My wife took reglan, 10mg for 1 month during 3rd month of her pregnancy to treat severe nausea. My daughter from that pregnancy suffers from mild cerebral palsy.
I dont know if Reglan had a role in it or not, but dont take chances that will give you a lifetime of guilt and sadness.

I just had surgery from Stomach Cancer and was experiencing naseau and constipation. I was given reglan because it would help move my bowels and alleviate my nausea. I was given one in the hospital and took a total of 3 tablets over the course to two days. While laying down, my face began to twitch and my stomach felt like it was turning inside out. Soon my whole body was jerking to the right, I couldn't walk, my tongue kept moving.........I went to the ER in an ambulance and waited for an hour to be given a benadryl shot which stopped the jerking. Doctors at the ER knew it was reglan before I even said anything to them. So why is it that this garbage is on the market and doctors prescribe it?? Now I can't sleep or sit sleep. My eyes twitch when I close them.

My husband was paralyzed from the arm pit down. He was given Reglan to control bowel movements. He suffered several episodes of pulmonary arrest and had to be paddled at least once. Finally, a young internist studied the drugs he was on and ordered immediate removal of Reglan. He suffered no further episodes.

well its not a new side effect but i did have your same experience with compazine. it made me feel extremely angry and i was in the emergency room for a kidney stone and i dont know why they gave it to me. i was not vomiting or did i vomit prior to my visit so why was i giving this horrible drug. it made me want to rip out my IV and just run as fast as i could possibly to kill myself i wasn't sure what else to do. it scared me. im still not the same tho its only been 2 days but im still messed up.
put it this way, im 20 year old male white about 5'11" 265lbs im a pretty tough person when it comes to pain but this was the one time i cried out loud because i thought i was gonna have to kill myself.
anyways anyone who dont have to take this drug please DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
please!!! i would rather pass a large kidney stone again than to be given that drug.

I took reglan 3x a day fo 40 days I went to the hospital for a nausea abdominal pain and swelling as well as constipation. my diagnosis was gastiritis and the Dr. sent me home with 120 10ml reglan. 2 days into taking the medication I was an emotional wreck, But unfortunately for me I was already on a few medications so I had no idea what was turning me into an emotional basket case I cried at least twice a day for no reason. I felt worthless, it was almost as if I had gotten lost inside my own body. I couldn't think straight couldn't concentrate and lost about 75% of my short term memory, I also lost the ability to control my bladder I am only 34 imagine how embarrassing it is to run to the bathroom in public. my arms lock up right at my elbow and I have to use my other arm to unlock it. Then even better my hands spontaneously freeze up in a claw like position. my eyes sometimes feel like they are jumping around in my head and at least 2 times a day my legs and feet feel like they are vibrating. My situation got so bad my fiance' thought I was losing my mind and told me to go get help or he was gonna leave me so 2 months 3 days after starting the medication I started mental health counseling. I had so much anxiety that I feared everyone I was scared if I had to leave my house by myself they diagnosed me with PTSD of course because I didn't know reglan and I wasn't taking it anymore I didn't mention it. I went to counseling for 12 weeks and it didn't help. I even tried to seek a different counselor but I had so much anxiety still that I started canceling all my appointments I just couldn't find the courage to be around strangers I felt like everyone was out to get me.I couldn't even bare the thought of going to work. And to this day I still have all of these symptoms and just realized the other day that it all started with this medication and the funny thing is I didn't even remember taking it until I found the empty bottle. I have been suffering without a clue why since March of 2008. I really thought I was going insane and everyone around me did to because I most definitely was not myself and it was very apparent to those that see me on a daily basis. It took me 2 hours to write this because I have to stop and read it in order to remember what I am writing about!!! Yeah it's that bad!!!! My family has suffered greatly over this.

My son was given REglen from age 6wks til we adopted him at 2yrs - he wasn't walking or moving much. I immediately had the doctor take him off the drug and within a week he was walking, climbing - it was amazing! Around that time he stopped saying the few words that he was saying and has never really regained the speech until about 4 - he is now talking a bit. He has been diagnosed with severe Childhood Apraxia of Speech as well as dysarthria - which affects his tongue. I am pretty sure that his speech delay is due to this drug. It is only now that I am finding out that noone should be on it for more than 3 mths - and he was a baby on it for 2yrs!
I recommend that all parents refuse to let their child be given Reglan.... nasty stuff.

Is there a connection to side effects of Reglan and history of migraine? I also have migraines but was given Reglan as a routine anti-nausea during 2 separate surgeries. Both times I had uncontrolled restlessness and huge anxiety that lasted a solid day. I would go home and writhe around in my bed for 24 hours until the medicine was out of my system. I kept telling the doctors but no one knew what the problem could be nor did anyone care to investigate since the episode was over. I was petrified of future surgeries and had my charts pulled. I went though every medication and side effects to diagnose myself. Miserable experience. I saw it described as a "chemical torture" and I would agree. Why isn't this taken more seriously? Also, does anyone know what are the alternatives for us who cannot tolerate this medicine? One doctor told me that I would just have to suffer with the nausea if I cannot take it. Is that true?? Thanks to anyone who can help and blessing to you all!!

I was put on Reglan for acid reflux first 4x a day 10 mg,then my doctor used it to 15 mg 4 x a day. I started to get more and more anxiety, nervous and jittery I couldn't concentrate and started to have crying outbursts. I finally had like I felt a nervous breakdown and the doctor on call prescribed anti anxiety just to calm me down. He said to get off the Reglan immediately! I was on it for 2 months and I'm still fighting anxiety after 3 weeks of being off it. The twitching of my eye comes and goes better then everyday like it was. I wish I would have never heard of this drug, but I trusted my doctor was doing the best thing for me.

My husband was put on Reglan generic November 11, 2008 for acid reflux. Saw Doctor in Dec. and again in March. Told to continue taking drug and come back in four more months. His side effect were loss of bladder control, erectile disfunction and unable to sleep. He did cut the dose and the lack of bladder control stopped.
My husband committed suicide April 7, 2009. He had never had depression in the past and we had no idea he would even consider this. Another lady in my small town husband did the same thing taking the horrible drug!!!

I have had two AWFUL experiences with Reglan!
First time, I was in the ER with high blood pressure and a very bad headache. To treat the headache, I was given a combo of Reglan IV and "unknown". Right away I started sweating and freaking out! The only thing i could focus on was leaving. I felt this overwhelming desire to pull out my own IV and go home! I was so tired but couldn't rest... my mind just raced with depressing thoughts. They discharged me in this state... I didn't argue... I couldn't get out fast enough. However, I hardly made it home. I can not believe I was allowed to drive home in such a state.
Not knowing what meds caused me to have such a reaction... it happened again last week!
I was in the Emergency Room having treatment for a spinal leak from a spinal tap a few days prior. I complained of back pain (no kidding) and was given meds in my IV. Same thing...all over again! This time my mother witnessed the horrible reaction. The nurse only gave me a cold towel for my head and it took 2 days to start feeling back to normal... NEVER will I have this medication again.

Well i started taking Reglan for the increase of my milk supply. As i started to read through all of your side affects a few of them hit me to think that maybe i feel the way i do because of this medicine. I have been having an altered state of mind and anxiety the only way i can explain it is my mind feels NOT THERE!! pretty much and it lasts for several minutes. (i'm scared to drive now) I just had a baby so i'm thinking at first it's maybe because of no sleep and taking care of two other children during the day was causing these problems but as i research this drug more and more i know now that it was the Reglan causing and still causing my problems my children in no way can be the ones causing some of these problems after all i've been taking care of them just fine for several years before i started taking this drug. So i wasn't to thank everyone for sharing there stories as well because it has really made me determined exactly what and where my problems are coming from... "Now it's time for me to find some help for this" Thanks again!

About a week ago I was having a severe headache that had not subsided for about two days. I knew it wasn't a migraine because I had suffered with migraines before and the pain was not at all similar. The symptoms I was having were fatigue, severe weakness, and the two day headache. The doctors then ran the usual blood tests and ruled out my adrenals for the fatigue and weakness issues. Just as a side note, I also suffer from Depression and Anxiety so keep that in mind as I continue. The doctor decided to give me Reglan with Benadryl in my IV. Bad choice! About 20 minutes later I started to feel droggy and in an altered state of mind. I felt as if my body was heavy and my sense of tough was lessoned. Then the fun part came. Without my control my left arm would shot up straight in the air as if I was a 6 year old trying to get the attention of my teacher. It was horrible because I would feel a tingling sensation right before it would occur. So I started to time the sensation and hold my arm down, however, I almost hit my mother who was beside me. So just to recap, here I am sleepy, droggy, in another state of mind, and with my hand flinging in the air. I was not a happy camper. Did I mention this all toke place at 2-3 in the morning! The doctor just told me that the reaction was an adverse reaction that some patients get. Thanks Doc ;)! The only way to offset the Reglan is by administering more Benadryl. So if you are ever found in the position where you are having an adverse reaction to Reglan try some Benadryl. The next day when the rest of my panels came back I have hypothyroidism, which means that my body does not produce enough thyroid enzymes to support my thyroid function. Hypothyroidism causes depression, weight loss or gain, fatigue, weakness, and many more symptoms. Good Luck to everyone and stay off the Reglan not a fun trip to be on.....

I was prescribed Reglan for chronic nausea. My overall experience has been positive. I certainly am able to live a more normal life than without it.
The most noticeable side effects have been restlessness, difficulty concentrating and more frequent need to urinate. None of these have been bad enough to disrupt normal day-to-day life.

I was told by my doctor to go to the ER for my severe migraine. I was given Reglan, Toradol, and a third drug that I cannot remember. The drug was given through an IV. About four or five minutes after the drug was given (I was in the room alone) I began to feel strangely. I wasn't warned about any strange side effects so I began to worry what was going on.
The side effects started by feeling a GREAT and inexplicable sense of urgency...like I needed to get up and run somewhere important RIGHT AWAY. Shortly after, like thirty seconds later I was forced to jump up out of the bed, it was literally painful to be sitting in the bed. I needed to move...and NOW! I was trying to rationalize my behavior. I felt as if I was given some kind of psychological drug that screwed with my mind. I began to feel a terror unlike any terror I have ever known.
I was trying to reason myself back to calmness and sanity, but I began to feel the rest of my body go into convulsions. I was standing on the side of the bed in my hospital room and I clutched on to the bed rails and started rocking and twitching and crying hysterically. I wanted to rip my IV out and run like crazy. I became claustrophobic and my heart was pounding out of my chest. I was covered in a cold sweat and I felt like a knife was going into my heart. I was convinced I was having a true heart attack.
My doctor happened to walk by my room and the curtain was half open. He saw me crying and writhing on the side of the bed. He laughed at me and asked me what was wrong. I politely reminded him that he was the one with the medical degree and that he should tell me what was going on. He smiled a Mr. Rogers kind of smile and said, "dystonia....that's all. So, just relax." He made me sit on the bed and that is when the full body convulsions started. I was flopping like a fish out of water on the bed and the nurse started getting short with me telling me I needed to "calm down." I politely told her that it was not my disposition that was causing the freak out, but the chemical that she pumped me full of.
I kept asking what was going on and what "dystonia" was. I was treated like an irrational child and the doctor sat smiling at me like I was crazy. I was convinced I was literally dying. The nurse put the blood pressure cuff back on me and she started freaking out saying that if I didn't control my heart and bring it back down to normal that I was going to have a heart attack. I told her that was my complaint from the beginning of the allergic reaction. I thought I was having a heart attack.
Reluctantly, (and after ten minutes of suffering the most painful and slow torture) the doctor prescribed some benadryl. I was begging him at this point to sedate me because the pain, panic, and body convulsions were beyond my tolerance...that and I was terrified and not getting any answers. The doctor held me down in the bed after the benadryl was administered and he kept insisting I go to sleep. How can you sleep when you are suffering those kinds of symptoms and convinced you are dying (without so much as an explanation as to what is happening to your body)?
I eventually fell asleep five or ten minutes later and woke up being wheeled to CT scan for my migraine. The worst part was that I was begging for my husband the whole time (who was just outside the room fighting with the billing department). The doctor told me that he was going to get my husband and then just left. I went through that whole trauma alone.
And when I was released from the hospital two hours later no one ever bothered to explain to me that the muscle spasms, heart pain, palpitations, and panic attacks would continue for some time as the drug worked its way out of my system. The side effects lasted on a much more mild scale for two days following this episode. I wouldn't wish this terror on the worst person on earth. Why is this drug even offered to people?

I went to the ER almost three days ago for nausea and vomiting and was put on an IV of reglan. I began feeling agitated and the doctor told me that this was normal. I wanted to get out of there but kept my calm and managed to get home afterwards. I'm still suffering from the anxiety and depression and I can't sleep! can anyone tell me if and when these symptoms wear off? is my brain permanently damaged? I'm terrified and worried thinking what I am going to do now if I have to quit my job, how I am going to take care of myself.
thank you for reading and if you have any advice for me

I was on Reglan every 4 hours for nausea, GERD, acid reflux,
digestive disorders, now known as Gastroperisis, Gastric emptying syndrome, DRUG INDUCED PARKINSONISM.
I took Reglan for a few years for digestive, stomach problems and nausea.
I had this progressing over several months I couldn't write a check, my daughters had to do it, I couldn't eat food without spilling it, the tremors just advanced so quickly and severely until the neurologist said I didn't have Parkinson's and too get off Reglan. It took a few months but the tremors went away and I got my life back.
But not entirely, I don't know if Reglan caused the Gastroparesis or not. But I was recently diagnosed with that. Still have GERD, and other digestive problem including the recnt dx of Gastroparesis which there is no cure for.

My doctor prescribed Reglan to help increase my breast milk supply. After a few days I started getting a stiff jaw. After several hours it got so intense that I felt I needed to go to the doctors. I called my husband at work and asked if he could come home and take me to the doctors. He worked about 25 minutes away. By the time he got home I was screaming in pain - something I had never done in my life before. He took me straight to Urgent Care. I advised them that I thought I was having a reaction to the Reglan I had taken. By this time by jaw was spasming so bad that it felt like my jaw and teeth were going to shatter in my mouth. The doctor said Reglan would not do this and gave me a shot and said to go home and contact my Dentist. While I was waiting for the paperwork I started having problems breathing and swallowing. At this point Urgent Care discharged me and told me to go to ER. Once I was at ER and finally got seen I advised the doctor of my symptoms and that I thought it had to do with the Reglan. He actually listened to me and agreed that it was the Reglan and said he would administer a shot of Benadryl to counteract the effects of it. It took them over a hour from that point to get me the shot. It was the longest and most painful hour of my life. I was literally sat on a bed in a hallway at the ER screaming in pain. Within minutes of the Benadryl being administered I was feeling 100% better. I highly recommend seeking medical attention at the very first sign of any muscle spasms or involuntary movement while you are on this drug. Thank to you everyone else for sharing their experiences with us.

I had recently had my esophagus dilated and was in a lot of pain and feeling sick to my stomach. I went to the ER. They wanted to do a CAT scan, but wanted me to drink some liquid before having it done. Already feeling sick, I couldn't keep the liquid down so they gave me reglan. With in 5 minutes I began to feel very confused so I pressed the nurses button, by the time she came in the room I was unable to move or speak, yet I was completely aware of what was going on. After a few minuted of asking me what was the matter (the fact that I couldn't speak should have given here a clue) the nurse went to go get the doctor. He came in and asked me what was wrong (at this point I felt like they were not going to fix me). He then order 100mg of Benadryl.. I came out of my reglan reaction with in a few minutes, but I was crying and hysterical. Hopefully I never have to experience this nightmare again.

I was prescribed reglan to increase my breastmilk supply. A few days after I began taking it I became very depressed, I felt like I wanted to die. I believed that I was suffering from post-partum depression, but a friend told me that she new someone who had experienced the same thing with this drug. I stopped taking it immediately and the very next day I was back to normal. I was so happy and relieved to have the nightmare end. Reglan is a horrible drug and it should be taken off of the market. Reglan is evil.

I needed a uterine biopsy so my OB/GYN prescribed something to dilate me. He also prescribed Reglan for my stomach. I didn't know at the time that's what it was or anything about the drug. He said to take the two meds together. I took 2 doses and after taking the second dose I got a tingle that went up my spine and threw me into a full blown panic attack for 48 hours solid. I couldn't relax so I would walk in and out our sidewalk and then I'd be so exhausted I'd have to lie down which was horrible. My heart was racing and I couldn't relax any part of my body. My entire body ached. Our small dog jumped on the bed and I thought I would die from the movement. I couldn't talk without the pain and I couldn't concentrate when someone would speak to me. I kept trying to rest by going to each part of my body and talking myself into relaxing. I'd start at my toes and by the time I would get to me ankles it was full blown panic again. My husband tried to give me a gentle hug and it was SO painful. I couldn't eat or drink.
I called the doctor and they insisted it was from the dilator but I knew it was the Reglan.
That was months ago and things have not changed. I still get a tingle in the base of my neck that goes up my spine and I get the panic attack. I can't sit and watch TV because when I relax it starts. I keep telling everyone that I feel like I'm not the same person I was before I took the drug but I don't know how to describe it to anyone. You had to go through it and feel what I felt to understand it completely. I fear I'm going to feel like this the rest of my life.
I'm now seeing a therapist that is helping me work through the attacks. Hopefully that will work. They put me on Celexa to help with the attacks, but that has side effects too. I tried cutting back on them but then the attacks got worse again. My therapist is well informed and knows about the Reglan and how bad it is. He is also taking me slowly off Celexa and replacing it with something else. I've been on Wellbutrin for years and have never had any problems with that.
My family is very supportive and that helps a lot. I feel very fortunate to have them.
I read all the experiences that everyone wrote and I can see me in all of them to some extent. I feel for every one of you and hope you all can have some peace in your lives.

I was prescribed Reglan to increase my breast milk. I have no history of depression or anxiety. After a month or so having taken Reglan I got extreme anxiety and insomnia. I knew I was experiencing something that was NOT normal for me. It was a terrible experience. I had to move in with my mother so she could help me with my baby. I was diagnosed with post-pardum depression/ anxiety and put on antidepressants. Something I never would have believed would happened in my life. I am now weening myself off of them. Although my Ob/Gyn says that this experience was not due to the Reglan I was on. I am not convinced. I was taking it three times a day. I will never take Reglan again.

It really is surprising that this drug is used. I had an episode when I was 18. My parents were out of town and I got a really bad migraine. I called them and they told me I should go to the emergency room. I went by myself and I don't remember what they gave me, but it must have been Reglan. With in minutes of the IV I got really nervous and agitated. I wanted to crawl out of my skin. I buzzed the nurse button like 3 times and after 10 minutes and no one came I panicked. I pulled the IV out and left the hospital. Crazy I know but I couldn't think clearly. I went home and after a few hours I was okay.
Well this brings me to 9 years later and to my most recent experience. I am pregnant and I got a really nasty migraine. I was puking, couldn't see out of my right eye. Since there wasn't anything I could take I called my OB. He told me I should go to the ER and so I went with my husband. They said they wanted to give me Reglan and Benadryl, since I didn't know that was what they gave my when I was 18 I said okay. With in minutes I was having the same reaction I did 9 years ago. I went nuts. I started freaking out. I told my husband I wanted to leave. I needed the IV out of me. My skin was itchy and burning. I was nervous, shaking, and having a hard time breathing. When I husband got the nurse she was really condescending. She was like, “Do you have a history panic attacks?” I said, "no." Then she got the Dr., who ordered more Benadryl. After about 15 more minutes I calmed down. This was an extremely unpleasant experience; I will never take this medicine again.

THIS IS A HORRIBLE DANGEROUS DRUG!!!!!
Doctors prescribed this to my mother for 5 years!!!! Because of it's devastating side effects it is FDA approved for short term 4-12 weeks and only as a last resort. And NEVER for Parkinson's patients. It is unclear if Reglan caused the Parkinson's like symptoms or if she had it prior. Either way the doctor was so wrong to prescribe this medication to her. She is completely disabled can't walk or even get out of a chair had a auto accident and falls one time a metal frame fell on her head causing a hospital visit another time she fell into cactus! I was horrified to learn that no one caught this error. Not one doctor or the drug store told my parents REGLAN could cause her to end up using a walker and unable to function even the simplest daily tasks and that these symptoms could be permanent.

I started taking REGLAN for gastropoesis 5 months ago. Since I have been tested for MS due to my side effects from REGLAN. Thousands of dollars in medical bills. Symptoms included, numbness and tingling in the extremities and face, forgetfulness, muscle weakness, fatigue, depression, anxiety, insomnia, loss of fine motor skills, confusion, muscle rigidity, etc. I quit taking REGLAN last night hoping that there is no permanent damage. Anyone have any hopeful conclusions?

I am a 66 year old female, and now taking Citalopram 20mg, and Requip. I was prescribed Metoclopramide Tab 10mg. for acid reflux. I was to take them four times a day, 30 minutes before eating, and at bedtime. I took the first pill at lunch. Shortly after, I became very weak and nauseated. I went to bed. I was able only to get back and forth to the bathroom. I skipped the dinner pill, and felt a little better. But I took the bedtime pill, and became weak, nauseated, and had arm and hand tremors. The next day, I took one more pill, with the same effects. My son found on the computer, the side effects were similar as mind, and was worse with seniors. No more pills did I take. It took 6-8 hours to get back close to normal. That was yesterday. I still feel a bit panicky at times, fearing it is happening all over again.
My husband had taken Reglan years ago, with no bad side effects...
I never want to try it again...

I took reglan in 1990 for the treatment of escophagitis (sorry if spelling is wrong). Had severe life threatening reaction (acute dystonic) and was rushed to hospital. Basically, it started the day after taking it. My face was stuck in a permanent Joker-like smile and it was painful. Thought I was going nuts, I was only 18 at the time, and then took another pill as prescribed. Later, my face stuck in an open mouth gaze position, I could not shut my mouth, it would spring right back open. Then, I lost my speech and spoke like a baby. At that point, my parents realized there was something seriously wrong (they had previously thought it was just me being nervous or something) and called the doctor. I was rushed to the hospital, and on the way I couldn't breathe. My bottom jaw shifted to the right, and my top jaw shifted to the left, and the pain was excruciating. I chipped my front tooth right off. My face was all twisted.
This went away after I was given Benadryl in the ER but I then developed the facial tic associated with Reglan, on the left side of my face. I am 36 years old now and a trial lawyer and singer who is always in the public eye. Luckily, the twitch is slight and only affects my left side, and mostly when I speak because it involves muscle movement. I was prescribed this drug 14 years before it was approved by the FDA. I would tell everyone I know never to take this drug, not even once. Its so dangerous and if I knew of the side effects I would have ever agreed to take it. Its very, very embarrassing to have this twitch. No one ever told me how dangerous this drug was. Hope this post may help someone. Thanks for reading.

I went to the ER with nausea and vomiting just yesterday around 3 a.m. I have been throwing up for 3 days now. When I got there, they immediately gave me reglan through iv. After about 5-10 minutes, I started to feel hyper also. I wanted to leave, I tossed and turned, I didn't want the iv in me anymore. I started feeling tingling in my toes. Later around noon, I felt depressed and aggravated. Any little thing got to me and I told my fiance' that I was not happy and I just should end everything including my life. Now I see why I was feeling this way. I am so glad I did not get this prescription filled that they prescribed for me. Ask the side effects before taking this medicine.

I felt extremely hyper after receiving a dosage of Reglan. I was in the hospital after suffering a terrible bout of food poisoning and I became extremely nauseated. The physician gave me this medication in order to control the nausea. After about 10 minutes, I felt worse than before going to the hospital. I felt extremely hyper and could not sit still. I felt extremely terrified and did not know why...I felt like I wanted to take off running and throw myself in front of the nearest car or jump from the roof of a building. I started crying uncontrollably. I told my doctor how I felt and she stated "some people experience this feeling...about 1 in 1000 people". I began to wonder why such a drug was on the market if this is what happens. I'm wondering how many people have felt similar and actually acted on their feelings.
The scary thing is this...I believe the estimate of 1 in 1000 people suffering side effects is wrong. While at the hospital a nurse told me there was another patient who experienced the very same experiences on the morning my dosage was injected.
I have never felt so awful in my life and I'm hoping there will be a class action lawsuit for this drug.

My daughter just had surgery, and was getting Reglan with Benadryl through her IV. She requested no Benadryl with the last dose, because she didn't want to be sleepy when her sister came to visit. Suddenly, her jaw clenched and her eyes rolled to one side (she said she couldn't control her face) and she became panicky, and fearful that the doctors wouldn't let her go home. She thought she was having a stroke or a seizure. An injection of Benadryl helped her to calm down, but she experienced tingling at the base of her neck and "felt funny" for a few days after...Now we know why they give the two drugs together!

I have been on reglan twice and both times I was on it I became so agitated that I couldn't lay down, my face got all red and my blood pressure went sky high. The second time I had it was just before surgery and when my grandma went to tell the nurse she said that I was just nervous about the surgery. I was so agitated that I couldn't even lay down as I was being wheeled into surgery. Afterwords I told my doctor what happened and he told me to make sure that I don't take it ever again and that I indeed have a reaction to it.

I was given reglan to aid in digestion while I was being treated for chirosis, and had some negative effects from it, cant remember them now but was taken off of it. I still fight small bouts of depression and anxiety. Now I have to wonder why a doctor from a very reputable hospital would prescribe reglan to a patient with a long history of drinking (that alone is a depression symptom) a pill that has suicidal thoughts as a possible side effect of reglan.

i was in the ER for what we thought was appendicitis. They hooked me up to the IV and within 2 minutes of the Reglan going into my body I started having a feeling of panic and terror I've never felt before in my life. I quick called my husband on the cell saying he need to come get me NOW! and I was so close to ripping the IV out of my arm, they had this blood pressure thing on my finger and the feeling of clautrophobia I had just from that and the IV being attached t ome was the most overwhelming paniced feeling I ever felt. Then, my whole body started uncontrollably convulsing. You can imagine how scary this was for both me and my husband, neither of us understood what was going on. The nurse gave me benadryl and the effects starting going away after about 10 minutes, at that point, my sanity started coming back and i literally could not stop smiling due to the relief I felt just coming back to normal. I still have panic feelings thinking back and remembering the experience. i can truly say it was horrific.

I had an agonizing migraine this Saturday, with all the usual delightful symptoms: pain, violent vomiting,... Went to the ER. After many hours I was hooked up to an IV with Tegretol (an anti-seizure med that's effective with migraine) and Reglan (for the nausea). Within a couple of minutes after the IV drip started I realized something was wrong. My migraine pain was actually increasing. I felt a desperate sense of being connected to this IV that was feeding me drugs whose effects were suddenly unexpected. Then things spiraled from there. I went into a panic. This sense of panic was unlike anything I have ever experienced in my life (and I've had my share of hospital horrors). I thought my heart was going to explode. Luckily my friend was next to me. I told him to get a nurse. I told the nurse frantically that I didn't know what was happening to me, I was freaking out, but I begged him to do something. He said I was probably having an "anxiety attack", which can happen with Reglan ("anxiety" sounds like a euphemism for what I was living through, but whatever...). He moved quickly, and hooked up some Benadryl to the IV. I also asked him to get me out of the dark, airless room I was in, as I felt like I was going to choke from the claustrophobia. Between the Benadryl (which apparently counters the panic effects of a Reglan reaction) and standing out in a spacious, well-lit hallway, I felt a couple of degrees removed from hell. Anyhow, there's my Reglan tale. R.M., Newton, MA

At the age of 17 I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux. I was given a couple stomach medications, in which one of them was Reglan, for my nausea. I then began experiencing "severe" anxiety attacks and found myself very depressed. I was unable to be around people and sadly contiplated suicide several times, when oddly my life was great and pretty normal. I was sent to a therapist in which he also could not resolve the problem. I was put on anti-depressants which partially helped. When I experienced anxiety attacks I was force myself to sleep them off, causing myself a sleeping-disorder called insomnia. I also bagan to lactate milk, when I was not pregnant. I did not know that the Reglan WAS the cause of all my symptoms until the age of 23 when I was hospitalized. I had stopped taking all my medication for over three years and was doing very well. When I was in the ER a nurse seen that Reglan was on my chart and since I was experiencing nausea, she inserted the Relgan into my IV. Within 15 minutes I began to freak out, I was having an extreme anxiety attack. I was yelling I that I wanted go home. I felt like ripping my hair out. That was when another nurse (also a good friend of mine) seen me and said I was having a reaction to the Reglan. The doctor came in and explained that the Reglan was cause of my anxiety. After I calmed down hours later, I explained my passed symptoms and he said that all my symptoms where Reglan related side effects. I DO NOT RECOMMEND REGLAN!!! It's better to feel like or even to throw up, then to feel like taking your own life and not knowing why...

First off, I am an RN. I was working the night shift and about midnight was struck with a migraine that any light or sound and I thought my head would explode. I personally never had a "migraine" just headaches that 2 Tylenol took care of. Within 15 minutes of this migraine attack I was running for the bathroom and vomited non stop till I felt my stomach was inside out. I left work early. When I got home I took 1 Percocet prescribed for muscle spasm pain following an auto accident. It did not touch the pain. I could not sleep and felt restless. It took a lot of encouragement, but finally let my family take me to the local ER (not my hospital). Upon arrival they inserted an IV which immediately infiltrated and my hand blew up like a balloon. I knew I was off to a bad start and trouble ahead. Another IV line was inserted on my wrist by my thumb. I was told I was dehydrated and needed fluids; meanwhile no bloods were drawn to even know whether I was dehydrated or not, or to even check for some toxin or something; maybe the meatballs in tomato sauce I had for dinner were tainted with salmonella?..Next in comes the nurse and gives me Reglan into the IV for what? She says it will help my nausea.....I did not have any and told her so....she can't to inject it and within 5 minutes I am jumping off the gurney and freaking out with my whole body in some sort of muscle spasm. I am agitated and yelling for someone to help me. My skin on my entire body felt like it was being burned by branding irons. The nurse comes in and gives me IV Valium 10mg twice......I am now more agitated and ready to rip out the IV which is burning my wrist and I am losing control. Meanwhile my migraine/headache is more intense and I felt like my head would explode. Another doctor came in and then ordered 2 750mg Robaxin's and 2 Percocets by mouth. 1/2 hr of jumping around like a jumping bean I finally was able to calm down. I was then D/Cd from the ER without any diagnosis and told to take 2 Robaxin 750 mg 4 times a day with 2 Percocets 4 times a day...As a nurse who just went thru 1 year of Robaxin and Skelaxin treatment following the car accident I was no way going back on those drugs that caused me to be depressed and useless.I saw my own MD the next day and my neurologist and they told me to take what I was prior to this experience. Well, the whole body spasms sneek up on me esp at night and now I am taking Robaxin only when it happens.Needless to say, ER's and all doctors really have no idea what is wrong with anyone unless they have a bleeding open wound that needs sutures. Sad to say this being a health care professional. I have been to 15 doctors in 1 year who have yet to treat me with a cure. Now the migraine thing....was a waste of time in an ER. I have phlebitis on my wrist and can't use my thumb and its been 3 days since the IV was there.

My wife started taking Reglan last year one week before she committed suicide at the age of 57. She had never been diagnosed in her life as depressed, but obviously she was at the end. Two years previous she had a hysterectomy as part of treatment for uterin cancer. Five months previous to her suicide she got sick and after many weeks was diagnosed with acid reflux. She was given Nexium for this, but continued to suffer from the reflux. I believe somewhere in this time she became depressed though she continued to deny it right up to the day she took her own life. I really do not know if the Reglan or the Nexium was behind her suicide, but I believe it is quite possible. I should be mad as hell about this, but for now I just can not get beyond the grief. I am putting this out here just to say you may want to be very careful with Reglan!!!

I had been prescribed Reglan for my Reflux condition and was so hopeful that this new RX would help me get through the night without losing my dinner!! Well, after only 3 days on the medication, I began to experience the most horrendous anxiety attack that I ever imagined possible!! I ended up in the ER because I swelled up like a balloon and couldn't breathe! I don't know if that is a direct affect of the Reglan, but I do know that I thought it was the end of the world for me!! I truly felt that if I could, I would have jumped out of my own skin! I couldn't breathe, I couldn't sit still, I couldn't lie down, I couldn't stand to have the ER machines hooked up to me or even stand to have the gown on!! I have several medical conditions which cause me to have to go through periodic testing and lots of blood work, etc. -- I've even been through successful brain surgery and never experienced the type of fear and anxiety I experienced after only 3 days on Reglan!! This is a very dangerous drug and any doctor considering the possibility of prescribing it to a patient, please re-consider if there is an alternative, and if not, please warn the patient about the unbelievable hell they may experience if their body cannot take this drug!! I don't want anyone to go through what I have experienced!! I am still feeling the effects and I have stopped taking the drug. I will NEVER touch Reglan again!! Thank you for the opportunity to share this experience with the hope that it will help stop others from having to go through it!!

I just came out of the ER 3 days ago and I believe that my side effects are from the Reglan that was given through the IV for nausea that I was experiencing. I was very tired when I came home and very dizzy. This was on a Tuesday. The next day (Wed.) I could not get out of bed because I was still very dizzy. I spent the entire day in bed sleeping. When I tried to walk I felt like I was walking sideways. On Thursday I was feeling a bit better and not dizzy anymore but very tired. I also have been having panic attack symptoms that just will not go away. I tried to drive my car and could not do it. My arms also feel very heavy and weak. Today is Friday and I am able to drive my car, but I still feel weak and tired. My arms are also still tingly and heavy. I am also still experiencing panic attack symptoms which are driving me crazy. I can not wait until I feel normal again because I did not have any of these symptoms when I went into the ER, so I truly believe the medicine is causing this. I will write back and update - hopefully I am back to normal again.

I was given Reglan in an IV early in my pregnancy for constant vomiting and dehydration. I was told it was the safest anti-nausea drug during pregnancy. As soon as the IV went in my arm I experienced anxiety and panic. By day three on this drug, I was in a severe panic attack with severe depression and thoughts of suicide. I have no history of mental illness. I went to the ER for help to talk with a counselor or psychiatrist. I can remember crying violently and saying that I was going to die. The ER doctor had me committed to a locked ward for the suicidal. I was kept there for 12 hours and released once the doctor at this facility was told by myself that I had no history of these feelings. She said that it was a side effect from the Reglan. This drug has caused me to still have a low grade depression. I have two kids and one on the way. I blame this drug for altering the quality of my life and my family's lives. If anyone knows a lawyer that deals with Reglan cases, let me know. I'd like to fight this. I can't believe this drug is still on the market.

I am 18 weeks pregnant and have been taking Reglan since i was about 6 or 7 weeks pregnant after being admitted for sever dehydration and hypermesis(i think the two are the same) I was having severe nausea and vomiting and couldn't keep water or food down and i was to the point where i didn't want to eat anything. This is my 3rd pregnancy and this is the longest that I had to deal with these symptoms. I was on phenergan anal suppository and Zofran which was supposed to stop the nausea and allow me to eat which at first it kept me sleeping. After i was admitted in high risk unit they gave me Reglan and took me off of the Zofran and phenegan and put me on potassium and reglan along with benadryl. Nothing has stopped the vomiting it has gone down but not subsided. I have been out of work and has advised the doctor that it isn't working and they still want me to take this pill. I don't think that it is safe to be on so many medications which my doctor wants me to take the zofran again. I am spiritual and there has been two many times where my meds have gone missing and i have been put in the position where i can't afford to buy more. i think it is a sign and i just keep having this bad feeling about the baby taking all these pills. My tongue numb sometimes. my sleep pattern is of i have fatigue at night and am tired through out the day. I am more paranoid than ever. I am going back to work and will just suffer the natural symptoms i have done with my other children. Taking prescription drugs during pregnancy is just not natural and i will not sacrafice my child for promise of only suppressed symptoms for my child any longer.

Have been waking up feeling sick to my stomach every morning for a month, eventually goes away after 3 or 4 hours but the feeling of having to vomit nothing was terrible. Went to the ER and was prescribed Reglan 4x a day. I now take 5 mg before most meals and usually a 10 mg only before bed. Makes me very drowsy, especially when I take 10 mgs, it's almost like I'm not even coherent. Another thing I noticed after only a few days of taking it is my eye started twitching and I have never ever had a problem with a twitching eye before and it has been twitching a dozen times a day. Also have to go to the bathroom a lot more often. I don't know if I should discontinue or what.
Definitely take the smallest dose possible.

I was prescribed Reglan 3x/day for the specific purpose of increasing my breast milk supply after my twins came home from the hospital. Although I was already nervous and tired, it seems that after three weeks on this pill, this medication had aggravated my symptoms and had in fact made me very sick. I was experiencing episodes of severe panic, passing out, dizziness, blurred vision, "brain fog", general anxiety, rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, as well as all of the listed side effects.
I was certainly not a person who suffered from these kind of symptoms prior to taking this medication, and although my doctor said it would be more likely that this was some kind of postpartum adjustment disorder, I did feel a gradual coming on and slacking off of the intensity of these symptoms around my building up and weening from the medicine. It is 2 months later and I still feel as though I am recovering.
Whatever I was going through, this medication should not have been given to me, or anyone who is in the postpartum time,as it AT LEAST aggravated my symptoms. I have read a lot from others who have posted stories of terrible long-lasting neurologiacal/mood disorders that they believe have been caused by Reglan. Also it seems that like me, these people have endured extended periods of suffering even after stopping use. I echo the sentiment of caution that has been expressed by others about using this drug. These side effects should be further investigated.

As a nursing mother, after three months of breastfeeding, my milk was decreasing. I was reluctant to take reglan, especially after picking up my prescription at the pharmacy and reading the side effects, I circled back to the drive through window and questioned the pharmacist as to whether I should really be taking it while breast-feeding. I also called and spoke with the nurse at my OB/GYN. Everyone continued telling me it was safe.I've taken reglan from 1 to 3 times a day for 3 months. I ended up taking it because I was convinced that the good trumped the bad since I would be able to feed my baby more of my milk. Anyway, yesterday, I found this site and now more than ever I know that I made the right decision to stop taking reglan immediately. My side-effects have included severe mood swings, depression, ,very negative thoughts, and anger. Reglan was the only drug that I was taking and l don't have a history of being angry or depressed. I'm looking forward to feeling like my normal self again and if I could turn back time, I would definitely breast feed my baby until my (natural) milk deminished and then use formula. That is my plan starting today. BREAST-FEEDING MOHTERS, FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH REGLAN, PLEASE DON'T TAKE IT. Formula is better than the risk.

My GP put me on Regan for reflux, after 3 months with no relief he told me to up the dose to 4x a day. I suffered severe depression, chills, body aches, fatigue and panic attacks. Finally, after taking the 4x a day dose for 30 days, I suffered a severe reaction with stroke-like symptoms. My Doctor never mentioned these side-effects and I already suffered from manic-depressive disorder. I thought I was going to die from a stroke or heart attack the last day I took it. After getting my refill, I read the adverse side effects from the accompanying leaflet and planned on discussing it with the Doctor. Three days later I suffered the really bad reaction and It was only because I read the leaflet provided by the RX store a few days earlier that I was aware it was the Reglan. I flushed every bit of it and listed it as an allergic med on my med card. I should have never been a candidate for Reglan because of my manic-depressive disorder and heart disease. Be an advocate . . . research new meds yourself and don't rely on physicians or pharmacists to warn you of side-effects or reactions to other medications your taking.

I took Reglan for two days 14 years ago. The second evening I became extremely jittery and had involuntary movement of my arms and legs that I could not stop.I was not able to sleep either. Since this was the only new medicine that was prescribed, I immediately stopped taking it. Fourteen years later I still battle with insomnia. It started abruptly that night. THIS MEDICINE IS DANGEROUS!!! PLEASE STOP TAKING IT IF YOU ARE ON IT!!!!!!

I went into the ER for a severe migraine headache, which they gave me beneryl and reglan. Within 2 minutes I suffered a severe anxiety attack. I have NEVER had one in my entire life. I had the worst thoughts racing through my mind, my body was uncontrollably shaking, and I was scared to death. The doctor just said "oh, you're a little edgy"...and gave me ativan which sedated me. I felt better when I left the hospital, but I have never forgotton that day. 2 days ago I had a large caffeinated coffee and all of a sudden my heart started palpatating. I immediately went into full panic attack mode because I associated that with how I felt in the ER. I went to my doctor, who gave me xanax to calm down, and i still ended up in the emergency room later that evening. The doctor told me that Reglan can stay in your system for up to a month, and the coffee may have triggered it to react. Doubtful, but a possibility. Or it couldn't just been the coffee. Very strage because I drink coffee all the time. So why am I all of a sudden having these attacks? Im scared to death that I will keep having them...advice from anyone???
