Omeprazole and medication

DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG! IT IS POISON!

I have this drunk like feeling in my eyes or lightheadedness, its like you are looking to the world from camera, its been more than a year it didn't go away.

Other symptoms I had; Pressure in the head, than it got frequent in time and turned into headache, confusion, not being able to focus, drunk like feeling of the eyes, blurred vision, tingling under feet, ringing in ears and my stomach got worse instead of getting better.

Here is my story; I had high blood pressure and was using atenolol and had pains around my chest. I went to doctor and found out it was related with my stomach so I started Omeprazole 20mg and used it for 6 months.

During this period I was trying to get off atenolol as I didn't want to use any drugs anymore. So I stopped using atenolol but after 3 months I was having pressure in my head, it got more frequent in time turned into lightheadedness (what i mean is that eyes feel like being drunk, blurry and not able to focus well and in time, its like looking to the world from camera). I was thinking that this feeling is related with stopping of medication for blood pressure so I kept on using omeprazole for 6 months. During this time this drunk like feeling got more frequent and after a year now its everyday.

Because I had this dizzy feeling I started blood pressure medication again this time different drug but the drunk feeling didn't go away so I understood it wasn't related with my blood pressure. I went and done all the checkups nothing was found.

Almost a year has passed over using omeprazole now. I was feeling better by time and this drunk like feeling was getting better in time. Recently I got stomach problems again and started using Omeprazole again and blurred, foggy, drunk like feeling, tingling under feet, ringing ears, symptoms got worsen again, plus it didn't give me relief of my stomach even made it worse, so now I understand these symptoms are all related with this Omeprazole.

How come these drugs can exist and they can be prescribed. I am having horrible year because of this feeling and because of this drug. DO NOT EVER USE IT. I will sue these companies who produce this drug!!!

Stay away from this !!!!!!. I took this for 2.5 months and during the middle of it I started to feel nausea and fatigue. I than started to get light headed during the day for no reason. I started to relate the pills to my symptoms and stopped. I have been off for 2 months now and I still experience light hotheadedness. It is now just starting to get better. Hopefully this will go totally away over time?
I also believe this brought on Anxiety as well?
Anyone else experience this?

How long do the side effects stay with you?? I have been off for 3 weeks now and still experience light headed and fogginess. Is this normal? Everything else has tested normal. Please Reply

Got prescribed Omeprazole for an upset stomach that was causing me to vomit a strange black substance which the gp put down to some sort of bleeding in the stomach, shortly after taking my first tablet i was violently sick, had a really bad fever, sweating and later that evening noticed a blotchy red rash under the arms, on the tops of my legs and down each side of my body.

I am almost 100% sure that it was the medication that caused these symptoms

I have been on omeprazole for 2 months. I noticed I would get dizzy and hot flashes. I quit taking it and have been off for 7 days. I'm wondering how long it takes for these side effects to stop?? I feel light headed all the time sometimes I feel good and then I get dizzy again?? Please Respond??

I have been taking Omeprazole for 2 months! I did experience relief from my acid reflux. Here are my side effects: Extremely dry mouth, blurred vision, itchy eyes that feel like sandpaper. My eyes are extremely sensitive to light. Just two days ago I woke up with spider like webs that appear in the front of my eyes. My eye doctor told me that the fat-like jelly substance in my eyes has torn to cause this effect in my eyes. I also see quick flashes of light. My eye doctor says this is a side effect of this medication. My whole body feels like all the acid in my whole body has dried up!

I will no longer take this medication. I will find alternative help for my acid reflux! I do not want to lose my eyesight!

My husband has been taking Omeprazole for about ten years now. About nine months ago he went in for a endoscopy and the doctor said she wanted to increase the omeprazole of 20mg 2xdaily because of the acid reflux. Several weeks after increasing this drug, my husband began getting very depressed. He losted all interest in our business and started having severe mood swings. He couldn't sleep at night, screaming with cramps in his legs, heart palpitations, blurred vision, ringing in ears, hot flashes, headaches behind the eyes. Some night I thought he was having a heart attack. It only got worse, hallucination began and horrible nightmares. He thought I was putting drugs and poison in his food. and felt like the world was against him. He became very violent toward me because of the hallucinations. We went for a follow up at his doctor and she suggested a psychiatry. Of course, my husband refused because he felt nothing was wrong, it was everyone else with the problem. His attacks got so bad, it was happen everyday, all day. We have two small children and we decided to split up for the children sake. My husband left for a week and when he left he refused to take the Omeprazole. He called me during that week and said he has felt great, he was able to sleep, no anxiety. He said to me if you are not putting drugs in my drink and food..it's got to be the omerprazole.
Of course the doctors said it's not possible...he has been off these pills for 8 days and it's unreal how this symptoms has disappeared. He is still having some side effects and withdraws. I don't know how long this will be in his system but I hope it goes away soon. THIS IS A DEVIL DRUG. He almost took his life and my too over OMEPRAZOLE. My doctor recently wrote this drug for me but I will not take it... We would never know about how serious this little pill for heartburn was if we didn't research it. When you get this drug from the pharmacy, they only list some side effects and not the serious one...How many more people out in the world is dealing with this same problem and not aware of these serious side effect. This almost destroyed our lives. WE NEED TO TAKE SOME KIND OF ACTION, SO THESE SERIOUS SIDE EFFECT HAVE TO BE LISTED..

I had all the problems that you people describe and I have been off the medication for 3 months and I still have a little light headiness. I found out that after eating a meal take a little kosher pickle and you will find your acid reflux not bothering you at all. You can try a teas. of Raw Organic Apple Cidar Vinegar after every meal. I take 1/4 teas. and have no problems. I can eat anything and as much as I want with no reflux. I have Barrett's Asophegus and I'm 79 yrs old. If this works for you I would not tell your doctor because he will just laugh at you but it works and it is worth a try to get off of that medication. According to FDA omeprazole is poison and a little every day will give you death.

I have been taking the generic Omeprazole for about 12 days. First few days i had no symptoms whatsoever. I thought i was in heaven, until now. I am now suffering from lower back pain, shooting pains through out my upper body, chest pressure, stiff neck, and head pressure through out the whole day. It's funny that this medicine will cure one symptom but will give you many others.

I was on 40mg Pantoprazole for a year, and then the Doctor suggested I start to take 20mg of Omeprozole twice a day.

I've only been on it for three weeks now, and I've asked to come off it because it's not helping as much as the pantoprozle. I wake up in the morning and I just feel ill.

I've also been miserable, and i've been finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning, and even wake up. I was blaming this on glandular fever that I had earlier this year. But then I started thinking it might be something to do with the change in medication.

As well as tiredness, and acute depression, I've been irrational, extremely itchy, my skin has broken out in spots (mostly face, thighs and neck/chest area). My vision has also started to blur slightly, which I thought was just over use of computers (because i'm a graphic designer).

Once I switch back to Pantoprozole I'll start to see if these symptoms were the Omeprozole, which I think they are.

Been on omeprazole for a week now and have awful gas. Also a headache at times anyone else suffering fro severe gas.

I have been taking Omeprazole since December 2007 now so 2 and a half months.

I had the dose increased to 40mg 3 weeks ago as 20mg wasn't curing the burning in my throat.

For a few weeks now i have had increasing vertigo/dizziness and palpitations. I only linked the 2 to the medication just yesterday, googled it just now and confirmed my suspicions to the Omeprazole.

Now my question to myself is do i come off the tablets and endure the misery of my acid reflux? surely there must be something else we can take for our stomach problems that don't cause these awful side effects.
Anyone tried anything else that worked and didn't make them unwell?

I have had diarrhea and a constant headache on one side of my head since starting Omeprazole. I've taken Tylenol and even migraine medication but this just eased the pain. It is 24 hours a day. I think I'd rather take a chance with the heartburn.

my symptoms were with Prevacid, I believe that these drugs all have the same dangerous side effect. It started with extreme weakness, numbness and pins and needles in my legs and arm. Now after 9 weeks of stopping the Prevacid I feel shaky and tremors. I take b-12 injections because it seemed to have depleted me of my normal b-12 levels. I am hoping this is the problem and will improve . until than my doctor has me going to a neurologist to assure it is nothing else . mri of brain is normal and thyroid is normal. HOW LONG UNTIL THESE SYMPTOMS SUBSIDE , PLEASE TELL ME THEY WILL GO AWAY.

I was on Prilosec for 3 days, then switched to Aciphex for one day. Within hours after starting the medication, I was extremely drowsy, dizzy, and just "out of it." I also have dry mouth and facial numbness. The side effects are pretty incapacitating, and the most distressing thing is that I stopped the meds 5 days ago, yet the symptoms persist. My doctor has run a series of tests to rule out other problems, and agrees this may be a bad reaction to Prilosec. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this, and if so, how long until the side effects went away?

I started taking this medication ten years ago i wish they would have given it to me sooner for years i suffered from heartburn they called me the relaid kid and in my later years mostly at night while sleeping my food would come back up then i would inhale into my lungs and i thought i was a gonner it was acid reflux thanks to this medication i have been heartburn free for ten years and i can eat just about anything.it does give me some mild stomach pain but its a lot better than having heartburns day and night

Terrible ringing in both ears, low B 12. Have been taking this drug for severe GERD for about 5 months. Does any one know if Prilosec has the same negative side effects that I've had or have been reading about on this forum.

I have been taking Omeprazole for two weeks. About one week into it, I started getting daily headaches that would start shortly after waking up and last all day. I am dizzy all day and seem to have trouble focusing my eyes . I was starting to get worried that there might be something wrong with me, but beginning to think it's probably the Omeprazole. I stopped taking it yesterday. Anybody know how long for the side effects to go away after stopping the medication?

I have been taking Omeprazole for about 2 months and since the start of taking it I have had stomach cramps that range from slight discomfort to buckling pain that is almost unbearable, my hands and feet swell weekly and it was substantial enough for my wife to notice without question, also I have been experiencing nausea more frequently and more severe the longer I continue to take the medicine, I have occasional joint pain most often at night making it sometimes impossible to sleep, I've struggled with depression before and am not sure if the medicine is causing it or not but my wife says she has noticed a change in my attitude since being on Omeprazole, As far as other side effects I have developed a rash on my inner thigh that seems to coincide with starting the medication, also I have had sharp headaches behind my eyes probably about twice a week lasting anywhere from ten minutes to half the day

I have been taking OMEprazole for approximately 2.5 months and recently I feel dizzy to the point I want to get a doctor appointment to have an MRI or CT scan on my head - my fear is that I have a brain tumor. I feel dizzy as if I am going to pass out, occassional sharp pains in my head and I feel sick to my stomach. I also feel extremely tired and recently like the left side of my body is weak.

I am going to stop taking Omeprazole today to see if this is the side effect of the medicine. Anyone have similar experiences. If so, how soon do they stop after you stop taking the medicine? I was concinced I had a brain tumor - not so sure now.

PS I am a very healthy 50 year old who is a marathon runner. Lately I have sucked on my runs due to exhaustion.

I have taking Omep,Losec, or Domparion??? for the last 3 yrs. The major side effect for all 3 have been knee and calf cramps after going to bed. The morning starts with the cramps, and they are getting more frequent. I place a ice pack on the area, and it subsides for awhile. Hot baths seem to inflame the area. Any suggestions??? The acid refux is gone. I have taken myself off the medication, and the AR returns with a vengence. Interesting about the comment re: generic drugs, I hope you are wrong, as the insurance company that we have will only pay for the generic. When on group plan, I didn't care - but now...... Anyone else experience this? I am also on Lipitor, which have the leg cramp side effects??????

After taking it for 6 days, Omeprazole caused me to suffer arthralgia. That translates to joint pain (knees, elbows, wrists, shoulders, neck, back), swelling (hands and feet), stiffness (all over), weakness (especially in the hands), and fatigue. I am having problems driving because it hurts to hold the steering wheel and exert enough pressure to turn the wheel, and overall I can barely move. I found a case study on the net that examined five other people who also got arthralgia, and the symptoms went away 10-18 days after stopping the drug. This is only my first day off Omeprazole, so I hope things will clear up for me quickly.

I have been taking omeprazole 20mg daily once for the last 9 months. After one week of taking this medication I started developing mild symptoms of dizziness, fatigue, sweating of hands, weekness of legs, panic and nervous attacks especially while driving. Slowly the symptoms became intense and now I cannot drive at all. Initially I was not aware that these are the side effects of omeprazole. I did EKG, MRI of brain, Cardiac thorough check up and tests, all normal.
Finally I traced back the time of the symptoms and the start date of this medication, it exactly coincided. Can anyone tell me if these symptoms are reversible. I have stopped taking Omeprazole.

I am 71 yrs. old and have had a lifetime of tests and medications to try to control what is now referred to as Gerd. Prilosec was prescribed several years ago and for me it was nothing short of a wonder drug. However, for the past couple of years, I have had several episodes of chest pain and pressure across my shoulders that resulted in Nuclear stress tests, ultrasound, etc., etc. All negative. Today, I had a chest x-ray and they are talking about a cat scan to follow. I have had increasing pressure in my chest, both arms go numb, and what feels like pressure or rawness in my esophagus. I have finally realized that it all coincides with my Insurance Co switch to the generic OMEPRAZOLE. That led me to your site on the internet. I think I have found the answer. Switching to the generec has been a very expensive mistake for my Insurance company. I have discontinued the medication and hope to get back to normal.

I have been on Omerprazole since 2/1/05 and have not felt normal since. I get chest pains, and a anxious or nervousness feeling. I have had CT scans, ultrasounds, EKG, all normal. I haven't experienced these symptoms prior to taking the medication. I have noticed on this site that a lot of people have had better experiences with Prilosec, I am calling my Dr. ASAP to make the change, hope it helps, I am eager to feel like myself again.

I have been taking Omeprazole 20 mg since 3/8/04. I have decided that is what is causing my chest to cramp. It is so bad I can't lay down for about 30 min. when the cramps occur. It is very painful! It has happened twice and both times right after I had gone to bed. It happened on March 23 and then again on the 28th. I have been getting a few pains in my chest tonight. How could this medication be good for you, if it causes such pain? I'm not going to take it anymore!

I have been taking Prilosec for several years without any side effects..My husband picked up script for me at pharmacy. They were out of Prilosec and filled script with Omerprazole. I have been taking this med for about a month now. Recently I have noticed muscle spasms, heart palpitations, headaches, night sweats. I asked the pharmacist yesterday if this could be related to this medication. She stated that yes this could be related. I will be switching back to Prilosec ASAP.

My husband was on Prilosec for several years, and switched to Omeprazole by our prescription plan. I don't know if the medication is the cause, but he started experiencing chest pain, and occasional shortness of breath, not the same as the acid reflux discomfort. He went to the Dr. and was tested by blood tests, EKG and chest x-ray. All were normal, so stress thallium test was ordered. He passed the stress test with no problem, but had a small abnormality on the thallium scan. He was referred to a cardiologist because of this and a heart cath was performed, also normal so thallium scan was a false positive. The cardiologist changed his medication to Nexium. Could this all be due to switching to Omeprazole? I don't know, but the timing is suspicious.

My 14 y/o Dgt was just Rx Omeprazole, she has never been on this med or Prilosec before, its a switch from Zantac. She has been on it not even a full 48 hours, today she c/o of increase abd pain which she has not before,(i.e she always has epigastric pain and due to an endscopy that is why her med. has been switch to the above.) but today her pain increase reading all these comments now makes me wonder, can you have a reaction that occurs that quick? how long should I wait to inform her G.I. MD that there may be a problem? also how long does it take for this medication to take effect? i.e. when will her pain go away?

I was taking Prilosec for 3 yrs. Two weeks I was switched to Omeprazole.(per my insurace company). I started noticing facial itching. My eyes became puffy. I know I'm having a reaction to this medication. Calling the doctor tomorrow and switching back to Prilosec.

My husband was put on prilosec for heartburn relief 3 years ago. After being on the medication for a few months he experienced erectile dysfunction and his blood pressure went haywire (actually getting too low). The doctor switched him to Prevacid - he has no problems since that time.
