Neurontin and drugs

Well, Neurontin does take away some nerve pain, not big nerve pain like the leg nerve pain upon walking and sleeping. It does have side effects. I got dizzy, constantly sleepy, a sore throat, nausea, stomach aches and headaches. I took the pill apart to reduce the dosage. 100 mg. was too much for me, driving wasn't a good idea since I had a head injury and drugs can affect you more strongly (comprised). I stuck with it for three weeks, but now my stomach as doubled up. I can't stand stomach pains along with nerve pain. I did like the effect it had when sleeping, but I can't stand big time stomach pain when awake. Forget it. I will just deal with the pain.

I am switching from Lyrics to Neurontin. I have always had a weight problem and lost 50 lbs.on Weight Watchers and have gained about 10 of it back. I am switching from Lyrics to Neurontin, hoping to stem the weight gain. Opinions and experiences please . . . am I jumping from the frying pan into the fire? I CANNOT ALLOW THIS WEIGHT TO COME BACK ANY FURTHER !!!! HELP !!!!!!

My doctor prescribed me Neurontin today, and I heard that you can become addicted to it. I am scared to start taking it due that fact. I also read on the internet that it produce psychoactive effects, and I do not want any affects like that because I have a small child to care for. Has anyone experienced any effects like that? I like to feel sober and not drugged up. I have only taken 100 mg so far, but I am supposed to gradually up the dose.

I started out exhausted and dizzy as I was upping the dose for the first 3 weeks and then magically all of my pain was gone! I have chronic back pain due to L5/S1 disc removal, bulging discs and degenerative disc disease. Everything was great until I got my period and it started for 1 day and stopped w/mild spotting (that is not normal) the Dr. suggested I was pregnant when I KNEW that I wasn't. After the 4th week on the medication my hair started falling out. 1st more strands than normal and now by the handful! It is obviously thinning. Has anyone experienced this? Is the follicle permanently damaged by the chemicals? I've since weaned myself off the medicine and am in complete pain again. This seems to be one of the rarer side effects of this medication. Has anyone experienced this?

my husband started this px about three weeks ago. It makes him tired all the time. Also moderatly high memory loss. He takes it to control seizures and it works well for that, as well as it does not enter the liver like most seizure drugs do.

I have all of the ill effects mentioned above plus one more. My vision is impaired 40 % worse than when I first started this medication. I would have to say that I too am very frustated with this medication now. I have short term memory loss, weight gain, chest pain, constipation, swollen extremities, no sex drive, headaches, excessive feelling of euporia, depressed, and much more. The one thing I can say is that it did help the problem for which I was prescribed. Chronic neck pain/spasms. Go figure!

I have adapted to the ataxia (what I call walking into walls), tiredness, some short term memory loss etc. I still have some of them and I have been on it for a year, maximum dosage 1800 mgs. Now I am on 900 mgs. I guess I want to get off because I cannot stand the "hypoglycemic" feeling I get from it. Feeling weak and hungry, also I have gained weight on Neurontin. All along I have never really "believed" that there was such a thing as Atypical Facial Pain but as I come down off the drugs wierd things happen. My neck begins to hurt me is the one side effect of lowering the dosgage of Neurontin.

RE: Neurontin and "anger problem".

The only FDA-approved use for Neurontin is for epileptic seizures, as the major effect is for involuntary muscle spasms. Describing something as an anger-problem is too vague to give a specific answer. Do you hurt people or yourself? Do you break things or do actions over which you have no control? Do you have insomnia that makes the anger-problem worse?

I have read of very bad side-effects from trying to get off of Paxil, and it's possible that the Neurontin is just an effort to try to deal with being on Paxil too long -- which sometimes happens, and the effectiveness of the drug goes down, something like heroin or cocaine.

Who told you the Neurontin was for an anger-problem, and do you have a choice of who you see or what you take? If it was me I would get off of both these drugs, and find out more about their physical effects on personal biology. Jan S. Wow you take 1800mgs 3 times per day. Well I heard the top dose it 5000mgs per day from my shrink. Right now I'm on 2400mgs starting today. So far it seems to be just starting to help w/ the IBS. I only found the dizzyiness and the high as a kite feeling just after increasing my dose but nothing extreme. Maybe he put you up to fast. I started out on 300mgs per day and then upped it only 300mgs every 3 days. Maybe your doc jacked you up to fast to the maxium. My doctor says its a safe medication so I am going to give it my best shot and hope it helps with my IBS it seems to be just starting to slow my mind a little so maybe that will help my gut and I can find better ways to deal w/ my damn stress and learn to relax I have tried every herbal remedy out there and to no avail nothing worked. I'm really rooting for this Neurontin because its costing me my full copay there is no GENERIC for this drug which is very dissapointing if it does work its going to cost me some money to continue to take it. Maybe my doc will write the script for more than one month otherwise I don't think I will be able to keep taking it its very expensive I don't know what people do without insurance to afford their drugs. Anyway hang in there and ask your doctor about going up slow on the drug maybe you did already I don't know. I don't find the side effects to be that bad.
