I'm a 26 year old male and I'm on my 5th day of Omnicef (Cefdinir). As I have a Staph infection, there is no visability of improvement, but the following are my side affects so far.
Diarrea for the first three days, somewhat upset stomach, increased urge to urinate, somewhat decrease in moral, slight change in appetite and mild trouble sleeping. I noticed there were many children and older people postings so I wanted to represent my age bracket.

My 2 year old son has been on Omnicef for 5 days now, and for the past 3 has been miserable and cranky. He has had a tummy ache and trouble sleeping, and diarrea that seems to be getting worse. Omnicef was prescribed for him for a double ear infection, but the side effects caused by this medication seem to be worse at least equal to the symptoms of the infection itself. Tomorrow we will go back to his Dr. to see what our alternatives are.

My 12 month old son developed diarrhea after three 125mg doses of Omnicef. He also has insomnia and is wiped out from not getting enough sleep and the diarrhea combined. He developed a rash on the neck, hairline, around the ears, and some on the trunk shortly after the diarrhea began. He had way more energy despite the diagnosed sinus infection and 102-103 degree fever before taking Omnicef. He also slept through the entire night peacefully despite the fever before taking the medication. This was much nicer for everybody as were the normal diapers before Omnicef. He is now more sick from the medicine. What a contradiction, and what a game of roulet we have to play. Without the antibiotics, I suppose an ear infection might have developed, but maybe I'll just wait on the antibiotics next time when the only symptom he has is a fever.

My 3 year old and my 19 month old are on Omnicef for strep throat. Both have been cranky since starting the antibiotic. My 3 year old son is who is usually very happy and easy going is a monster. Throwing things, slamming doors, disagreeing with everything. My 19 month old daughter has been having a lot of trouble sleeping and has also been very cranky. They took their last dose this morning and right before lunch my 19 month old broke out in a rash, starting on her legs (looks like tiny pimples). When she woke up from her afternoon nap, she seemed to be constipated. She was straining and contoring her body like she had cramps. She was crying and straining so much I though she was going to vomit. We put her in the tub to see if a warm bath would help with the cramps. She rolled around in the tub in pain (crying the whole time). When we took her out, she didn't want to be touch. She didn't want anything to touch her skin (not even a towel). While we were on the phone with the nurse line trying to decide if we should take her to the emergency room, she stopped crying and decided she wanted a fruit cup. This is some bad stuff. Avoid it.

Omnicef has done a great job on a persistent throat and sinus infection. However, I have trouble sleeping due to the vivid nightmares it has given. I quit taking it for two days and the nightmares stopped. Back on it and they came back.
