PredniSONE and rash on

I was prescribed Prednisone for sinusitis and bronchitis. By day three I noticed I was taking 6 pills versus the 3 prescribed. I called the pharmacist and they recommended I take 1 for each remaining day. I declined, because by then I was experiencing a lot of leg pain. I thought I had a blood clot. Now that it's day 6 I've experienced muscle and bone pain throughout my body. Last night while lying down I felt lightheaded and like I was going to blackout. My legs are weak, I feel like I'm having an outer-body experience, and I'm restless. I've gained a little weight and have a dark red/purple rash on my chest. My stomach is still bloated, but does not hurt. I hope this ends soon. God Bless you All!

My 12-year old son has been high dose prednisone for his asthma flare ups. I know that the "moon face" is common. However, since using this prednisone, he has bad acne breakouts on his forehead, cheeks, chin and even in his head. He also has broken out in a rash on his neck. Common or uncommon? There seems to be nothing to help with the acne, either.

Hi there... I have just found this site and I'm very grateful to everyone who has taken the time to sit down and tell us their story mine is very similar. BELIEAVE me I feel like I am pushing my family away and I'm losing my relationship with the one person who used to make me feel like I was the most beautiful woman in the world.
I'm a 40 yr female have or maybe had a great job that I loved... On April 12 I noticed a small red rash on my lower right leg no big deal went to the Dr. gave me some cream and sent me home well I went to work and by the afternoon things just seem to get bad my legs began to swell and little blisters started to pop up so I went to the E.R. they had no Idea what was wrong with me got me an appointment to see a skin DR. so I went home but the pain from the swelling was so bad I could not walk any longer went back to the E.R. they gave me some pain meds and called in some other DR. things had gone from bad to worse my feet had gotten to big I could not put on shoes and I had bruised completely across the bottoms of my feet they put me on 30mg of PRED. and it seem to be under control sent me home after 3 day in the hospital things were good for about a day or so I thought I would go back to work well that was not a very good idea.... My sister had to come and take me back to the ER where they did 2 biopsies and still have no idea what is wrong with me. so now they put me on 60mg of PRED the rash has gone, lots of scaring on my feet because of the blisters once they broke and dried out but I can live with that....
It's the side effects that they don’t tell you about,
MOON FACE I can't look at myself cause really that’s not me anymore,
WEIGHT GAIN I have always been thick but I can't handle the extra 30lbs I've gained,
MOOD SWINGS are unbearable,
PAINFUL JOINTS, CAMEL HUMP, BLOODY NOSE, BRUSING, SORE TEETH/GUMS, DRY EYES, FAITIGE, and worsted of all
I don’t have a support systems in my life so I'm fighting this by myself everyday, I have 3 kids that I have tried to explain all this to but they don't get it and well my boyfriend he tells me he understands that its the meds pushing him away but if I can't figure away to control this I will lose every thing including my job. I cant even get the energy together half the time to make it up and down the stairs which also comes with the pain of just trying to lift each leg up to climb the stairs, I also have the camel hump which I find very painful, The acne and the hair growth that I have to get wax off once a month cause I feel like a man I feel like a loser and as of the last couple of days I just want to give up I am now down to 20mg per day but I find that I am feeling so sick I cant think straight I hope and pray for each and every person out there that has to take this MED that you get better and I do hope that my symptoms wont come back. Thanks for being here and I’m glad I found this site. I know now that I’m not losing my mind completely. Elizabeth.

1-21-07 After 5 days of Prednisone 40mg per day (treatment for Gout), and 4 days off,

1-30-07 started back on Pred at 20mg. 1/3xday for 3 days, 1/2xday for 3 days and 1/1x for 3 days.

regular meds: Lisinipril 20mg daily, Coumadin 5mg daily (adjusted for Prednisone) and Lipitor, 20mg daily for 3 years (stopped on 1-24-07 due to Gout)

1-14-07 Symptoms: rash on lower stomach and groin area, frequent uninating (especially at night), neck and shoulder ache and
1-13-07 lab reports "liver elevated" and "irregular white blood count" (not sure if high or low).

I will appreciate any help you can offer.

I have recently experienced a rash on my chest and weight gain. My blood pressure has increased and my blood sugar has increased. My head feels sore on the upper right side. I have been getting muscle cramps in my ankles. All of this in addition to the 24 hour sweating and lower back pain and painful urinary tract. I have started experiencing sharp pain in my right testicle. I started walking my dog and had to stop after a short distance because the top of my head felt extremely hot and my vision blurred.
I am in the process of tapering off from this drug. I am taking 4 mg per day, down from an initial dose of 10mg per day.

I take 10 mg prednisone for my emphysema.Since I started taking it I have gained twenty pounds and have unusal skin rash on my face plus I become irratated at times for very little reason.Up until I started taking it I was allways skinny.I hate this stuff!!!!

hello, have been on prednisone for about 7 weeks, 30 mg a day, due to a weird rash on my leg following a very bad burn....started on leg, moved to face (badly), splotchy, itchy and crusty. Leg still isn't healed due to scratching etc, face problem stays away as long as I don't alter my intake. Getting all the usual side effects, swelling face, terrible aches in joints, sleeplessness, bad indigestion, thing is I've been to several doctors, had blood tests done for lupus,/swab/skin tissue taken from burn area, nobody knows what I may have. Please, if anyone knows anything about this condition, write here. Thank you

I have had psoriasis for 15 yrs and psoriatic arthritis for 5. After having a major flare up of psoriatic arthritis where my tendons and major joints swelled.My doctor finally decided to prescribe me something for the swelling after 4 months of not being able to walk most days. I first started with Sulfasalasine (500mg daily for 7 days, 500mg twice daily for 7 days, 500mg three times daily for 7 days, and 1000mg twice daily for 7 days). After a month my psoriasis started to flare and it looked as if i was having a rash so it was discontinued.

A week later i received a prescription for Plaquenil (200mg x2 for 14 days) and Prednisone (4x5mg) in the mail. It was a two week trial of plaquenil, and with the prednisone i was to decrease by half a pill every three days. By the end of the two weeks of plaquenil i was noticing a red blotchy rash on my chest. I contacted my doctor. 3 days later the rash had gone from my chest to my neck to my cheeks. By the 4th day i had swelling around my eyes and they were also red and blotchy, my hands were also swollen to the point where i couldnt bend them and I was having a fever and night sweats. My doctor finally contacted me on the fifth day after stopping the plaquenil, and told me to discontinue it. I went to the hospital on that day and told them i thought i was having a allergic reaction to plaquenil, they stood five feet away looked at me and said ok just keep taking the prednisone at 20 mgs for a few days. They didnt want to get involved due to the fact that i had psoriasis. But also failed to mention to me that it could be the prednisone causing this reaction also.

The next day i saw my dermatologist, she prescribed 1% hydrocorisone cream which helped with some of the dryness and pealing skin. The next day when i woke up i couldnt open my eyes, i was having shortness of breath ( im not sure if it was the panic from not being able to see) my throat felt as if i had strep throat,and the roof of my mouth felt as if i had burned it. My skin looked like a huge sunburn, the parts where i had psoriasis were very red,raw,and pealing excessively. I was admitted to the hospital for four hrs where they gave me a IV of benedryl and a steriod.My skin was so swollen they could just barely find a vein to put the IV in. After 50mg of benedry they realeased me and told me to keep taking 50mg every 4-6 hrs and they prescribed me 50mg of prednisone for 7 days. By the next day the swelling had gone down by 30% in my face, but i still looked like i had been in a fight, the pressure around my eyes was so much that i had to sleep sitting up. Of course i wasnt really able to sleep with the fear that if i closed them i wouldnt be able to open them again. They also leaking white stuff. My skin was pealing in very large sections. I was bathing in a luke warm bath with oil, which would help with the pealing of my skin but then when i came out i would be freezing cold. I would get hot flashes and then instantly cold 5 minutes later. I felt like i running a fever but my temperature was normal.

Two days later the swelling was gone in my face, but my legs, ankles and feet were abnormally swollen. My skin was still pealing and constantly itchy. My skin tone was all pink it was no longer red and blotchy, but after i would shower or bath my legs would have dark purple and blue spots on them that looked like bruises. I was unable to sleep for more then two hours straight, i would wake up feeling as if i was on fire. It took another six days for the swelling to go down fully in my legs, ankles and feet.

After taking 50mg of prednisone for 7 days I am taking 45mg for 7 days then decreasing by 1 pill every week. After taking 45 mg for 3 days my skin looks as if its a big rash, it feels grainy and tight. Its no longer pealing except for on my feet.

Im told i look as if i have a bad sunburn, my face is red and tight to the point where the skin around my eyes doesnt even stretch when i open them widely.The sides of my mouth keep cracking when i try to open it fully. I look as if i have really dry skin constantly, it is a fine dusty flakeness. I bathe in moisturizing bath oil but it doesnt even go past the first layer of skin it seems, and i moisturize with keri lotion 3 or 4 times a day but it doesnt seem to matter how much i do it 15 minutes later im just as dry.My skin is sensitive to light and feels like its on fire when exposed to any amount of sunlight. The skin around my armpits and breasts or anywhere that the skin has to strecth is red and sore. I still get hot flashes but most the time i am freezing cold. The skin on my hands is wrinkley and i have no sense of touch almost. My nails were so brittle they had to be cut all the way back.

I have numbing of the tongue, i cant even taste food anymore. I have dry mouth, and i feel as if im dehydrated constantly, i can drink bottle after bottle of water and still feel thirsty. I feel really hungry sometimes or not at all at others. Some days it feels like I IBS and then other days it can be fine. I am losing my hair. The roof of my mouth still feels as if ive burned it on something hot. My legs still look purple at times when im standing, and especially after being in the shower or bath. I am taking 1mg of both folic acid and zinc which my rheumatologist suggest to help slow the reproduction of my skin cells. I have blurred vision 90% of the time, and sometimes i see halos around letters. My mood swings are all over the place, some days i feel like just crawling into a ball and not moving, mostly because its too painful to move around and also because i hate how I look. And other days i just feel nothing at all. Im not exactly sure if when i was the 50mg of prednisone i was happy because of the drug or if i was happy in general because i realized what i could have lost. Not being able to see for 15 minutes really put things into perspective.

Im not sure how much worse it can get? I thought the swelling of my eyes was the worst part but from what i hear it can get much worse coming down off of prednisone. I was wondering if anyone else with psoriasis may have experienced any of these side effects while on prednisone? and roughly how long it took for them to go away.

I have been taking Prednisone (anywhere from5-30 mg a day) for a little over a month now. I am taking it for a Dermatitis type rash on my face. What my question is, is anyone else experiencing bags with black circles under their eyes? I know part of this is from getting up at 4 am to get something to drink and pee, barely getting back to sleep and waking up again an hour and a half later, but my eyes are sore and dried out (the skin) as well. I look 8 years older than normal! I also had a tooth break and my chipped tooth chipped further.

Was given prednisone for an allergic reaction (to Wellbutrin, we think) -- 5 mg 2X daily. Didn't seem to work, so they put on 20mg 3X daily for several days, and gradually decreasing. It's been since Christmas eve with a rash on my arms and legs and it's better, but not completely gone yet. I still wake up scratching. I've been finished with the treatment for 2 days.

The side effects I've experienced are sweating profusely, anxiety (rapid heart rate, etc), night sweats, strange dreams, insomnia and CRAZY APPETITE. I just keep eating and eating and nothing tastes right. It took me two weeks to figure out that it was the drug making me eat. I've also experience pretty severe gas that disrupts my work day and home life (my poor husband had to leave the room!)

I have crohns. Been on prednisone every 3 months for the past year. I have experienced the moon face, gained 30 lbs (that I needed), pain in knees and hips, also it depletes your body of calcium, so my teeth have been chipping very easily had to get 2 pulled. Also the strange thing with me is that my skin is very clear while I'm on it but as soon as I'm almost off I start developing this terrible rash on my face that just keeps getting worse. I have been off now for almost 2 mths. and the rash is terrible red, weeping, blistery all around my nose and chin. The Dr's don't seem to know what it is or how to get rid of it they just keep sending me to another Dr. Anyone else who has experienced this and knows how to get rid of it please email me !!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you

I was put on a 12-day dose of Prednisone for what the Doc "thinks" is dyshidrotic eczema. (I suddenly developed a rash on my hands and feet a few months back.)

This is my second day on the sssh..stuff! I've taken 30MG of pred - each day. It's 2AM and I'm WIDE awake and starving!!! I ate all day today not realizing why I was SO HUNGRY! Tonight for dinner I ate a huge steak and baked potato including all the fixins. I had no sensation of fullness or hunger relief...NONE! The gnawing hungry is constant and not relieved even for the FEW hours I am asleep. After reading the lovely reviews on this site, I'm calling my Doc tomorrow and getting off of this crap. My gwad...it's 2004...can't our medical community do better than this?? They should be ashamed of themselves exposing people like me with mild conditons to meds like this with such severe side affects!!! DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR THIS POISON TO BE FLUSHED FROM THE SYSTEM??

I started to feel much better 3 hrs after I started taking 30mg of prednisone. I have had fevers, horrible body aches and an ugly purple, blistery rash on my hands and knees. I do however have the bloating and gastric distension also. I am trying to keep exercising and eat fruit and vegetables. The gastric distress is nothing compared to what I had had over the last year.
