I am on the nuvaring for about 2 months now and have had 2 severe SINUS INFECTIONS about 3 weeks after I started the Nuvaring and now again 3 weeks later i have the same severe Sinus Infection. I never used to get sinus infections but now I have realized that the cause of this is from the nuvaring. I went online and read about some of the side effects and one of them, believe it or not, is a Sinus Infection, strange as it may sound I am suffering terribly from this sinus infection and will need to get onto antibiotics to get rid of it.
So to all those that don't want to go through what I am going through right now just take this into consideration before trying the nuvaring.

I used the NUVARING for about a year before I noticed excessive discharge. After performing a pelvic exam, my doctor said that I had vaginitis and prescribed an antibiotic. When I asked her if the Nuvaring could be causing the symptoms, she told me that it wasn't the cause. The following 5 months, I did not have a period at all and started having pelvic pain. I decided to quit using the Nuvaring to see if that would make a difference, despite repeatedly being told by my physician that it was not the cause. After I stopped, my period returned to normal and the pain subsided. I have always hated taking the pill but my health is way more important than convenience.

Well...i'm only 17 years old and i have been trying EVERYTHING to get rid of my 2 week long heavy period and extremely severe cramping. I have been on 3 different kinds of oral BC and i would still bleed for 2 weeks. So i tried the Mirena IUD and that was the worst idea of my life. It went in fine but about 10 minutes later i was in a extreme amount of pain (and i have a very high pain tolerance, broke 3 ribs and didn't cry) i called my gyno back and he prescribed me a pain medication but it didn't work. After trying 3 different pain medications and an antibiotic i had enough. I went to the hospital and was prescribed percocet and that helped. I went back a few days later and had it taken out so now i am trying the NuvaRing. I put it in and a few hours later started cramping and having back pain. The next morning i had very bad nausea and cramping. Its about a week later now and i am experiencing headaches, nausea, quite bad cramping, bloating, tiredness all the time and i just don't feel myself anymore. I am calling my gyno back to see what he suggests but i'm looking for any ideas or suggestions until i get a hold of him. Thanks

DO NOT take antibiotics unless it is a Life or Death situation!
I have been diagnosed with CYSTITIS, based in my breasts & bladder, and now I'm scheduled to go in for other tests because I have had excessive bloating, IBS & pain in my gut.
I thought the Nuva Ring was causing my extreme random cramps, my breast soreness (Extremely Painful, making me want to inject them with novacaine, if it were a good idea...), my Pain During Sex (esp. since I have a lovely sex drive) and most recently, the constant urge to pee when I didn't, but it was NOT the birth control.
ANTIBIOTICS CAUSED THIS!
In the last month I have met 3 more women (& 1 man) with the same/similar problems and diagnosis, All on heavy antibiotics in the last year.
The good news is that it is Not cancerous to my knowledge, there are foods you can eat, like those that are good for reducing swelling, and it's a good idea to Avoid certain foods such as soy, anything too acidic like tomatoes, cranberries or citrus fruits & juices, preservatives, additives, really spicy foods, etc. **It is Very Important to take a Pro-Biotic capsule with At Least 4 different types such as Acidophilus, Bifidum, and others, depending on your symptoms & areas of concern (look up what bacteria does what). Taking these only during antibiotic usage Is NOT Enough!
The bad news? If a few months to a year of partial/full diet change does not help, it is considered either too late to help (get used to the pain, it's not going anywhere) or it may be an auto-immune disease, though this is quite rare.
PLEASE, LADIES -- Take Care when dealing with antibiotics, they are much more dangerous than many people/doctors know/are lead to believe. (And as for the yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis? Take 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide, 3 parts water, douche (rinse, do not let it set for more than 10 sec's) once a day before bed/naptime for a few days, splash Outside Only with cool water if needed, but Not inside. Burn/irritation for about 1 min. but Absolutely worth not waiting for a doc's prescript. or spending endless $ on crappy worthless ointments/creams. Totally safe when Diluted -- Hydrogen peroxide is made naturally on its own in All Vaginas, this just helps to kill yeasts and bad bacteria which are Anaerobic (do not like oxygen).)

I used NuvaRing in March of 2004 for 2.3 days and I've been paying for it ever since. My doctor's say it's just a coincidence, but I believe it was all triggered by the NuvaRing.
By the second day I had it in, I had the symptoms of a UTI and it was hurting to even walk. I pulled it out, called my OBGYN, and told them I had a UTI. They put me on the patch instead and prescribed me some antibiotics for my UTI.
After finishing the prescription, my UTI symptoms had not decreased, so I went in and gave a urine sample. They put me on a different antibiotic and after finishing that, my UTI symptoms still had not decreased.
They referred me to go see a Urologist at this point. I went in and they said my urine was fine, however I still did not feel ANY improvement. A week or so later I went back to the Urologist, and then a UTI did show up, so they treated me. Once again, I did not feel any improvement, but I went back and my urine test came out negative.
I had a done to look for possible Interstitial Cystitis, but the results were normal. Basically the Dr. told me I am fine and gave me Pyridium to use as needed to numb the bladder.
Ever since then, I've been to doctor after doctor, trying to find answers. Luckily the pain now is a lot less intense but still happens on average about 2-3 times a week, randomly.
None of the doctor's I've seen know what I have. The last dr. I saw said it's probably Chronic Urethral Pain Syndrome, but he is not sure. He'd want to do several tests, which don't sound fun. I've done so many already and to this day now I've had 3 cystoscopys, DSMO treatments that didn't help, PST tests, and so on.
My suggestion: DON"T EVER EVEN TRY THE NUVARING! Also, I was on the pill (many different brands over ten years), and don't recommend that. After getting off birth control, it took just about 3 years to get my cycles back to normal. The change in hormones also made me break out like a teenager, and I'm 34. Talk about no fun.

not really sure if 1 of my symptoms were from nr, i had been on it for 3 months and started breaking in hives for 3 weeks now. my husband thinks it is from nr, but the derm and pharm told me that it is not a side effect. if i am allergic to it i should have had the rash the moment i put it in. i had definitely gained 6 lbs. i thought it was from prednisone(derm put me on prednisone) thought it was allergic reaction from antibiotic. i cant stop eating, bloated and gassy all the time it is annoying and frustrating !!!!!!!

Night sweats! Horrible! Depression and sadness, yes...but never linked it to the ring. On the ring for 7 weeks when experienced racing heart and shortness of breath. Friend who is a nurse suggested it could be related to the ring. So immediately I removed it. Started having horrible night sweats immediately and have continued practically every night for 2 weeks. Have had xray, ekg, blood tests....nothing abnormal found. Convinced it was from NR.

I've been trying to find out if NuvaRing can cause Pelvic Inflammation. I've never had a problem with sex being painful, but since I started the Ring, Sex is so painful that I hate it. Nothing else has changed, I've only been with my husband, so the only thing I can think of is that it's the ring. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I used to be on Nuvaring, last year but eventually had to go off of it because I ended up getting antibiotic poisoning as a result of a surgery and managed to get non viral hepatitis and they didn't think it was safe to be on both birth control and all the medication for the liver. Anyway, I would just cry for hours and hours. One time my parents even had to call an ambulance because I had cried for over ten hours with nothing to eat or drink which seems so silly looking back on it because I have always been an extremely perky and upbeat person. I still had to go to the hospital for extreme nausea which everyone seemed to think was due to the hepatitis although in the end, my liver levels showed no reason for that to be. And now that I'm trying the ring again, I find myself once again crying for no apparent reason and completely nauseous. It almost feels like something is unnatural about my body and I've only had it back in for a few days after a couple months of a break. And I had been fine inbetween. However, it's such a simple form of birth control I'd hate to go off of it just because of some side effects.

I started on the NuvaRing in April of this year, so this is my 4th month on it. The first month was great! I loved that I didn't have to think about it daily and my libido was through the roof! The only side effects: I noticed immediately that it increased my discharge, which was a little uncomfortable on a day-to-day basis but was very nice for making love. The discharge was also a whitish color, which threw me off because I'm used to it being clear but my doctor assured me that all was normal. Also, it would occasionally fall out during more passionate sex, which wasn't a big deal. I just washed it off with cold water and reinserted it. The second month, things seemed great until the last half of the month. I noticed that there wasn't as much discharge and I would get a slight burning sensation after sex. About a week later, I came down with a full blown yeast infection. I hadn't had a yeast infection in 10 years! I treated it with an OTC 3 day suppository, which seemed to help it a little. I removed the NuvaRing like normal and a few days later I started my period. Things seemed to go back to normal and a week went by without much problem. The middle of the 3rd month I was slammed full force with yet another (or the same) yeast infection, plus bacterial vaginosis as well. I asked the doctor about the NuvaRing and it possibly causing/aiding yeast infections. She assured me that it wasn't possible for the ring to cause infection. She gave me instructions on how to properly rinse it off in case it ever fell out again. She prescribed me 2 doses of Diflucan for the yeast and an antibiotic for the BV. I took both and afterward things seemed fine for another 2 weeks. This week, I noticed that I had a weird itchy feeling down there before bed and sure enough when I woke up in the morning it appeared I had another yeast infection. I called to make an appointment but the nurse just called back and prescribed me 2 more Diflucan pills and told me to give one to my partner. I asked again about the NuvaRing perhaps being an aid in the appearance of these infections and again she told me that it wasn't possible. At this point I am really confused. I don't know if I have a really bad yeast infection due to the ring or if my boyfriend and I are simply reinfecting each other. I also asked about whether I should discard this NuvaRing and start a new one after the infection clears up and got a very vague response of "it's your call". I really don't know whether to can the NuvaRing or keep going a little longer to see if this is all a big coincidence. I just think there isn't enough known about the NuvaRing...by my physician anyway. More side effects to note in the fourth month: weight gain, loss of sexual desire, vaginal dryness (the discharge was short-lived), irritability, crying fits. I'm just at a loss...I really wanted this to work for me...
