my 3 year old was prescribed this for an ear infection.
He took one dose at noon, and by 2am (14 hours later)
the bad reactions set in....
Diarrhea and constant vomitting for 6 hours.
I did not, and REFUSE to give him a 2nd dose.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION!

It's the 8th day our 3 year old child has been using Omnicef (after a 10-day amoxicilin that didn't work), and it's been only getting worse and worse. No you're not crazy, she is complaining about leg pain. She is constantly crying and she usually never cries or even whines. So this must be definitely a side-effect of this drug. We will cut this drug off today (will not complete 10 days) and will tell our doctor about all this. However, they usually don't take complaints seriously when we mention we read it on the Internet. On the contrary, we're getting real complaints from real people with real pain.

My 3 year-old son is on Omnicef for a mild ear infection. He developed brick-red stool after two days or so. Glad to see others are experiencing the same thing. No other behavior changes or side effects, and he seems to be feeling better. Aside from the scary color, I would give it to him again.

My 3 year old was prescribed Omnicef for an ear infection. After the 1st dose he began waking at night with "Night Terrors". I called the doctor's office and they said that this was not a side effect and is common for this age. We continued to give him the medicine and his "Night Terrors" continued every night and every time he woke up from a nap. After the third day of Omnicef he started to become nervous and scared and not as nice as he usually was. He was afraid of the dark and did not want to go to bed. On the fifth day of medication he had 3 episodes of which he was so scared that he was screaming, and shaking and said he was "having a bad dream" but he was awake. I asked him what was in his dream and he pointed to the window and said "there is a monster out there". It was horrible! I called the doctor after the first episode and the nurse said that this was not one of the side effects and to continue the medicine. However, my husband and I decided not to give him any more Omnicef. We told the nurse that we didn't care if it wasn't a side effect and that it was too coincidental that this started exactly when he started taking Omnicef. The doctor would not call in a different antibiotic but said 5 days of Omnicef should be enough for his ear infection and he will see our son in three days for a recheck. Today was the second day without Omnicef and our son seems to be getting back to his normal, happy self. He did not have any scary visions while he was awake today and tonight was the first night that he wasn't afraid to go to sleep. I only hope that it did not do any permanent damage. I think more research needs to be done on the side effects of this medication and I am going to try to contact the makers of Omnicef. I feel that if my sons mental and mood changes are a side effect then it needs to be researched before it happens to any other child. I will never let any of my children take Omnicef again.

MY 3 YEAR OLD SON WAS GIVEN OMNICEF FOR AN EAR INFECTION, HE WOKE UP THE MORNING AFTER HIS 8TH DAY OF THE 10 DAY ANITBIOTIC WITH A LITTLE BUMP ON BIG TOE. WITHIN AN HOUR I NOTICED ANOTHER BUMP ON HIS ELBOW. THEY RESEMBLED MOSQUITO BITES. WITHIN THREE HOURS HIS HANDS AND KNEES WERE VERY SWOLLEN AND HE ALSO HAD SEVERAL MORE BUMPS ON HIS FACE AND ARMS. I TOOK HIM STRIAGHT INTO THE DR BECASUE WE WERE ALREADY IN TOWN. THEY SAID IT WAS A REACTION TO THE OMNICEF. WITHIN ABOUT 30 MINUTES AT THE PEDIATRICIANS OFFICE AND HIM HAVING HIS SHOES OFF, HIS FEET SWELLED ENOUGH THAT I COULDN'T PUT HIS SHOES BACK ON. THIS ALL STARTED ON MONDAY MORNING. BY TUESDAY EVENING HE WAS COMPLETELY COVERED IN HUGE WELPS AND THERE WERE CIRCLE SHAPED WELPS OVER THE ALREADY VERY RED SWOLLEN WELPS. I TOOK HIM BACK IN BECASUE HIS SKIN APPEARS TO BE BRUISING AND HIS EYES ARE SO DARK. HE IS ITCHING AND HIS SKIN HURTS HE SAYS. BENADRYL IS HELPING BUT FOR ONLY A FEW HOURS AT A TIME. THE PEDIATRICIAN SAYS IT IS REALLY BAD HIVES AND COULD LAST FOR UP TO 6 WEEKS. MY LITTLE GUY IS IN WAY MORE PAIN THAN BEFORE THE OMNICEF EVEN WITH HIS EAR INFECTION. HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY DIAREAH OR STOMACH PAIN THE FIRST 8 DAYS, THIS JUST CAME ON SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. NEVER AGAIN WILL ANY MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY USE OMNICEF.

My 3 year old and my 19 month old are on Omnicef for strep throat. Both have been cranky since starting the antibiotic. My 3 year old son is who is usually very happy and easy going is a monster. Throwing things, slamming doors, disagreeing with everything. My 19 month old daughter has been having a lot of trouble sleeping and has also been very cranky. They took their last dose this morning and right before lunch my 19 month old broke out in a rash, starting on her legs (looks like tiny pimples). When she woke up from her afternoon nap, she seemed to be constipated. She was straining and contoring her body like she had cramps. She was crying and straining so much I though she was going to vomit. We put her in the tub to see if a warm bath would help with the cramps. She rolled around in the tub in pain (crying the whole time). When we took her out, she didn't want to be touch. She didn't want anything to touch her skin (not even a towel). While we were on the phone with the nurse line trying to decide if we should take her to the emergency room, she stopped crying and decided she wanted a fruit cup. This is some bad stuff. Avoid it.

My 3 year old took 3rd dose tonight before bed. Prescribed for sinus infection. Woke up repeatedly, crying and calling our names and having conversations in his sleep both nights on this med. Very strange behaviours. Seems to be affecting his nervous system and brain in ways I am not comfortable with. Will discontinue immediately. Would encourage others to discontinue use quickly when experiencing adverse symptoms.
