I have been taking Remeron for about 3 weeks now. At first, I thought it was awesome because I could sleep. But I'm sleeping about 12 hours a night, and still feel groggy all day. I've gained 6 lbs. in less than two weeks. I have breakouts of sweating, compulsive eating, anxiety, and I feel like my heart is racing all over the place, even in my throat. My doctor increased my dosage and said to give it another 6 to 8 weeks. I don't feel any difference in my mood, maybe a little more irritable at times. I am confused and don't know what to do.

My psychiatrist has me on two 20mg Adderall everyday. He just added Remeron to my cycle and it ruined everything! It's hard to find something for anxiety/depression that works with the Adderall well. I've tried everything but this one scares me. SSRIs and SNRIs usually make my head tingle, more anxious than usual, and unpredictable mood-wise. After starting Remeron for about a week, I had a massive strange hours long panic attack. I tried to slit my ankle, screamed and yelled things at everyone I came into contact with, walked off down the street three separate times (three diff. people had to come find me every time). My skin felt "creepy-crawly" and I was SO angry and couldn't get away from the anger. I'm still waiting on the Dr. to call me but I told his secretary I just am NOT taking it. I'll take the nerves, shakiness, and sweatiness ANY DAY over feeling crazy like that. Angry and wanting to die.. not for me.

Finally people are telling the truth about this drug.
I am 17 and have had trouble falling asleep since I was two years old. After a few not noticeable prescriptions was prescribed 15mg of Remeron. I have eaten healthy my whole life and never really cared for sweets before this drug. I literally was eating an entire pie every night. I couldn't even think about anything except for how hungry I was. Running out of sweets was honestly what I imagine heroin withdrawals are like. This went on for a few months and I gained about ten pounds. I recently I ruptured my spleen about a two months ago and have been in constant pain since then. Because of the pain I barely sleep at all. 2-3 hours of solid sleep max, so I was prescribed klonopin and went cold turkey on the remeron. I am now pretty much pain free and more social. Is it possible the remeron increased the pain?

I have had some interesting times with Remeron. I take 30 mg at night. I have gained about 20 pounds on it! It is true what others have written here it makes some people have an eating compulsion. It is hard to describe the feeling but at night you feel like you are forever hungry. I have found I can cope with this hunger side effect by carefully watching what I am eating and switching to healthy snacks like fruits and veggies. I have been on it for 6 months. I tried to go off the medication several days ago but I felt so depressed being off it. I think some of the depression is withdrawal from it. It helps me sleep better and lowers anxiety during the day. It cuts back my panic attacks also. I would not recommend it if you are already a heavy eater. I can imagine it would have a disastrous wait gain. Remeron makes you sleepy too during the day. I find I have to give myself 11 hrs for the sedation to wear off. So I take it at 9:30 and go to bed at 10:00. If I take it later I have problems staying awake at work. Even with the hunger problem and sedation I plan to stay on this medication since it has helped my depression and it doesn't have GI upset I had with Lexapro or Effexor. If you have sleep problems and anxiety Remeron might help you. Make sure you keep up with exercise and watch portion control with food and you can cope with the side effects.

I have been taking Remeron for about 1 week for bi-polar. The most profound side effects that I have, deal with concentration, motor skills, problems sleeping, and an increase in weight (5 pounds) and appetite.

I have been on Remeron for 3months, and have went from 125 lbs. to 144 lbs. I want to eat all the time, especially at night. I always feel hungry. I also feel like my legs are swollen, and they ache when I walk on the treadmill, trying to exercise and quit gaining. The depression is better, and I sleep very well, but I am going to really get depressed about my sudden weight gain. Never was this big, except at 9 months pregnant. I am stopping this drug. I also have numbness in my right hand. I don't know what that is from. Last of all, I am more forgetful, and a little OCD now about things.

I have been having difficulty with my legs from the knees down since taking Remeron for over a year. Normal walking is a chore, but let me get in a department or grocery store and I am in such agony with leg pain from the knee to my ankles. It is a heavy, throbbing ache. Pain pills, heat and sleep is the only cure. Never had this problem before this. If I ween myself off them, my migraines come back with a vengence.

I have been taking Remeron for about 14 months. I have gained about 12 pounds. It's almost like a compulsion to eat. Don't get me wrong I already liked to eat but at this point I have a crazy urge. I started having night sweats. I used to sleep with a lot of covers and that is ABSOLUTELY not possible any more. I've also noticed that I sweat more during the day. I was never a person who sweat a lot and this is totally new to me. But I sleep very soundly and that was the initial reason to start taking the meds.

Been taking remeron for two years and switched to a generic version 8 weeks ago. I am starting to notice my ability to concentrate has deteriorated and I am becoming forgetful. I am taking remeron for anxiety and insomnia. Its not the silver bullet for anxiety that seroxat was but it has really helped the insomnia. I have gained weight and no matter how much I exercise I cannot lose weight. The memory problems are affecting my life to a point where I will go back to seroxat and find another solution for the insomnia.

I have been taking Remeron for about a year and a half. I started out with
30mg at bed time. It helped eating habits and helped me sleep. However I started gaining Weight big time. I am a 52 year old male and weighed 130 Pounds before taking the medication. I now weigh 196 pounds and have cysts on both of my breasts. I went to see a cancer clinic and was told there was no cancer ! Thank GOD , However the doctor told me it was a possible side effect of the Remeron. So I stopped taking Remeron cold turkey
2 day's ago and so far so good. I hope I don't have any withdrawal from stopping but I WILL NEVER TAKE IT AGAIN !!!!!!

My mother has been on Remeron for four years. She started for depression and received the prescription from a psychiatrist. Our family raised questions about the drug with her psychiatrist after she began to have rage issues and became very disagreeable. My mother and her psychiatrist insisted the was doing fine on the medicine. Since that time things have only escalated. She now gets Remeron from her family doctor. She has become more and more enraged, throwing things and has gotten physical with my father, her husband of 46 years. He has been living with my sister for the past month because of her extreme behavior. She is estranged from all family, (except one son) and friends because of her behavior. We are very concerned for her. She has denied still taking Remeron but we did not believe this. And has recently found she has a newly filled prescription for 30mg.
I have called her doctor and relayed all of her extreme behavior. Just hope and pray he does not continue to prescribe this drug for her. It has torn my entire family apart. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I have been on Remeron for last month, the first week was wonderful. I fell asleep for 12hrs the first night. The following nights of the first week were great, I slept like I hadn't in years. The third week it started to all crash down on me. I couldn't sleep, my legs felt like I had bugs crawling all over me, I kept my poor husband up all night, getting up and down, kicking and turning all night. I then started realizing I was angry over nothing. My mother is very sick and will not get better (one of the reason I started Remeron in the first place) and I am noticing I am irritated if she needs something or just calls to say hello. I don't want to talk to anyone, not my friends, husband or even my children. My son is a diabetic and I told my doctor if I took any medicine it couldn't just knock me out, I had to be coherent enough to take care of his needs. The medicine didn't bother me the first couple weeks. The third week, I would forget how much insulin to give him, and that is a scary feeling if you gave your son the right amount of medicine. I would think after I gave him his medicine, did I give him the right amount or am I going to make him go into shock. I also have gained weight, I have never liked sweets and that is all I think about. I go to dr. this week, hopefully she will find a new med that won't make me forget everything, want to be such a hag to everyone, and help with those crazy leg tingles. I was on 15 mgs to start out on, I even took an extra one the other night because of the leg tingles, and it made it worse. So I took an over the counter sleep aid and I finally fell asleep at 4:00 in morning. I am so glad I found the site, I thought I was losing my mind. Thank You to all of you, you have helped me tremendously.

My father who is going to be 80 on July 15th started taking remeron back in January of 2008 for depression he was in and out hospital and rehab since October. He almost died in October but he fought his way and hes physically doing better now. He was put on remeron cuz his depression was so bad that he just wante to give up, he started on half a pill at bed time..(7.5 i believe) he was doing his exercises and again..he bounced back from a deep depression within days :) February 7th 2008 my dad finally came home after being away for 4months he became very very talkative like hyper, couldn't sleep and got agitated very easily(thats not my dad) on June 18th 2008 the doctor that comes to the house asked what was going on..i told her HES NOT SLEEPING..and hes very like hyper, so she INCREASED HIS REMERON!!! full dose 15mg. well.. July 2nd things changed for the worse, He talked about things that happened years ago, he went as far back as the days of THE DEPRESSION..yeaaaars ago;
just things he never talked bout before...July 3rd he was showing signs of being VERY LOST..VERY DISORIENTED...like he would get up to use his potty(as he calls it) and thats rite next to his bed, and he went rite past it and into my kitchen way. just standing there, NOT KNOWING WHERE HE WAS. and he would repeat himself over and over and over, not remembering what he said, :( very sad )
The 4th of July i had him taken to the HOSPITAL to be checked out cuz he just wasn't acting right, i thought maybe he was on the verge of another stroke his BP was 150/101 HIGH....i think maybe cuz of the agitation,(HE GOT MAD...DIDN'T WANT TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL: )but i needed to know what was going on..they sent him home, they said possible early dymentia, NOT..i don't agree....june 18th -july 2nd IS EXACTLY 2 WEEKS..WHICH IS HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR MEDICATION TO GET INTO THE SYSTEM...i believe its the REMERON causing these problems.i took him to his psych and he asked my what was it increased? i said the doc increased it cuz he wasn't sleeping, well the psych was NOT HAPPY wit this...he was like U CANT DO THAT ITS NOT FOR SLEEP ITS FOR DEPRESSION..U DO THAT AND UR GONNA HAVE BIG PROBLEMS.... Well thats exactly what we are having. So then i was told to decrease him back down to 7.5 and if no change in a week -2 weeks...to stop it...well im stopping it tonight. I am hoping to see him better soon..if anyone agrees with me PLEASE LET ME KNOW...he was perfectly fine b4 the increase in this medication...BESIDE THE EXCESSIVE TALKING..but i am willing to deal that..i just want him back to the way he was. Its soo frustrating and sad to see him this way :(

I was prescribed Remeron (Avanza in Australia) for a neurotransmitter deficiency that was causing "depression-like" symptoms including lack of energy, low libido, poor sleep, pessimistic thoughts, brain fog etc etc. I really wanted to give Remeron a good try because most other anti-ds that I've taken have an even worse effect on my sleep. Remeron was good taken at 30mg to help me sleep (I found 15mg knocked me out even more and was ridiculously tired the next day). I however progressively slipped into depression over a period of 3 weeks where I had zero energy, complete apathy and was really irritable to the point of having a massive blow up with family and girlfriend. I was told these effects would lessen in time and I would feel "lighter" and "better" - This didn't happen at 4 weeks and although I should keep going at a higher dose before knowing for sure if this medication doesn't work for me, I read on this page that feelings of irritability and agitation continue while on the med - This is cause enough for me to not be on this medication. Within 48 hours of stopping, I feel better already! Remeron - apparently works for most but not for me.

I began 15mg of Remeron per day about 1 month ago. At first, it was wonderful. I slept better than I had in years and my depression was reduced greatly. I felt hope for the first time in ages. However, about a week into it, I started to become aggitated VERY easily. I would get angry at anything. This has not subsided at all...in fact, it's worse. Now I wake in the middle of the night with my mind racing and either in a rage or STARVING. I eat a lot. It's nice to have my appetite back, but I crave sweets too much. I can accept that symptom if it wasn't for the rage and inability to stop my mind from switching between utter numbness to anger. I'm going to give it longer, in the hopes that it brings me back to where I was when I started taking it. If this keeps up though, I'll be in trouble.

hey my name is kaylen and i have been taking remeron for about 5 months now. i liked it at first as it definetly helped me sleep soundly and not wake up to a throbbing head. i especially liked that it helped me to concentrate about 50% better than i had been after a sudden and unexplainable extremely deep depression. i have been diagnosed with bipolar and OCD and have been on a host of other medications but am now on lithium, klonopin, seroquel, and remeron. the thing that irritates me about remeron is how HUNGRY i have been. and its not even that...i eat when i am not hungry at all, i just cant stop it. i have gained 50+ pounds in 5 months and i cannot understand why this medicine has to have this effect. can anyone relate?

Horrific drug. I was prescribed it for anxiety-related insomnia, but only took half-doses (7.5 mg) every third night or so. Still, I began having sharp electric jolts in my head upon awakening, eventually getting to the point that I was afraid to sleep for fear of the terrifying explosions in my head that would be triggered by saccadic ocular motion, pulse, or sometimes nothing at all. They go away within about 10-30 minutes. The net effect on sleep was devastating, of course, and with its "20-40 hour" half-life and the rule of thumb that it takes 7 half-lives to clear, even 6 days after my last dose I have been feeling residual effects. This is apparently rare and your mileage may vary, but the doc can be very quick to prescribe something that's dangerously powerful. Flushing these nasty things!

I was on 30 mg of remeron for 7 months for depression. This drug is a nightmare! Severe cravings for sweets, and an unsatified hunger that nothing seemed to please me at night, munched about anything. I gained weight and slept through about anything at all. 3 months ago I developed a constant anger/rage feeling, and I was ready to take on anybody who crossed me. Sometimes I even became violent, I would break things, scream and yell at my BF for no reasons at all. BF left a few times, and friends stopped coming around. I felt like I was going insane. I would be happy one minute, and then either angry or sad and crying for no reason at all. I have started to ween myself off this drug for 8 weeks. I DO NOT recommend remeron.

When I took it, it was because I was only able to naturally sleep 1h per night, and after a month of this I was fairly suicidal. It did knock me out, hard, and it kept doing so every night I took it. I slept at least 10h a night and was groggy most of the time. It did decrese my anxiety and my chronic pain though and got me to sleep at night, so all that was good. Plus I do tend to not eat enough, so this increased my appetite, and I agree it increased cravings for sweets, but I needed it since I was working out 5 days a week. Now that I am off it, my shoulder hurts to much to work out at all anymore, and I still have trouble sleeping, but my depression is under control so I'd rather not take it just to sleep better. I will have to find some other way to control chronic pain so I can get back to the gym.

Hi guys, i have been taking remeron for just over 3 months and i had no side effects after the first month onwards. Then i started to feel like the effects were wearing off so a week ago my doctor doubled my dosage to 30mg. Lastnight i had my first 'anxiety' moment for 4 months and this morning i have woken feeling EXACTLY like i did before i started taking and medication. Racing thoughts, dizzy, irritable, head ache, neck ache and worry. Its like the increase in dosage has sped up the wearing-off process. I dont know whether to stick with it or goto docs. Anyone experienced anything similar?

I'm on 15mg dose. For the first few nights it knocked me out, then for the next four I woke up an hour after falling asleep and vomited!!
Then I had night sweats for a few nights (although I was also having hot flushes in the day due to chronic stress and anxiety so who knows). Then I seemed to have some insomnia and restless leg syndrome (I think that's what it's called) for about a week. It took a month for the anxiety and depression to decrease, but at this point I did experience a noticable difference which made it all worthwhile. However two months in this seems to be coming back.
For the last two months i've been eating chronically and my digestive system seems somewhat sedated!! Don't know if should increase dose or try something else.

I've been taking remeron for about 3 months and I have gained 15-20lbs. It increased my appetite especially at night. I would have an intense cravings for sweets, and it seemed like I never would get full. I hate this, everyone keeps asking me why am I gaining so much weight. I tell them its the remeron, and they all think I should just stop taking it, but it's not that simple. I've been struggling w/ extreme insomnia and depression for 2 years, with little or no relief from many other meds. It helps me sleep most of the time, but I don't know if it's really helping my deppresion. I'm going to speak w/ my doc about trying something else because I can't stop gaing weight, and that makes me even more depressed.

My husband has been taking Remeron for about a week. The first effect was, totally knocked out and slept for almost 24 hours. That soon wore off and now he is abusing the drug he takes not the 2 at bed time but 4 throughout the night. He has used up 22 pills in one week. He is not sleeping at all and is extreamly diffacult to live with. He is edgy & rude to me and our 16 year old daughter. He feels like he can do and say anything, not just to us but to anyone. He also had nightmares and talked all night in his sleep when he was taking 30mg a night. I hate this drug and what it is doing to our family. My husband has a brain injury(1988) but he has few motor skill problems just depression and cognitive trouble. Has anyone had suicidal thoughts? He has had them in the past and I'm hopeing we won't have to go through that again. He cut his wrist in 2001, and spent 2 weeks in the mental hospital. I know this is an extream case but I need help.

Have been on many psych drugs in the past, and was for a week or so on Remeron which gave me significant side effects and so I had to call/visit the doctor and right away got off the Remeron. I do NOT recommend this for anyone. It is too risky.
Remeron gave me significant trouble with my Memory/Concentration. I had a very difficult time working. I could only do the easy things and could barely even drive. I had to tell myself to stop at the stop signs. I need my brain to work, and it affected my ability to remember things, it affected my ability to understand what I was reading. It affected my ability to read written notes. It gave me significant trouble in speaking and walking, it gave me a retarded or lower in intelligence affect. My speech has NOT been the same and this was FIVE years ago that I took it, and only for a week or so! I speak slow and then later my speech changes. Doctors do NOT know how to fix it, and I went to like four doctors and the hospital to fix my voice changes. I am now UNABLE to work. I have worked for about three years. I can't get disability either at least not yet. Remeron caused me to go to the psych hospital as I had difficulty at home with family coping, and dr could not figure out what to do. Do NOT take it!! Do not let it ruin your memory and do not let it ruin your concentration abilities.

My doctor told me for the first two weeks I would feel groggy. So I took my first dose(15 mg.) on Friday night, knowing I didn't have any major plans on Saturday. Well it's a good thing I had no plans, I slept for 30 hours. Yes I do agree about the eating, in between my 30 hours of sleeping I ate tons of food mostly junk! When I did wake up, i was still in a daze, and very irritable(more than before) I'm tring this pill one more night. I'm cutting it in half and if that doesn't work, off to the doctor's I go.

I have been taking 30mg for a year and I have gained about 16 pounds I was 129lbs now i'm 145lbs. Started having terrible dreams more like nightmares. Tired all day long no motivation felt very heavy constantly eating without trying to. No pms no headaches increased sex drive but good being that i didn't have one. Once off meds, weight came off pretty fast, bad pms, headaches, decreased sex drive, irritable, dreams stopped. Overall good medication just wish the weight didn't keep going up and there were no unusual dreams.

My husband has been on Remeron for about one year now. He
sleeps like the 'dead', so sound, if the house where to catch fire, he would never wake up even with our dog barking. He can barely hear the alarm clock in the mornings. He also sleeps with earplugs, as he says noises keep him from falling to sleep. Also, he has night sweats so badly. He is drenched every night. He takes one 45mg per night, but he has now cut that to 1/2 pill per night and he still sleeps far to soundly and has the night sweats. Are these side-effects, and does anyone else out there suffer from these symptoms? Send me an e-mail reply. Guest

Yes, a definite weight gain. About 14 pounds in the past
year. Dieting and excercise have not phased the pounds.
He also has the very vivid dreams, more like nightmares. Feels tired throughout the day, cannot wait for bedtime, but, has no trouble falling asleep and sleeps very sound.

Increased libido (maybe from decreased depression) but after years of being accustomed to Elavil, I find premature ejaculation with Remeron to be very problematic. Almost no staying power at all (I'm serious about this). I know Remeron is supposed to decrease sexual side effects but this may be going too far.

I was taking remeron sol-tabs (15mg) once at night for mild depression and inability to sleep. I have gained about 15 lbs. I stopped taking 3 weeks ago.....and have had extreme irritability ever since......Very disturbing.....But frankly...I would rather be irritable than continue to gain weight.....Bad news this drug.....they say I am in a minority....but I believe that is not the case...I have seen too many people post issues w/ weight gain.....Being and getting fat is depressing........
