Sulfamethoxazole side effects

Today is 10/28. I am Weezie1 and I posted on 10/26 about my severe drug reactions. They have gotten worse since I wrote my first post. The fever and chills are gone. But now I have been dealing with a rash/hives over all parts of my body. They are worse where close contact to sleeping clothing are - back, chest, neck. The one side of my face that I usually sleep on is purple every morning, along with that same side of my neck. I managed to get myself back to the doctor on 10/26 and am now on a 6 day dosage of steroids for the rash/hives. The steroids have stopped the hives from getting any worse. But it is taking awhile to go away. Any heat, anxiety, frustration brings them out again. I see I will be dealing with this for awhile. I go back to the doctor on 10/29 for a recheck. I lost 2 days from work because of this. My skin felt like it was on fire with hundreds of bee stings. Now I feel like I have a severe case of poison ivy. I have found some relief using Aveeno's oatmeal powder to do a bathtub soaking at night. Then I follow that with Aveeno's rich moisturizing lotion. The doctor may want me on steroids for longer than first prescribed.....not a med you want to be on for too long. All because of an UTI last week that could have been simply treated with a regular antibiotic if my doctor was not able to prescribe this sulfa drug to me on 10/19. Next time I will go with my initial gut feeling and refuse to take a medication when I see its extensive side effect list. I wish I had done so last week. I am suffering much more now than I was last week with my UTI. I filed an online complaint at the FDA's website. They mention it at their phone number that Weezie1 reported in my 10/26 posting here. I, unfortunately, expect to see additional patient complaints here every few days when I check back at this great medications site. And now I see that someone has internal bleeding. What next? A death? My blood pressure and heart rate were both increased for several days due to this drug. I could feel my heart pounding when I was sitting still and laying in bed. Thankfully, my BP is normally on the low side, but all the numbers went up by 10. We have to band together to get this crap off the market and out of the hands of doctors and unsuspecting innocent patients. Our voices will be heard if we speak in large numbers. I've been on this for a few days today is my last pill I've had bloody stools & red dots on my shins, I'm scared, & if you read the side effects thoroughly, you will see that it surprisingly mentions fatality as a possibility.

Don't ever take this drug. I was hesitant when I saw the list of side effects. But my UTI was so bad and I didn't want to go back to the doctor for him to prescribe something else. Why he did not give me the same antibiotic that I had last winter with my previous UTI I have no idea. I had a 5 day dose. It went fine. Everything went downhill the evening of my last morning dose which was 10/24/09. Today is 10/26. The chills and aches immediately kicked in big time. I went right to bed with 2 Tylenol. It broke several hours later. Then the sweats began the next morning. Then the chills again last night. They are still here this morning. Because i am so cold I am sleeping in layers of flannel which is accentuating the horrid rash on my chest, neck, and back. The heat seems to be bringing it out. The doctor's office said I could take an OTC allergy pill but that will make me sleepy and I want to keep alert during this crisis. So I am going back to the doctor this afternoon for him to take a look at me. I may give him a piece of my mind for prescribing this crap to people. On my long list of side effects from my pharmacy is the phone number to report side effects to the FDA. It is 1-800-FDA-1088. We suffering patients need to unite against this demon drug so it is eventually pulled off the market. I was given Sulfameth/Trimetrhoprim 800/160 tabs for 5 days, twice daily, for an UTI. My pill bottle also says MFG AMNEAL - Generic for Septra DS tablets. No refills. Who want want to? Good luck to all the suffers of this doomed drug. I had to lose a day from work today and probably will do so tomorrow. And I have to somehow get myself back to the doctor today to hopefully get some relief. And living alone makes it even scarier. Something has to be done about this drug.

A few months ago I was diagnosed with a UTI and was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole (1 pill twice a day for 10 days). After a few days, my UTI was cured, but I continued to use the medication as I was instructed by my doctor and pharmacist. I had no side effects or allergic reaction for the entire period. However, on day 11 I noticed a small splotchy red rash on the right side of my body near my armpit. The next day the rash had spread to my legs, stomach and other side of my body. It was not raised and did not itch, so it didn't worry me. My boyfriends suggested that it might be a reaction to the medication, but the rash did not appear until at least 24 hours after taking my last pill. Five days ago, I became worried that I had contracted another UTI, so yesterday I visited the doctor again (a different one). She asked if I was allergic to any medications and I told her that I wasn't aware if I was. I did not think about the rash from a few months ago because I did not believe it was related to sulfamethoxazole. So she wrote me another prescription for the medication, but this time I was instructed to take 1 pill twice a day for 3 days. I took one pill around 4 PM yesterday and within 30 mins my entire body began to tingle and itch slightly. 2.5 hours later my face was bright red and severely hot and puffy. My eyes were as red and puffy as my face. Around 9 PM I began to chill and shake severely and I took Excedrin for a mild, dull headache. I took a warm shower, but I felt extremely fatigued and became nauseated simply from standing. So I got out with intentions of vomiting, but when I sat down in my bathroom floor I no longer felt nauseated. But my shaking became even more severe. I was cold, but also I was nervous and anxious because I felt mentally unstable. I have never battled depression, but I felt a slight bit of depression last night. I was very irritable and short tempered, which is very unlike me. My skin became so sensitive that I could not even stand feeling my boyfriend's breath on my shoulder. My body began to ache, specifically my ankle and knee joints, and it hurt to walk. I woke up around 2:30 AM with a fever of 100.4, so I took two Tylenol and the fever broke quickly, but I did not feel much better. This morning I feel a little better with no fever, but I still have slight chills and my whole body is red and itchy. Yesterday evening was a nightmare.

I started taking this on October 8 for a sinus infection. by the 13th I was suffering intense headaches, nausea, fever of 102 and anxiousness. I thought that on top of my original ailment I also had the flu. After 2 doctors and a trip to the hospital in which no one thought of the side effects of this drug, and with the discovery of a full body rash 2 days ago, I finally called my pharmacist yesterday who told me to drop the drug. I then looked up everything I could find myself and this is obviously the result that so many people describe. I am now on benadryl and prednisone and still quite miserable. I think they should take this off the market since so many people have a bad reaction!!!!!!!!!!!

Our twelve year old daughter had a severe UTI and was prescribed sulfa. After nine days she developed a hive like rash, temperature of 101, very lethargic, mildly confused and no appetite. We took her to her pediatrician who immediately took her off sulfa and directed us to give her plenty of fluids, rest, and benadryl. We are still going through this with our daughter and will post any new side effects if we experience any.

Oh my God! I do not have medical and was going to take my husbands leftover sulfamethoxazole and now I would rather try to get through this sinus infection on my own with micenex and aspirin. THANK YOU PEOPLE!! I am afraid to go to the Dr. because he will prescribe sulfamethoxazole!!! Pray for me, C.

Tendons were tight in my legs, fingers aching, and joints were hurting after taking this antibiotic. Besides the fever accompanied by the headache.

I have struggled with very resistant acne for about four years and was prescribed sulfamethoxazole about 5 months ago. I couldn't be happier with the results. The sulfameth combined with Differin (a topical cream) have made my face clearer than it has ever been. I haven't even found that I am more sensitive to sunburn, although my skin is darker and I never usually burn to begin with.

I had an infection on my foot (could have been Staph because it was very aggressive and painful with lots of swelling) and was prescribed 'Bactrim' or Sulfamethoxazole. Everything was fine for the first 8 days. My infected foot was healing.
On the 9th day, I developed a rash that I noticed first on my wrist and then my neck, inner thighs and my feet. I went to the doctor who said to not take my 10th and final day of Sulfamethoxazole and prescribed benadryl.
Later the same day (tonight), the rash has spread everywhere from face to toe. The itching hasn't been severe but it has been uncomfortable, sort of like mild pin pricks in random places on my body.
I'm going back to the doctor's office tomorrow since they told me to expect it to get a lot better by tomorrow. I'd be surprised if it gets better but it definitely has gotten worse.

I was prescribed sulfa for 10 days, twice a day for an upper respiratory infection. Today is the 8th day and I woke up with hives all over my body, mostly my chest and thighs. I had taken my pill this morning as per the usual because my doctor was not open yet. He instructed me to stop taking it because I'm allergic. Apparently it takes a week to manifest itself (the allergy). So I'm done with the pills and hopefully the infection will clear up on its own. But im so itchy!!Benadryl was recommended for that.

I started taking this medicine for a UTI I'm allergic to penicillin and I see that this is in this medicine, that's real great. Well the first night I took it, I was so tired all I wanted to do is sleep, I had the worst headache ever which made me moody and my neck and back just ached. On the second day I woke up and it felt like needles going through my feet they were swollen and itchy and red, i knew right then to quit taking the medicine and yet it spread to my hands and it was the same thing! Still have had a headache 24/7 since i started the medicine. It doesn't help! Look at all the other reviews! Don't take this medicine you take medicine to help you not make more problems!

I was first prescribed 2 a day for seven days for a knot on my arm
Days 1 &2 ok
3rd night heaviness and tingling in arms legs,hot flashes uncontrollable shaking,hot one minute then cold the next,severe panic attack(it lasted 4 hrs.,nausea,rapid pulse hands and feet cold and blue
4th thru 6th days shaky weak feeling,fatigue, extreme depression ,VERY JITTERY,STARTLED EASY,my penis got extremely sensitive and turned purple
7th day chest pain,shoulder pain, back pain,tightness in chest, difficulty breathing, it got so bad i went to the ER they found nothing but my pulse ox was low
I started feeling normal again 6 days after I finished the round
I then went back to the doctor for the knot again, they drained the knot and he put me on Sulf. again only this time 4 a day for ten days
I got 2 doses in (4 pills) and noticed a lot of the same symptoms returning . I have not nor will not take this drug again.

I am on my 4th day of sulfameth/trimethoprim 800 mg @ 2 x's a day along w/ another medicine, I have bronchitis & staph (from an ingrown hair on my inner thigh OUCH!!) This is the second time I've had to take this medicine in the past 2 months & this is the second time I've had a sore throat & swollen vaginal area (labia mostly) i'm use to it swollen at times after "personal time" w/ my husband, but this is ridiculously swollen!
Anybody had that symptom before???? And is that normal???

I have been taking Sulfameth/Trimeth for a presumed UTI/kidney infection. I was given a 2 per day regimen for 30 days. I am almost half way through and cannot take it anymore. I have experienced nausea, hot flashes (and I am man!), sleeplessness, photosensitivity and now my whole chest cavity and stomach feel raw and inflamed. I do not the diarrhea that others complain about, but I am taking a potent probiotic. The nausea and raw stomach subside when I eat, but that only lasts for a couple of hours max.

My boyfriend was prescribed sulfameth (10 days/ 2x) for these bumps that appeared on his arms and legs and would appear anywhere that he would scratch. Within 5 minutes of taking the first dosage in the evening, his eyesight became blurry. He had a severe headache that night, chills and a high fever that lasted through the night. He took 2 ibuprofen pills but they didn't help. He couldn't get to sleep the entire night. He also became even more itchy than before he took the sulfameth. He couldn't move due to muscle pain and fatigue. His fever was still there by the time i got there at 7 in the morning and he was shaking uncontrollably. His heart rate was up. It looked to me that more bumps appeared on his body and some became a dark purple blotch, like a bruise. His fever broke around noon and stayed away for a couple of hours but it returned. His skin started to peel after his fever returned. At first i noticed it was on his nose and ear but i didn't think much of it since i didn't see it anywhere else. An hour later he texted me and said his whole body started peeling as if he had sun burn. His temperature is still slightly raised after over 24 hours.
I refused to give him the second dosage of sulfameth that morning and proceeded to call the doctor who had prescribed it. All she said was that he needed to come back in. No way in hell was i bringing him back there. She didn't even look at him for literally a minute and prescribed this crap. She said nothing of the side effects. There was no warning. Even though i looked it up before he took it, I didn't think it would be this bad.

I went to the doctor one day they told me that nothing was wrong with me and that is was just in my head needless to say i had not urine for a day and my back was killing me so we i got home i went to the ER and they told me that i had a really bad kidney infection and bladder infection and a UTI ya it hurt like you no what. they gave me sulfamethoxazole to take for 14 days well in the first week i felt funny and i didn't seem like something was wrong with me So a week into the medicine i was a work and the inside of my mouth started peeling yes peeling like the top layer was coming off and i started feel really funny so i called the doctor and they said everything was ok that it was a normal reaction to the drug not being a nurse or doctor i believe them so in middle of the night my face was swollen i had a rash on my face and my chest. I immedity went to the doctor ( a different doctor of course) he looked at me and said what have you being taking i pulled out the medication out of my pocketbook and he look at me in shock and said i know you have not being taken this you you are highly allergic to the medication ya i said the same thing i had no clue but he gave me a shot of something and gave me prednisone i not feeling that will he said it would take a couple of days to kick in but hey i need something now!!!!

I was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160 Tabs for a bite on my leg from unknown origin (spider, tick, scorpion...nobody seems to know, and neither do I) and I had to take it for 10 days, twice a day. and I just felt horrible for all 10 of them. nausea, headache, intense back pain, no appetite (just thinking about eating would make me feel sick), and I also had really bad dry mouth. The 10 days ended 3 days ago, and I'm still feeling these side effects, although my appetite is slowly coming back. But this morning when I woke up, my whole body was burning hot and I had a bright red rash on my face that was very hot. The rash has been there all day, and it's really painful. All of this, and the bite on my leg is actually WORSE than when I went to the doctor to get help for it!!!

I was prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 for a sinus infection. I was fine until today, the 6th day of taking it. I'm very spacey and feeling floaty. I have a headache. I'm moody. I have no energy. I only have 4 days left but I'm thinking I'll stop the meds today. I'd rather deal with a sinus infection with OTC drugs considering I have 2 small children and the way I feel is NO way to try and function.

Severe constipation.....I have taken everything I can think of to eliminate including mineral oil and it's not working. I am on a 10 day dose. I have one more day to go.

I thought my brain was bleeding or swollen or something terrible because I have the worst headache I've ever had. I see now its from the medication. I've been having a hard time falling asleep and once I do, I wake up 4 times in the night. At least it doesn't hurt to pee anymore! But why should people have to treat their side effects, then worry about side effects from that medicine they are treating with? My head hurts...

Started with fever, then rashes, then swollen face, then rashes all over the body, then no taste buds and did not feel like eating. Very tired all the time. Stopped taking the drug after the 8th day when fever and rashes started to appear. Took lots of water after that to try to flush out of system. After 12 days, taste bud seem to be coming back. Skin has started to become flaky and peeling. More like extremely dry skin. This was an extremely bad reaction and can cause very bad side effects. See you doctor as soon as an allergic reaction starts. Blood tests seem to be necessary to make sure the drug hasn't affected other organs. Good luck to any one who has to go through this reaction.

Was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimethoprim for acne when erythromycin and doxycycline were not enough. Dermatologist simply asked "Is there anything that are you allergic to?" I said, "Not that I know of." Took it well for first six days. Looking back, I felt probably the most lethargic during this time, at a job that I loved the most. On the 7th day, after having a great time with the new love in my life, I noticed a heaviness, tingling, and warmness affecting my legs. Went into work feeling too warm. Left about 20 mins in. Had incredibly bad fever this night. Went home, took another Sulfa/Trimeth pill (hadn't linked the problem). Woke up about two hours later, worse than ever. Flu like symptoms, blurred vision, couldn't sleep, and red rash developing over body. Took next night off of work. Went into emergency room with a panic attack and left side of body numb. Docs didn't know what it was. Blood pressure: 159/100 Temperature: 104 F Rapid heart beat. Completely dehydrated. Fever continued ... released same day and told to take Tylenol for fever. Stayed off sulfa/trimeth for two days. Got much better. Just took it tonight (foolishly) then found this page. Now realized that my body has been rejecting this drug. Currently itchy and cannot sleep. Took vicodin and ibuprofen - no effect to counter this drug. Must wait for it to leave the system. Will contact dermatologist in the morning about my allergic reaction to sulfa. Also experienced severe depression on this medication.

On May 11th, Monday, I started feeling lower abdomen pain and though it was gas. When I went to the doctor the next day, she took a urine test and told me I had a bladder infection. She prescribed Sulfa for 5 days, 2x a day. This is my last day and I have one more pill to go. The first day I took it, I woke up with a stiff neck. I thought I was getting better until this morning when, for the first time, it actually burned to pee and there was some blood spots. In addition, my stomach has gotten much larger than it ever has even when I gain weight. I feel like I might be pregnant because a few weeks back I was intimate with a guy and he placed his penis firmly on the opening of my vagina and was there for a while. He did not penetrate because I am still a virgin but could it be that sperm from his pre-cum might have entered my birth canal? But if my doctor took a urine test 10 days after that incident and nothing showed up to show I was pregnant, could it be because the pregnancy hormone wasn't at a detectable level yet? I have no idea. I just know that I am usually a very healthy and clean person and this has just thrown my body off track and I'm freaking out~

Took my second sulfamethoxazole for a UTI yesterday morning and within an hour was racked with fever, horrible aches, and chills. Fortunately, my doctor was wise enough to recognize a "febrile reaction," and took me off the sulfa immediately and prescribed Cipro. A day later, I still have a bit of fever, feel like I was run over by a truck, but am much better.

I took Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160 for a UTI and it hasn't treated my infection....I consistently going to the restroom and the pain still emerges....my doctor says to continue to take them but I'm feeling like I shouldn't....I have two more left and more pain....

I was prescribed sulfamethoxazole for a uti and I experienced nausea, dehydration, severe headache, vomiting, rash. The headache was the worst and after 5 days all these symptoms presented. Quit taking the drug on the 5th day, but ten days later I still have a persistent and severe headache that even Tylenol nor Advil can make it go away.

I started taken this medication 2 days ago and i have notice that the head of my private part have gotten sensitive to the touch. I will call my Doctor today and see about changing my medication. I hope that thing do not get any worse.

I just have a bad experience with this medicament, my reaction is wired
my peanus start eaching realy bad it feels like is burning and then my left
hand start turning red and burning until it got black purple. I didn't know I was alergic to sulfamethoxazole, as soon as this happened I just stop taking this medicine, then I eate a lot of garlics and cactus nopales and all my allergic reaction go away like ten minutes after I eate that.

I was given 6 pills to take, 2 a day for three days for a UTI. On day 2 I start to itch on my legs and in between my fingers by the end of the day I had a rash in the most private areas and was itching pretty much all over. Lotion or no other moisturizer helped to calm this burning, itching rash. I called the pharmacist on day 3 and he told me to call my doctor immediately and not to finish the medicine because I was having a severe allergic reaction. I called the after hours number because this happened over the weekend. The nurse on call also told me not to finish the last dose and to take Benadryl, 2 pills every 6 hours and to sit in a tub of baking soda to help relieve some of the itching. Well, this didn't help because there was a high dosage of the medicine in my system I was still in excruciating pain. I ended up at the doctors office bleeding from my genitals all because of this medicine. Not only did I have an allergic reaction but I developed a yeast infection also. It took a little over a week for it to clear my system, the Sulfamethoxazole. Thank God I don't have scars from the rash, the blessing stopped and things are pretty normal now.
If you're taking this medication and having symptoms that are out of the norm or some of what I mentioned don't continue to take it. Call your doctor IMMEDIATELY!!!!

My husband is in his 9th day of taking this medicine. He came home from work last night itching on his wrists and feet. By morning he looked like he was sunburned and was itching like crazy. He is also very crabby, which is not his nature. Even after showering and using a good lotion it's still horrible and he is not a happy man. He is going to call the Dr. in the morning to see what he needs to do about this.

Ive been on the medication for 8 days. All was well until yesterday afternoon when my face got beet red. I didn't think much of it since my face does flush at times.
Last night, it seemed to be traveling down my neck and shoulders.
When I woke this morning, red face was still there but now I had broken out is rashes all over my body. As of right now they are still there and starting to itch.
I was on this medication for ear infection and also for UTI.
Never would have thought with 1 pill left Id break out in a reaction like this.
Hope it goes away soon.
Benadryl isn't helping me much

I'll be sure to add this to my list of medications not to take.

I am only 16 and I am taking this for a UTI/Kidney Infection. Mine is in liquid form b/c I can not swallow pills. This medicine sucks. Simple as that. I am sitting here right now with the worst headache-Feels like when I went to the hospital 4 in the morning! I am reading all of the others posts and getting scared. I have been diagnosed with Anxiety and Panic Attacks on top of this-I swear doctors these days aren't so medicine smart. I will be forced to take it-I don't want to! This medicine is hurting people and I am one of those people!!!!

my son was given this drug for a potential staph infection, took 1 pill, and 1 1/2 hrs later he itched all over, had the worst headache, threw up and got a fever of 103.6, the next day he still has the fever and horrible headache, but he aches all over and feels horrible, steer clear of this med.

I started this medication 6 days ago for a UTI, and just this afternoon started developing a nasty rash. It has now spread to my whole body. The rash is not raised, and only a little bit itchy. I have a sore throat, dizziness, swollen glands, and feel like I am in a fog. I also have severe pain in my left shoulder and neck... the funny thing is that when the shoulder pain started a few days ago it was in my right side. My eyes are bloodshot, which I realized when someone asked me if I had been crying. I only have 1 dose left, but will throw the bottle away and never take this medication again.

I'm on my second pill, of a 7-day prescription. 2 a day. Didn't bother me last night except for extreme nightmares. Took the second pill today, and my hands are shaking and I feel very nervous. No stomach pains or fever just very, very anxious....I'm going to see what happens the rest of the day and may take one more dose this evening....but then I'm through.

Was prescribed this 9 days ago for a sinus infection. Last night (the 9th day) I was getting ready for bed and noticed a rash on my arm. I then noticed that it was on my other arm...and then saw it on my legs, chest, abdomen, back, etc. Basically everywhere except my face (though today it has shown up slightly on my face). After noticing the rash, I took some Benadryl and went to bed. About 30 minutes later I woke up suddenly--I felt a bit woozy and dizzy. Suddenly, my legs started jerking, my body was shaking, teeth chattering etc. My husband called the doc on call, who said that the rash was definitely due to the antibiotic, and that the dizziness/lightheadedness was most likely a reaction to the Benadryl. She said the rash would probably last about 3 days, and that as long as my breathing stayed fine and my lips/tongue didn't start to tingle, I would be OK. It has now been almost 24 hours; the rash is still there and I have had chills off and on throughout the day. The doc called to check on me a few minutes ago, and told me if the rash is not improving by tomorrow (Monday), to come in to the office. She explained that she was a bit concerned that the dizziness might be low blood pressure resulting from the reaction to the sulfamethoxazole, and that it could make a person very sick. She wasn't as concerned since I hadn't experienced the dizziness again since. Scary!

I was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimeth 800/160 for a possible infection in my epididymis. I was given a 15-day prescription and had absolutely no side effects for the first 9 days. When I woke up on day 10, I noticed little red bumps pretty much everywhere on my body. Some of the bigger bumps were pretty itchy too. While it's not getting worse (day 11 now), it did spread further down my hands and I have a very stiff neck and had a moderate headache last night. Luckily for me, my face wasn't affected by the bumps; it just looks mildly red. I can't wait to get off this medication!!!!

I was given this for acne and about one week into it I started having body aches. I read that it is a side effect so I thought I'd just Motrin it up. I was not sleeping, but I thought it was because of my body aches so I took some Tylenol pm for a couple nights. I ended up with itchy hives because I'm allergic to benadryl and I did not know that Tylenol pm contained benadryl. So my doctor told me it was the allergic reaction to the benadryl and to keep taking the sulfameth. I feel worse today and I will not take another sulfer pill. Everything on my body hurts! I'm shakey and disoriented. Tomorrow is thanksgiving, my husband is away in the service, and it's up to me to make it a great holiday for my kids. I will NOT be taking this medication (or Tylenol pm) again.

could Sulfamethoxazole mess up wih my birth control called Kariva? I'm not getting my period but it feels like i am. im not sure, im worried and had unprotected sex 6/7 days ago?

TOOK IF FOR 10 DAYS...ON DAY 7, NOTICED MY RIGHT NECK WAS PUFFY AND SORE (ONE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS) AND ON DAY TEN, I HAD RED SPOTS ALL OVER MY BODY, FACE WAS FLUSHED...HOWEVER, WAS NOT ITCHY. DOCTOR DIDN'T BELIEVE IT WAS AN ALLERGIC RXN BECAUSE IT DID NOT ITCH. THE PHARMACISTS I WENT TO SAID THEY SEE IT ALL THE TIME AND IT DOES NOT NEED TO ITCH TO BE CONSIDERED AN ALLERGIC RXN. THE DR PRESCRIBED CLARINEX FOR THE SPOTS.

taking this medication for uti. supposed to take it for 2 weeks along with Flomax.. this is my 4th day and i have had nausea, and stomach pain since the second dose. So far it has not helped with the uti but my Dr. says it may take 4 or 5 days..

If I had gone online first I never would of taken this medication. I too needed to be treated for UTI and was given this. I became constipated for 2 1/2 days and on the 3rd day at night I started to itch uncontrollably. Next day, I am covered in hives/rash all over the body. All red little pimples and parts of my body/face burn. It seems it is all over the internet but the pharmacist gave it to me casually anyways.

MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH KIDNEY REFLUX GRADE 3, THEY GAVE HER SULFAMETHOXAZOLE. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER SHE STARTED IT SHE BEGAN TO COMPLAIN ABOUT STOMACH PAIN, SHE HAD A LOSS OF APPETITE, NIGHTMARES, NERVOUSNESS (SHE IS VERY JUMPY), SEVERE LOWER BACK PAIN, AND VERY IRRATABLEAND IT ALL SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. THIS IS NOT MY EASY GOING DAUGHTER!

I was prescribed Sulfameth for a UTI only yesterday. I've taken three doses and I feel like complete and utter crap. I feel like I have a huge lump in my throat that goes down to my chest. It's very painful, like someone is standing on top of me. And it gets worse every time I swallow. Even drinking water makes it worse. At first I thought that huge pill just got stuck in my throat but it's been eight hours since I took it and it's still there. Last night I felt the same but I just thought that was from the infection. This morning I woke up feeling great but after taking it with breakfast it's all been downhill. Now my heartbeat is up, I'm getting dizzy and my hands feel really weak and shaky. I just called my doctor and they're switching me to something else. I just hope it makes me feel better than this stuff.

I had spider bites that got infected. I was given Sulfamethoxazole (double strength) two tablets, two times a day. I was getting symptoms like dizziness, disorientation, and leg weakness so I lowered my dosage as a precaution then...boom, I was sent into a seizure. I am very scared of the nerve damage that has been done.

I was taking sulfamethoxazole for 9 days and woke up on the lasttay with whatr looked like the measels all over my entire body, it is now two days later and I am still covered in hives and really itchy. I, too had a fever of 100.7 at the highest. It's terrible because I work with the public, and everyone I come across looks at me as though I have the plague. Well, I guess there have been more severe allergicreactions. I should count my blessings. It's also nice to know I'm not the only one. You never know when a health professional; is gonna slip up and misdiagnose you.

My boyfriend starting taking this 10 days ago for Bronchitis and Tonsillitis. He was prescribed two a day for 10 days.
Before he started taking the medicine he had already been vomiting for a day before being prescribed to it. He continued vomiting for the first few days after and I assumed it was not from the medicine cuz he had already been vomiting before. A few days into the meds he was not getting better and only getting worse and got a fever. I took him to the ER and the doc said to keep taking the medicine and he would give him anti nausea meds. Even after taking the anti nausea/vomiting meds.. he continued vomiting. The vomiting eventually stops after a few days and then from there on out he still was not getting better. He complained about difficulty breathing and he can hardly eat anything and is coughing constantly. He said his throat feels like its an 1/2 inch wide and he chokes when he trys to eat something that is solid. He has been having severe neck cramps, headaches and upset stomach.
Finally on his very last day taking sulfameth he came to my house and i noticed his skin looked red. 20 minutes taker he had rashes and hives all over his body.
I don't know how often this medicine is prescribed or maybe people only write reviews when they have a bad reaction to it but from what it seems I would stay away from this medicine unless you know for sure you are not allergic to it.
