I started using the NuvaRing in 2003. I am still on it and now really having second thoughts. When I started usign the nuvaring I was already taking the anti-depressant Lexapro (not sure if it's spelled correctly). Since I started taking both of the medications around the same time, I could not decipher which symptom went with what medication. I was experiencing numbness in my face, hands and legs. I was also very fatigued, had a candida related rash for 6 months, and gained weight.

Yet, through these symptoms my period was easy, painless, and short. So I quickly assumed it was all related to my anti-depressant. My doctor prescribed me Prozac and most of the symptoms I had been experiencing went away. But for the next four years I had numbness in my face and hands the week after my period, the first week I had a new ring in. During that week my doctor prescribed me to double the amount of prozac and it cured most of the numbness and nausea. Yet taking more prozac seemed to really affect my short term memory.

Last November 2008, I decided to ween myself off of the anti-depressant. By January I was totally off of Prozac. It is now February 16th 2009 and it is the week after period and just got a new ring. Today I am experiencing major numbness in my face, hands, and legs. I am having terrible headaches, vision problems and have no energy. After reading all the posts tonight I realized that all these years I have been on the Nuvaring I have mistaken its side-effects for other medications side-effects. I am really trying to cleanse my body of medication b/c my stress level and lifestyle has changed.

I want to go to the doctor and discuss other alternatives since I feel terrible and have been on this for so long. If I hadn't had gone off the other medications I never would have associated my symptoms with the NuvaRing. But now it all makes sense.

I have only tried the pill a couple of times in my life and the side effects were too much for me to handle. My OB suggested the nuvaring. I've been on it for a year and a half and I'm glad I found this sight. I've experienced the 2 week heavy periods, fatigue, weight gain, the headaches, I had unexplained swelling in my groin area, severe depression and anxiety (which my doctor dismissed as she stated she never heard of anxiety being associated with the ring). I'm glad that I'm not the only one. I'm getting married in November and plan to stop using it then. My general practioner put me on prozac because the anxiety got so bad. I'm lucky that my fiance is a patient and loving person and that this craziness hasn't driven him away.

Oh man, the NuvaRing is the devil! I just realized it caused me to gain about 20 lbs., be really depressed (while on Prozac even!), and made me have even worse acne than when I was 16! I've been on it for almost 2 years and I just took it out... for good! Thanks to this website I realized I wasn't crazy! I'm pretty pissed because it had so much potential. Oh well.

I began NuvaRing about 6 months ago. I use one every three weeks, followed by another and only have a period once every nine weeks. When I first started it, I had trouble with terrible cystic acne that took FOREVER to go away. Along the 2-3 week on the ring, I became incredbily tired. I was very edgy, irritable, moody. My sex drive plummeted. I am naseous - no vomiting, though. I have terrible allergies anyway, but I also got a bad rash on my arms. I have polycystic Ovarian syndrome, and I need the BC to couteract the PCOS. Well, NuvaRIng has been the best I have tried. I have tried Yasmin, OrthoEvra, Seasonale, among others. Not to mention no pills, this one gave me the LEAST amount of mood swings....BUT, my allergist gave me a Kenalog shot to help with rash, which immediately went away (and I think helped the cystic acne), and I take Prozac to counteract the mood swings. I am not depressed and have no desire to even think about suicide, but prozac calms me. I am pleasant and even quite humorous. And the sex drive is slowly returning. The nausea is also subsiding. I decided to choose my battles. The side effects of PCOS are much worse than anything I experienced with NuvaRIng.
