Omnicef and perscribed

My 20 month old son was perscribed Omnicef for a persistant ear infection. Two days after he started the medication, our sweet little boy turned into the Demon Child, that wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink, wouldn't sleep, would scream with terror, or pain every 20 minutes...

He had loose stools as well, but since he wouldn't eat or drink that only happened about once a day.

We took him to the hospital and they ran tests, but could find anything wrong, "It must be the pain of the ear infection..."

My wife and I were going crazy with him, and didn't know what else to do but love him and not try to kill each other from lack of sleep.

About a day after the medication was finished he started to eat again, and within 48 hours he was sleeping though the night. As a matter of fact he could not get enough to eat. He was going to gain back the 5 pounds he lost ASAP.

The real kick in the pants is that he still had an ear infection in both ears and ended getting tubes in his ears two weeks later.

We are taking the precaution to never let him take cephalosporin derivatives again.

I can't believe that the manufacturer of this drug does not list these behavioral reactions in the small print. It would have saved us a lot of heartache if we had known and could have discontinued the drug.

My son who is 11 years old who is allergic to pennicellian was perscribed Omnicef 300 mg twice a day for 10 days. On day number 8 he broke out in severe hives. I researched Omnicef and it is not recommended for people with allergic reactions to Ominicef.

I'm a 21 year old male with a history of mild IBS.

I was perscribed omnicef this morning. 4 hours later: non-stop brutal diahhrea. I'm going to ask to be taken off this drug immediately

I am 46 and was perscribed Omnicef for a sinus infection. I had surgery the next day and did not realize I was having side effects from Omnicef. I have horrible pain in my stomach, entire body has rash and my skin hurts/burns, especially on the back of my calves and my bottom. My face swelled and my neck swelled. My eyes are very swollen. It has been 3 weeks and the side effects have not gone away. I did not know there were such horrible side effects. My doctor has done blood work and urine tests. I do not have the results yet. I will never take this medicine again.

My 2.5 year old son was put on Omnicef for sinus infection/tonsilitis. He is now done with it and we made it through but his behavior for those 10 days changed SO dramatically, I decided to retroactively look up side effects. What I am seeing here is a lot of parents describing the same thing (besides the ever present diarrhea) - the nightmares, waking screaming, but beyond just cranky as with other illness- and he's had pneumonia already- lashing out, really angry. My mother in law suggested maybe the medication had something to do with it and I thought she was reaching too far,but now, I'm not sure. If I were to be perscribed it again, I would request an alternative.

This is the second time in about a month and a half, that my pediatrician has perscribed Omnicef for my 10 mo. old daughter, and both times it either did not clear up the primary infection or caused a secondary infection. Besides not curing what it was supposed to, the drug caused a bad yeast infection and severe diarrhea. It's very difficult to clear up a yeast infection when you can't keep the area dry! I don't like this drug, and I will not let my daughter take it again.

I was perscribed omnicef for a sore throat, upper respiratory infedtion. after only two days of 10 day course of treatment, I noticed SEVERE lower abdominal crapping. It was positively dibilitating. I imediately suspected the medication and promptly discontinued it's use. I'd rather take my chances with the flu!
