I am taking 100mg 2x a day of Minocycline to treat my acne. About 2 weeks after the start of this medication, I gained 10 pounds virtually overnight. I know it was that fast because I see a weight loss doctor weekly and I'm on a very precise diet and exercise plan and it I was fine until about day 14. I went to bed the night before and woke up the next morning with an additional 10 lbs. Right now, I've been taking it for about 6 weeks and have managed to keep the weight gain to a minimum average a week by adding additional workouts to my regimen for a total gain of 14 lbs. Although it's treating the acne very well, the money I've spent to lose 53 lbs over the course of a year just to turn around and gain 14 in a matter of weeks is extremely frustrating. I did not have this side effect with Doxcy, but sun exposure was causing severe burns so we switched meds.
When I return to the doctor in a couple of weeks, I will see if there is an alternative solution.

I was given a 30 day supply of minocycline from my doc to treat my eczema. At first, no side effects and eczema did clear up. About 1 week in, I started to feel physically run down. Second week I began to feel not just physically, but also mentally down. By week 3 I was in the throws of full on horrible depression. With one week left to go I stopped taking anymore of my 100 mg pills. After 2 days of going off minocycline, I feel so much better. Really, it's like the difference between day and night. No doubts what soever that this stuff causes depression.

I was on Minocycline for about 6 consecutive months and found that it really helped my acne. I did not experience any bad side effects, except the first day where I had nausea. After 6 months I took it on and off for another 5-6 months, but found that it wasn't as effective anymore so I went back to my dermatologist. He said that for people who stop taking and start again it usually does not work as well anymore. I was on it for so long that the antibiotics started killing all my "good" bacteria and caused a urinary infection. My gyno suggested I talked to my dermatologist about taking me off the antibiotics. I went back and he put me on Loestrin24Fe ( a birth control pill). This was my last option, but we'll see how it goes.

My dermatologist prescribed micocycline to me for my acne in combination with topical creams.
At first, I wasn't to crazy about minocycline because it made me dizzy and thought several times about not taking it anymore, but after sticking with it for a couple weeks or so, the dizziness subsided, and my skin cleared up.
I'm glad that I stuck with it.

No where was it ever listed that Minocycline has any sexual side effects ... so i was beginning to think that my complete and utter loss of libido was just my own problem ... possibly stress related ... but when i ran out of the pills and forgot to get a refill my sexual appetite came rushing back. It was like night and day ... in only a week. I will never take this stuff again.

I took Minocycline years ago for several months for acne. While I was on it, I didn't notice any side effects, but when I stopped it I was EXTREMELY THIRSTY for a couple of weeks.
