I had 2 surgeries at once last week and was prescribed Meprozine 1-2 capsules every 4-6 hours. The first 4 days I took 2 at a time and within 20 minutes my pain was gone, I felt relaxed and a little drowsy and was able to nap, which I needed for at least the first two days after my surgery. Twice in 4 days, one of my legs twitched and once my arm twitched. After the first 4 days, I would take only 1 as needed, usually in the evening after I has been up all day and was in a little pain. I had slight dizziness when I first stood up the first day only when I would get up to go to the bathroom. Other than that, I had no nausea, and I have to eat something before I take any medication, no stomach pains, no allergic reactions (I am allergic to medications with codeine in it), no depression, no emotional swings (in fact, if I wasn't sleeping, I was so relaxed that I was able communicate normally, laugh, make my normal jokes, etc.), I did not hallucinate or see things. I was also on an antibiotic, which my pharmacist said would make me very thirsty so I attributed my dry mouth to that. Last year, I was prescribed several different strong pain medications for severe chronic headaches and they did nothing. I would recommend Meprozine for short term relief for pain management. I do know someone who got addicted to Meprozine after taking it everyday for several months because a doctor kept prescribing it to her, so it is definitely only to be used for short term use. If I ever have to have surgery again, dental work, or need something for pain management, I will be asking my doctor for a one time prescription for Meprozine.

I just started taking Meprozine today after having all 4 of my wisdom teeth surgically remove. As of yet I have seen no side effects whatsoever and am wondering if it might take a while to kick in. By no side effects I even mean no relief in pain, I've only taken 2 so far so I guess their is a chance it just hasn't kicked in quiet yet. Any advice on what to take when pain pills don't seem to offer any pain relief?

My husband has been prescribed Meprozine for a back injury, and since he has been on it I have notice a major difference in his moods, he is edgy, and temperamental. He has started yelling at my daughter for stupid kid stuff and arguing with me over small things and we never argue. He has had weird dreams and twitches in his sleep. When he is on the medication he doesn't seem like the man I married and when he is off its like hes going through withdrawals and trying to go un-noticed. He is also on Soma and Zanaflex. I don't know what to do. Im worried for him. He is also becoming depressed, and has had a severe migraine for 3 weeks now. He wont listen to me when I tell him not to take it. I would not recommend this medication to anyone, especially if they want to keep their relationship.

Meprozine worked for my abscessed tooth! I was in severe pain to the point of crawling the walls... I could not tell you which tooth was even hurting on Fri. when I went to the dentist. She had to numb my mouth to give me even a minutes relief. My cheek swelled the size of a baseball! Today it's the size of a plum.... I think I'll make it through this ordeal now, but without this medication I certainly would not have made it.

Nothing. I just had 2 wisdom teeth and one other tooth exracted. I am taking meprozine at least every 4 hours. Yes I'm a tiny bit off balance and it is making me a little tired AND it is relieving the pain.

Side affects? pain relief and some drowsiness.
Fine with me. I think you'd have to take something else so you can go back to work. Something that doesn't make you drowsy. I hope I don't become addicted by it as someone else stated.
Happy with meprozine.

Alright, well one time i was on the run from probation and needed something to calm me down. So i looked threw my fathers cabinet and found a bottle with some labes that said,"Do not operate motor vehicles...may cause drowsiness..", the mediaction, meprozine. So i took three out the bottle, popped one, then realized that these little capsules could broken up. So i broke up the next two, lined them up, and snorted. It felt like the right side of my brain was on fire, my face started tearing up, and i felt like i had just snorted a gram of pure salt. But an hour later i was sitting in my chair, nodding out, i was dulision and seeing my friend and talking to him on the left of me, whom i might add, had left in the previous hours, down to houstin. I slept really well though, I give this drug a 4 out of 5 stars. Oh yeah one more thing, side effects...consist of a really tripping dream, and bad nose allergies.

I was given this for a root canal. All I can say is stay away from it, ask for lorcet or percocet if you are in pain. This stuff made me feel like i needed to throw up but couldn't. I ended up sticking my finger down my throat at 4am just to get some sleep. All my motor skills were delayed and my balance was off. I was easily startled and agitated. I would be lying on the sofa sleeping and would suddenly get the feeling that someone was standing over me. I woke up and just about jumped off the couch in fright, and of course there was nothing there. Extreme Dry Mouth, and the medication blurred my vision at times. I also had no sense of time and was very disoriented. I also had some of the strangest dreams in my life while on this medication. My right hand would twitch at times, but not very often. This should be labeled as a roofy, not a pain killer.

I was given Meprozine after Lasix eye surgery and THANK GOD for it. I slept through the entire day of night of the first surgery. No side effects at all. I recently had a revision on my right eye and was given Meprozine again. I do not take medications as I do not like the side effects or whoozy feelings but Meprozine just made me sleep. Very nice...wish I got more than 2 tablets.

I was prescribed to take Meprozine after knee surgery. Side effects were very mild compared to other pain medications I have taken in the past. The sleepiness helped me through several days of pain and I think the rest actually helped with healing. I had been taking Hydrocodone for knee pain. Hydrocodone seems to keep me awake, so I was glad for the opportunity to sleep. I felt a little jittery the first day or two but the jitters wore off after the 8 hours of drug effects wore off. I would take Meprozine again but after reading these accounts from others I would be more aware of how it seems to affect me.

I was given Meprozine for my breast lift and it worked at first, but then i had severe twitching in my legs so I stopped taking it. I thought the worst was over, but here I am 30 hours later after stopping use and I feel out of my mind!! I am having horrible nightmares and can't sleep at all. I suddenly have the urge to ripp off all my bandages. I think that the devil's after me. I HATE this stuff, someone please tell me when it will be out of my system.

After having all my wisdom teeth out, I took Meprozine when I felt I needed it, in half-doses after the first day, and only for a few days in all.
When I took it, I was easily startled, jumpy, and sensitive to being touched, especially unexpectedly. My eyes did not focus as they normally would, and I was mentally unfocused, too. I didnt attempt to drive while taking it, but Im sure that would have been a mistake if I had, because I think my reaction times were affected. When I dropped anything while on Meprozine, my heart would race as I watched it fall, and I was never able to catch it. I might have been a bit clumsier, too. I was glad when I got down to just Ibuprofeen after the first few days!

I just had a tubal reversal a week ago and was prescribed Meprozine. I did notice that I didn't feel like I was all there, a little disoriented and severe dry mouth. I was still in a pretty good amount of pain for the first day or two so if this is a pain med for mod. to severe pain I would have hated to have not had it.

I have had 4 surgeries on heal over a 15 month period and everytime I have been given meprozine. I am not a pill popper so normally do not have a problem because I do not want to take a chance of taking something that will get me hooked on it. This surgery was different I decided what the heck I did not want to suffer the pain that I had previously if I did not have to. I have had a couple of instances that I had twitching, but the major side effect id this ungodly taste in my mouth that makes everything I eat or drink taste nasty. Other than that I have had no side effect. But will change to Propoxy which only seems to dull the pain but at least I can enjoy eating again.

I took Meprozine after minor surgery. I became disoriented and confused (sorted the mail and then threw it all away including 2 checks, among other wierd behavior) I was talking with my granddaughter and suddenly she disappeared (she never was there, I was hallucinating) My speech was slurred and rambling. It was a horrifying experience that still haunts me weeks later.

I took meprozine for pain after a root canal. I suffer from restless leg syndrome, so the effects of the medication severly affected this condition. My legs were jumping like crazy! In addition, I experienced a hallucenigenic affect which was similar to a reaction I have had from codeine. I stopped the medication immediately and took prescription ibuprofen which eased the pain from the dental procedure -- with no side effect. Will never take this again!

i was prescribed meprozine when i had my wisdom teeth removed. i only took two during the healing process because it didnt hurt hardly any. i saved the rest. i have taken a couple when i couldnt sleep for a long period of time and i got on here to see if it might help anything else.... sinuses, colds.... anything? i find some of the stories on here kind of scary. im sorry that those reactions happened to yall. hopefully next time the doctors will listen to you and prescribe what is helpful instead of harmful.
*tip- i wouldnt go back to a doctor that clearly ignored or wasnt paying attention to what i was saying about my medical history (seizures). thats YOUR life they are dealing with. find a doctoe whom you trust! :)

I had surgery and and my orthopedic gave me Meprozine 50/25. I was to take 2 capsules every six hours. Not once did I feel... anything! My husband said that I would sit, look off into space, and drool. I don't remember anything but being thirsty! Now this is pain relief! When I went off of it, I had some mean withdrawal symptoms.

i was prescribed meprozine after having surgery for a broken ankle. within 24 hours, i noticed there was random twitching throughout my body, which disrupted my sleep. but i did notice that the tremors got worse as i lay down. if your doctor presribes this medication, ask if there is an alternative with less disrupting side effects. you'll be glad you did.

Four days ago i had all four wisdom teeth removed after nearly two decades of constant migrains and other related pain.
While my quality of life has yet to show dramatic improvement due to the fact that i'm still recovering, i am hopeful.
The dentist prescribed two meds for me to take while recovering from the minor sugery. Meprozine and Methylpred (also know as methylprednisolone). The first two days have been a blur but i can remember sudden exhaustion and irritation at the least little thing. Now entering day five, still on both meds and a sudden drench in sweat for no reason sent up a red flag through the haze. I looked up both meds and the side effects. They are eerily familar in the mood swing department so i can't be sure where one side effect ends and the other starts.
I have felt weak, drained, lost memory, snaped and yelled over nothing and gotten upset to the point of begging my kids for a quiet moment and the frustration seems to just build.
Just a few moments ago i woke drenched in sweat on just the right side of my body.
I will be calling the doc's office first thing in the morning to discuss the option of a different pain managment. This is just not working or even worth it.

I was given Meprozine when Demerol made me vomit. The Meprozine got rid of my terrible headache in 15 minutes and the big side effect was drowsiness. I slept for many hours and felt drowsy for a few hours. It was mellow actually and I am not on any other medication. I didn't have any other noticeable side effects. I thought it worked great and would take it again (just one capsule) if I get a bad headache.

I was given Meprozine to take after getting my wisdom teeth taken out. I have a history of epilepsy, but have been seizure free for 12 years. In fact, I had an EEG last year and it came back completely normal. Well, a day after starting Meprozine, I felt very strange. I began to feel that sensation I would right before I would have a seizure. Sure enough, later that day, I did have a seizure. Luckily I was home and my husband was there with me. I'm kinda ticked off that knowing my history, this was the drug that was prescribed to me!

I was prescribed this medication after having two wisdom teeth removed and after CLEARLY indicating to the oral surgeon that I had a history of seizures. The Monday after my Friday surgery I had a grand mal seizure at work and was taken to the emergency room via ambulance. The information on the patient thing from the pharmacy indicated in small print at the end of the information about a small likelihood of seizures. Do not take this medication if you have any history of seizures.

I was prescribed Meprozine for post-operative pain (wisdom teeth extraction) and I found it to have profound emotional effects. Whenever I was awake, I would be weepy, still in pain, and prone to unusual fits of temper. As soon as I stopped using it, and switched to regular strength Tylenol, I was much better. Don't use this for any longer than you absolutely must.

My advice to anyone taking this medicine is check your own body/symptoms . . . her's was trembling (mostly her hands) for a couple days before she had the seizure. BIG red flag!
