I Had Mirena Inserted in Late July 2008 at 22 years old. I've always been a very happy go-lucky person, optimistic, and I've never had any issues with headaches or acne. I was very optimistic about my decision to get Mirena. I had thoroughly researched it, and it seemed like it would be perfect for me. I WAS SO WRONG! My Insertion was a horrible experience that I would never want anybody else to go through. Apparently I have a thin/small cervix, so my Ob/gyn had to manually dialate me to 1cm. I have a very high threshold/tolerance for pain through 15 years of catching in softball and growing up with 2 brothers and being the middle child. But, this was painful, from the inside, felt like my inside were being pushed out through my abdomen. Then it was in and my ob/gyn tells me wow, your a real trooper most women cant take dilation unless their having a baby, your the only one thats never passed out from it. As soon as I struggled through getting dressed I had to sit down for like 5 minutes. I was sweating, I was dizzy, and I felt like I was gonna vomit and on the verge of passing out. I was in bed for the rest of the day after I fought and struggled through the 7 minute drive home. Over the next month the cramps were horrible, excruciating, damn near debilitating, as well as accompanied with brown discharge that didnt go away for two months and pretty much ruined all of my panties and were not even gonna talk about all the maxi thins I went through (at least 10 a day). So, now it's Mid January and I just set up my appointment to get this dam thing out of me. I'm a big girl as is, I'm 5'10 and I was 160lbs. Now I'm 190. But, I never had any issues with exercising and getting the weight off, I run at least 2 miles everyday as well as 30 minutes on my Ab Lounge and I do extreme jump rope, I just continue to gain weight and I have these massive cravings for food where I will literally get sick if I do not eat. My mood swings are all over the place, I'll be super happy, then hyper, then pissed off, and mean and it's like that all the time. I keep getting headaches at least 3 a week that I can only get rid of if I take medicine and sleep it off. Also my boyfriend complains of it poking him from the inside. My absolute worse complaint, THE ACNE. Before Mirena I had skin of a porcelain doll. Smooth, moisturized, soft, clear skin. After a month of being on Mirena, I started getting breakouts, and then it's just continued to get worse since. I've spent at least $200 bucks on acne meds, and make up to cover up, where before my skin regimine was water and a wash cloth with an exfoliant once a week. Now its a 40 minute process twice a day and it still doesn't help. I have bad breakouts almost 3 times a week on my cheeks and my chin. It's not regular acne either, its big, red, boil like bumps that take forever to go away and some have been so bad that they have actually scarred my face. My skin is now rough, broken out, scarred, and I've also noticed hair growth. Yeah hair is growing on my face which is absolute BS. I see it as I've spent $400 dollars for Mirena to spend about $300 more on preventative meds for headaches and acne, to be insecure about the way I look, have mood swings, and gained weight that cant be lost. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYBODY. ITS NOT WORTH TAKING THE CHANCE ON AND HAVING TO GO THROUGH EVERYTHING THAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH. IT IS A DAILY STRUGGLE UNTIL I GET THIS OUT OF ME. MY CONSULTATION APPOINTMENT IS ON WEDNESDAY, I'M 2 DAYS AWAY FROM RELIEF AND HAPPINESS. WISH ME LUCK AND TO ALL OF YOU OTHERS OUT THERE, GET IT TAKEN OUT, DON'T PROLONG THE AGGRAVATION.

I had Mirena inserted in August 2007. I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, and the doctor had to take me off of NuvaRing because of the connection of the hormones in birth control and HBP. My Gyno said that Mirena was very low hormone and would not affect my BP. Since I have been on Mirena, my BP has stabilized, but now I get dizzy spells, often, and I constantly have a headache. I also have cramping, sometimes very severe. I have gained ten pounds, and I have bad acne. I work out religiously and eat very healthy. I kept wondering how I gained this weight, and couldn't get it off, until I found this website. Also, I have never had an acne problem, and at 31 years old, I don't think I should have the skin of a sixteen year old, especially because I had perfect skin at 16. I found this website because I was having spotting, again, tonight, so I decided to GOOGLE the phrase "Mirena Side Effects." The spotting is not unusual since I have had the Mirena. It is one of the side effects that I experience regularly, especially after intercourse. Intercourse has been a problem, too. I have been married, happily, for ten years, and our sex life was great until I had the Mirena put in. Now, I don't want my husband to touch me, and I have even told him several times, since having the Mirena implanted, that I want a divorce. I think this has to do with the physical and emotional changes that I have had since getting Mirena. I have thought about having it removed, but I am finally starting my career after staying home with my three children. So I am torn because I don't want to get pregnant. My husband has said several times that he thinks that the Mirena has caused the problems in our marriage, and after seeing what others have to say, I am sure he is right. Although I have been thinking the same thing for months. Just a couple more points to make: Like some of the other woman, I have insomnia. When I had the Mirena inserted, I think I experienced TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) because I had an extreme pain where it was place, followed by immense dizziness, nausea, blurred vision and a rushing sensation in my face and head. When I went to get a checkup, I was told that the Mirena was "lost," and the doctor had to do an ultrasound to locate it. I have lower back pain and strong, period-like cramps. And I have an irregular period with spotting throughout the month. (It is getting expensive having to buy new panties all the time.) I think that I have made my decision to have the Mirena removed.

I had had the Mirena in for almost 2years before I began noticing side effects-mostly depression and terrible skin but also many others which were detrimental to my life, without being too dramatic! My sex drive was appealingly low and made me feel like a different person. I had the coil removed and am just using condoms, which are fine. I cant take hormones at all. I think many people don't realize that they cant either-they may experience symptoms that they don't attribute to their contraceptive.
Anyway, I have had it out for about 3months now and its the best thing I ever did. The only thing which is taking AGES to clear up and that I am really upset about is the acne. It has scarred my face and my back still feels horrible. The spots are still there, although they ARE fading. I never had spots before I got the Mirena. Its kinda upsetting that this happened since I had perfect skin before.
I have posted before, if you want to see how things have moved along, just click on my profile and if you want to ask any questions, please do.

I had it inserted in June of 2005 by my family doctor. I couldn't believe how painful the insertion was -- I nearly passed out and afterwards I had to call for someone to pick me up and take me home. At first I had some irregular bleeding but this stopped after two or three months. Aside from the occaisional spotting, I was thrilled to find that I no longer got my period! I haven't had any problems with moodiness, whereas when I was on the pill I was very depressed. I do notice that I feel bloated a lot. I've been having problems with my skin (scarring acne on my chin, chest and back) and this is driving me crazy because I used to have absolutely perfect skin! I saw a doctor today about the acne and he prescribed anti-acne medication... but now I'm thinking I'd rather just get this IUD removed and see if it clears up on it's own...

my name is Brittany and i have had my mirena since around February 2009 and at first i had some severe pain for a few days and bleeding non-stop for about three months.. but other than that for the first two months I had no problems or complaints! i thought it was the best idea any could have thought of! But i was so wrong..the constant UTI's and Yeast infections are unbearable! I have never had a yeast infection or this many UTI's in my life! I have a feeling it is due to the mirena! I'm completely uncomfortable all the time and can't wait for it to get removed! I would never recommend this to anyone!!! yea i didn't get pregnant, but i'd rather have 20 kids then be in the uncomfort that i am in! Also, I am now on zoloft and an anti-anxiety med! i have never had any of these problems before this and im hoping they will all go away! plus the oily skin and acne!! omg!! i had the most perfect skin and now i can't even walk out of the house without make-up on! Mirena is not for me!
