I just started Prozac today after being on Serzone for 10 years (and I liked Serzone, but a lot of people with liver problems and I'm scared of that happening with me) and am very nervous about the side effects I am reading in these testimonies...especially the weight gain as I am trying to lose 50 pounds! Is there anything good going on with people on this drug? Has anyone taken AMORYN and been successful?

I went on prozac for the first time when I was 22. It was just after I'd finished doing a degree in Japanese at University and it was just too hard for me and I ended up burning out a little. Looking back I don't think I was ever overly depressed - I just needed a little understanding and support, but I didn't really have much emotional support around me at that time in my life, so taking a drug seemed to be the answer.....or was it?
I gained 20 kilos. It took me a whole year to lose it after i stopped taking the prozac. To anyone who says that on prozac you don't gain weight, you lose it - what rubbish!! How do I know? I took prozac again when I was 25 - as a result of a broken relationship and I gained about 15 kilos the second time around. This time, it's taken me 3 years to lose the weight!! So, I know for a fact that prozac causes weight gain. Nobody can tell me that both times were coincidental or as a result of the depression itself, it happened only when I went on prozac - not when I was just depressed. I will never take it again and instead of feeling depressed when things go wrong in my life, I exercise. It's been one of the only things that has truly put me on a 'high' naturally. It's great. I would take it any day over prozac. Sure, prozac made me feel high, but it never felt natural to me. And I was unnaturally overweight on prozac as well. I'm now nearly 30 and can honestly say that the only times in my life when I've been overweight was when I was on prozac.

My experience with Prozac has been for a period of 7 months . It took at least a month to feel the effects. It has helped me tremendously I had obsessive compulsive thoughts before and I was diagnosed as clinically depressed. As my therapist once told me people confuse sadness for depression for example "I broke up with my boyfriend I am depressed" This is not so you are sad yes but depressed no. Depression seems to be an overused word and in that case people who think they should be on this drug don't really need to be on it and thats why it has no effect on them at all. Those people need to let time do its work on you.
-- By bubblehead | Reply | Send Private MailAs for those of us who really do have depression in a very serious way a chemical imbalance yes it does help. And for those of you debating will I gain weight or won't I this should not really be an issue of why you shouldn't take Prozac. Is peace of mind not the best choice. I am very happy with Prozac yes I do have the side effect of less sex drive but I am willing to continue with this path because I feel great emotionally and the Obsessive compulsive thoughts have disappeared. And before I couldn't sleep much with everything running through my head all the time. Now I sleep like a baby.
