My daughter just had surgery, and was getting Reglan with Benadryl through her IV. She requested no Benadryl with the last dose, because she didn't want to be sleepy when her sister came to visit. Suddenly, her jaw clenched and her eyes rolled to one side (she said she couldn't control her face) and she became panicky, and fearful that the doctors wouldn't let her go home. She thought she was having a stroke or a seizure. An injection of Benadryl helped her to calm down, but she experienced tingling at the base of her neck and "felt funny" for a few days after...Now we know why they give the two drugs together!

I had an agonizing migraine this Saturday, with all the usual delightful symptoms: pain, violent vomiting,... Went to the ER. After many hours I was hooked up to an IV with Tegretol (an anti-seizure med that's effective with migraine) and Reglan (for the nausea). Within a couple of minutes after the IV drip started I realized something was wrong. My migraine pain was actually increasing. I felt a desperate sense of being connected to this IV that was feeding me drugs whose effects were suddenly unexpected. Then things spiraled from there. I went into a panic. This sense of panic was unlike anything I have ever experienced in my life (and I've had my share of hospital horrors). I thought my heart was going to explode. Luckily my friend was next to me. I told him to get a nurse. I told the nurse frantically that I didn't know what was happening to me, I was freaking out, but I begged him to do something. He said I was probably having an "anxiety attack", which can happen with Reglan ("anxiety" sounds like a euphemism for what I was living through, but whatever...). He moved quickly, and hooked up some Benadryl to the IV. I also asked him to get me out of the dark, airless room I was in, as I felt like I was going to choke from the claustrophobia. Between the Benadryl (which apparently counters the panic effects of a Reglan reaction) and standing out in a spacious, well-lit hallway, I felt a couple of degrees removed from hell. Anyhow, there's my Reglan tale. R.M., Newton, MA

I was breast feeding my 1 month old but I wasn't making enough milk for her and was supplementing. My doctor prescribed Reglan to help increase my milk supply and I have never been allergic or had any sort of reactions to any drugs before in my life, so I was fine with trying the drug. I had been taking it four times a day for 1 and a half days before I became incredibly depress and withdrawn from my baby. I felt like I didn't know how to hold her or comfort her. I just prayed that she would stay asleep. I begged my husband not to go to work the afternoon of the second day, but I knew he had to leave. Later that evening it got so bad. I felt like my skin was going to crawl off my body. My hands were shaking and I couldn't sit still. I didn't want to go near my baby. I knew something was wrong and I had to call my aunt to come over and take care of the baby for the rest of the night until my husband got home from work. I stopped taking the Reglan immediately and I was fine by the next morning. I was completely back to myself. I wouldn't advise anyone to take this drug. It's not worth it. It was the worst feeling I've ever had in my life.

Have taken Reglan just for just one and a half weeks to help with my diabetes related gastroparesis. Since taking it I have been unable to read, play computer games or even concentrate on TV. I chucked it yesterday morning and already feeling a bit better. I am gonna try again maybe in a few days just to confirm that this drug is the cause, but it looks awfully coincidental. That's why I'm looking up side effects on the web today, gave them no thought until yesterday.

My OBGYN prescribed REGLAN to me to INCREASE PRODUCTION OF BREAST MILK when I was trying to nurse my baby. I was jittery the first day; very anxious the second. On the third day, I thought I was loosing my mind. I stopped taking the Rx, and by the end of the fourth day I felt normal. I was told that I was allergic to that family of drugs... but I would not advise anyone to take this drug unless they knew ALL of the adverse reactions. -Nicole, Alabama

My husband took Reglan for 6 month for acid reflux disease. (Prescribed by the VA, Fort Wayne, IN). After SEVERAL doctor visits for shaking, sleepiness, TD etc... a psychiatrist suggested his symptoms were due to this drug. It has been over 2 years now; he is still disabled, has spent over 4 weeks in a mental hospital, and will most likely be mentally challenged for the rest of his life. This drug should be banned. Please be careful on what drugs you take and weigh the side effects to the benefits of the drug.

I was given Reglan as treatment for migraine headaches, and became very restless, depressed, angry, and had thoughts of suicide. I could not sit still or stand still, and nothing I did would make this feeling any better. This effect lasted for about 8 hours after the dosage. I didn't connect it with the Reglan until I took it a second time. I don't know if Reglan is similar to Compazine, but I was also given IV Compazine in the E.R. for migraine, and the effects were 10 times worse. I honestly think that if my husband had not been with me both times, and knew to look for side effects, I don't know what I would have done to end this horrible feeling. I found out later that my father had been given Reglan for his stomach, and ended up so depressed that my mother took his hunting rifle and all the knives out of the house because my dad was having thoughts of suicide. He ended up checking into a phychiatric hospital. When he got off the Reglan, he was totally fine and back to normal. When I told my doctor about these symptoms, the doctor chuckled and said, "I've never heard of that side effect with either of these drugs." My dad's doctor had the same reaction about the Reglan, but changed his mind when he saw how different my dad acted on Reglan as opposed to off Reglan.

Our family is suffering due to the bad side effects of Regan. I would like to talk to other families. My email address is: ramona.price@iwon.com Before 9/11 I was involved in a class action suit but have not heard from the lawyers since that time. My husband, and childrens father, is still mentally handicapped due to this drug. If you or your loved ones are taking other medicines to off-set the effects of reglan..PLEASE be careful. We have had negative side effects from drugs prescribed to 'help' him come back. Thank you.
