I am so glad I found this site. I thought I was crazy with the fact that I have put on weight, break out, and right before my period get so blah..I feel nausea than am starving, heart burn, tired and feel like S#$T before and after my period. The only good thing was I only had a period for 3 days but the other stuff is enough to make me stop it now. I have been on it for about 6 or 7 months now and have decided not to take it anymore. I think I will look into getting my tubes tied since I am not having much luck with pills...thanks all for making me realize it isn't me.

I began using the loestrin 24 almost 5 months ago. I was having severe cramping and heavy bleeding, which prompted my doctor to prescribe this pill. It was my first time in more than 20 years trying a bc pill and in the past I only used the pill about 2 months, because it caused severe bleeding then. When I began Loestrin 24 fe, I was not sexually active, and only began a sexual relationship within the last 2 months. My boyfriend, uses a condom in addition to the bc I use. Recently, we talked about trying to conceive. He stopped using a condom close to a month ago. I had noticed nausea from time to time, but didn't really think about side effects of the pill. The other day, after getting nauseated again, it occurred to me I might be pregnant. I have spent the last 2 days trying to figure out if that might be the case. I was loving the Loestrin, my last couple of months have been virtually pain free. However, after reading the signs of pregnancy and side effects of Loestrin, I am noticing they are very similar. I have been experiencing headaches for about 2 weeks now, non stop, nausea, abdominal cramping (although nothing compared to my menstrual cramps), fatigue, depression, increased appetite and recently frequent peeing. The only side I haven't experienced that many women above describe is breast tenderness. The tenderness, however, was something I'd experience before BC. I'm getting off because I decided to conceive, but I was very disappointed with the false signs of pregnancy. I don't think I'd like to go through that on a regular basis.

I am 20 years old.
I was put on Loestrin when I was 17 to prevent pregnancy. I had very light periods that lasted a day maybe every month. Until I completely stopped having a period altogether for about 8 months while being on it. I enjoyed it, but started to get a little concerned so I went to my gyno and they gave me a pregnancy test (standard procedure) which was negative (I knew my body and knew I wasn't pregnant and it was just the pill that made me not have a period but still wanted to check).
I was 18 at the time and they switched me to Yasmin. I started having a normal period again. But I had awful side effects with Yasmin..HORRIBLE depression and mood swings....soooo bad that I went back to the gyno and switched to Yaz...I don't remember much about Yaz but I didn't take it very long because I wanted to be back on Loestrin again.
My script ran out when I was 19, and I never went back to get another script...to give my body a break from BC.
I just turned 20 and recently went to the gyno and asked to be put back on Loestrin again. I have been on it for three weeks so far. I've have some mood swings and slight depression. I also have had some very light spotting, nausea/heartburn/acid reflux this time around....which i don't recall having when i was on it before... but i'm sure my body is just getting re-adjusted and I plan on waiting it out, considering I had a positive experience with it before (minus the nonexistent periods..which wasn't even a problem to me)
I also had mild acne before BC, but when I take Loestrin it completely clears up (Which is a huuuuuuge plus for me..obviously.) When I wasn't taking BC for a year, my acne came back! It was awful! (to me at least) Big difference! But it has once again diminished once I started taking Loestrin again.
I have tried Loestrin, Yasmin, and Yaz..and will swear by Loestrin over the other two....especially Yasmin (that was awful). For those of you who have only tried one brand of BC and hated it.. i suggest you switch to another one before completely saying goodbye to BC pills forever. Thankfully I did switch and try other brands..because I now know that Loestrin is right for me. But everyone is different. Good luck :)

i went and got a 3 month supply of Loestrin 24 Fe from my doctor about a year ago and have attempted to take it twice before, but i would quit taking it before it had even been a month the first 2 times because i would get my period a couple weeks early and it would be super heavy and i would get horrible cramps, and my period is usually light and i NEVER get cramps and i just didn't want to deal with it! So I finally sucked it up and took it for the third time. i just completed the pack and today i took my first sugar pill, but no period yet... i'm a little worried, but i'm going to the gyno next week to ask her about it. but yeah, lots and LOTS of nausea for me. also my breasts got bigger. i wear a DD cup as it is, and even that's getting small on me now, and i don't know what to do about it = / but the main thing that has been affecting me is i have been just really lethargic since i have been taking it. i've just been really lazy and i've definitely gained weight. but that may be just from not going to the gym and opting to stay at home and eat instead. i'm not really sure? but yes, two biggest things have been nausea, and a slight depression/laziness. i'm hoping it will go away by 3 months, or maybe i will switch to something else before then. any suggestions of what to take would be great. and also does anyone know if you can have sex while on the brown pills, even if you don't get your period?

I've been sitting here for at least an hour reading the different blogs regarding the different side effects of the Loestrin24 pill. I am so disappointed with this brand. The deceit about having a shorter lighter period is the biggest let down. I spot pretty regularly now and before the supposed start date of my 'supposed to be' period. I am also not thrilled about the acne. I worked very hard and paid quite a bit to clear my face of all the left over debris that teen acne left me with. I switched from OrthoTri Cyclen Lo due to cost. I have now concluded that 'Cheaper Is Not Always Better'. My sanity vs. Loestrin24 t take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.
There are other common side affects as well such as: nausea, moodiness, lack of sex drive, etc. Just needed to vent my two biggest complaints.

I am 17 years old, about to be 18, my fiance is my first and only sexual partner, and I am beginning to HATE loestrin. I have been on the pills for approximately a month and a week. When I first started them I would get extremely hungry and the more I ate, the hungrier I got. It was like a bad case of the munchies, not that I've ever smoked pot. But I was seriously eating anything and everything, even foods I didn't like. My stomach felt a little weird for the first couple days, but nothing too bad. Then I started taking the brown pills, and all hell broke loose. There were the cramps. Horrible, HORRIBLE, cramps, which I am still having 3 days after going back on the active pills. Cramps all through my lower abdomen and stomach, and the feeling that at any given moment my right ovary might drop out (which might actually provide some relief) I actually doubled over crying with the pain in the shower yesterday, and would have fallen and surely hurt myself if my fiance had not been in the shower with me and caught me before I hit the ground. Intense hunger. Followed by bought of nausea, that make me want to puke, but I can't. I am very, very, sensitive to smells. Perfumes, food, cologne, things that I formally found the smell appealing, now disgust me. My lower back, is KILLING me! I get dizzy spells, and lightheadedness frequently, and feel like I may black out. Most of the time I can get myself to a spot where I can sit down and let my body sort things out before I actually black out, but I'm waiting for the day I can't. I have been getting terrible, awful headaches that stay with me through most of the day. Sleeplessness. I had my "period" 3-4 days early, if you can call it a period. It was nothing more than a day and a half of light pink spotting and brown discharge that only showed up when I wiped, I didn't even need a pad. Now, we did start having unprotected sex (with the exception of the bc) at 5 or 6 days instead of 7, and I forgot to take my pills until 9-12 hours after I was supposed to a couple of times. Couple that with the lack of a normal period and all the side effects that could also be the side effects of early pregnancy, and I'm pretty worried. I would love to be a parent, as would my fiance, but I would have liked to have graduated high school first. If these symptoms turn out to be just the pill *** with my body, I would rather just take my chances either with a condom or no protection at all. Sometime in the next week or two I will probably be taking a pregnancy test as I am afraid to wait for my next period and continue the pills because if I am pregnant I know that it can cause damage to the fetus. If anyone has wound up pregnant while on loestrin fe please email me and let me know how you found out, and how things turned out. My email address is ****** Thank you so much for any help you can give a scared teen.

I'm 20. This is my first time on bc. I've been on this pill for a month now and my fiance pointed out a lot of changes in me. The ones i have noticed is my sex drive is completely gone! Which worried me deeply since i started to think that i was falling out of love with my fiance. I feel depressed for no reason. Breast tenderness; sore to the touch! And Nausea, to the point where i lose my appetite. My fiance has noticed: Massive mood swings. (i get angry or cry on the spot for no reason), Depression, and headaches.
I haven't gotten that break through bleeding everyone talks about. And my acne and weight is fine. I'm just not sure if my body is reacting this way because this is my first time on bc, or because of the pill itself. All I know is that i am miserable.

I've been on Losetrin 24 Fe for about a month and a week.
I've noticed some irritability, nausea, shortness of breath, bloating, and increase in acne. I had sex with my boyfriend after taking the pill for a little over two weeks, he didn't ejaculate inside of me, but I missed my period when it was supposed to come, and instead I just had about two days of really light spotting. I feel bloated constantly and get a little nauseous after eating. I've also had a serious lack of energy. No weight gain, or anything else. Bu the missed period thing freaks me out, and the ache just stresses me out more.

I'm no stranger to BCPs but Loestrin 24 has me quasi-suicidal. Yes, I've actually had thoughts of jumping out the window - I would never do it, but it scared the bejeebus out of me to actually have those thoughts.
I have two young kids and just went back on BCP's after finishing breast feeding my youngest. I have extremely heavy and awful periods so I was looking for a way to manage that. In the past I'd had only good experiences w/ BCPs so I didn't think twice about going back on them.
It's been three months since I started Loestrin and I've suffered from extreme fatigue, crazy mood swings, mental fogginess, forgetfulness, spotting (the least of my concerns), double vision, dry eyes, nausea, insomnia, no sex-drive, menstrual migraines that last up to 72 hours and lots of other fun stuff. Someone below mentioned they thought they had a brain tumor and I chuckled because I was pretty sure I had one too!
I forgot one measly pill this month and boy, did I pay for it.
Loestrin leaves me barely capable to take care of my children because of my fatigue and mental fogginess (it's the only way I can describe what my brain feels like on this drug) PLUS they have to deal w/ a very curt, impatient, unhappy and mean mommy - something I'm normally most definitely not!
When merging on the highway I ALWAYS do shoulder checks to make sure no one is in the way, but the other day I almost got in a wreck because even though I checked, I didn't see a car coming up behind me! I know this was because of my vision changes thanks to Loestrin.
I called my ob today for a new script. She gave me some generic. I hope to Zeus it's better than this stuff.
I think I'm more annoyed because I was never sensitive to meds before. I don't know if it's age (36), having had kids or what, but my body definitely doesn't handle the same as it used to. : (

after reading all of these posts it has made me feel ten times better. I have also had almost every symptom listed. I started taking this pill four months ago for the first time and for almost the entire first month I had spotting then when it was time for me to get my period it never came at all, although I did have cramping throughout. I have never been a very emotional person and since being on this pill I have cried almost every day and has had almost no patience for anything. Recently I have started having terrible nausea if I drink any alcohol at all. I have also had bloating and upper abdominal pain. My boyfriend has noticed a complete change in my personality since I have been on this pill. Although he is completely supportive and knows that it is just all the hormones I have realized that it is not worth feeling like this and I am going to have to change pills. I am constantly paranoid that I am pregnant because I never get my period and if I do it is so light I forget I even have it. If anyone has switched and has any recommendations for a better method please let me know.

I've been on Loestrin 24Fe for two months now and I DO LIKE it. I was taking Nuvaring before and in no way did I like it...I have had nausea and have a lot of cravings (lots of pregnant like symptoms, Im 100% sure Im not pregnant). I really like that I have no mood swings, I totally did with Nuvaring, I would snap out of nowhere. My sex drive is amazing! I'm really happy about that. I do get fatigue but I can keep clear headed and if I want to do something Ill do it. I do get heartburn, really bad heartburn but I do eat a lot of chili and hot/salsa food but it goes away with Tums. Oh has anyone been peeing A LOT?? I pee so much constantly and I checked for an infection and didn't have one so the pill might be causing it...also my sister is taking this pill and I asked how she liked it...she said that for the first two months she had mood swings but that after the third month it all went away and she said she liked it...(so she had mood swings for the first two months and I didn't) I seriously do not recommend NuvaRing at all...but so far I would recommend Loestrin 24Fe.

I'm 23 and more than halfway through my first month on Loestrin. It's been absolutely horrible. I have terrible insomnia, nausea, acne, food tastes different, and as a result I have no desire to eat. I have been extremely moody, depressed, and dizzy. My sex drive has actually decreased, and I am NOT happy about that. My period lasted 10 DAYS (as opposed to the usual 5), and I had worse cramping this time around than when I was not on the pill. I also bled very heavily for the duration. I took Ortho a couple years back and had no side effects other than mild headaches the first month. I do not even want to wait to see if Loestrin levels out. I'm terrified to stay on it.

I started Loestrin 24 Fe about 6 months ago. The first month was pretty rough. I was nauseous all the time, had headaches and even had cramping. My biggest concern however were my major mood swings. I consider myself to be a pretty easy going person and when I started taking Loestrin I became angry and irritable pretty much all day. My boyfriend was literally begging me to switch birth controls. Well, I decided to duke it out and try it out for at least 3 months to see how things would go. My moods swings went away by the second cycle, the nausea stopped, and the cramping only occurred during my periods. I believe my breast size increased a bit as well. Unfortunately Loestrin did absolutely nothing for my acne. Hope this helped! And if anybody knows of another low dose birth control that can help me with my acne I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hi-First, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has posted here. I appreciate your openness. I'm almost 38, have 3 little girls & a boy in heaven, and am almost done with my 3rd month with Loestrin. I almost quit during the 2nd month because of how it changed my life, but my doctor encouraged me to just stick it out for 3 whole months before deciding, and things should level off. So far, she's pretty right. I felt like I was pregnant basically. I was totally green both months but did not get sick. I was totally fatigued, and it was hard to function daily, especially with homeschooling 3 children. And, the biggest symptom is that it ERADICATED COMPLETELY, my sex drive! That was a big part of my husband's and my relationship and it was gone the day after my first pill. We were devastated. It has put a huge strain on our marriage. But, when I started this 3rd pack, I had my energy back and am no longer tired. I have no nausea at all. And, I can feel myself slowly inching toward wanting to have sex again. Yea! So, we'll see.:-) I had no other symptoms like spotting, headaches, or night sweats, Praise God. I haven't been on birth control pills since 1995, so, I feel a little out of the loop with all these new ones. But, so far, Loestrin is doing ok.-Melissa

I'm 25, almost 26, and have been on Loestrin 24 Fe since August of 2008. I really did not notice any side effects other than lighter periods for the first few months. I think I had a little bit of nausea the first few days, but figured if I ate before taking it (I take my pill in the morning) it didn't upset my stomach. I had a very heavy cycle in February and have not had one since. I have taken several pregnancy tests and called my Dr. and she said it was normal and I wouldn't have that many cycles. Well the last 2 months I have had the most severe mood swings. My husband is about to go nuts, poor guy. I started working out again to see if that would help, and it has for the most part, but I still get very defensive about the littlest things. I'm thinking of trying something different, but am going to try it for a bit more and see if exercise helps.

I have been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for about 2 in a half months. I had started a period in the middle of my first set and they said that it would just take time..well i haven't had a period since. I have had UTI and pregnancy test and they were both negative. The doctors thought i was crazy and I felt helpless and thought it was because i hadn't taken them regularly enough. My symps were nausea/vomiting, yeast infection,sore/tender boobs, dry skin, cold sores, chapped lips, excess sweating (so much to where id wake up with wet hair), dizziness, rash, hair loss, depression, joint pain, horrible abdominal pain(like bad cramps),back pain, no appetite which i lost about 10 pounds in 2 weeks, headaches, and i hadn't had a period in two months. All these symptoms happened in about a two week span. I was freaking out about it because the doctors told me it was just stress but i was sure that something was wrong..i was talking to my mom because i was really scared and upset & she asked what birth control i was on and i told her. She looked at the package and saw it was Loestrin -->FE<--(iron)..no one in my family can take iron and it makes them very very sick. Im going to the doctor tom again to tell them that and im almost positive that this is the reason. I will let you know when i find out.

This is my third week on Loestrin 24 Fe and it may be my last. For the past 5 days i have had the worst fatigue of my life. I cannot focus on anything, I'm just always in a daze and feel the need to sleep every free minute . Also, spotting started this week and may be turning into my period? There has been nausea also. And on top of all that my mood is uncontrollable, i balled, not cried, myself to sleep two days ago. What is going on, Is all this normal and will it go away if i stick with it?

I started this week the third pack of Loestrin24fe and NOW I am happy with it. I took it after nuvaring which I did not tolerate anymore at all. I took it after the birth of my daughter and the first time was good, I then had 6 month with no bc at all and went back on nuvaring. I had to stop after 3 month, I could not take the side effects anymore (terrible acne -worse than no bc, much worse, fatigue, etc).
The first month was pretty bad but better than nuvaring, so I sticked to it. My gyno told me it would take 3 month to see the effects of the pill on my acne and I could have spotting.
Here is the long list of side effects I had the first month (random order): bloating, mood swings, body aches, extreme fatigue, nighmares, weight gain (8 pounds at least) which I never had in the past with my previous bc, sensitive breast (gained a size as well, I don't really need it though), tummy irritation, nausea, painful sex and itch/pain (like I'm going to have a vaginal infection but I don't. I've had this on my other bc pill when I was younger) and finally the spotting (20-22 days on 28!! but no period that first month).
As soon as I started the second pack the spotting disappeared totally, my skin started to look a lot better (no more nasty painful spots). I had a 2 days period (I used to have a 5-7 days period), almost no cramps during my period, breast tenderness decreased, no more mood swings etc...
What is still here though: WEIGHT (I'm navigating between 8 pounds and 6 pounds weight gain since I started loestrin24fe), fatigue (less than first month), itch/pain like vaginal infection (even if the feeling of it is much less than the first month).
I like the 2 days period and no painful acne anymore. That is a real benefit for me after months of pain and treatments which brought no result. I think it might continue to get better month after month. As my gyno told me, I have to be patient to see the full result of the pill.
All in all, I'm more and more happy with this pill.

I went absolutely insane on this pill after 10 weeks. I'm a pretty confident person and I had NIGHTMARE anxiety attacks and nausea completely out of nowhere. Lost weight, and was just generally shaking all the time. This would lead to crying and feeling completely out of control and like I wanted to jump off my balcony. I went on this pill to relieve horrible cramps associated with my period but I would seriously rather have horrendous cramps two days out of the month than feel like I am losing my mind.
If you are at all sensitive to hormones (and isn't that most of us?) PLEASE do not take this pill.

I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for a year and a half. When I first started out I had terrible head aches and severe nausea. But I had regular periods always getting them on a Friday and ending on a Sunday. Never missed a period or had any spotting. The last few months I have struggled to get out of bed every day. Going to work is a chore. I can't stay up past 8:00 p.m. I feel very fatigued. I have had a few episodes where I am driving in my car and suddenly every thing goes blurry, I get very hot, dizzy, confused, can't remember where i'm at or where I'm going, I feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest. I didn't know what was wrong with me I thought I was having a heart attack I never thought it could be from the birth control. I also can't stop eating. I am never full. I haven't gained any wait but lately my stomach is so bloated. I get very shaky when I haven't eaten. I scheduled a doctors appointment because I thought i had a thyroid problem or diabetes but after reading all of these comments I now think my health problems have a lot to do with the loestrin . If my doctor doesn't find anything wrong with me than I am going to stop using loestrin. I can't live like this anymore. It is affecting my relationship and quality of life. Whats the purpose of being on birth control to have sex if you never feel well enough to do anything ...

I am currently on my 2nd pill pack of Loestrin 24. Prior to that, I was taking Yasmin, which was causing yeast infections and nausea. My doctor switched me to Loestrin, thinking the lower dose of estrogen would help with the nausea. The first month of being on Loestrin was okay, although I spotted for about 5 days halfway through the pill pack. I had a little bit of nausea, and my first period was EXTREMELY light, barely a period at all. I started taking my pills again on Sunday, and Monday morning I felt extremely nauseous, so much that it left me in bed all morning. All week I felt waves of nausea, no vomiting though. Then yesterday was day 5 of the pill, and I felt the worst case of nausea ever. The only thing I can attribute all of this nausea to is the pill. I don't know what to do....I don't feel myself on this pill and I'm sick of feeling sick.....I would rather have cramping and period for a few days than feel nauseous every month.

I've played the birth control pill game and tried many different bc pills in my younger days. I tried Nordette, Ortho-cyclen, Ortho-tri-cylcen and Mircette. None of them worked well with me so I stopped taking bc pills all together.
It's been almost 10 yrs since I've taken bc pills and I started taking Loestrin 24 Fe about 2 years ago to regulate my period and for my adult acne issues. I have been on it ever since. After the first pack, I noticed my breast grew bigger (which is a plus for me). After the second pack, my skin cleared dramatically and after the third pack my periods became lighter and only lasted 3 days. I do experience PMS a week before my period but nothing I can't handle and it's not severe.
I have NOT experienced any bad mood swings, nausea or headaches. This bc pill is not for everybody BUT it has worked great for me and a few of my girlfriends are on it as well and have nothing but positive feedback to give.
I've been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for almost 2 yrs and since then, my boobs are bigger, my skin is clear and my periods are lighter and shorter. Overall, I give Loestrin 2 thumbs up!

I have been on Loestrin 24 fe for the past 4 years. Everything was fine the first year to my knowledge. Now that I have gotten older and started noticing things more recently I have become worried about being on the pill. I haven't had a period in 3-4 years and when some might say its a blessing I am starting to get worried about it. In the last 4 years I have gained and lost weight dramatically but now it I haven't been able to lose any weight started working out and eating less but going no where. Gained 15 lbs in 3 months. My hair is starting to fall out more than usual. I have been getting really nausea lately feeling like I am going to throw up, my vision is becoming worse but went to the eye doctor and my prescription is the same. My anxiety is getting worse and had to be but on Zantax to calm me. I had to take a pregnancy test the other to make sure i wasn't pregnant because of the most recent symptoms. I going to go off the bill tomorrow to see if a difference is made of not being on it.

I'm almost 45 and have been on Loestrin FE 24 a couple years. My gyn put me on BC pills because I was having crazy, constant bleeding. The Loestrin took care of that -- now I actually have no periods at all. I take it at night and have never experienced nausea on it, which is so nice. Other BC pills I've taken made me quite sick. Also, I didn't gain weight from Loestrin. So I'm happy with it.

I just started Loestrin24Fe about 5 days ago. Dr put me on it to control the heavy bleeding and possibly decrease my fibroid. My periods have always been only 2- 3 days my whole life just real heavy for those days. I already have had hair loss prior to taking htese pills and now that I read that hair loss is a side affect, Im real concerned. But I have noticed massive nausea, stomach cramps and yeast infection in the first 5 days. I haven't been sexually active in about 3 months so I had no clue what was causing this until I read all these feedbacks. Thank you so much for posting you experience. I will stop the pills today.

I know what you are going through. It is so frustrating to be on a birth control pill that causes annoying physical and emotional side effects. I would say to take a month off the birth control and see if anything changes. Try not to alter your eating or exercising habits too much because that will change the results that you can notice.
If you decide to stay on Loestrin 24, I'd suggest to keep a diary for a few months. Mark down symptoms on specific days etc. to later observe any possible trends that might be related to hormone levels based on the point in time of your cycle.
Also, Nuvaring is very new and new drugs should always be used with extreme caution. What I'm trying to say is, the full range of side effects (especially the long-term ones) have not been studied yet. It is impossible to know what it may cause down the line. Personally, I don't like the idea of a foreign object sitting inside of my vagina for three weeks out of each month.
I know only one person who uses Nuvaring and she has not had any issues with it. I guess it is just important not to forget that it is in there and must be removed on a specific date. Below I have inserted the COMMON risks/side effects associated with using Nuvaring (from the Nuvaring website):
The common side effects reported by NuvaRing® users are:
Vaginal infections and irritation
Vaginal secretion
Headache
Weight gain
Nausea
I am prone to urinary tract infections and vaginal infections so this is something I would never use. If you do not have a history of those types of things, maybe it would be something worth trying. Personally, I just feel as though putting something like that inside of your vagina for three weeks continuously while being sexually active can introduce a great deal of infectious bacteria into that area.
I hope that my opinion was at least somewhat helpful. If you are still unsure of what steps to take with birth control...I would suggest making an appointment to sit down with your gynecologist to discuss all of your options. They usually have a strong grasp on what is the best for each individual patient based on history, age, current health etc. etc. because of experience with many other patients on the same medications and the imense amount of research that physicians obtain on a regular basis.
Good luck!

I'm entering into my third pack of Loestrin 24 Fe. I had an IUD for 5 years, was to have it replaced on 12/29/08 but could not take the extreme pain when inserting so didn't do it. Don't know why it was so unbearably painful this time vs. 5 years ago. Anyway, doctor gave me 6 free samples of Loestrin 24 Fe. At first I had no problem, no need to use back up method because medicine from IUD was still in my system so transition was a breeze. First month on Loestrin, I bled for 2 days but so light that it wasn't even noticeable, second month didn't bleed at all, now I'm half way through my third pack. The mood swings are unbearable. I am now suffering from diarrhea and stomach cramps that are so painful I find myself in a ball on the bathroom floor moaning in pain as well as nausea. Although the lack of period was nice the strain of wondering if I'm pregnant is just too stressful.
I personally don't recommend Loestrin 24 to anyone unless of course you like monthly guessing of whether or not your pregnant, sever mood swings, diarrhea and stomach cramps so painful you would give your left arm for it to go away.
Since I don't want to get pregnant nor risk any chances of getting pregnant, I am suffering through this last pack and will go on another type of birth control. I plan on having my tubes tied this summer.
I don't recommend this pill to anyone. One more side effect, tender breasts so severe that it hurts to wear a bra and not wear a bra, I can't win.
For those skeptics, no I'm not pregnant and no I don't have a stomach bug, it is all from this pill.

I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for almost 8 months now. After a 2 yr battle with a generic version of seasonale (which just stopped working and i bled for 2 months and then had NO bleeding on the third, no period either!) I completely went off bc for 3 months and experienced withdrawal symptoms that were horrible. So my doctor put me on Loestrin and the first month was great. I had a period that last 1 hr, and the pharmacist said "count it as a blessing." After that I had nausea, headaches (have one right now), bloating, no appetite, then all of a sudden a huge appetite!, yeast infections (which I don't get normally), discharge (a lot), abdominal pains, and its very hard to see out of my contacts so I opt for my glasses... Its also expensive. I am thinking about switching, again, until I find the right one for my body. This pill makes me think I'm pregnant. Moodiness, sore breast, nausea...and I know for a fact I'm not! I haven't had acne problems but I owe that all to drinking a lot of water, keeping hydrated. I can't get off of bc because those issues are worse than both bc I've had! Anyone know of a great pill they've experienced?

I started taking loestrin about 6-10 weeks ago and I have felt horrible. I have gained 10 lbs, my boobs are a size larger, I have had yeast infections, my moods have been crazy, headaches, nausea, spot bleeding and chest pain. I’ve taken birth control since I was 14 and have never experienced any side effects. My periods have only lasted a day and I’m worried sick about being pregnant. I have always taken my pill at the same time and ALWAYS used a condom. I stopped using the pill about a week ago and instantly my mood has changed. I’m still worried about my period and pregnancy.
Has any gone though this?
How long till you go back to normal cycles?
Does anyone have any advice?

This is my 5th month on Loestrin24 Fe and I am going to stop taking it after this month. I have always been a happy, healthy, normal person and ever since being on this pill I have had breakthrough bleeding 3 out of 4 weeks of the month, HORRIBLE anxiety, mood swings, weight gain, and nausea. I have never ever had any of these problems before with any other birth control. My doctor said to wait through the initial 3 months where the side effects are the worst and that they would pass, but it I don't see that happening. They have not decreased and I don't have the drive to continue through these awful side effects. I do not recommend this pill to anyone.

I had my yearly OB appt. earlier this month. I had been on the pill before. She gave me free samples of Loestrin24. HORRIBLE! I never had any negative side effects with bc pill. With this one my sex drive is GONE. My mood swings are terrible. My appetite is gone because of my nausea and intestinal woes. Not only that I am having acne on my face, chest and back. I am 25 years old and I haven't gotten this type of acne in years. Ridiculous. I DO NOT recommend this pill to ANYONE!

I just started my second pack of Loestrin 24 Fe two days ago. I have not had any nausea, weight gain, unusual acne, loss of libido, or crazy mood swings. I have, however, had non-stop breakthrough bleeding. In the past month, there has only been one day where I was not bleeding. I take it at the same time every morning and have not missed a day. I'm really trying to be patient and give it a couple more months...but it has gotten very annoying. I got on the pill because I recently decided to become sexually active. Having my period 24/7, though, has kept me from actually wanting to start. I was on Ortho (the original) back in high school for regularity, and it made me gain 15 pounds and have intense mood swings. Beyond the btb, I love the lack of weird side effects....has anybody made it past the first 3 months to find more regularity with no side effects?

I have been on every birth control imaginable since I was 12 years old (extremely heavy periods/ hospitalized 3 times for cramps...excellent way to view womanhood!) Every single birth control I've been on I've had side effects such as: severe mood swings (crying over nothing, starting arguments for little things, weight gain/loss (which I don’t mind), headaches, nausea, anxiety....etc. After telling my OBGYN about my symptoms I was having while on Seasonal, she tried to diagnose me with bipolar disorder...long story. One of the worst symptoms I've ever had out of all of these was the loss of sex drive. I did not become sexually active until I was 18 (I'm 20 now), my boyfriend of a year now constantly reminds me of my lack of sex drive. I was on the ring (been on it for a year) when we first started dating, I slowly started losing my sex drive (nothing serious, more foreplay) and I started having weird mood swings. We fought a little not really noticing my fun outgoing spirit slowly decreasing. I spoke to my doctor who suggested yaz…bad idea. I gained so much weight and I started getting acne! So I switched to loestrin which I started taking in November last year. At first I liked it, I didn’t have a period until last month, which only lasted a day (no blood just the brown discharge). I don’t mind not having a period, while I was on the seasonal I didn’t have a period which is fine. I do mind the severe mood swings I have acquired; I’ll have a good day but if one thing happens that in the least bit upsets me I’ll go into full aggression…which isn’t good because I work with people on a daily basis. I had a full week of depression. I did not want to converse with anybody I just stayed in my room after getting off work and cried. I started getting acne on my face and my back. I’ve gained almost 15 pounds (I’m 5’4”; I’m not too thrilled about being short and chunky). The worst is my relationship is on the rocks. My boyfriend tries to understand what’s going on, but it’s hard for him. I used to be incredibly “active” with him, now if we ever have sex and I get distracted by a dust particle I lose all interest and dry up. I tried talking to my OBGYN but she insisted it wasn’t birth control. I asked her if the IUD would be a good option, but she won’t give it to me because I haven’t had kids yet… so at this point I’m thinking about changing doctors and stop taking birth control all together… I’d rather not take anything and use other methods of birth control than suffer like I have been.

I switched from Yaz, which caused extreme dizziness and leg cramps at night to Loestrin 24 Fe and I dislike this even more. I have SEVERE mood swings, within minutes of each other sometimes. I can't concentrate, and the mood swings can often result in anger and aggression. I didn't experience these extreme effects until a week into my second pack. Also have lower back pain since starting, swollen calfs and sometimes ankles...none of which existed prior to taking Loestrin. I have sudden bouts of nausea, the effects were so dramatic that at first I thought I was pregnant! I would NOT recommend this pill.

I am on my second month of this pill, and just started my period, though I shouldn't since I am on the white pills.
The first month, I got my period about 3 times, and also spotting between. I was very, VERY moody and depressed, and ended up breaking up with my boyfriend because of this.
Now my emotional state seems a little more stable, but I am experiencing tons of physical side affects. Severe nausea (though perhaps this could be helped if I switch to taking the pill at night-- right now I take it at about 8 every morning), dizziness, SEVERE fatigue (all I want to do is sleep!), weakness, headaches, etc.
I keep thinking I should stick with it and see if I adjust and things get better, but as of right now I can't even function in everyday life because of this pill.

Does anyone taking Loestrin 24 Fe have lower back pain. I have a feeling in my lower back area that I need to be very careful how I move as to not move the "wrong' way and my right hip hurts. I had the Mirena and with complications the Dr. put me on this pill for 3 months to try solve my bleeding problems with the Mirena. I started having back pain. i thought it was the Mirena. I have been off the pill for a month and I decided to have the Mirena removed last week. He started me back on the pill and i am having back pain again along with nausea and headaches. My back actually "caught" on me this morning and took me 2 hours to stand again. Thank God I was at home. I call the GYN and they say the back pain is not related to female problems. I originally went to my Primary doctor with the back problem and he did a CT scan and x-ray- all came back good. My back only seems to hurt when my stomach is cramping. Can't get my GYN to understand. anyone else having these back problems? ******

I'm 22 and I've been on Loestrin 24 for about a year now. When I first started taking it, I had severe mood swings and I cried over every stupid little thing for about 3 weeks. I even snapped at one of my co workers and I've never done that in my life. The littlest things were making me cry! It was ridiculous. But my periods were better after a few months, I have noticed some spotting every now and then. But I never gained any weight, and I have no acne. When I get my period and I'm on the brown pills, I sometimes get really bad headaches. It was only when my doctor told me to take them at night that my nausea finally stopped. I didn't know taking them in the middle of the day could make a person so nauseous like I was. It was bad. I couldn't eat anything because everything was making me sick. But thats all gone now. One thing I can't figure out, is that every once in a blue moon I forget one pill. They say you're supposed to take both of them no matter what, but when I take them so close together like that, I wake up in the middle of the night throwing up. Not sure what I should really do about that...

I have had a great experience with Loestrin 24. I have shorter and lighter periods. I never have any PMS syms. and my period last about 1 day. I know these pills don't work for everyone, but Loestrin 24 is worth a try because the benefits are fabulous. I never knew my period could be so light and painless. I take mine at night to avoid the nausea. I have tried many different pills and this one has had the least side effects for me. Good luck finding the right BC.

I was on Loestrin Fe 24 for 9 months, and after already two months I had horrible mood swings, loss of appetite, loss of weight (15lb), weakness, tiredness, nausea, sex drive decreased, and worse of all now I have a digestion problem. Whenever I eat carbohydrates I feel full quickly, bloated and constant discomfort. I am off the pills fnow or half a year and the digestion problem did not disappear yet, it makes me miserable. I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem and a potential solution...

I am so happy I googled this! I am one of those people that just takes the pill and does very little research. I was on yaz and told my doc that I wanted something cheaper since we don't have insurance at the moment. She prescribed me Loestrin 24 fe and when I went to get three months it was no cheaper. Not only that, I am so depressed!!! It's Christmas and I should be happy. I am moody, miserable about everything. I try to snap out of it with my boys, but I just get overwhelmed. I know my life was hectic before, and can't say I never got depressed. This is REALLY BAD. I am happy to see I am not alone. I also have not had my period since I started this, 2 months ago. I have had nausea and cramping. YUK I even took a prego test because it's all the symptoms of when I was pregnant. This med is simply not for me.

Not Good!!! I had nausea, depression, leg cramps all the way down to my calfs, gastro problems and bleeding for the first three weeks! Bleeding everyday and tired with bouts of depression. I felt like I was ready to start my
period everyday!! My concern was the leg cramps because I was worried about a blood clot forming as one of the side effects of the Birth Control Pill.
My right leg feels like pins and needles and somewhat numb. They scheduled me for a Ultra Sound and found no blood clot. I just finished my pack and im not sure if I want to continue. My Doctor says it takes 3 months to fully get into your system...she wants me to continue? I have used Camella & NuvaRing and those too gave me problems! This pill seems to be the worst of the three!!! I am 42 and never had a problem with BC in my twenties and thirties? Hmmm? I may have to go off totally! It's not a good pill for me and I feel that a lot of you have the same feelings...

Oh my - I'm so glad, for once, that I googled something. I have just taken my 17th Loestrin pill and it will be my last. I could NOT understand why I felt the way I did. It started with nausea, progressed to acne and dry patches (in the same place!), then extreme fatigue, then I just couldn't do anything but sleep or mope around. Gradually I had an increasing feeling of extreme anxiety. I dreaded the future but I couldn't understand why. Then the depression kicked in on day 11 and I felt as though I was grieving very deeply... but for what? Nothing had happened! I began to think of my husband leaving me and how it would be for the best. And I felt like walking out on my children and climbing a mountain and just sitting there. I was like a zombie and passed over many social events because I just couldn't bear to talk to anyone. I began to look half dead and stopped taking care of myself. Eventually I had thoughts of quitting my job and was very close to making a phone call and saying some very final things to my bosses! Thank GOD I didn't - I stopped the pills first. THen I googled the brand name. Then I saw all these comments and may more on another site and it was such a huge relief. Now I just feel angry that my damn stooped bloody GP had no idea about how wildly varied people's experiences on this pill are - and therefore didn't warn me.

Tomorrow will be my last day of the first pack of Loestrin, but during my 3rd week I got a period. Is this NORMAL? I am not used to taking a daily medication and I forget to take it at the same time everyday, even though I normally try to take it when I wake up in the morning. I wear a panty liner because I have been spotting for the past few days, even after the "regular" period was over

First of all, some people are right.... some birth control pills are different for everyone.. and i have to totally agree with TOWN...right on the button!
I had some nausea in the beginning, but hell..I have been on every birth control pill, Iud, depo fat shot, and they all still made me bleed heavy and cramp.....My family are heavy bleeders big time...My insurance finally approved Loestrin for me and this is a blessing in disguise! I have no periods! I may have occasional lil, I mean lil, spotting every now an then, but it is worth it. Sex drive? You can't get horny? Think of something... And every birth control pill there are chances of depression in every one, read. I have a tubaligation so I am only on this pill for period purpose only, but I am staying on it.

Well i been on loestrin for about 5 months now, Ive tried 4 other contraceptives (that kept giving me nasty yeast infections, headaches and severe nausea! , but this is probably the only one my body tolerates..... as far as symptoms, in the beginning i would have massive migraines and nausea almost everyday it was horrible! but it got a lil better as time past....of coarse mood swings from here to there, and a low sex drive... it suxs my boyfriend thinks "im not into him" anymore, and im telling u its the pills... cuz i didnt have this problem before i got on em. but i guess i choose to be on the pills cuz i dont want any accidents....it helps my acne for the most part.....haven't had any migrans lately hopefully they wont come back.... but my next step will probably be the IUD...hopefully this wont give me no problems =/ if that dont work then i dont no what im gonna do...anything with tooo much estrogen gets me really sick.....
