About 6 years ago started methadone for RSD 90mg a day with some relief
but was aware of no libido, sweats (thought from RSD), weight gain, lethargy and
speech- thought confusion, dropped to 40mg a day with great difficulty but pain remained pretty much the same, back up to 60mg daily but lethargy, tremors,no libido-- very low testosterone, anxiety over uselessness but methadone is cheap but now is ineffective. Added Ritalin for alertness but when it wears off I must sleep. Also don't like feeling of perhaps requiring uppers.very depressed (over statement) but I take 450mg of Wellbutrin. No end in sight, am 64 and married, wife understands but she is burdened and sad. Evidently no other solution. RSD resulted from coleus fracture 1/02/2001,right hand useless.

OF COURSE HE SAID NO POSSIBLE WAY.I HAVE ASKED TO CHANGE MY MEDICATION TO SOMETHING EQUAL TO WHAT I AM TAKING AND WAS TOLD THAT I WAS ON SUCH A HIGH DOSE AGE (160MG) IT WOULD TAKE A VERY HIGH DOSE OF ANOTHER MEDICINE TO BE ADEQUATE.I JUST WANT TO FEEL O.K AND TRY TO LIVE MY LIFE AS ELL AS I CAN WITH DEALING WITH A CHRONIC ILLNESS AND NOT BEING OVERWEIGHT JUST FOR BREATHING.HELP!!!!!

I have been on methadone for about a year now. I started at 90mgs a day and it seemed to help my fibromyalgia but now in a period of 6 months I have gained 62 lbs.I went from 109lbs to171lbs at 5ft 4in. I am fat my husband will not have a thing to do with me. He thinks I can just stop the methadone no problem. After all I have read about the withdrawals I am now scared to death, Where do I find help? Is there anything my doctor can prescribe that will make any easier? Oh and I should have mentioned that I have gone down to 40 mgs a day on my own, its hard and some days the pain is so unbearable I have gone up to 60mgs.

weight gain, sweating, craving for sweets, loss of sex drive, no passion for life. Can't concentrate and have became a hermit. I never even want to go outside, let alone meet people or even visit old friends. Feel like I could be in a cave with a boulder over the entryway and I would be just fine. Was taking over 100 mg a day but am now down to 15 mg!! It has taken me a year to get here, that is how bad the withdrawal is. This drug has seeped into my very soul. I am afraid that I will not be able to get all the way off at this rate.

I HAVE BEEN ON METADONE FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS NOW AND I AM UP 150 MGS A DAY, I HAVE FIBROMYALGIA AND THE PAIN IS JUST TERRIBLE MOST OF THE TIME, WHEN I FIRST WENT ON THIS DRUG I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE PERFECT DRUG, IT TOOK ALL OF MY PAIN AWAY, IT WAS SOMEWHAT CHEAP, AND MY DOCTOR WOULD GIVE ME ENOUGH OF IT TO TAKE CARE OF MY PAIN. HOWEVER ...I WAS ALWAYS A SMALL WOMAN THE MOST THAT I EVER WEIGHED WAS 150 PONDS AND THAT WAS WHEN I WAS 9 MONTHS PREGNANT WITH MY CHILDREN, I USED TO HAVE TO MAKE MYSELF EAT TO TRY AND GAIN WEIGHT..AFTER BEING ON METHDONE FOR ABOUT A MONTH I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT I HAD INTENSE CRAVINGS FOR SWEETS THAT I COULD NOT DENY...IT WAS LIKE NEEDING A HIT OF HERION OR SOMETHING.. NOW THAT LITTLE GIRL THAT USED TO HAVE TO TRY TO GAIN WEIGHT AND WHOS NORMAL WEIGHT WAS 115 POUNDS IS UP TO 162 POUNDS AFTER JUST 7 MONTHS ON THIS DRUG, I AM ONLY EATING ONE MEAL A DAY AND JUST HAVING A FEW BITES OF SOMETHING AT BREAKFAST..THE MORE I TRY TO DIET THE MORE WEIGHT I GAIN...SOMEONE HELP!! IS THERE ANY THING AT ALL THAT I CAN DO .. I CAN SOMEWHAT DEAL WITH THE CONSTIPATION THAT IS NEVER GOING AWAY AND I CAN DEAL WITH THE SWEATS THAT ARE HORRIBLE - I CAN EVEN DEAL WITH THE SLEEPINESS AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES BUT I CAN NOT DEAL WITH ALL OF THIS FAT..THIS IS MAKING ME EVEN MORE DEPRESSED AND SUICIDIAL THAN I EVER WAS BEFORE METHADONE....I REALLY AM THINKING ABOUT TRYING ANOTHER DRUG BUT THEY ALL JUST COST SO MUCH.....ANY ADVICE FOR ME ABOUT THE WEIGHT GAIN???

I have just recently started taking methadose, I was invovled in a motor vehicle accident in 1999. I experience severe pain everyday not always intolerable but sometimes excruciating pain and have suffered for years, until I went to a Pain Clinic that was a godscend to me. I can finally be halfway normal and do things I've only dreamed of and has helped me emoitionally as well, I am not so despressed. The only downside is that I become very constipated and have gained weight especially in the abdominal area. I'm not complaining because I am finally not suffering in pain or suicidal I feel great. But I am concerned that my abdominal area will continue to grow, I work out and do not over eat nor eat a lot of sweets any suggestions I'd appreciate it !

So far for me, methadose has been helpful as far as my addiction to heroin goes. I have had a lot of days that I feel tired but I've found if I keep myself active and busy that feeling does not happen until I let myself get comfortable on the couch in front of the t.v. or lay down in bed, then I am OUT. But all and all, I've had no bad side effects and have been on it for 2 months now at 100 mg a day. I have gained a few pounds but nothing horrible or that I can't lose.

I have been taking methadone for awhile now. I like the way it makes me feel. It helps alot with my past addictions with heroin and morphine. When I get done working I get home and pop a methadose and I am totaly relaxed after about an hour or two.

My side effects of methadose have been gradual weight gain, foot swelling (on both sides), onsets of fatigue, and black out flashes that seem as if when I close my eyes and wake up in a entirely different conversation with a person. I really just want to come off of it and go on with my life.

I have been taking Methadone for chronic pain for over three years, along with Hydracodone. "I have developed an addiction". I have lost the desire for sex,and at times usually have trouble performing sexually. How long will it take to get the sexual desire back? How long will it take to be able to perform sexually, after going completetly off Methadone, and Hydracodone? I was told by my docter that my testastorone levels are in normal range for a male. "I am hoping for some good news"!!!

I am using several medications now and I'm trying to figure out
which one is causing a severe nausea and wretching response at
times. When I feel hungry that feeling quickly turns to wretching
and just bringing up water or whatever fluid is in my immediate
digestive tract. I am also using Aranesp but have found no other
indication that nausea long after injection is causing this.
Does anyone have this response? I got sick last week and stopped
taking the Methadose (only 5mg every 5 to 8 hours) and I got in
such a feeling of agony and tiredness that I had to start taking it
again when I realized I forgot it. Anyone who can advise or discuss similar experiences - I appreciate and good luck to others.

weight gain, hair loss, I feel tired all the time. I have lost interest in doing anything. Nothing excites me any longer. It is like I have lost my passion for life. When I first got on methadone it gave me energy and wieght loss but now it is the complete opposite. I want off this drug and was having the Doctor bring me down 5 mil a week and when I hit 20 mil, I got very sick and they had to raise me up to 40. They said going down 5 a week was way too fast. I don't know what is right. But since this drug no longer works for me, I can't see any reason to be on it. It is a waste of my money.
