I am finally writing after reading these posts since the end of April. That is when I took my 11 year old son off singulair, in an act of desperation. He has been on singulair on and off for about five years for seasonal allergies. He started again in mid-March so it could get into his system, before the allergies started. Immediately thereafter his behavior changed. He was arguing on a daily basis. He would hit, kick or trip me when he was angry. He was starting to destroy things in anger. He seemed to be fueled by anger. It was affecting the whole family. He was starting fights with his younger brother, my husband's heart was palpitating and I was crying every day. I heard about Singulair side effects and looked it up. I saw that it caused behavioral changes and out of desperation, took him off, not knowing what to expect. We had three days of total peace, then on the fourth day another outburst. Then my son told me he had taken a singulair the night before. That was it. I threw every pill in the garbage. He no longers acts like that. It's been almost two months so I am convinced it was the Singulair. By the way, he always complained of headaches, stomach aches and would scream in his sleep. Who knew - it was the singulair all along.

Hi all. I just wanted to update what my son has been going through since we discontinued the Singulair. He is SO much happier. I was even able to take him off the Abilify that he took to control his behavior! I see no ill effects like last time we tried to take him off that medicine. He clearly doesn't need it anymore. We have been seeing a major increase in urine incontinence, both at night and during the day. He just can not make it to the bathroom in time. I had done some research on the net about this and I believe it is tied to the discontinuing of the Singulair. He along with others I have read about probably had or have rather, spastic bladder and the Singulair was actually helping that. They are using it to treat interstitial cystitis so I know that there is a link between the bladder and leukotriens.
We went to our pediatrician, who by the way agrees with my findings and all the people who have had problems, she says that it could take up to 6 months for the Singulair to be completely out of the system.
She put my son on ddavp for the bladder issue. So far it has helped a little. Too soon to know for sure.
Hope everyone finds peace in this soon

7 days off singulair. What to say ,the days just keep getting better the smiles the hugs the happiness is just undeniable.I dont really have a specific moment but it is a knowing, a knowing that probaly only a mother knows.I look in his eyes and he is looking back at me.He has been absent for so long in a dark scarry place that nobody should ever have to visit.Falling asleep is still not coming easy, but when he is asleep i see a peace on his face that has been missing for so long, the last 2 mornings he has awoken by himself,i cant remember the last time i didnt have to wake him and wake him several times before he got up.I feel this is a new beginning, a rebirth so to say.difficult times may lie ahead ,but considering were we have come from,i feel sure it will be a cakewalk. My best thoughts and prayers to all of us.times they are a changing .Good luck Goc Bless

The doctor told me yesterday it could take up to 6 weeks to get this drug completely out of his system. he is now 5 days off and everyday there is some glimmer of my son shining through. the best way to express it is peace or calm. he is calmer when things go wrong that before would have caused a meltdown.
I counted over 20 things that he has suffered with that I see other children have had to deal as well. I have to be hopeful given the little glimpses of change I am already seeing.

My 68 year old father has been taking Singulair for quite some time and in July 2006 committed suicide. We had no reason to suspect the Singulair until just the other day. How does someone go about finding out for sure if Singulair was the reason he killed himself. This would answer questions that have caused my life to be in a constant stated of depression for 20 months now. I don't think this will be my ticket to freedom but it would help to know if it was caused by medicine.

After taking a "leave of Absence" from this site, I see that Singulair is still up and thriving. I still see ads for it on TV, over and over again. They haven't been altered at all. Makes me sick. I wish there was away to get to other people whose children have died by suicide and investigate as to whether or not they were ever on singulair. Keep fighting. We'll get there! Kate K
