I went to the dermatologist and was diagnosed with a severe case of hives/rash. Has anyone ever been prescribed Singulair in combination with Xyzal for hives? He also prescribed Tagamet for the stomach problems apparently these two drugs can cause. I am very afraid to take this but talked to two different doctors that are telling me to take my medicine and are getting angry at me for not wanting to take it an are getting impatient with me for being scared about it and asking questions. I was also prescribed a Lidex cream that has steroids in it even after telling the doctor that I just got off Prednisone for a sinus infection last month and had a really bad reaction to the Prednisone (steroid). He still gave me the steroid cream and said "this is a topical you won't have any side effects with this and your reaction couldn't possibly have been from the Prednisone, it had to be from the antibiotic" If anyone has heard of or taken the combination of Xyzal and Singulair for hives or skin problems please post me a response before I go get these prescriptions filled. All four of these will cost me almost $100 because the Xyzal is $40 and the Singulair is $25, they do not offer a generic for these two money makers. I have insurance and still will cost me a hundred for all four (steroid cream and Tagamet as well). Please someone let me know about this combo and if you have been given for hives as well. I don't know why I am given the Singulair at all. It causes hives in some people from what I have been reading. I can see the Xyzal because it is an antihistamine, that's fine but the Singulair seems to be a cause of hives. Doctor mentioned something about H1 and H2 inhibitors or something but said it so fast and speaks with such an accent I couldn't understand what he was trying to tell me. Please help before I get really bad reaction and have to go to ER like last month with the Prednisone. Thank you and God Bless.

My daughter whom is 8 years old has been diagnosed with asthma since age 3, she has been on a nebulizer with Pulmicort since then. Well in December of 2005, our Pulmonologist put her on Singulair. In January of 2006 she began losing her hair. We have been to 6 different doctors, she has had a scal culture and a biopsy of her scalp tissue done as well. All tests have some back good. Then our dermatologist tells me yesterday that Singulair can cause itching. So now I am wondering if the itching on her scalp is causing the hair to break and fall off. The top of her head is so thin because the hair has fallen off. Not the root, it is breaking before the root. Do any of you know if this has happened before. My daughter sees a Pediatric Lung Pulmonologist at Children's Hostpital. I really think if this was a side effect from the med, wouldn't he have told us? He did see her balding in Feb. Any ideas would be appreciated... Thanks alot, Rhonda

My son is 7 years old. He has been taking Singulair for about 4 months. His pediatrician switched him to Singulair after I complained that he was having severe mood swings, depression and anxiety. I suspected that the Pulmacort he was taking for asthma could be to blame. He still has some of these problems, but I think they have improved, however, he has suddenly developed a petichiea rash (I don't know if I spelled that correctly! It's a rash that looks like broken blood vessles all over his body). He looks AWFUL. I took him to 3 pediatricians and a dermatologist. The blood and urine tests they did on him all came back normal. The dermatologist found a picture and description in his book of this condition. It is called Chronic Pigmented Purpura, which basically means 'broken blood vessels'. He said the cause was unknown and it would "go into remission in 1 or 2 YEARS!" Anyway, I called my pharmacist and asked if this condition could be a possible side effect of Singulair. He said from the Singulair literature that a 'vascularitic rash (whatever that is) developed in 1.6% of Singular patients, which was .4% higher than the ones not taking it'. Has anyone out there been experiencing a rash like this??? I don't want to keep my son on a drug that would do this to him, but his asthma is much better since he started the Singulair. I don't know what to do.

After five-month use of Singulair two small red rosettes appeared on my waist and - symmertically - on my abdomen. and they developed to big (5-6 cm) cocarde-like blotches during some days. Prevously I did not recognized the reason of this problem. My asthma status became better, so I breaked the use of Singulair. Later, when I started the usage of S. again, the symtomes appeared again drastically, so I stopped the use of Singulair . My dermatologist declared my symtoms serious side effect of Singulair and ordered p.o. steroid thetapy.

I have a 19 month old baby and she was prescribed Singulair when she was 15 months old after a bad bout of pneumonia. So she has been on it for 4 months and I haven't seen any severe side effects. To be honest, I am one of those people that follows whatever her pediatrician recommends and I trust that after 25 years as a doctor, he knows what he is doing. But all of these reports are now terrifying me. I haven't noticed any change in her behavior or moods, and she has always been a very rambunctious baby so if there has been any change (like increased aggression or anxiety) it is hard to tell in such a small child. Has anyone had any experience giving Singulair to a child this young (under 2)?
