My doctor prescribed me Neurontin today, and I heard that you can become addicted to it. I am scared to start taking it due that fact. I also read on the internet that it produce psychoactive effects, and I do not want any affects like that because I have a small child to care for. Has anyone experienced any effects like that? I like to feel sober and not drugged up. I have only taken 100 mg so far, but I am supposed to gradually up the dose.

My doctor put me on Neurontin for nerve damage to my foot related to heel spur surgery. I started taking it on the 17th of this month with it having no effect on the pain (I was only taking one dose a day at 300 mg). He has since upped me to 300 mgs twice a day. I am now having problems with bladder control, infrequent headaches, sleeplessness, inability to climax and horrible bloating and gas. If I hadn't been on other pain meds for the past 8 months, I would stop taking it. Any suggestions?

I take Neurontion 800mg 5 times a day for nerve damage due to a gunshot. I've taken it for about 3yrs. and still I never know how it will effect me, sometimes it makes me drunk and see double, other times nothing. But my memory is shot. I can't stop taking it, for nerve pain it's the best to help kill the pain. just hang in there.

My side effects are some drowsiness and memory loss, but I've been on it for about 3yrs. and have graduated up to 800mg/5 day. I could'nt deal with the pain if I did'nt have it so I just have to deal with the side effects, mine are'nt as bad as when I first started it takes a while to adjust to it. I take mine for Nerve damage pain, which is very hard to treat anyone know of anything else out there that's helped them?

I have been taking Neurontin 800mg for nerve damage in my right lower leg and upper left arm for multiple gun shot wounds. It burns when taking also cuts down the pain but kills my sex drive and have me drowsy and have to chase it with coffee to go on about my day.

I was on neurontin for pain from nerve damage which ocurred during a lung biopsy last April. I had very mild side effects while increasing dosage. About 6 weeks after starting the drug, I experienced severe tooth pain that migrated around my mouth. After several visits to the dentist, and losing the ability to drive or work because of the severe pain, my Dr. determined that the neurontin was causing the problem. I quickly weaned myself off it and the tooth pain disappeared immediately. I have lately began suffering unexplained black-outs with no warning indicators or any other symptoms. My Dr. thinks they may be seizures. Has anyone experienced this after taking neurontin? CC

RE: Spitting up blood
This is a BAD side-effect (although it's the first I've heard about it as connected to Neurontin) and you need to see your doctor immediately! Blood coming-out where it's not supposed to be is a sign of a broken blood vessel somewhere( you need to be ready to tell your doctor -- or call 911 -- about quantity of blood, frequency and timing of blood flow.) If it's from the head-area it could be from a small stroke. Facial numbness is also a symptom of a small stroke, serious as a heart-attack. Are you having trouble talking, walking, or paralysis in any limbs? CALL YOUR DOCTOR -- preferably the one who prescribed the Neurontin...tell him/her it's an emergency.
The facial numbness could very well be connected to nerve-damage in the herniated disc, but it's more frequently a sign of stroke, nerve damage from clots, etc...
Sometimes pain is a survival characteristic...it tells us something is wrong in the body. Good luck. JanK, Neurontin userid, certified Master's level counselor and First Aid practitioner

I was first prescribed Neurontin in November of 2008 for cervical disc bulge touching my spinal cord causing severe nerve pain in my left extremities. I was prescribed narcotics and eventually prescribed Neurontin. The side effects from Neurontin, at that time, were seemingly intolerable, but as the narcotics were decreased several months later, I found the Neurontin was actually effective and did its purpose. The side effects from the Neurontin were not that great to outway the pain factor I had. I believe this drug does its job!!!!
