I've been on Singulair for just over one year. The Rx worked wonderful for my asthma. But I've also had chronic hives during that time. They usually start around my neck, face and arms and then continued to spread from there. I used Benadryl to control the hives. The hives got more intense as I continued use of Singulair and the Benadryl became less effective. I was also told by my doctor that the drug would not cause hives. After reading the posts here, I will never use it again. I also experienced some weight gain and eye twitching, which has been noted by other postings.

Wow I can't believe what I have been reading. I have had Asthma, chronic hives and alergic dermatitis on my hands. Have been taking, for years, puffers and Reactine daily. My doctor put me one singulair for the second time, the first time being 8 years ago but I could'nt remember why I stoped until the first night of trying the medication again. With in a hour my face felt like I was in a sauna.I could'nt sleep because the air coming from my nose was burning hot. I also felt tired the next day and cranky. I took it the second day on the advice of my pharmacist. He said to keep going for a week to see if this side effect subsides. He had never heard of this side effect but since it happened twice it could not be coincidence. So I took it the second day, the burning was worse and lasted all day. going from my nose to behind my eyes. I was also feeling depressed and tired. i stoped taking the pill last night. today I am feeling a little burning at times when I am anxious and an ear ache. Even though In just two days I could feel a difference with my breathing and hives, side effects are not worth it I am staying off singulair and going to my doctor again

We are yet another success story after taking our 3 1/2 year old son off of Singulair three weeks ago, and I have this website to thank for it. We put my son on Singulair approximately 1 year ago due to his asthma. While his asthma symptoms did get at least somewhat better, he complained of many of the side effects that have been listed on this website--tummy aches, itching for no reason, withdrawn, depressed, uncooperative, bruised easily, unexplained case of chronic hives, nightmares, and trouble falling and staying asleep though clearly exhausted. He also developed a dry cough over the course of six weeks or so that surfaced every few days, though he was not otherwise sick. I found this website when my husband suggested that the Singulair may be causing the cough. I had never connected all of his other symptoms until reading the stories about other children on Singulair. Prior to being on Singulair, my son was the most curious, outgoing and interactive child and I can't tell you how great it is to have him back to his old self. The most interesting thing to me is how another mom that knew my son before he started Singulair commented that she was so glad to see him back to his old self again. My mother has also noticed a huge difference in his behavoir and has commented numerous times that it is nice that he is back to his old self. Now that school is starting again and cold season is quickly approaching I, like others that have posted, am worried about what medication will control his asthma if he has not outgrown it. But . . . I'm willing to experiment with any alternatives to keep him off of Singulair. If anyone has suggestions for alternative medications, please share your insights with the rest of us.

Started on 10mg of singulair almost 4yrs ago for chronic hives, never had asthma or allergies but after the hives disappeared my allergist kept me on singulair for my breathing. Lost almost 50 lbs at the gym and was breathing fine, running 1-5 mi a day, now if I stop taking singulair I feel tired, and feel tightness in my chest and throat, shallow breathing. Sometimes it feels like I could just stop breathing. Stopped for a week and a 1/2 but had to take again because of feelings described. Am going to try and take every 2-3 days and then try and wean myself off entirely. No nightmares, I usually don't remember dreams anyway.

I am so glad I looked up the side effects of this drug and that I'm not imagining things! I've also been taking Singulair and Zyrtec over the past two years for chronic hives and have gained a tremendous amount of weight. In addition, I have experienced trouble sleeping, terrible nightmares, daytime grogginess and am much more impatient than when I don't take the medication. I work out like crazy and never had a weight problem until I started taking this drug. No more!

I stopped taking singular because it was very costly and i am also on zyrtec also, thought maybe just one med will do the trick ,but after 24 hours without the singulair i had asthma simptoms felt like my chest was burning and i couldn't exhale i have never ever had asthma. the reson im on singular and zyrtec is for chronic hives. after reading the symptoms i recalled having night mares and twice had cramps in my calves.
Im going to stop the med and go back to benidril
