I have been using Quasense for about 3 years now and the only side effect I have noticed is more spotting than usual. I sometimes have to double check the pack and make sure I didn't forget to take one! It usually occurs randomly and lasts anywhere from a couple days to a week or so. I love having 4 periods a year...so I have learned to deal with the unexpected spotting.

I started Quasense early in August 2009. About a month later, when I would have normally started my next period, I started spotting. It started out light but has only gotten heavier as time goes on. I finally stopped taking Quasense four days ago and now I'm having a regular period. So, essentially, I have been bleeding for 11 weeks and counting.
When I first starting reading about the side effects, I thought that there would be no way I would put up with having a period for more than two weeks. Then I started to experience it. I kept telling myself to wait it out - enough people have had good experiences on this pill, my body will adjust eventually, it's probably because I'm older (36), blah, blah, blah - but I can't take this anymore. I'm anemic and tired all the time. I've made an appointment with my doctor so she can prescribe something else.

i HAVE just finished my second pack of Quasense and have noticed no desire for sex and my vagina is very dry when i try and have sex. I have also become very moody and "snippy". I have also noticed a bloated feeling and weight gain with Quasense.
I definitely want to go back to Seasonal, I used Seasonal for over 2 yrs and never experienced any side effects.

I have been on quasense for 2 months, starting my 3rd month when I started to talk to my aunt about different birth controls. She told me her aunt was on Seasonale and my aunt was taking Seasonale (sp?) and they both hated it! My aunt started to tell me about the horrible 3 week periods and my sister has had the 3 week period of weird dark brown not blood but more of a solid clump? I haven't started to take the pills to help me with my period but after reading all of these comments I'm getting nervous to start taking them! I have noticed about a 5-7 pound weight gain (went to the doctors because of a yeast infection, which I have never had before), I get migraines about 7-8 times a year for about a week at a time, but after starting this new birth-control, I cannot get rid of my migraines no matter how much medication I take for it (and that medication makes the birth-control effectiveness go down :(...) and I have become quite irritable/bitchy with my boyfriend lately. I thought this was due to me starting college a couple weeks ago (the freshman 15, being stressed etc...) but now I'm not too sure. If anyone could PLEASE give me some idea as to what they think I should do as in keep taking quasense or switch to a new birth-control.

Am I the only one this happened to??

I was taking Quasense back in 2007, I had only gone through one pack of it and in March of '07 I was having minor chest pain and getting slightly short of breath from simply walking up a flight of steps. The thing that pushed me to go to an immediate care was the fact that I jogged about 10 ft and got dizzy and short of breath. At the immediate care the doctor said I should go to the emergency room to take a test to check for blood clots. I wound up stuck in the intensive care unit for 5-6 days because I had blood clots in BOTH of my lungs that covered almost my entire lungs... I could have died if I didn't go into the ER when I did, a day or two later and I may not have made it. This is INSANE to me... they basically told me that if I wasn't so young (23 at the time) and healthy (I ran track for college) that I wouldn't have made it. I don't even smoke!

I've been taking Quasense for about 5 months now in which I had changed from the nuva ring because it was beginning to cause abnormal pap smears but I had really loved the nuva ring. When I started Quasense, I basically had the same symptoms of the bleeding even after a month being on it, so much I bought a pregnancy test b/c my gyno kept telling me that it's normal to occur it that my body is just trying to regulate itself. I also am experiencing acne, in which when I was on NuvaRing my skin was beautiful! It has gotten a lot better with the breakthrough bleeding but gosh, look how long it took! I still have little to none spotting( the brownish stuff). The most serious side effect that I have noticed in this 5th month of taking it is that I have become real melancholy. So much that I've even had suicidal thoughts and I'm generally a happy go lucky person. If I feel like I've hurt someone's feelings, it's like I get so depressed! Usually I would feel like, okay, let me apologize and then life goes on, but I think Quasense makes me so sensitive that I dwell and dwell on small issues to where it's like the end of the world! I've never felt so down in my life and that's what made me think about researching the side effects of it, and I found this website. Also, after intercourse with my b/f , I have severe burning, in which I never experienced and I figured it was from the Quasense pill because I've noticed it makes me have vaginal dryness. I mean who wants that at age 33, I'm not ready for menopause yet! I'm considering switching to something else, I just don't want to have to go through crazy side effects to achieve the same goal. Thanx for creating this website, for now I know I'm not the only one experiencing these side effects.

I have been on Quasense for 9 months now. I have had 3 weeks of bleeding during the second month every 3-month pack/cycle. I am getting extremely tired from bleeding so much non-stop. During the last cycle and this one, I have been suffering from yeast infections. I have had one for 3 weeks straight now, and the gyno has given me prescriptions along with using monistat, and it has not gone away yet! I've been married a little over a month, and intercourse just makes me burn badly! I had irregular periods before, but this makes everything in my body irregular. I plan to switch pills ASAP.

I have been taking Quasense for 2 months now, and i feel horrible! I was on reclipsen before for extremely long and heavy periods, and it worked great, but then i switched to quasense and I have gained 8 pounds (doesn't sound like much? I'm four foot eleven!!) I have horrible mood swings and frequent headaches. I am having many digestive issues too, lately every time I eat I've been getting absolutely terrifying stomach cramps, and also just one bite of something fills me up completely! I've also been kind of gassy.... eek! No spotting, which is nice, BUT NOT WORTH IT! also, i have been super sensitive to smells, random things make me gag and i have to run out of the room. THIS PILL IS HORRIBLE!!!!

I've been on Quasense for almost two years now...and have nothing but problems!!! Every few months I get a heavy three week period. And I almost always have spotting. I constantly feel bloated and gained 20 pounds. I kept telling myself to just wait it out...it will get better but it never did. So I FINALLY QUIT. Now I have the most horrible period ever! I bleed through a pad in less than an hour and there are lots of clots. Does anyone know how long the detox lasts? How long should it takes for my body to go back to normal????

I'm so relieved I found this site! I've been on Quasense for TWELVE DAYS and I am in a living hell, I feel like a prisoner in my own mind. Ever since I started taking these pills my mood has plummeted. So severely I had to see a psychiatrist! I am not generally a sad person, so when I realized I was constantly depressed for a week straight, I thought of what had changed just recently, and what do you know? This is the pill from hell. Today is the day I decided to just stop taking them all together.

My girlfriend has been taking Quasense for 6 weeks now. She went on it because her period was all whacked out. The first couple of days I noticed the Extreme Mood swings, and Severe Nausea in the morning. The Nausea went away after a week or so. She complained of being dizzy is uncomfortable with the acne she is getting and weight she has gained. She is getting depressed and feeling tired all the time. We are busy people always doing something, But she just doesn't have the energy anymore. As the weeks went by her moods are getting worse and she is having extreme stomach cramps and began spotting. Which shouldn't be happening for another two months. This Pill sucks. I'm tired of seeing her in so much discomfort.

QUASENSE makes NO SENSE!!
I have been on Quasense now for almost a full 3 months. I have just decided to stop taking it. I originally thought it would be great to not have a period for three months at a time, and not worry about becoming pregnant- I already have a baby. Usually when I have my period, it is always heavy and I get very bad cramps. So just having a period every three months sounded great.
It hasn't been great. I get nausea often. Bad headaches. No sexual desire whatsoever. By boyfriend can really notice and is upset about it. Also, I am very crabby. But the worst of it all, I have been bleeding for the last 4 to 5 weeks straight! It's terrible! AND CRAMPING! I thought this medication would make my life better. It's not. It's not fun to do the pad/tampon thing everyday for 4 weeks +!! All while taking care of a baby and working a full-time job.
QUASENSE makes NO SENSE!

I was prescribed Quasense for 7 months ago because I had an irregular period. Some months I would be late and other months it wouldn't come at all. You can imagine the fear I had with that. I think I singlehandedly kept the pregnancy test industry in business. So my doctor prescribed this for me. I never experienced any spotting at all however on the first pack I had extreme breast tenderness. While this wasn't unusual on my other BC pills it was unusual that it lasted an entire month. During the second pack when when I noticed I was no longer interested in sex. This was VERY strange as I normally have a very high libido. Even when I try I just can't get into it. Areas that are normally sensitive to touch aren't. I'm now on my third pack and over the past two weeks I have woke to pounding headaches. It's very frustrating so I have asked my doctor to take me off . I will go back to bleeding once a month for a day and a half (maybe even every other month) if I can have my sex life back without any headaches.

I have been on Quasense for almost 2 years now, I haven't had too many side effects just dizziness, tired, easily annoyed, and sickness at the start of every new package ( like i said, not too many *rolling eyes*). The one side effect that has been the MOST annoying is after every period when i'm starting my new pack I get the symptoms of a bladder infection that lasts about a week. I have gone to my doc's and they have tested me for a bladder infection and i never have one. But every 3 months, the week i start my new pill pack..here it comes again!!!! uuuggghh

I have been on Quasense for 4 cycles, (a full year ) The first two no problems, the three a little breakthrough bleeding but only lasted two days or so and stopped. Now that I'm on the 4th cycle, bleeding everyday! I thought this was suppose to be helpful not an inconvenience. I am so confused and frustrated. Why now after a year of no problems? But After reading some of these posts I have noticed very severe mood swings and uncontrollable emotions. Crying a the drop of a dime. This stuff is evil!

I have to say first of al, Quasense is the generic for seasonal, not seasonique, the are different. Seasonique is over $250 where seasonale is only around $160. They generic Quasense is around $115. How people figure that is any more expensive than your old pills is beyond me. haven't they always cost around $30-$40 a month?? Yes, as someone on the pill for 10 years, they have always cost that much and unless you're used to getting them for free from a clinic you shouldn't be surprised.
That being said, I started with seasonale then they actually switched it to quasense on me and I didn't even know i was getting a different prescription. I'm sure it's because it just came out, I started this in 2005. I am in absolute heaven. In the beginning I had some spotting and It'll happen every now and then, but it doesn't affect anything for me, it is very slight. When I do have my period i seriously go through about 6 tampons for the whole period. I don't wear one at night because it would always be dry in the morning, and I don't have to put one in until after I get around to showering. It lasts about 2.5 days. This pill is a life saver for me. My fiance says he would be happy to get a vasectomy, but then I would have to start having periods every month again if i went off the pill. NO THANKS!
I cant believe I used to live my life having 3 months of bleeding every year! Now I bleed for maybe 12 days a year. I have had absolutely no weight gain, no mood swings, no discomfort during my period other than a slight cramps. Everybody is going to react differently to the pill, that is why there are so many of them of them to choose from. I say at least try this pill. Talk about liberation!!!!!

Oh! Thank God I'm not the only one dealing with this. I have pretty much the same side effects as everyone who has posted. I was on Seasonique for one cycle (which was fine, some light spotting) then the Pharm gave me Quasense. I'm about four weeks into the pack and I've noticed my clothes are fitting tighter and just thought it was holiday weight, but now I'm thinking its probably the pills! For the last week I've also had spotting and bleeding so much so that I can't have sex with my b/f either. Which is the reason I went on the pills in the first place -- more time for sex! I've had migraines in the past, but since going on Quasense I've had two in the past four weeks! I was worried I'm going to have a stroke or something! I called my doctor immediately after reading all the similar posts and had them call in a refill "brand necessary" for Seasonique. The nurse said that the bleeding and side effects were probably due to the Quasense, because even though Pharms prescribe the generic in place of the brand name, they are not exactly the same pharmacologically! If you are having problems with this pill, call your doctor and switch! No need to suffer or "stick it out" since everyone's body reacts differently to the pills. These are expensive and they should work like they are supposed to!

This is crazy! I'm so glad I found this! I have had the weight gain and lack of sex drive, too! Then it was a vicious cycle because I was depressed about gaining weight and feeling bad b/c I didn't want to have sex with my b/f and would gain more weight from the depression! I'm not refilling my prescription and really hope to see some major changes soon! I've gotten back into the swing of my work out routine, so hopefully I can drop them as fast as I put them on!

Ive been taking this for almost 3 months im about to take my first placebo pills in 4 days. the first month was amazing, i had no problems and my boobs even got a little bigger which made me happy. Around the 2nd half of the 2nd month i started getting the brownish discharge and i have it every day...i don't have any problems with sex drive..and the discharge doesn't bother my husband because it seems to go away until a few hours after we have sex and it never seems to get heavier. Ive always been a little underweight no matter how much i scarfed down everyday.. and i gained a few pounds so i look much healthier. I used to take ortho-tricyclen lo and i had pretty bad mood swings and they seem to be about the same now..so maybe im just naturally a moody bitch sometimes. Im going to keep taking this for at least the rest of the year until i either balance out and get better or something gets worse and i cant take it anymore.

I have had no problems with quasense whatsoever. I love it! No weight gain, spotting, nothing!! It is awesome... for me that is. It works wonderfully.

I've taken the infamous Quasense and experience constant flow of lite bleeding often red and brown. I will say that my attitude has been impacted, totally irritable and unapologetic about being a B----. I've had cramps all day with bleeding beyond my normal period. I am very frustrated with this and have stop taking immediately!!!! I was hoping that once I start the pack after my period it would be smooth sailing....NOT...So soon as I noticed that the bleeding and cramps were lite steady and constant...I felt I should stop taking this stuff. I need to check and see if my insurance covers the on brand stuff. Because I rather deal with my period for a defined period of time, then wonder when it will be leaving or mysteriously showing up unannounced. My bf is understanding for now but that will soon stop!!! I will try the on brand stuff or see about other non-bleeding side effect birth control!!! I'm taking the birth control to stop the bleeding not cause it!!!! Being Fertile is not my problem...the f----- monthly pains of being in prison in your body...

I'm so happy I found this site!!!!! I have had weight gain like crazy, spotting, and long heavy periods after I was put on this pill. Not to mention terrible migraines and abdominal discomfort. I too was on seasonal for a few years and was switched to this awful medicine. Yesterday I finally had enough of the weight gain (25 pounds all together!) and decided to go off my birth control. I thought I would do an internet search on this product to see what I could find. Looks like I should have done this months ago!

I've only been on it about 2 and a half months now but i haven't seen any signs of a period and i've actually lost about 5-7 pounds while on it. The first couple days i started the pill i did experience headaches, but not anymore. Sometimes i find myself to be a little emotional at times and my breast just feel a little heavy. Overall I love this pill.. Hope this info helped!

This pill has increase the intensity and frequency of my migraines. I was put on Quasense because of menorrhagia. Instead of getting a break, I started getting my period a week early, and it's been 22 days and it hasn't stopped, with some days light, some heavy. I called my physician and have stopped taking this pill, after being on it for 6 weeks. I also did gain 7 pounds, around my middle. It wasn't worth it.

I will never take this pill ever again. I have been on birth control for over 10 years and I have never experienced anything like this. I have been on at least 6 different types and this crap is insane. I have been on it for almost 3 months and have gained almost 10 pounds in my stomach and waistline, I have constant cramping in my stomach for the last month, I will not stop bleeding for the last month although my period is not due for another 2 weeks, i lost my sex drive completely, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, dizzy spells. all of the above basically. I started taking it because I skipped my period using my regular birth control. by not taking the placebo pills and starting a new pack. I've been doing that for over 4 years and I have never had this kind of reaction to anything. No one should take this pill. RUN FROM IT! if your doctor writes it down... say no... and ask for something else. Because it should be banned. I don't think they tested this one enough. The FDA needs to look again at this pill.

I'd be thrilled to skip a period. Heck, that's why my doctor prescribed Seasonale. The pharmacist, however, gave me Quasense instead. Let's see. It's 2am on Christmas Eve. I have basically been bleeding since HALLOWEEN. This is beyond ridiculous, and I really can't see myself "hanging in there" and waiting for it to stop. If I'm not all-out cramping, then it's just annoying, brown spotting. On top of that, my face has been breaking out since like, the second week of starting it. The insane thing is, I'm on Wellbutrin at the moment-- that pill is noted to decrease appetite and increase sex drive. I'm pretty sure Quasense is canceling THAT out entirely; I'm always hungry, and if I never had sex again I'd probably be thrilled. Worst. Birth Control. Ever.

I've been taking Quasense for only about 2 weeks, but so far it hasn't been good. I was sick to my stomach the whole first week and had no appetite. Also, when my normal period ended when I began taking the pill, it was like the last day of my period every day since then. I've got brown spotting every single day. I took this pill so I could feel comfortable having sex, but that side effect makes me feel more uncomfortable than ever! Are there other pills which work better than this? I specifically asked my doctor for Seasonale, and didn't notice until I got home that it wasn't what she prescribed for me.

I have been on Quasense for about 1 1/2 years and the last 2 cycles were like a never ending cycle. This pill is non-effective and will only cause periods lasting 1 month or longer. I love Quasense. I have been on it for about a year and a half. For the first year, I took it for the 3 month, would have a very short period for the placebo week and I had no breakthrough bleeding. My gynecologist told me I could skip the placebo week and start the new pack to avoid having a period at all. Every once in a while I will have spotting when I start the next pack after not taking the placebo, but its very light. Other than that, I have not gained any weight, my appetite is the same, I don't have nausea. I don't have any cramping, I don't have mood swings, it improved my acne. Other birth controls I have taken in the past has made me gain weight, or given my acne or made me nausea. I love this stuff.

I have been on this pill for two weeks now and have not had a day go by without a headached or nausea....or both most days. Bleeding has not been a problem- yet. I'm really tired of being sick to my stomach. I am not sure if its just the bc or the combination of this and my Wellbutrin SR since they have the same side effects...but whatever it is- it needs to STOP! Any suggestions to lighten the symptoms?

I've gained about 10 lbs gradually since January despite the fact that I started training for a marathon running up to 20 miles per week. I eat fairly decent and while I believe some of the weight is muscle, I can't explain the sudden pooch (not pregnant) and love handles I've grown. I always feel bloated and very anxious. I hate this pill.

I am really sorry for everyone out there that had bad experiences with Quasense. I had been taking this pill for 9 months and I loved it. It had cleared up my acne and I had absolutely no spotting, my periods were lighter and they would usually last for about 2-3 days. The only side effect I had were daily headaches. I do suffer from migraines every once in a while so these headaches were nothing compared to migraines, but they started coming everyday. I talked with my mom about it and she said it could be from the pills. So I stopped taking them. The headaches went away, but other things came back. I started getting acne again, my cramping got worse. I went back to my doctor and I was prescribed an antibiotic for my acne, and a regular birth control that I can take for 3 weeks and I just skip the dummy pills and start a new pack like the Quasense. Still to this day I haven’t gotten rid of my acne and that was my only reason for going on the pill. I want to get back on Quasense because I think the headaches are worth a pretty face. And from reading all the posts I think I got off lucky with just the headaches. Or I might even consider Seasonale if everyone says its so great.

I thought my body was just adjusting since I haven't taken the pill for a couple of years. Its very annoying bleeding when you're not supposed to be. I've also gained weight, too after being the same size for many years and I barely eat. Guess it's time to go back to my doctor

It takes about two of the three-month cycles to stop the breakthrough bleeding. After that it is super nice not to have your period for three months. It will get better, your body is just used to regulating more. Keep at it!

I have gained thirteen pounds in the five weeks I have been on it, and for the last two weeks, I have really made sure I was eating right (nutritionist) and I work out five days per week and yet the scale keeps going up. ???????????? I feel like a cow. This pill has to go. Like someone else said, I would rather be thin and happy. I also get weird brownish discharge, and am moody. I also recently had a zit and I am way too old for that to start: I am headed for my 30s and have never had acne. I feel bloated so I just ditched most carbs and am eating according to South Beach. I am desperate to get back into my skinny pants. I was a size 4 or 6 before I gained weight on this pill. Now I had to buy some bigger stuff and I am unhappy with my appearance. I think I am going to switch to an IUD.

Has anyone been on Quasense for awhile and the breakthrough bleeding has stopped. I have been on this product for 2 months now and in the past two weeks have experienced bleeding. the last week it has gotten heavier. I don't want to give up on this product so I need to know if anyone out there has been on this birth control and over time the side effects have stopped.

I'm reading through all these complaints and now I realize that it wasn't just me. I'm on my second pack of Quasense and all of a sudden I'm breaking out everywhere, I've started spotting which I never use to and I get nauseated every so often making me question if these pills are working correctly. The first three months I was on Quasense I had no problems but now that I'm in the middle of the second pack all of these symptoms started to appear. I even made an OBGYN visit just to see if something was seriously wrong with me. I'm so getting off these pills as soon as I can. I wish my insurance would cover Seasonal.

I glanced through all of the comments below on Quasense and all of them indicated concerns about breakthrough bleeding. I thought I'd post a comment because I've been taking it for quite awhile now, after having been on Seasonale before this, and I haven't had a problem with Quasense at all. I was fine on Seasonale too but switched to Quasense when it came out because it's less expensive. I haven't had any breakthrough bleeding in quite a long time. If I had any, it was when I was on Seasonale and even then it wasn't much. I wonder why so many of you are experiencing so much bleeding in between. The only thing I do experience every month is mild cramping and it usually occurs around the time I would normally get my period if I had it every month. Other than that, I can't complain. When I'm off of it that 1 week every 3 months, I'm usually on my period for about 3 days and that's it. So for me personally, Quasense works fine. But everyone's body responds differently to medications. I'm sorry to hear that you are all going through this and I hope you find something that works better.

I have been taking Quasense for almost 8 weeks now and have probably been bleeding for about 4 of those weeks. This is the first bc I've ever taken, so I imagine some of it could be due to my body adjusting, but with so many women saying that they did not have problems with Seasonale, I'm beginning to have second thoughts. I had no problem the first 2 weeks, and when I began light bleeding on the 3rd week, I didn't think it was a big deal especially with it being fairly light compared to my usual cycle. It lasted for a week and 1/2, but I never had to wear anything more than a panty liner. My cycle was also typically closer to every 3 1/2 weeks rather than 4 without a pill, so I figured my body was probably just getting used to things. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I started bleeding again. It has still been lighter than my normal cycle, but much more than I would consider spotting. My wedding is in a little over a month and I'm not sure what to do. Switching to a new pill could cause problems too, but I don't want to be bleeding through my entire honeymoon in Mexico. I have not had any other negative symptoms though. No weight gain, no acne, no moodswings.

i have been on Quasense for 2 1/2 months. i have gained about 20 pounds, my emotions are going crazy!, i have had horrible stomach pains and 2 cysts. i don't like not having my period every month because w/ this BC you don't know if it's the pill or if it's actually your pregnant. IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!

I was prescribed Seasonale for Endometriosis. My physician told me i didn't have to take the week of placebo pills and i could hold off my period indefinitely if i wanted to. This was over 4 years ago. I went nearly 4 years without a period, that is until Quasense came out and it was like Quasense was a placebo. Several weeks into it i started spotting. I switched back to Seasonale with no break through bleeding for another couple of years when i was given Quasense again through the pharmacy as a substitute. Here i am 5 weeks into this pill and bleeding once again. Seasonale held off my periods even on the placebo week. I think my body thinks im not on the pill at all with Quasense and it takes more than a few weeks on it to start the bleeding process since a week off of Seasonale didn't even start a period for me.

I called my pharmacy and told them about it and they said my insurance wouldnt pay for a new pack until it was time to refill it but they would call to see if they would override that and allow me to get Seasonale. Turns out the insurance company had no problems allowing me to get the name brand pill given the problems i am having on Quasense.

I am pleased to know that im not the only one to have this awfully heavy break through bleeding. I'd say in over 4 years of no periods on Seasonale that Quasense definitely has something different going on pharmaceutically- i dont care what they say about the active ingredients having to be the same to be equivalent!
