 4th pack ive been feeling nothing but pure depression for no reason almost everyday. i have a beautiful relationship with an amazing man and all i can think of is that he doesn't love me....deep down i know my feelings of depression and fear of loosing my fiancee are not real/true. but although i try to control my depression it doesn't work. i cry for no reason, i don't want to work or do anything at all. ive been having trouble sleeping and this morning woke up with crazy anxiety. after the depression scare and anxiety i experienced today i will not be taking my little white pill today. ill be calling my doctor and ask him to out me on something else, this depression needs to stop. i cant live my life in fear of loosing someone. if any of you have had similar effects to this high depression of loestrin pls post about it.

I just filled a prescription for Loestrin 24 and wanted to know a little more about this pill since I have never taken birth control pills b4. I have not started to take the pill as of yet, after reading these blogs I am a little hesitant to start taking them seeing all the complains against this pill. can anyone recommend a good BCP, with little site effects.

I am sorry too hear that so many women are having bad side effects from taking Loestrin24Fe. My experience for the last four months has been just the opposite. I was having severe bleeding from fibroids every month during my cycle and it was causing me many problems including severe anemia. Since I began taking these pills I am very pleased. My cycles last two days and are very light compared to before. I have experienced some tenderness in the breast but that is all. Everything else is just great. I give all the glory to God because he gave my new doctor the knowledge to recommend this as an alternate to having surgery. No depression, nausea etc. Thank you Jesus!!!!!

I am on my first pack of Loestrin 24 Fe. I was doing okay except for constant breakthrough bleeding. This past weekend I was at a rehearsal dinner and wedding where I did a fair amount of drinking. On Monday I started feeling weird. By Monday night I was so weak and tired feeling that I couldn't lift my head. I've been laying on the couch for 24 hours and I still feel like the life has drained out of me. I"ve also had a stuffed nose and post-nasal drip since I started the pill. I went to the doctor this morning and they decided I needed iron pills to counteract the bleeding and an antihistamine and singlulair for the nasal symptoms. I'm now totally afraid of this pill!

i have had many of the symptoms explained on here. I am 20 and getting married in August so I figured I needed to get on these soon because we do not want to get pregnant. These have been horrible so far! I have had EXTREME moodiness, headache, no sex drive, nausea, horrible breast tenderness, vomiting, dizziness, weird vision problems- I couldn't see out of the corner of my eye, leg pain, hair on my nipples?which ive never had before.(anyone have this?) I am also always bloated and tired. This is my second pack and I just started my period on time yesterday so should I stick it out or change pills? anyone have any good info or opinions??? Thanks!

I went on this website and read all of these helpful comments before starting loestrin24fe. After reading them i have to admit i was nervous because of all of the negatives i read about. I am starting my 3rd pack of loestrin24fe and i have to say i have not experienced many side effects. Some minor nausea the first week, minimal spotting for 3-4 days week 3 of the 2nd pack and larger breasts. However,.....my worst symptom which is affecting my relationship is my loss of sex drive!!!! Since starting this pill, i have no desire to have sex and sexual intercourse is just painful and not pleasurable at all!! is anyone else feeling this way

Mircette always helped me with hormonal acne but recently i had breakthrough bleeding and my gyno switched me to loestirn 24. First month was fine and my recent breakthrough bleeding stopped. Second month i have severe headaches, nausea, cramps, and acne is worse than ever. No bloating, bleeding (period) or weight gain. My dermatologist saw me last week and said loestrin 24 is not one she would recommend to treat acne. She is putting me on YAZ which has ingredients to treat acne. I start in four days after the loestrin 24 is finished.

I'm 25 years old and have been using Loestrin for a year now. At first I really enjoyed the shorter periods, but a couple months came and I never got my period which put me into panic mode. Not pregnant thank god, but i miss the reassurance of getting my period. On Loestrin I've noticed severe headaches, nausea and thinning hair. Over the past year I've also gained 10lbs.....never had a weight problem, work out 3-4 times a week, eat healthy....Can't wait to switch birth controls....this one is causing more stress than good! I never thought I'd say this, but I miss my period!

Guys, as an explanation: Birth control pills work by using hormones to basically trick your body into thinking it is pregnant. When your body thinks it is pregnant, it stops releasing eggs. This "trick" prevents you from getting pregnant. The problem with this is.. your body thinks it is pregnant, and you can get some of the side effects.
I've tried a variety of pills over time. I think the different pills just affect each person differently. The doctors usually ask you to wait 3 months to see if the symptoms settle down. If they don't, or if it really bothers you too much to continue, call them up and tell them what's going on! They can switch you to another pill.
I had endometriosis and have to be on the pill. If I didn't have this condition I wouldn't be on any birth control... it has never agreed with me and I have had weight gain every time (more or less depending on which pill). The only one that worked for me for a while was nordette. That said, after waiting through weeks of nausea, I have adjusted to Loestrin, and like it. I am waiting to see if the weight gain tendency goes away, as well..

I am 37 years old and have been on Loestrin 24 for 3 months. I had some spotting right before my real period was supposed to start for the first two months, but fairly normal periods. I am now at the end of my third month and still waiting for my period. I freaked out as I am NEVER late and thought I was pregnant. I took a pregnancy test that was negative, but am still waiting for my period. After reading all these posts though, I think perhaps it's the pill and not me.
This month I had weird nausea and stomach issues. One other woman posted the same - gurgling and pain on the left side - me too! Even though I still feel sort of queasy, I am ravenous this week and craving the oddest foods.
I haven't had too many emotional side effects though. In fact, this one is probably the best for me thus far. My OB/GYN has been switching me all around to try to get the right balance. I'm less crazy on this one, but not having my period is too strange. Not sure what to do.

OK so, this is my first b.c. pill ever. I'm 20 years old. I've been taking Loestrin for about 7-8 months now. In the beginning everything went as normal as expected. Breakthrough bleeding frot he first month and half, then it seemed to be fine. (by the way trust me:...take the pill at the same time EVERYDAY it helps sooo much with bleeding) NOW, i barely get my period, and i have become so UNCONTROLLABLY emotional I can't help it. I think this pill is starting to have a serious effect on my mental health and I'm most likely going to switch. I think I'm even becoming depressed. I just don't know what pill is a better option!

i am on the first week of my second pack, after switching from orthotricyclinLo (which i loved, but my gyn suggested i switch so that she could give me samples while i was abroad). a few days before my first "period" (if you can really call it that...it was ridiculously light as far as periods go)at the end of my first pack i started getting bad stomach cramps. i attributed it to my body getting adjusted to foreign food, but the cramps, while less painful, are still rather persistent and range from my stomach to lower-left side. i have also been experiencing weird hunger, in which i have the desire to eat but everything seems unappetizing or makes me nauseous.

i started freaking out, thinking i had some strange std symptom, but i have no other symptoms and have been in a monogamous relationship for the past 9 months. and while i have yet to take a pregnancy test, i have been on birth control for the past 4 years (so my uterus is something of a barren wasteland) and i use condoms with my boyfriend. i was freaking out a bit with these side cramps, wondering whether or not i should make a doctor's appointment. when taking orthotricyclinLo i had little to no side effects, and i have never gotten menstrual cramps before, so i hadn't thought that this discomfort could be from my pills. i was thinking of making a doctor's appointment, but after reading this blog am reconsidering, and might just wait out another month or so.

has anyone else had a similar cramping/discomfort experience, and did it ever subside?

It looks like I am going to be on Loestrin 24 one more month or so and
after reading everybody's experience with Yaz I have decided not to take Yaz which is what they switched me to and I was supposed to start on Sunday because I did not want to be on Loestrin 24 ,but I am going to stay on it until I go see my Doctor because I do not want to talk to a nurse by phone . I just had this feeling like I should not take the Yaz ,like something is telling me no, and I have to go with my gut feeling and not take it, I hope that they are not going to be mad at me after I called and got them to take me off Loestrin 24 and then they gave me 3 packs of Yaz, I just cannot take it after reading about all of the side effects, I just could not get peace over it so no Yaz for me, and so I still have two packs of Loestrin 24 and a RX too, but I am going to ask to be put back on ortho tri cyclen because it is what I know and my periods were regular on it. This week is supposed to be my period, and my last Loestrin pill was Tuesday and I still have not started, I am having headaches, cramps, leg aches, and I am having some nausea every now and then and this is not how I want to feel.

My periods were regular on ortho tri cyclen but the reason my doc took me off of it was because the last week (which was before my period) I was having headaches and having nausea but I would rather feel like that a week then feel the way I feel. I would go ahead and call the nurse but I am afraid she would tell me to try the Yaz because I have not even tried it yet and because she just called me on Monday and my husband picked up the Yaz on Tuesday, I just do not want to seem crazy or something, my body is just really weird about having reactions. Good luck to anyone else and I will let you all know how it goes, please be praying that this month goes well on Loestrin 24!!!! I just hope my period next month is not hell to pay cause I have not had one this month. Good night!

i just finished my first pack and am on the 4th pill of the second pack and i haven't gotten a period. its just this brownish stuff which is gross haha. i don't know its kinda freaking me out but theres no reason i shouldn't be getting one except if the pills not letting me. before the pill it would come eh pretty regularly and would be REALLY heavy. and now i haven't gotten one soo i don't know. the only side effects I've had was for the first day i had HORRIBLE nausea/cramps. it felt like somebody was stabbing me or something and i couldnt move. for a while. and I've been craving anything sweet =P and my face is pretty much perfectly clear haha
if anyone has anything they can tell me about the no periods that would really be helpful

I've been on Loestrin24 for about a month. I have been having a lot of nausea, but that's about it. I've tried many other kinds of bc pills before, and they all have side effects. Everybody responds differently!! How many women have taken any birth control pill for the first 3 months with NO side effects??? If there is one out there PLEASE tell me what it is..............Deal with them or have your tubes tied or be celibate..Those are the other options...lol

I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for a couple of weeks now and just had a baby 7 weeks ago. The beginning of this week, I had severe nausea and was unable to eat without becoming nauseous. I believe it is due to the pill and not the food I am eating. Today, I have had breakthrough bleeding that is heavy like a period and severe stomach pains in my lower left abdomen. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow if they don't subside. It is really disturbing that before I had the baby, I had a yeast infection on my skin while on Desogen, so I quit birth control all together. I was hoping that after having the baby, taking a low dose birth control would be okay...but I am a bit worried about the stomach pains. I am not so worried about the break through bleeding because I know it is normal. I have also started to get acne on my upper arms and not my face...totally weird spot for me. I have had dry, itchy skin also... especially on my face. Please respond if you are having similar pains in your stomach.

wow i was thinking of starting this pill but due to all of the side effect posts...I may just stick to that stupid patch...even thought it isn't working for me i was miserable on it ....so i stopped it after i got numbness in my fingers and i was ok, then i put it back on for like a day recently and it made me get sick to my stomach for the 2nd time around..so no more patches..i really don't take pills at all...so many birth control so many side effects..not too sure what to get on now. The patch made me nausea, cramping backaches, mood swings.

Gosh, I too freaked out when I started spotting after being on it for 4 days. I am on my 15th pill, and I am still noticing some light browny bloody. I am hoping that it is almost over since I am starting to see it become mucus a bit.
I am always thinking of the worst thing and it drives me nut. I always wonder whether it is just the pill or could it be (cervical and ovarian cancer). I know I am crazy, but having 2 young kids and a husband make me worry a lot more. BTW: I am 28 years old. When I first started, I also felt nausea but never threw up. Another thing that is also bothering me is the fact that I feel bloated while I am spotting. My OB is telling me that it will get better after 2-3 months. I am just keeping my fingers crossed!!!!! Before, I started Loestrin24Fe, I was on the mini pill because I was breastfeeding. Now that I have stopped nursing, he gave me this pill to take so that I could have regular period. It is really bothering me to have this long spotting since I am sexually active and I don't want to have sex with the hubby while I am bleeding.... Good luck to you all. Ha! Ha!....the biggest side effect I got from taking Loestrin 24 is my baby girl!!! LOL! Cried for a solid two weeks at first, but now I wouldn't trade her for anything in this world!!!!!

well, i have two months taking the pill.... at first everything was great! but now... i cry of everything! this is so ridiculous! I was watching tv and I saw a home depot commercial and I started crying...:-S I fight everyday with my boyfriend and I am very vulnerable, i feel depress most of the times.

My periods are short, i don't get headaches nor stomach pains but i do get nausea....

I want to stop taking them right now but I had sex three days ago and I'm scared of having sperms alive on my inside and get pregnant ...

Oh yeah and i am gaining weight too!

My name is Jennifer and I am 27 years old, me and hubby have a 18 month old and have been married almost 4 years.
I started on Loestrin24fe on January 20 and I was put on them because my Doctor thought I needed a lower dose pill because I was on another pill and I was having headaches and feeling nausea a week before my periods, and so I was happy to start on loestrin24fe. I have noticed though I have been hungry a lot and think I have gained a little bit of weight maybe or maybe it is my imagination, I have had some cramps no bleeding though, and my face has started to break out some and for some reason sorry if tmi but I have a heavy discharge since I started on Loestrin, and my husband seems to think I am more moody and thinks maybe I should switch back to the pill I was on or be put on a different one. I think I am going to call my doc and ask for a change. Any Advice?

I have been on this birth control for five months and I have not had but a couple periods that have only lasted a couple hours each time...
I'm eighteen and have always had very long heavy periods until I started this pill. This worries my grandmother. She is afraid I may develop a clot which will kill me... Is it normal not to have a period for this long? How long can you go without one until it hurts you?
My acne went down since I started the pill.
I got a little nausea but only cause I took it on an empty stomach.
I have slept more since I started the pill too.
Depression seems to not be an issue to me.
I'm more irritable now though.

What can I say, Breakthrough Bleeding, Breakthrough Bleeding, Breakthrough Bleeding!!!!!!! I have been on this pill for about 3 weeks and have only experienced two side effects, a little nausea and as you can guess breakthrough bleeding. The doctor warned me that I may spot a little but this is ridiculous. I have ruined about 12 pairs of underwear and 2 sets of sheets. I am going to give it a little longer but if the bleeding doesn't stop soon I am going to switch pills.

I am 17 and have been on this pill since august...I had the nausea and thats about it....lately I've had my period for about 4-5 days EVERY OTHER week....and now I've gone 2 weeks...is it because my body is finally getting used to the pill? Am I more than likely going to go back to my regular 28 day cycle? My breast are starting to feel a little tender but not a lot..my doctor put me on this a month after my son was born

I started taking Loestrin this past October. Tomorrow i will be through with my third pack of pills and I haven't had any problems. I haven't missed any pills but I have taken them late a few times. Throughout these past 3 months the only side effects I've had are tender breasts and nausea during the first month. I haven't gained ANY weight... But I am a dancer, and I dance 5 days a week. I haven't had any breakthrough bleeding and I haven't missed any periods. I haven't had an increase in appetite except when I'm bout to start my period...then I start snacking a lot...especially late at night. I haven't had any problems with mood swings except when I'm on my period (which is normal for me). My periods only last 3 days now that I've been on the pill. I thought my periods were long b4 but after reading some of ya'lls posts, my five day periods weren't THAT bad...but i still like the 3 days better.
My last posting i said that i hadn't had an increase in my breast size, but my little sister (she's like 17) and one of my guy friends have informed me that my breast are bigger. And they don't know that I'm on birth control.
So far Loestrin has been working out great for me....I have no complaints!

I have been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for a year now and it has really worked well for me until this month. I had a break through bleeding for about 5 days, I never missed a pill and always take them at the same time each morning. Well it came time for me 2 start and I haven't started or spotted any at all. My breast are tender but thats it and I have only missed my period once while taking these pills. Could the break through cause me not to have my period? I am so stressed that I am pregnant!! If anyone has experienced this can you please let me know so I can have a little bit of relief...Thanks.

I have been on Loestrin 24 for about 8 months. I decided to stop taking it because I could not sleep well, I was not getting a period at all, and I was gaining a lot of weight for no reason. I stopped the pills three weeks ago and still no period. It has been 3 moths since I have had any bleeding and I am scared I could be pregnant. I have taken 3 pregnancy tests and all are negative. I have no symptoms of early pregnancy (i.e. sore breasts, nausea, etc.) I have had cramps that feel like I will start my period, but they have been on and off for 2 weeks and still no period! Has this happened to anyone that has gone off of Loestrin 24? If you did stop taking the pill how long did it take for you to get a period?

I just started my 4th pack a week ago. I missed my period and I have had severe nausea and I have been having panic attacks for almost 2 weeks. I thought it was stress, but nausea doesn't last this long and I haven't had a problem with anxiety before. I feel like I am going crazy - I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I have always had my period every month and I knew my cycle very well - it always started on a Tuesday. My mood swings and eating are out of control and my anxiety is keeping me from going in stores, restaurants and I have been having trouble going to work. I'm glad that I found this website and I can see that there are other people experiencing the same symptoms. I didn't know if I was pregnant or going through menopause. I have called my doctor and I am going to see him tomorrow...a shorter period is not worth all this hassle. I will say that when I was on the generic Loestrin Fe (not the 24 or the actual Loestrin) I did not have these issues.

I recently had a miscarriage and my doctor put me on Yaz BCP. I took Yaz for 1 month and had HORRIBLE side effects (nausea, weight gain, severe breast tenderness - worse than when i was pregnant.) So, during my next visit, he put me on Loestrin 24 FE because of the lower hormone dosage, and it's been two weeks into my first pack and i feel MUCH better - no symptoms AT ALL!

Okay after reading everyone's posts, I want to cry ha ha. I have just completed my first month of Loestrin24fe- I still haven't gotten my period- tomorrow will be a week. I feel like I have the symptoms- it's just not there. I expected this to happen since my body is confused with the change, however now I am nervous that I will not get it at all this cycle and it will just skip to the next. I was previously on Ortho Tri -cyclen Lo. I was nauseous a lot, the occasional migraine, my sex drive was not great, and I had some mood swing/depression problems. I went on Lexapro for that- decided to drop it since I became nauseous with that almost an hour after I took it each time and my sex drive became even worse. Doing that I thought my symptoms would go away. I still had nausea, still no sex drive, developed weird skin patch ( dermatologist said it was eczema, but very suspicious that it all happened around same time). Since my symptoms still existed I thought it was my birth control pill. That's why I switched to Loestrin....I'm still emotional, esp near my period, but I'm a girl, I expect that. What I am worried about, and from what I have read through these posts- is that the side effects you each describe are pretty much daily side effects for me and I might not catch it as something that I should be worried about. Is it also true also that this pill makes you gain more than others? On my previous pill, I didn't gain weight and I don't plan on exercising bc of this one. I know pills affect everyone differently, and I wonder if i go on another message board for another pill I will see the same responses.....I just want to hear from someone with a positive take on this pill. Telling me that you are fine, you just have to exercise and not drink, have no sex drive and deal with not getting your period sometimes, does not make me feel better.

Also, the past two times I have drank alcohol on this pill, I became extremely nauseous the next day. Normally this would be contributed to a hangover- but I didn't drink the amount that would cause one, compared to my past drinking experiences. The nausea sometimes results in vomit, otherwise it just lasts all day. I was wondering if anyone had this happen to them while they drank on the pill.

Wow, I'm glad there is a place where women can discuss their side effects with this pill. Only, I'm very shocked that so many women have been so sensitive to the hormones and other ingredients. I've been on Loestrin 24fe since April of 2006. My periods have gone from 3 days (the first month) to non existent (month 18). I've had a very light period for the past year, but this is the first month (18) that I have not had a period. I've had all the following symptoms: steady headaches, nausea, sore breasts, increased breast size greater than a cup (that's a positive) BUT that's about it. I've been able to keep the weight gain off by exercising 90 minutes a day, 5 days a week. I rarely drink & keep a strict diet. Yes, I've had the mood swings, but attributed them to a combination of factors: graduating college, moving to a new state where I knew no one, and transitioning from college life to business professional. I truly feel that exercise decreased my mood swings to something manageable & kept me from gaining any weight.

It does bother me that I have entirely missed my period this month, but the bigger issue is physicians who prescribe the pill are not telling me these things. I've read the instruction page from the manufacturer and the pharmacy, but not one mentioned a missing period until this site. Thinking that your preggers is some added stress on its own. Plus, while I hate my period, it is comforting to get it every month. Natures reminder that your not pregnant. Being nauseous and not having a period is not fun. I've thrown more money away at unnecessary pregnancy tests since going on Loestrin 24fe.

So for the most part, I recommend the pill to all of my friends. I do stress to them that they need to keep their exercise and diet habits in check, because it is very easy to gain weight on this pill. (A much needed thing for me; I've always been under weight! But not after Loestrin 24fe)

*As for women discussing lower sex drive; the reasoning behind this is because the progesterone attaches itself to your natural level of testosterone. Your testosterone levels having something to do with your sex drive. I'm not a doctor, I just read a lot.
