I have been taking Methimazole for exactly 1 week. I am 26. This is the second time to take these same drugs. Methimazole along with a beta-blocker, Propranolol. My thyroid had been back to normal for 2 years. This time, I started off taking one three times daily, then just one a day, now I was instructed that I should take three once daily. My tests just came back and I am extremely thyrotoxic and have Grave's Disease. I have had headaches on and off this week, today I have had a headache most of the day. My heart is still palpitating but my strength is coming back. Last week before starting the drugs was much worse. I could barely move my body hurt so bad, felt like I had a fever, fatigue...the works

I was started on Methimazole for Graves, 10 Mg daily. Three weeks after I started taking it, I broke out in hives all over my body - not little itchy spots, huge welts that had red edges and yellow centers. My endocrinologist said it was likely an allergic reaction and I should stop taking it.

I did stop, but four weeks later, I am still not well. I have mild itches and am weak, I have trouble sleeping and concentrating. I cannot walk for more than a few minutes without sitting down. The interesting part is that proprinal has a 50% chance of the same reaction.

We are back to monitoring labs and going nothing. I have never been so sick in my life, and I am now going to try non-traditional medicine to see if I can address the thyroid issues that way.

I am having horrible hair loss too. I always had thick, helthy hair. Now my pony tail is about half the diameter...I have to twist the hair band 3 times instead of 2 and it still slides off. And I barely have any bangs left at all.
My doctor said it doesn't matter, (in fact, he wouldn't even acknowledge it as a side effect) since my levels are now fine. Easy for HIM to say!!

I'm considering getting the thyroid surgery now, so I can get off methimozole, but I'm afraid what the side effects for the OTHER medicine will be. Since that's permenant, I don't want to take that step too soon...but I also don't want to go bald!
