I had a horrible experience with this one. I was switched to ovcon from ortho-novum to help with breakthrough bleeding. Over the years, I taken probably about 5 different brands of birth control pills and I NEVER had such a bad experience as this. I didn't connect it with ovcon at first because when I started ovcon, I was also stopping a series of antidepressant medications that I'd been taking for years but finally felt stable enough to do without. Everything that happened as a result I thought was due to stopping the antidepressants but I'm suspecting it was all due to ovcon.

I took ovcon for 5 months. Besides nausea, I had MAJOR bloating and water retention and HUGE weight gain. I felt like I wasn't even in my own body but a strangers. Appetite shot way up. I was never full, no matter how much I ate. I got terrible swelling in my ankles and fingers and feet. Breasts felt huge. All I wanted to do was eat. Depression and ennui set in. I had mood swings like you wouldn't believe. I assumed this was due to stopping treatment with antidepressants, but I'd never had such mood swings even before seeking treatment for my depression. Libido nonexistent.

It worked for helping control the breakthrough bleeding but hardly was it worth it with all these side effects. The swelling finally sent me to the doctor, it was so uncomfortable. Dr. could find nothing wrong--blood pressure, blood tests, urine sample all normal. She decided to try switching birth control.

I'm my third day on LoEstrin now, and I feel tons better. Having major peeing now it seems my body is ridding itself of excess water. Body beginning to feel like my own again. Appetite back to normal--I get full again like I should! Mood much improved and libido hasn't been this strong in ages.

Ovcon was definitely not for me.

I have been on Ovcon 35 for 4 months. Put on it for continuous use to prevent endometriosis. I had minor symptoms before the pill. I experienced spotting and breakthrough bleeding most of the months for at least 2 weeks per month. I could live with that if I really had to , althought very annoying. I have had slowly progressing depression (including insomnia, irritability and memory loss)until finally I had a manic depressive episode where I had suicidal thoughts. It took 2 days for the "fog" to clear and to realize that it was the damn pill. I stopped it immediately, obviously this is not a side effect I care to deal with. Feeling better already!!

I am finishing up the active pills for my second month this Sunday. I began the pills the sunday after my period, and about a week later I began cramping badly and bleeding heavily. The heavy bleeding lasted only a few days, but I continue to "spot" through the entire month, everyday. I did have a heavier flow during the last part of the pack. I guess that was my period? It finally stopped when I began the new pack, but I the same cycle continued this month. The term breakthrough bleeding does not do it justice. It is more of a brownish red, thick discharge or a deep purple stringy gel. Cramps are random, some nights I will wake up with horrible cramps but not be bleeding heavily. I also have severe back pain about once a week.

This is my sixth month of Ovcon 35, and I've had breakthrough bleeding after the ninth pill of every pack. This breakthrough bleeding, as they like to call it, is really exactly the same as a period. Cramps, breast tenderness, skin breakouts, bloating, etc. I have nine days of peace, then the rest of the month is all period. I called my gyn two months ago and she told me to give it another two months. I will call her again, and I hope she has a better response.

I've been on Ovcon 35 for 5 months. I had no problems with breakthrough bleeding until this month. I've been bleeding for 3 weeks! I've also had many of the other side effects mentioned by many others on this site- pain in legs, Abdominal cramping, fatigue, bloating, mood swings. I WILL be stopping these pills today. I'm 43 years old and recently married. No plans for children so my husband is getting a vasectomy. Until I read the side effects posted by other people who have taken OvCon 35, I thought I might have something seriously wrong with me but now I'm sure it's the pills! The FDA needs to take a closer look at what these pills are doing to the woman taking OvCon 35!

Ovcon 35 is my first birth control pill, given to me for severe PMS and very painful periods. I've been on it for a few weeks and have lost weight (due to a loss in appetite I've experianced fromt he pill), my breasts have gotten larger, but also veiny, and I do experiance nausea and hurting ovaries. I drink lots of water throughout the day and the nausea has slowly gone away. No bleedding yet, but it's important to remember that when your body is still adjusting, things like breakthrough bleeding happen. I haven't heard of a pill yet where people are completely satisfied. Ocvon is working well for me right now.

I have been on ovcon 50 for about 1 year and a half. I really didn't notice the weight change at first. I have gained 35 pounds over the time that I have been taking this pill. I also never really put two and two together to realize the my sex drive has really slowed down. I had switched to ovcon 50 because I had breakthrough bleeding with ortho trycylen. I am going to switch to ovcon 35 now and see how that works for me. hopefully I'll be skinnier again and getting some all the time!

I have been on Ovcon 35 for about 6 months but I have always had breakthrough bleeding in late cycle, usually about 5 days before my actual period comes. The bleeding comes in full fledge and it's heavier than my normal period before I started taking the pill. I took Alesse before but I had breakthrough bleeding as well, so the doc switched me to Ovcon thinking the higher estrogen could help with the breakthrough bleeding. Ovcon actually made my periods heavier. I have done some research and realized that if women have late cycle breakthrough bleeding, they should try something with lower estrogen and higher progestin. I'm going to switch to Yasmin and see if it works.

Wow, I really had no idea that Ovcon could create cuch problems! Due to continual breakthrough bleeding my doctor switched me off of Ortho-Cyclen onto Ovcon. Threw up the first few days, then started taking it at night. I've gained 10lbs in 4 months! My breasts are huge and tender all the time (my husband loves this, I don't). I am incredibly irritable and weepy too...never been overly emotional before! I'm also breaking out like a teenager. To add insult to injury though, I still have spotting and have gotten my period during the last week of "active" pills EVERY time! I don't know what else to try, hopefully my doctor will.

I just started Ovcon 35 (this is the 2nd week) after being switched from Yasmin. I had breakthrough bleeding with Yasmin and about a 5 lb. weight gain. Now with Ovcom 35 I keep gaining more weight! I've been exercising every day and really watching what I've been eating and every morning the scale keeps going up and my jeans just keep getting tighter. I'm contemplating just going off of this pill any day now.

I have been on Ovcon35 for 4 months now and cant wait to switch. For the first 2 months I was experiencing regular breakthrough bleeding on every Wed in the 2nd week of active pills. On top of that my periods started getting progressively lighter(2-3) days of almost nothing, and later, (last month I started on Tue, and this month I still didn;t start). I was pretty concerned until I read here that other women are experiencing similar symptoms, Another thing is the weight issue. I gained about 5lb and really struggled to keep it at only 5lb.!!!
