Reglan and experiences

I have had two AWFUL experiences with Reglan!
First time, I was in the ER with high blood pressure and a very bad headache. To treat the headache, I was given a combo of Reglan IV and "unknown". Right away I started sweating and freaking out! The only thing i could focus on was leaving. I felt this overwhelming desire to pull out my own IV and go home! I was so tired but couldn't rest... my mind just raced with depressing thoughts. They discharged me in this state... I didn't argue... I couldn't get out fast enough. However, I hardly made it home. I can not believe I was allowed to drive home in such a state.
Not knowing what meds caused me to have such a reaction... it happened again last week!
I was in the Emergency Room having treatment for a spinal leak from a spinal tap a few days prior. I complained of back pain (no kidding) and was given meds in my IV. Same thing...all over again! This time my mother witnessed the horrible reaction. The nurse only gave me a cold towel for my head and it took 2 days to start feeling back to normal... NEVER will I have this medication again.

My doctor prescribed Reglan to help increase my breast milk supply. After a few days I started getting a stiff jaw. After several hours it got so intense that I felt I needed to go to the doctors. I called my husband at work and asked if he could come home and take me to the doctors. He worked about 25 minutes away. By the time he got home I was screaming in pain - something I had never done in my life before. He took me straight to Urgent Care. I advised them that I thought I was having a reaction to the Reglan I had taken. By this time by jaw was spasming so bad that it felt like my jaw and teeth were going to shatter in my mouth. The doctor said Reglan would not do this and gave me a shot and said to go home and contact my Dentist. While I was waiting for the paperwork I started having problems breathing and swallowing. At this point Urgent Care discharged me and told me to go to ER. Once I was at ER and finally got seen I advised the doctor of my symptoms and that I thought it had to do with the Reglan. He actually listened to me and agreed that it was the Reglan and said he would administer a shot of Benadryl to counteract the effects of it. It took them over a hour from that point to get me the shot. It was the longest and most painful hour of my life. I was literally sat on a bed in a hallway at the ER screaming in pain. Within minutes of the Benadryl being administered I was feeling 100% better. I highly recommend seeking medical attention at the very first sign of any muscle spasms or involuntary movement while you are on this drug. I needed a uterine biopsy so my OB/GYN prescribed something to dilate me. He also prescribed Reglan for my stomach. I didn't know at the time that's what it was or anything about the drug. He said to take the two meds together. I took 2 doses and after taking the second dose I got a tingle that went up my spine and threw me into a full blown panic attack for 48 hours solid. I couldn't relax so I would walk in and out our sidewalk and then I'd be so exhausted I'd have to lie down which was horrible. My heart was racing and I couldn't relax any part of my body. My entire body ached. Our small dog jumped on the bed and I thought I would die from the movement. I couldn't talk without the pain and I couldn't concentrate when someone would speak to me. I kept trying to rest by going to each part of my body and talking myself into relaxing. I'd start at my toes and by the time I would get to me ankles it was full blown panic again. My husband tried to give me a gentle hug and it was SO painful. I couldn't eat or drink.
I called the doctor and they insisted it was from the dilator but I knew it was the Reglan.
That was months ago and things have not changed. I still get a tingle in the base of my neck that goes up my spine and I get the panic attack. I can't sit and watch TV because when I relax it starts. I keep telling everyone that I feel like I'm not the same person I was before I took the drug but I don't know how to describe it to anyone. You had to go through it and feel what I felt to understand it completely. I fear I'm going to feel like this the rest of my life.
I'm now seeing a therapist that is helping me work through the attacks. Hopefully that will work. They put me on Celexa to help with the attacks, but that has side effects too. I tried cutting back on them but then the attacks got worse again. My therapist is well informed and knows about the Reglan and how bad it is. He is also taking me slowly off Celexa and replacing it with something else. I've been on Wellbutrin for years and have never had any problems with that.
My family is very supportive and that helps a lot. I feel very fortunate to have them.
I read all the experiences that everyone wrote and I can see me in all of them to some extent. I feel for every one of you and hope you all can have some peace in your lives.

I felt extremely hyper after receiving a dosage of Reglan. I was in the hospital after suffering a terrible bout of food poisoning and I became extremely nauseated. The physician gave me this medication in order to control the nausea. After about 10 minutes, I felt worse than before going to the hospital. I felt extremely hyper and could not sit still. I felt extremely terrified and did not know why...I felt like I wanted to take off running and throw myself in front of the nearest car or jump from the roof of a building. I started crying uncontrollably. I told my doctor how I felt and she stated "some people experience this feeling...about 1 in 1000 people". I began to wonder why such a drug was on the market if this is what happens. I'm wondering how many people have felt similar and actually acted on their feelings.

The scary thing is this...I believe the estimate of 1 in 1000 people suffering side effects is wrong. While at the hospital a nurse told me there was another patient who experienced the very same experiences on the morning my dosage was injected.

I have never felt so awful in my life and I'm hoping there will be a class action lawsuit for this drug.

My wife started taking Reglan last year one week before she committed suicide at the age of 57. She had never been diagnosed in her life as depressed, but obviously she was at the end. Two years previous she had a hysterectomy as part of treatment for uterin cancer. Five months previous to her suicide she got sick and after many weeks was diagnosed with acid reflux. She was given Nexium for this, but continued to suffer from the reflux. I believe somewhere in this time she became depressed though she continued to deny it right up to the day she took her own life. I really do not know if the Reglan or the Nexium was behind her suicide, but I believe it is quite possible. I should be mad as hell about this, but for now I just can not get beyond the grief. I am putting this out here just to say you may want to be very careful with Reglan!!!
