I got my Mirena after having a medical abortion in Dec 07. My doctors in the past never allowed me to have an IUC because I haven't had children.
The one thing I didn't read when we decided on it was the pain of the insertion! Plus my Gyno could get it to stay in! He had to put it in 5 times, and then when I went to have it checked the strings disappeared. So I had to have another Ultrasound. (I had to have one to get the RU486 stuff). So we expected any emotional stuff to be from that.
Well my sex drive is fine... my boyfriend is the one without it! The problem is that if he ever gets his back I will probably be bleeding. Shorter lighter periods my ass... Mine are longer heavier and more painful than when I was on the pill.
At least I haven't gotten pregnant. But now my bf doesn't have any sex drive so I could only get pregnant by immaculate conception!
Is it as painful to have it removed? Since I don't have the strings will I need to take the pills again to force it out or something?

I got my Mirena inserted on Feb. 14th, 08...5 weeks after I had my first child. The procedure did not hurt at all and I did have some spotting that lasted about a week and some cramping that was just on the first day. On the day that I got my Mirena my back started hurting around where my kidneys are and then I kept feeling like I had to urinate every minute...Then I passed a kidney stone! I have no idea if it had any thing to do with Mirena or if it was just going to happen anyways. Besides being in intense pain that night...I have not had any problems with the Mirena. My BF says he cannot feel the strings when we do our thing...So I am guessing thats a good thing! I haven't checked for the strings since I got it inserted. On the 20th I started bleeding pretty heavy and I was wanting to ask you ladies when you normal period started after getting it inserted?? I guess if this is my normal period I will be checking for the strings in a bout a week lol...Thanks for reading ladies!

I have had Mirena since July. I went through a lot of life stress this past fall (moving to a new city after 10 years, being separated from my bf during this time for two months, etc) but I really think Mirena is not right for me.
I am bloated all the time, my periods are erratic, I am more moody than usual and I have NO sex drive. Worst of all, I think I'm pregnant ALL THE TIME. I just don't trust this thing and I literally drive my man nuts worrying about being pregnant. I also have developed some pimples (like on my back, upper arms, etc) that I never had a problem with before! I have gained a few pounds as well.
I feel like a putz spending all this money but I really want it out. I feel like I should "give it more time" but really, what is the point?

I had mine inserted in January 2007...it's been almost two years and I still have all of these side effects. My dr has actually even put me on the YAZ pill in addition to my MIRENA to try to control all the extra bleeding. I am normally a very happy person and it seems like now I'm always moody and emotional....sex is uncomfortable and my hair is falling out. I have never put all of these issues together with my IUD. I always just thought I was the odd ball with all the problems. My BF has had hers for 3 yrs and absolutely loves it. It's so relieving to know that I'm not alone and I'm not losing my mind.....this thing is coming out Friday morning.....
