I experienced the same thing , your post was almost identical to what was happening to me. i`ve been working out for years ,was a personal trainer and have been involved with marshal arts for years. I started taking Nexium and a week after taking it I could hardly go to the mailbox and back without breathing hard and not being able to get a full breath thought it might have been my heart for some reason then panic would set in because I felt like my throat was closing up. Went to the ER cost me $1200 and they said everything was fine .I was taking 40mgs a day for about 4 weeks and finally said enough an quit cold turkey. I`ve been off it for about three weeks i`m getting better but still find myself trying to catch my breath especially after eating. Does anyone know how long it takes to get this monster drug out of your system? I guess it depends on the person. I`ve read any where form 3 weeks to 3 months ? Any advice would be great ! Please do your research before taking any drug just don`t fill the prescription and start taking anything anymore seems like most times the side effects far out weigh the benefits.. God Bless

Has anyone experienced severe gas with Nexium? It seems to have gotten better since I am trying to take every other day instead of every day. I do get tremendous relief from Nexium, as I exhausted every over-the-counter antacid medication. I have been on Nexium for 5 years, but would really like to get off it. I have also read the apple cider vinegar cure and would like to try it, but acv can be hard on your tooth enamel. So, my 2 questions are the gas problem and also, if you take acv, can you mix it or dilute it with anything - and how much do you take a day? Interesting that my doctor is totally against acv. The medical community must get a lot of perks from the drug companies.

I have stopped my nexium for 3 weeks now the hardest day was the first day off the pill. I have taken some form of acid reducer medicine for over 11 years. I have notice in the past 7 years weight gain, hungry, chest pain, abdominal pain, anxiety, bloating for after eating, never full filling. Now that I have stopped I cant tell you how great I feel. No more chest pain, over eating, anxiety, bloating. I have since lost 12.5 lbs. I am 44 years old. The acid reducer is a Blessing when you have damage to your throat, like I did. I just wish I would have tried to get off it sooner.I would tell the Dr. all about my side effects but he would say if you lose 10 lbs I could reduce it to 20 mg a day instead of 40. I tired everything to lose weight.I google the side effects and saw where it steals cal./vit from you body. That was enough for me.

I am a 46 year old male. I have taken Nexium for 5+ years. I thought I had no side effects. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis this week. I have been breaking bones occasionally over the past 3 years. A bone density scan revealed a sever bone loss. Apparently the Nexium prevents the intake of vitamin D which is required for calcium intake and bone health. I need to get off of the Nexium.

10 days ago, my doctor switched me from Aciphex to Nexium. Within 30 hours, I was having severe nausea, painful acidic diarrhea, major abdominal cramping, headaches, muscle pain, and such severe reflux that I have gone through about half a bottle of liquid Maalox. I am not taking even 1 more of this pill.
Be very careful if you start this med.

I only took 3 pills and almost went to emergency room. Set my chest on fire, and my chest was sore for 2 days, and racey heart, dizziness, nausea, blood pressure up and down. i stopped taking and bought some liquid antacid. burning has decreased and is barable. Nexium is not for me.

I have battled acid reflux disease for 10 years. After years of Prevacid, Prilosec (prescription and OTC), and everything else, Nexium worked for me. I had no side effects except I was pain-free in my stomach. My only complaint was that 60 pills (of 40mgs) cost $40 after health insurance. I would definitely recommend trying it.

After reading the above articles from some Nexium users I understand why my physician gave me 3boxes 5 capsules each free. I can tell you this I want be using the drug. The drug industries want get a $ out of me nor will they shorten my life span.
You may not post this, but thanks. God Bless the USA.

Rash began on hands and feet and spread all over including eyelids. Swelling in hands and feet with tingles like severe pins and needles. Bloating and hunger pains 24/7 then agitation and now depression. Lastly, I have lost half my hair and have a huge bald spot on top of my head. Ohh also tight pain in chest so severe I have an EKG tomorrow.

Very bad rash that a week later has not gone away. Nexium actually burned my skin! I look like I have color like I just came from the beach. This is a dangerous drug. it works for the reflux, but the side effects arent worth it. I also develiped hip pain, like it was sucking the calcium out of the bone! The hip pain is gone, but i still have burning, itchy skin, and red all over, less than a week later after stopping, about 5 days off it now. Be careful if you are sensitive to hives, this medicine brought me to the emergency room with swollen hands and feet. it is dangerous!

Nexium has done the job for me. I still get SOME acid reflux, but without it I suffer from it every day, every night. Now I get one or two incidents a month. Clearly it doesn't work for everyone, but for me the Purple Pill has done the job. It costs me $35 a month after insurance, for Nexium 40mg. Personally, I'm not sure how long I'd live without either taking Nexium or altering my diet to about 5 bland foods.
I'll take the Nexium, thanks.

I switched from Prevacid to Nexium....that was a mistake. Like others have said on here, it is like taking no pill at all. I still get chest pains that wake me up in the middle of the night. These pills have made me lose tons of sleep. Something new now, is actually having intense heartburn, taste of acid, and dry mouth, along with all of the other symptoms. (Constant nausea, etc.) One thing that helped me while stuck on Nexium was a teaspoon of apple cidar vinegar. Sounds nuts but research it and read the results! Anyway, I'm going to the Dr. today to hopefully switch to Aciphex.

I requested my MD to switch me from Aciphex to Nexium after seeing so much promise about this purple pill from the ads and guess what? Bad move on my part. I took Nexium for about 2 months and Nexium is all talk and no action. Being on Nexium is like not taking any meds at all. It's completely useless -not to mention - very expensive ($2/pill without insurance or $45 copay with insurance). I guess the only positive is that I didn't experience any side effects while on this drug. But what's a no-side effect when there is no positive relief either? I am now taking Protonix and it's the best PPI pill out there.

Nexium has given full relief of acid reflux symptoms. Without it, it is extremely difficult to function; severe chest pain with severe burning. My prescription is one a day, but I have been able to take one every other day and am doing well. If a problem, then I go daily for awhile. GREAT releif!

I had to start taking Nexium last January when my insurance company would no longer pay for protonix or its generic. I was forced to start taking Nexium because there was nothing else. I have suffered with Gerd for ten years and systematically went from one drug to another when the insurance company would no longer pay for it (plus copays of course). I haven't noticed any particular side effects but over the last year I have had reoccurring tinnitus...............tried to rule out other things like my thyroid meds, but I noticed something very interesting over the last two days. I have been dealing with loud tinnitus over the last several days..............a roaring sound at times. Yesterday I forgot to take my pill and gee, no loud tinnitus yesterday or this morning. Right now things are so quiet....it's lovely! I did take a pill today and i will pay attention if the noise starts up again. I will have to stop taking nexium anyway since my job has changed insurance carriers and all meds for Gerd are now subject to prior authorization and outrageous costs. it's back to prilosec OTC now. I used to take it until it went OTC and I was switched to protonix. Anyone else have a similar experience? Thanks, D.
