Mirena sucks! I had it for 7 months! Never knew when i was spotting or going to have a regular period. It was supposed to be my magic bullet according to 2 different OB/GYN practices. I am 31, have two kids and do not want anymore. I have 7-10 day long periods with horrible cramps regularly. Also-previously had paragard IUD for 9 mos in past. I've tried every kind of Birth control out there (pretty much) and I was told Mirena will decrease the duration of my periods, decrease cramps, and eventually stop altogether. WRONG! I had Mirena placed in May 09 and bled heavy (1 pad and 1 tampon for 60days straight.) MD said 'give it a chance.' ok...then I had spotting almost every day then a period for 7 days then another period two weeks later then my body 'seemed' to be adjusting and I had a 7 day long period then my next period 3 weeks later then I was doubled over in pain after sex, it felt like labor pains and I was having a baby. I went to ER and the IUD seemed to have fallen out of place and lodged in my cervix area. They did a vaginal ultrasound to find it. It seems that my uterus was contracting and trying to push it out...kind of like having a very small baby. My youngest son was 9lbs 13 oz natural child birth and these pains were pretty close to the early stages of labor. Two days later, I had GYN remove it and I am now on loSeasonique and much happier with mood and no cramps or problems so far. Mirena was the worst birth control method I have ever had to endure! Ladies please beware and good luck!

I have had Mirena for 7 months now and when i first had it inserted it was the most painful thing i have ever felt i mean worst than my labor pains and i had a natural child birth. After about 45min the pain slowed down put was still feeling bad for a few days. The next few months were grate i hadn't felt any pain. But recently i had a period and its been going on for two weeks now and it keeps getting heavier i thought it was just a side effect but i was doing some research on people with this form of birth control turns out quite of bit of people get pregnant with the Mirena. So now I'm thinking that I'm having a miscarriage. I thought i was pregnant be for the bleeding started then i just figured i was just having my period but this 2 weeks none stop bleeding is starting to worry me so I'm going to get this checked out.even if i am fine i am still having this removed i cant handle these crazy side affects. And if you are having problems with this as well i would strongly recommend you have yours taken out as well you never know when something like this can be bad for your health and you shouldn't risk it..

But if you enjoy your Mirena i wish you the best of luck..

I got the Mirena after my 2nd child in April 2007 at the age of 25. It was very painful and I can handle pain I had just done completely natural child birth to a 9 pound baby. I bleed for the first three months. With really bad cramps!!
However until seeing this website I never realized that all these things that have been happening to me are probably from the Mirena. The last 6 months I have been having anxiety attacks, dizziness, headaches, mood swing, acne, and I have been so tired I thought I was pregnant, now after today I believe it is from the Mirena. I am going to call my doctor and have it removed!!!
