I took my 16 year old child off of singulair 6 weeks ago (3-28-2008). She started taking it 11-17-2003. She became dark, depressed, grades dropped, dropped out of dance and cheerleading, started cutting her legs with razors, stomachaches, headaches, anxiety attacks, trips to the emergency room. 6 months of fluoxetine given by her psychiatrist. Nothing helped her be happy again. Sad and Dark young woman. NOW: She smiles a lot, and is eating diner with the family. No headache or stomachache for a month now. She is sleeping better. Before she said that her mind would not stop thinking. She is taking pictures again and even asked me to order her book called "Understanding Exposure" and is talking about taking a class on digital photography at NMSU branch university to start on her college electives now. She is out more and even has a part time job at an ice cream parlor. Just lately I have stopped checking the trash for waded up tissues with blood (from cutting). Chris, I have had all her medical records sent to her primary Doctor and we are very willing to open them up. You have to have a child suffering to understand where we are coming from. The most dangerous place on earth is standing between a mother and her child. Singulair took our children from us and maybe changed them in some way forever.

My 13 yr old daughter was put on Singulair along with Asmanex and Clarinex for her asthma about 6 weeks ago. Everything seemed to be going very well at first and her symptoms were starting to get controlled. I started noticing after about 3 to 4 weeks that her temper and attitude were getting much worse. Anyone with children this age knows what I mean but this was like a 180 degree turn for her. Her actions were becoming totally out of character. Before I knew it she would cry and get highly upset over the least little thing. Week 5 came around and things totally bottomed out. She came home from school and WAS NOT HERSELF. Made comments about how she hated her life and it was not worth living. Later that evening we had a big argument because I was telling her nothing was worth saying that. She went totally out of control and I had to physically restrain her to calm her down. It appeared everything was better so she went to her room. I went down to check on her and she calmly told me that she had taken advil and tylenol pm and things would be better for her forever now. We went to the ER where they made us wait for at least an hour, then finally took her back. She had to drink two cups of charcoal and was poked and prodded repeatedly. They did a catheter to get a urine sample. She was very cooperative but also was in a complete daze so who knows. The poor child couldn't even lift her head up when she started the vomiting to get rid of the drugs. It was very upsetting and sad. Her heart rate and blood pressure went very low and I really thought in the back of my mind that this was it. Finally, after several hours she started coming out of it and they sent us home. The next evening when she was starting to really come around she proceeded to tell me how she had been seeing a man walking around in her bedroom at night and she was afraid to go down there. Breaking down and crying telling me about all of the horrible nightmares she had been having recently and didn't know why. I thought what am I dealing with here? This just isn't her. Three days ago I heard about singulair in the news and looked it up on the internet. OH MY GOD THIS SOUNDED LIKE US!!!!! I immediately had her stop taking it and the next day phoned her asthma specialist who agreed she should stop now. We are going to watch her for two weeks and see if any symptoms return and then decide if she needs something else or will be fine on just the Asmanex. As a side note, she also mentioned being unable to concentrate in school (unable to do even the simplest math problems) and that her brain felt confused or like something was missing. She said this had been bothering her for several weeks. I know it was this drug. They really need to take this off the market NOW and stop flirting with disaster. The only reason I posted this was to let others know they are not alone.

My son is 4 1/2 years old and has been on Singulair since he was 2. We have been happy with the improvement we have seen in regards to his asthma. No more breathing treatments have been great. The last couple of years though he has continued to get severe headaches that put him out for at least a day with high fevers. The first time it happened was when he was 2 and he had a mild seizure with spiked fever. I haven't thought about it at all until he was due to get another headache and hasn't. We have missed some doings due to the holidays and walked out schedule. The timing and symptoms are seeming a little to coincidental. We have seen a hematologist and immunologist for his chronic headaches but no one knows why he is having them. He has even been admitted for them. His white blood cell count has been elevated with no known cause as to what his body is fighting. I think we will take him off of the Singulair for at another month and see if he gets anymore headaches.

Singulair is bad!! I have posted this before in October but just noticed the posting is no longer there??? My son is 4 and had horrible side effects. He has been medically cleared by 3 different physicians and everything leads back to the Singulair. We have a happy loving home, no stress than normal everyday stuff. He does great in his catholic school setting. He literally was as almost as a picture perfect kid as you could get. He was only on Singulair. About 2 months ago things started to happen. Unexplained fevers of always 102 or higher, severe headaches, seeing colors, joint and leg pain, stomach aches, sleep walking, night terrors, bad nail biting habit, depression, extremely emotional, chronic sinus infections, poor appetite, and weight loss. He just simply looked lethargic all the time. He missed school, fun activities and simply started to loose interest in things. I too knew something was wrong. The pediatrician thought I was too a hypochondriac. Then one night he had an emotional break down. He said things no 4 year old should ever think let alone say. Like he wanted to hurt us with knifes, he didn't love anyone, he hated Jesus. All along while crying because he did not understand why he felt this way. He wanted to die he said! I was so devastated. His teacher and our family could not believe the night and day difference in him. He was so happy and such a nurturing child to others. Now he simply had no emotion. You could look right through him. So after several doctors and psychiatrist they have concurred that the Singulair has thrown his Serotonin off. So he now has this chemical imbalance that we are working through with a psychiatrist who our insurance does not cover but is the best. All the other physical symptoms have subsided, he eats like a horse now, and no more nail biting, headaches or fevers. HMM coincidence... I think not!!! I have tried very hard to get the word out. I have had so much response just via private email that my friends have forwarded and so on. This is not isolated incidences. We are just the lucky ones to have discovered this website. Imagine those kids and adults that are still suffering. I work on an ambulance and i can tell you we had a 4 year old boy have a seizure out of the blue with no recent illness or history. Guess what med he was one??? Write every health official, contact the FDA, attorney general. Seriously this is the only way things will change!!

My four year old son has been on singulair for 6 weeks. He has started complaining about nightmares, wetting the bed and has become irritable and easily agitated. In addition, he seems to go into these wierd episodes of not being able to control his body...like someone high on drugs. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I will be calling his dr. in the am.

My 6 year old son has had all of these more or less. He has been on Singulair for about 5 months. We took him off last Friday when he started having seizures. It is only now that we are connecting the things he has complained about. He is still going through testing but everytime a test is done it is negative. He is in perfect health. The dr.s are stumped. What happens is, he smells a wierd smell. Then he sees lights. After this he has a bad headache and becomes weak so he lays down. Shortly thereafter he stiffens and starts shaking his arms and legs while clinching his hands. He also grunts and makes a buzzing sound and appears as though he only breathes out. the dr.s say it is not seizures but movement disorder and if it is Singulair it should be out of his system within 3 days... He is still having the seizure type fits and its been a week since we took him off singulair. He is still losing his temper and having horrible dreams as well. Cat scan was normal, EEG was normal, blood work is ok, they want to do an MRI but does this sound familiar to anyone?

I am 35 yr old female and have been on Singulair for at least 3 years, maybe 4. I stopped taking it 3 weeks ago and I am feeling better than I have in ages. I had no idea there were so many side effects until I started reading the posts here. I had read on packaging inserts about the higher incidents of Singulair causing ear and respiratory infections. I have had numerous infections in the time I have been on this med. I have also had problems with nightmares, teethgrinding, tension in the jaw area and severe headaches. Now I read that others taking Singulair are experiencing the same! The nightmares are terrifying and vivid, something that had not troubled me before. I recently found out I have elevated liver enzymes which the dr cannot figure out why. I now suspect it might be the Singulair or even the combination of taking it with Zyrtec. I really wish I could get off Zyrtec, but I sneeze non-stop and itch like crazy the three times I have tried to stop. Help!

My sun has suffered from three years of age with stomach pain and discomfort uppon eating he is now 12 years old. We have seen many doctors all of whom are very vague. His blood work consistantly comes back with low amylase and lipase. Yet they dont see any need for further investigation. I have been told he has a sensitive stomach. As a mother I see more. I live with him and see him every day. He eats very little, (i think it still hurts) he says he's not in pain anymore. At nine he was still thr...
