NuvaRing and leg pain

Hi, I am 28yrs old. I tried the nuvaring for the first time 1 month ago. After 2.5weeks I noticed I had shortness of breath (before i would normally bike about 30 mins three times a week), my heart was racing, chest pains, leg pain mainly in my left calve, depression, a rash on my arm, yeast infection, body aches and flu like symptoms (I went to the emergency room this weekend and they told me I had sinucitis) , when I breathe in my chest hurts. Also this past weekend my period started and I am bleeding so so heavy and the pain is unbelievable ( I am thinking about going back to the emergency room as I type this). Basically I have almost every side effect that could lead possible stroke, blood clots or death. I need help. I am so scared right now, but i am not going to use it anymore. When I asked my ob/gyn about my symptoms she said "the nuvaring does not have side effects.

I was on NuvaRing for one year and I just stopped. Not only did I get the weight gain, nightmares, back pain, leg pain and sweats but I also had NO sex drive what so ever.
I have also seen on tv that they are recalling the NuvaRing. It has caused epileptic episodes and even death. Horrible horrible thing if you ask me.
I will never take anything again that isn't natural.
I have been off the NuvaRing for one month now and I have been bleeding all month long and having problems sleeping! BE WARNED ABOUT THIS!!

Well ladies let me tell you what... I must be super sensitive to this crap!! I started the ring because I had used it years ago and LOVED it!! I mean LOVED it! It WAS the only bc that didn't give me any issues... they really must have changed it... I'm gonna list my new symptoms and reasons for taking this crazy thing out...

Nausea,
Headaches,
Visual Migraines... spots in eyes
Dry Mouth
Breast Pain
ALL of my hair is FALLING OUT
in 3 days gained 10lbs!!
Mood swings
Think i'm pregnant every day!
Still get cysts (which was my need for the ring)
Horrible constipation/diarrhea... IBS like
Lack of energy
Itchy scalp
Leg pain
Hip pain
All the symptoms of thyroid issues!!
Circulation issues
Took Sudaphed and almost had a stroke!! BP was 180/110 WOW!!
normally is 117/67

My advise... GET OFF THE NEW RING... The old one was great...this new one is DANGEROUS!! I have worked with doctors for years... they prescribe things that the cute sales reps bring...

Positive: Lighter periods and little or no cramping; less depression and less weight gain than the pill
Negative: Numbness in hands and feet, leg pain, COUGHING UP BLOOD, dizziness and FAINTING, low to no sex drive, vaginal dryness and itching, shortness of breath, MEMORY PROBLEMS, LACK OF CONCENTRATION, MIGRAINE HEADACHES, SKIN RASH, COMPLETE INTOLERANCE TO CONTACT LENSES

Does this sound like something I should voluntarily do to myself?! NO WAY!!!

The nuvaring should not be legal. It made me insane and violent and gave me racing thoughts. I could never sleep. I was mean to people. It made me itch like hail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S.- Here is a comment from my boyfriend who got very upset because of my side effects on the NR:

"She went crazy one night and threw something across the room for no reason, because she said something to me that made me furious. She was completely irrational and i though she was being possessed by Satan. Than, we found out it was THE NUVARING ALL ALONG!"

I have been experiencing many of the symptoms that have been posted here and cannot begin to tell you what a relief it is that I'm not alone. I have been using the Nuvaring for 6 months. Some of the pros were convenience, larger breasts ( I went from a full C to a DD), and more lubrication. My side affects were extreme leg pain, excessive weight gain (about 30 pounds), increased appetite, fatigue, head aches, irritability, heart rate increase, dizziness, gas, bloating need I say more? Last night I took it out immediately because I finally put all the pieces together. It's amazing to know that I'm not alone in all of this. The weight gain was so fast that I have stretch marks that are extremely deep and I have belly fat for the first time in my life it has sprung right on my stomach. I'm only 19 so this is quit concerning for me... I went from 165 to 195. I have stayed around 165 for 5 years and the fact that I put on this thirty pounds was extremely concerning. I am grateful I know what's the issue, and hopefully with more energy and a decrease in appetite, I will be well on my way to my old self.

I had used NR for six weeks when I woke up at 3 am with SEVERE chest pains. Went to the ER and was diagnosed with *substantial* pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs). I was hospitalized for five days and am now under the direction of a pulmonologist and hematologist for the next six months while I'm on blood thinner therapy. I had to do injections into my abdomen twice a day to prevent further clotting until my blood reached a theraputic level with the Coumadin (blood thinning drug).

Usually, pulmonary embolism afflicts sedentary people or those who have recently had surgery or those who have cancer . .. etc etc etc. I am a 33 year old personal trainer. I have ZERO risk factors for this to have happened to me . .. other than the nuvaring. It was determined that it was the cause and I was told to remove it immediately and to never never never use it again.

Please be careful in your decisions to use this product. I used it for the convenience of not popping a pill daily as I would usually forget. Wish I would have just looked a bit further into the possible side effects before choosing to go ahead with it.

Hello, I've never been on birth control before, but i recently had an abortion and decided I really need to get on some kind of birth control. I am 27, married, and I am a NON-SMOKER. Nuvaring seemed to be the best option for me, easiest, effective and practical. I'm only on my first ring, it comes out for the week break in few days. So far I have NOT had any irritability or headaches, or anything like that. I have gotten a little "spotting" which to me can still be linked to the abortion or even sex. What I DID notice, however, is that I had a few sharp chest pains here and there, quick and not consistent, my husband thinks that could be from stress. I also noticed what I thought to be a pulled muscle in my lower calf could be a sign of a blood clot, which totally scares me. A persistent issue I HAVE had so far, is that I have that numb "pins and needles" feeling in my limbs a bit more often than usual. I do sit odd and my limbs tend to fall asleep more than the average person, but I actually notice it happening more frequently, like my blood circulation isn't as good as it was. I have NOT had high blood pressure. I ALSO noticed I wake sometimes with severe leg pain (cramping) that reminds me of those "growing pains" one would get as a child. I haven't had those since I was a child, wondering if it could be due to the NuvaRing. If anyone has felt similar pains let me know. I am visiting the clinic tomorrow to discuss these things and to see what could be a safer method of BC 4 me!

Is anyone experiencing lingering depression after discontinuing NuvaRing. I was on it for 7 months and have been off of it for 5 weeks and can't shake the blue moods and feeling of hopelessness. My normal self is very happy and I have no history of depression which makes this new trait all the more disturbing. I feel stuck.

I had a period and thought my mood would improve afterward, but it really hasn't. Overall, I am better than I was at first, but the progress is so slow that I can't see it most of the time.

I posted last night about how I was hating Nuvaring. I don't know why I forgot to take it out last night! Anyway, this morning I was actually day 16 on it. I woke up with pain in my ribs and abdomen and a severe headache. Again, I was very exhausted and depressed. I finally took it out. The rest of the day was very hard to get through - extremely depressed and unable to exercise. Later today, both my legs were killing me - felt tight and like it hurt to stand on them. I had been having some leg pain last week, but didn't attribute it to Nuvaring. It was a like a cramp. I also had pain in my left arm that got worse over a few days. I also spent the rest of the day feeling even shorter of breath than I was yesterday. I am glad I read this board and I am glad I took it out. I didn't know what these symptoms were from really - and now I know.

so far i'm loving it. this is week 5 (my dr told me to change every 3 weeks to prevent endimitriosis so i'm not getting a period). Last week, however, i started getting the most AMAZING leg cramps. I'm just wondering if this is a side effect of the nuva ring or just really bad dehydration (i was in the carribbean working for the past 2 weeks). Any information you have on leg cramps related to nuva ring usage would be greatly appreciated.
