I have just been put on Neurontin and found out about this weight gain thing!! I am freaked out. I have come off of Topamax due to I could not handle the side effects and I was like I was in a coma. I am also on lexapro for depression so the topamax really effected me. The Neurontin has said to be given to bi polar patients but from what I have read people are having depression problems on it. So the whole weight gain and the depression thing is scaring me.

This freaks me out reading all of these...I just expierenced something....
I was in the hospital because they thought I had a stroke. I am only 26 years old. My whole right side when numb and weak and it was my leg, arm, and face, and lips, nose, and eye areas. It then went away after 48 hours. They have no idea what it was. they have done MRI's and ruled out Bells Palsey and tons of stuff. I also see flashing lights so they are starting to lean towards migraines.
The only weird thing is that I went in a while ago for extreme belly pain burning and they found that my liver was enlarged.
Now, someone else above mentioned these stroke like symptoms and the enlarged liver.
I also get strange thoughts. I am on Neurontin 2100 MG for anxiety.
Anyone have any advice?

Reading all these posts, I have to add my bit. The side effects of Neurontin are very similar to any sedating drug. Memory, problem solving, dry mouth, and some weight gain are to be expected. Neurontin is prescribed for seizure and pain that is connected to the nervous system, such as phantom limb pain and MS.
All patients should have their blood terted every 6 months if they are taking a seizure med or any tylonel daily. All meds have side effects, you have to decide if it is helping your medical condition more than another drug could, if you are better off with it or without it.
I have been taking 800 mg Neurontin for several years. I used to take 1200, but was feeling overly tired and lethargic and we (dr and myself) discussed it, and changed the dose. I am better off taking it, my seizures are under control with it, and it has less side effects than other seizure meds. And with my seizures under control, my migraine have been kept under control. (A lucky side effect for me!)My dr explained many persons with epilepsy do suffer migraines.
As far as Jan S. Kauffman wondering about taking it for anger control, certain types of epilepsy can and do cause anger outbursts, and that is most likely why this person is taking this.
Good luck to everyone taking the Neurontin, it has been great for me.

i have been taking neurontin for about 3 or 4 years now. i am also on several other meds. verapamil 120mg bid, cytomel 25mg 1/2 tab qd,valium 5 mg 1 tab tid, zoloft 100mg 2 tab qd, levoxyl 0.125mg qd and imertrex 100mg at start of migraine plus more later if needed(which i won't do) recently i have been having a burning tounge. my dr. says it could be one of my meds.'turning against me'. i also urinate all of the time. i can't go anywhere! i also can't urinate if i take almost any psytrophic drugs because i can't release it from my bladder. i have been schizo-affective for many years now. only within the last year have the meds.started to bother me. could the neurontin be the cause of my burning tounge and frequent urination? i already know which meds. that i use to be on that caused the inability to release urine from my bladder. i don't take those anymore? any help would be appreciated. my doctors are stumped. oh yes , my kidneys and bladder are ok i had them checked out by specialist. sorry. my neurontin is 300mg qd.

I was prescribed this medicine by my back doctor as I have a herniated disk in my lower back. Injections didn't seem to be doing anything and since this medicine which is intended to treat seizures, has the side effect of blocking nerve pulses to the brain. I thought I would give it a try and see if I could get through the day. I had been on Hydrocodone but that stuff made me dizzy and nauseated if I didn't lie down after taking it. I don't remember the exact dose but I don't care to one way or the other. I had auditory hallucinations and a migraine headache for 3 days. I ended up missing two days of work and could barely function. Maybe that was the idea as a seizure medication it would dope them up and they wouldn't need to function.
