I'd like to start off by saying though many people have had some very bad reactions to this medication, that it is not a reason for it to be taken off the market. everyones body's have different reactions to different medications and while for some it may be a very negative reaction, for others it may be a very good or significant one. I'm 17 years old and currently taking Omnicef for a sinus infection. I am having side effects but the fact is a few days ago I was miserably sick, and now I am feeling significantly better. so though I am having side effects, the benefit of this medication, or at least for me, is that my sinus infection is most definitely getting better. my side effects have been gas and nausea (which I usually have regardless from GERD), bad dreams and restless sleep, and this is quite odd but fowl smelling urine and body odor. I haven't read about anyone else noticing body odor after taking it though so if someone has noticed this can you please let me know? thank you.

My 24 month old daughter was prescribed Omnicef for a sinus infection. She began waking up multiple times in the night screaming. She acts like she is in pain, but won't tell you what hurts. She freaks out when you touch her when she wakes up like that. She also appears to be hallucinating and we're not really sure she is even waking up. She has had 4 doses and now the mood changes have gone into the day hours. We have contacted the doctor and they agree with us that she should stop taking the medication. We cannot confirm the bowel movement side effects because she has not had one in 2 days. We checked the side effects insert from Omnicef last night when things were bad and nothing was on it about nightmares. I understand that not all children react the same to medications, but there are too many with the same reactions to overlook this.

My Mom is 57 years old was given Omnicef in November of 2006. She stopped taking it after she began bleeding and diareha within 4 days of taking this medication. Since then she has been in and out of the hosipital and even trips in an Ambulance from her legs swelling. She has had one doctor tell her that they believe it to be caused from the Omnicef. Now they have her on Pretizone because they think that it started Rhumetoid Arthiritis. She is on three other medications for this and she still is in pain when she walks. It takes her over an hour to get out of bed in the morning and for the swelling in the ankles and legs to go down after she takes the medication. The doctors seem to be doing a lot of guess work right now. I would like to find her a new doctor at the Cleveland Clinic but since the doctor's are unsure of what is wrong with her, I have no idead what type of specialist I need to contact to get her an appointment.

My son is 11 months old and was prescribed Omnicef about two weeks ago for an ear infection. He has had several and been on a few different other medications that have successfully gotten rid of his infections. Immediately after starting the medication he was constantly crying and very irritable. He has slept through the night since he was 6 weeks old and when on the medication he would wake up at nihgt after only being asleep for 20 or 30 minutes and scream. he would act very angry or sometimes just look in a scary daze. He also had terrible diarrhea. After a week of being on the meds I took him back to the doctor and she casually said to take him off, because he "could" be reacting. As soon as I took him off he began taking naps again and sleeping through the night. He was MUCH happier. Now, howeverI am noticing a grayish tint on his baby teeth, which I am positive is because of the medication. I take wonderful care of his baby teeth-I know they are not rotten or decayed. Has this happened to anyone else?

I am a 16 year old girl and I started taking Omnicef 9 days ago, for a soar throat due to the flu. After 3 days I developed diarrhea, and the stools were softned and red. I called the doctor and was told that if I had been taking vitamins or other medications with iron that it would turn the stools red. I was taking vitamins that contained it, so I stopped. Although my stools are no long red, I still have diarrhea. I also experienced severe lower back pains while on this. I have talked to my parents and we decided it was best for me to stop taking the medication, due to my back. I really hope my side effects get better soon.

My 16 y.o. daughter is taking Omnicef for the first time, 2 capsules each morning. Since starting the antibiotic she has experienced shaking hands, a slightly elevated pulse and BP, weak feeling legs and the feeling that her heart is beating out of her chest. I cannot say for sure this is what is causing it, but she isn't taking any other medications. She is feeling well otherwise. I appreciate this site as it is pointing to side effects not listed in the official literature. Thank you.

I was diagnosed with severe sinusitis a week ago, and my doctor prescribed omnicef for me since I was allergic to PENICILLIN. After the first day on Omnicef, I felt fine, perhaps a little better. As days continued to pass, however, I began to get some horrible reactions. They started out mild, and now (after taking it for the seventh day) I have major tongue and gland swelling in addition to a horrible headache and weakness. I've felt close to fainting several times throughout the past several days. I went through a random bout of depression a couple days ago, too, and there was no reason why. I feel more irritable, but I've been attempting to control it. I haven't lashed out wrongly at my loved ones yet, but I've come pretty close. I have some pain in my lower abdomen (where the intestines are located) as well, but only when I walk in a quick manner. No diarrhea, yet, but I think that's because I normally have digestion problems (constipation). Some of the joints in my hands are acting funny. They aren't as strong as usual, and they've been going numb/cold more often, causing their movements to be a little slower/stalled.
I'm seventeen, and when my mom contacted the doctor yesterday, the doctor said that "these aren't allergies/side effects" of this medication, and that I need to continue taking them. So I took them again yesterday (the seventh day), and that's when the swelling of the tongue and glands in my throat took place. When my mom called today and notified the doctor of that issue, the doctor said that..oh, how was that worded... That "it's the first time I've had this reaction" (while on this medication), and that it isn't caused by that medication but from something else. I'm sorry, but I'm not taking any other medications, and I haven't eaten anything strange/new that would cause me these difficulties. It's definitely the medication.
I'm done with this medication. After doing research on it this morning, I've learned that at least ten percent of those allergic to penicillin is also allergic to omnicef, and I'm allergic to penicillin. Why my doctor is being so stubborn about these reactions, I don't know. I guess this is just an example of a doctor who isn't well-educated and sticks ONLY to the side-effects/allergic reactions listed on the prescription bottle. If problems persist, my mom will take me to another doctor. For now, I'm going to stick to the Neti pod and nasal spray to try to rid me of my sinusitis. Maybe it'll work out alright and my problems from this medication will go away quickly. I'm sick of being sick all summer.
