I was injected with Lupron and the shot last for three months. I had the shot in order to stop my periods to increase my blood count for surgery to remove fibroids. The first two weeks, I spent having a very light cycle. I'm 2 1/2 months in and haven't had one since. I have, however, had menstrual cycles and never had them when I had my cycles before Lupron. I have a high tolerance for pain, but I was constantly popping Motrin to deal with the cramps. I experience pressure in my head during the second month, but it has gone away. My sex drive sky rocketed since I've been on the shot, but I have some vaginal dryness. My energy has also decreased since being on the shot and I don't work out like I use to. The three months is almost up so hopefully I can get back to normal once it's over.

ok, so I am 28yrs old just had my second lap for endo and my doctor has recommended lupron, after reading this I am soooooooooo scared to even get near this med. Its like you either take this with the hope of saving fertility and no pain..or not and have endo ravage your body and you will live with unbearable pain!!! I have no idea what to do, my post-op surgery appt is this week, and i am so scared after reading this. Is there anyone that did not have weight gain, headaches etc...anyone that can testify that lupron actually worked for them? Cause right now its my health on the line, my ability to have children, my ability to have a normal life free of endo pain or these crazy, horrible side effects...please help me!!!

I have been on Lupron for almost four years for my endo. I have yet to get my period but have to say that while on the shot I had hot flashes, severe mood swings, and night sweats. All of the symptoms came in cycles and for the most part I felt great. I actually lost weight, and the best part, never got my period (duh). My sex drive fluctuated and I did experience vaginal dryness. I just want to get my period, it's freaking me out that I haven't gotten it over a month after I was supposed to take it last.

I was on Lupron therapy for 9 months. Not a fan. I experienced sever hot flashes, memory loss, sluggish thinking and vaginal dryness. Its not something I'd want to go through again.

I began the three month Lupron shot about 2 weeks ago. After about a week I began to notice that I was having some side effects that I was not made aware that could even be possible. It wasn't just vaginal dryness and hot flashes. I was having a very hard time urinating a began bleeding for a day or two at a time which was heavy and unusual with a lot of large blood clots. I have had a lot of anxiety attacks especially when trying to go to sleep. My stomach has been hurting me terribly to the point I can't sleep, it hurts as though I have severe intestinal problems. I have had extreme bouts of uncontrollable anger, which is horrible when you have a two year old to care for. I have had miserable migraines, breast pain to the point where just a t-shirt on hurts. I feel so emotionally out of touch crying over everything and not caring about much of anything. I feel like I am going absolutely CRAZY! I wish that doctors would let people know what ALL the side effects could be, I feel like I as many people on here were completely under informed.

I was absolutely miserable on lupron. It all started with a softball sized cyst on my L. ovary that burst and landed me in the hospital from the pain. I didn't even know it was there! The Dr. went in to take it out with the scope, and told me that I had stage 3 endometriosis. I never had any pain, so I find it hard to believe that I even had endo. At any rate, he told me in order for it not to come back, I would have to go on Lupron. He told me I may have some hot flashes and vaginal dryness..I read the brochure on it and I thought the side effects would be worth saving my reproductive tract.
I gained 30 lbs during my 4 months on lupron. The hot flashes were terrible, I would have 2 or 3 in an hour, drip sweat, and then freeze. The vaginal dryness was so bad it itched internally, I had to use massive amounts of lube to have sex--which was nearly impossible because my boyfriend couldnt stand to sleep with me constantly moving around, dripping sweat, throwing blankets on and off. I began to have anxiety attacks and terrible mood swings.

I wouldn't recommend this medication to anyone, ever. I was on the monthly dose, refused to stay on the medication after 4 months (June), and just finally got my period a few days ago. I still get occasional hot flashes, especially during or after drinking alcohol. I am doing about an 1 1/2 hours of cardio a day, besides using my bike for transportation, eat clean 90% of the time, and weight train a few days a week. The scale is not budging and I've been at that for about 6 weeks. It is frustrating to say the least. Does anyone know how long it takes your body to get back to normal??

I am taking Lupron as I had horrible endometriosis, two large-grapefruit sized tumors and several smaller implants removed. I lost my right ovary, and part of my left in the process. I am 28, newly married, otherwise healthy, and I want to have children, so I went on Lupron that my surgeon/OB suggested- monthly for six months. I read a lot of side effects and was TERRIFIED to go on it.

My own husband is an M.D. and I made him call different doctors in his hospital to see what they had to say...in a few days he called about 5 different OBs. Thankfully, they said that those that had side effects that were extremely severe was pretty rare. Still, I was scared.

I am now into my second month on Lupron and I have to say that the side effects aren't nearly as severe as I thought they would be. No hot flashes, no hair loss, no crazy depression, no anything else. I DO have fatigue, but it's manageable with coffee and extra sleep. I have some mood swings- mostly I feel more grumpy. The most noticeable and bothersome is the lack of sex drive and vaginal dryness. I also have trouble achieving "the big O."

Still, so far, very manageable. I'm not sure if it'll be worse if time goes on. But I feel like everything on the internet is really negative. I'm not discounting the tales of people who have had a bad time, but I wanted to put out there that it isn't always the worst thing in the world.

Hi...I'm glad I found this sight! I don't recommend Lupron; I think its bad side effects outweigh its good ones.

I only took one 3-month shot of Lupron in July of '07. I had horrible hot flashes...which I was told to expect, but the vaginal dryness, lack of sex drive, weight gain, breast changes, vaginal dysfunction, and, I believe the high blood pressure I now have is associated with this drug. I actually started looking for side effects online because my blood pressure has been elevated ever since taking Lupron. It is now January '08, and I still don't feel normal!

I was diagnosed with Stage IV Endometriosis, so my doctor prescribed me Lupron for 6 months, also add-back therapy for hot flashes and calsium for bone. I have gained 30 pounds since I got the Lupron, I was constantly craved for sugar and carb, it made my blood sugar and blood pressure went up. My lupron was finished in May 2006, it's now September and I still have not got my period yet. My doctor told me it will take 2 months to 1 year to have my period back. On top of that, I have also vaginal dryness and no sex interest. I would not recommend Lupron to anyone!

I started on Lupron in January 2006 and took my last injection on June 27. I was taking Lupron for endometerosis. I had the hot flashes which were horrible, mood swings and insomnia, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. Lupron brochures states you do not want to get pregnant while on Lupron but they do not need to worry about it because sex is uncomfortable due to the vaginal dryness. It is now August and I still have not had a period. I would not recommend Lupron for anyone.

This is the drug from hell! Nothing really happened after my first one-month shot, just a few mild hot flashes. My doctor had wanted to give me the three-month shot, but I insisted on the one-month to see how my body reacted. A month later I was given the three-month injection. The hot flashes increased dramatically. About a week later I started to feel like I was truly going insane. I was having serious panic attacks, I could cry over absolutely nothing, and I had this wierd disconnected feeling. Couldn't sleep, was exhausted yet had nervous energy, palpitations, feeling of unease all the time. This was pretty intense for a few days and was quite frightening. I had severe headaches, and I am not a person who gets headaches very often. Worst of all, I have had SEVERE joint and muscle pain. Twenty years of fibromyalgia was NOTHING compared to this. I had never had neck and back problems before, and now I'm experiencing pain all the time. I get weakness in my arms and legs, and often I feel a strange twitching feeling in my legs and neck. It has been over two months since I had that three-month injection. I'm due to go back for another one in early July, and I've already decided against it. The hot flashes seemed less intense for a little while, but now they're increasing along with night sweats. Nothing helps with the vaginal dryness, so my sex life is non-existent (not that I really care since this has killed my sex drive anyway). I had read about some of the scarier side effects before going through with this and asked my doctor about them, and he brushed my concerns off, saying that this stuff doesn't happen, I would likely just get some hot flashes. I'm very upset that I was pushed into having the three-month injection because now I'm stuck with this poison in my body. I think the pharmaceutical companies push the three-month injections. They got paid by my insurance company, that's all they care about and there's nothing I can do about this now. Anybody know if the doctors are getting kickbacks for pushing this on patients? For me this was follow-up treatment after having surgery to remove endometriosis and to remove one ovary that was severely affected. With that ovary gone I don't even know how necessary it was to follow up with Lupron. I'm 42 and will probably be going into menopause in a few years. Despite endometriosis I was able to have a baby at age 37 and was then free of endometriosis for almost four years. I will say I would probably think this was all worth it if I was going to try to get pregnant again, but I'm not, so I think this was all an unnecessary risk to my health. Anybody with similar experiences or info on Lupron, please feel free to email me at ****** Good luck to all!

I am in my fifth injection and I feel: hot flashes, night sweats, back and shoulder pain, vaginal dryness, diminished libido, memory loss, diminished concentration, depression. My doctor wants that I take Aygestin but I have fear because I read that can cause blood clots.

I am on my eighth month of lupron and have experienced all of the aforementioned side effects including vaginal dryness, decreased sex drive, moodiness, hot flashes and insomnia. I received my eighth shot about a week ago and I am feeling extremely anxious and paranoid. I am so emotional and feel like I am completely going crazy. Up to this point I have been a trooper and have complained little about my side effects. While they have been at times, inconvenient, they have not been completely intolerable. I am now at my wits end. I am really getting scared.
I have been on premarin for a few months. Should I double up on it (as my doctor recommended to aaid me with my sleeping troubles)? Will it help with the craziness I feel? Needless to say I am not getting the ninth shot (I have been prescribed 9 months of treatment). I want this stuff out of me as soon as possible. Any idea how long it will take me to regain a bit of sanity if I don't get any more of this drug??

I recently received my 4th shot of Lupron in a series of 6 for the treatment of endometriosis. I went through this 5 years ago and had much less side effects. This time has been very rough. Depression, suicidal thoughts, severe abdominal pain, bleeding still hasn't completely stopped after 4 months, severe vaginal dryness, decreased libido and difficulty maintaining my weight. I am so unsure about the 5th and 6th shot. I can't take 8 more weeks of deterioration. Any suggestions?

I am 28 and on my second course of lupron for endometriosis, and I cant stand the bouts of extreme fatigue, my body gets so weak and my eyelids feel like bricks, and it is soo hard for me to get out of bed in the morning....I also have been experiencing dry mouth, i could drink a pond of H20, and a four alarm fire (heartburn in my chest)....no hot flashes yet, but I do get hot very easily now...I am surprised however because in bed im the sex bomb lately, all i want is sex and it feels better than it has ever been....puzzling since vaginal dryness is a common reported side effect, mine must be vaginal wetness lol....Its strange but I felt all of the above when I was pregnant.

Obviously Lupron isn't right for everyone, but I have a positive experience with it to report. Initial (normal and expected) moodiness for approximately one week after each injection. Hot Flashes (treated with Premarin). Insomnia (again, treated with Premarin). Slight weight gain (6 pounds). Decreased libido with vaginal dryness. I've been receiving Lupron injections since Dec. 2001 (it's now Feb. 2003) to treat my severe PMS. The quality of my life has improved significantly and I'd rather deal with the few side effects from Lupron than the PMS. Unfortunately, this cannot be a continued long-term treatment and I'm currently faced with having to make a decision - total hysterectomy or ?

Hot flashes, hot flashes and did I mention Hot Flashes!!!They were the worst! I had my TAH-BSO three weeks ago today, and I have not yet experienced the hot flashes like I had on Lupon. I was on it for 6 months, had all the menopause symptoms... hot flashes/night sweats, insomnia, mood swings (I was evil at times), fatigue, vaginal dryness, no desire to have intercourse and I gained lots of weight (started weighing 110--ended weighing 125). After all this, it still didn't cure my endometriosis and as I mentioned, ended up having a TAH-BSO. Bottom line, I would NOT recommend Lupon to anyone!

I've been on Lupron for one month now, I've had terrible hot flashes, a constant dry, dull headache, vaginal dryness, bouts of nausea, terrible insomnia and my breasts have gone down one full cup size. (And I was only a B-Cup to begin with!! - has anyone experienced breast reduction?)
