Omeprazole and zantac

i had been on zoton for at least 7 years to treat a stomach erosion up until a year ago and my gp upped the dose last year but then i was having terrible wind and then developed i.b.s so they put me on 20 mg of omeprazole i was o/k for a few months and it started again so i recently visited my gp who increased the dosage and the wind and pain again with i.b.s was terrible so he added another tablet for the i.b.s which didn't do anything by now i got so fed up that i went off both tablets and put myself on zantac at the moment the pain and i.b.s symptoms are slowly going away i will in a weeks time be seeing my gp to report my findings as i am pretty sure that omeprazole and its similar compounds are to blame

I have been on omeprazole for 2 months. I noticed I would get dizzy and hot flashes. I quit taking it and have been off for 7 days. I'm wondering how long it takes for these side effects to stop?? I feel light headed all the time sometimes I feel good and then I get dizzy again?? Please Respond??

Extremely tired , dizzy , as the one poster said Pain in one side of my head.Awful feeling like I am not walking straight.Stomach pain the first few days I started it.I think I will switch back to my OTC Zantac.

I have been taking Omeprazole since December 2007 now so 2 and a half months.

I had the dose increased to 40mg 3 weeks ago as 20mg wasn't curing the burning in my throat.

For a few weeks now i have had increasing vertigo/dizziness and palpitations. I only linked the 2 to the medication just yesterday, googled it just now and confirmed my suspicions to the Omeprazole.

Other feeling i have had since taking this medication...

Severe dizziness
vertigo
palpitations
headaches/migraines
weakness
fatigue
sweating
nausea
bloating
stomach cramps
visual problems
intolerance to bright lights
aching joints
chest pain

Now my question to myself is do i come off the tablets and endure the misery of my acid reflux? surely there must be something else we can take for our stomach problems that don't cause these awful side effects.
Anyone tried anything else that worked and didn't make them unwell?

My 14 y/o Dgt was just Rx Omeprazole, she has never been on this med or Prilosec before, its a switch from Zantac. She has been on it not even a full 48 hours, today she c/o of increase abd pain which she has not before,(i.e she always has epigastric pain and due to an endscopy that is why her med. has been switch to the above.) but today her pain increase reading all these comments now makes me wonder, can you have a reaction that occurs that quick? how long should I wait to inform her G.I. MD that there may be a problem? also how long does it take for this medication to take effect? i.e. when will her pain go away?

MY INFANT SON WAS ON ZANTAC THEY NOW HAD SWITCHED HIM TO OMEPRAZOLE THEY SAID IT IS A LITTLE STRONGER AND SHOULD HELP HIM A LITTLE BETTER. IF ANYONE HAS AN INFANT ON THIS PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF IT HELPED OOR ANYTHING I SHOULD WORRY ABOUT. THANK YOU

I took prescribed Losec (omeprazole) to control occasional heartburn for two years. After taking 20mg per day for 2 to 3 days I notice an occasional skipped heartbeat. I stop taking omeprazole and within 1-2 days this side-effect goes away. Two weeks later, I take omeprazole and go through the same cycle. I have thus experimented for two years before switching to zantac. There is no doubt in my mind that Losec causes temporary arrythmia and heart patients should be thus warned.
