Was prescribed this antibiotic at the er for an ear infection. Had been taking for five days with no feeling of relief from the pressure and pain. on the fifth day I noticed I was shaking and shivering but sweating at the same time. My ears and nose became very clogged, my eyes turned bloodshot and felt a lot of pressure. I was very dizzy, had a very dry mouth was drinking lots of water and urinating a lot. Began to have a panic attack because the symptoms I was experiencing, after about five hours of this I started to feel a bit better. I did not relate this to the drug at first but after I took my second dosage that day I began to feel the same symptoms intensify, only my throat began to swell and I had trouble swallowing. I immediately took two benadryl as I realized I was having a serious allergic reaction. Went to the doctor the next day and was prescribed a different antibiotic, so eight days later I am finally feeling better! Will never take this drug again!

I was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160 for acne over 30 days ago. I have only experienced slight diarrea and dry mouth. Other than that it has worked just fine for me and I will continue taking it for my ongoing acne problem. Oh, and the acne cleared up nicely within 1 week!

I've been taking Sulfameth for four days now and I've only noticed a really dry mouth. There's been some sweating but that's probably partly related to fever.

I started taking Sulfameth 3 days ago 2 times per day. I have the this for a total of 14 days and after reading, am nervous about what may come. I already experience dry mouth and extreme thirst. I have already gained about 4-5 pounds since starting it, but I expect its mostly water weight, since I can't stop drinking!! I feel slightly dizzy and sluggish. One slight symptom that is mostly an annoyance is the skin around my nostrals feels tight and cold- almost numb- although its smooth to touch. I'm aftraid it might continue to the rest of my face. Also, my digestion has been all messed up.

I was prescribed this medication for an ear infection. For the first five days, I had severe headaches, dry mouth, and trouble sleeping. On the sixth day, I developed a fever of 101 and had chills bad enough to cause my teeth to chatter. I was also extremely tired and my whole body ached. I though I was coming down with the flu. I went to bed that night, but continued to suffer from chills and was unable to rest comfortably. I awoke at 4am on the seventh day and noticed I had hives all over my face and neck. By 9am, I had red blotches on my chest, stomach, back, and arms. I called the doctor and was told it was probably an allergic reaction and I should come in for a check-up. After seeing the doctor, he said this medication often has a "delayed allergic reaction" that usually shows up around 7 days after beginning the dosage. He told me stop taking the meds and that the rash would probably get worse before it gets better. That's true. It is now day 8 (late) and I have red blotches everywhere on my body and they itch a lot. I will make sure I remember to never take this medicine again. It didn't help with the ear infection either, but nothing has so far. This was the 4th different antibiotic tried.

I have taken trimethoprim for two doses and those havent been as close as they should have been over two days and not the full dose at that as I took 200mg last night and felt so horrible, with a very dry mouth, high high anxiety couldnt sleep and didnt feel well at all.. depite drinking lots and lots as advised when taking it
..I just was starting to feel better during today as if it was wearing out of my system and I still have the urinary infection so tonight I took half a dose (ie 100mg) and here I am sitting up into the night scouring the Internet for side effects or drug interactions that may not be on the leaflet with the meds, but maybe what I am having, as I feel exactly the same as last night, high high anxiety, cant sleep and dry mouth (very). I dont think I want to continue this medication and will call my Dr tomorrow for another antibiotic to clear the UTI.
Was quite releived when I came across this site with people mentioning high anxiety and very dry mouth and feeling plain awful!

I was prescribed this medication for 7 days, one tablet twice a day. After just taking two of these tablets (one @ 0830 and one @ 2030) I broke out with hives/rash, burning (like fire) itch, around my pelvic area and thighs, dry mouth, unable to sleep, and a constant urge to urinate. I have not been in the sun, and have drank plenty of water with this medication as advised. These symptoms have only appeared since taking this medication, therefore I have stopped taking this awful drug. Dr's. office is closed today, but will be in to see her tomorrow. I will never take this drug again, it is truly horrible.

just got back from the ER...Sulfameth for 3 days now...totals 6 pills...can't sleep, nervous, dry mouth/white coated tongue, muscle cramps, nausea, general sick feeling...also was taking Buspar (anxiety) and Aciphex (heartburn), and also Reglan (anti-nausea)...made a major mistake by downing some sleeping pills (Walmart brand and a Nytol)...haven't slept more than 15 minutes in 3 days...right now, I'm "clean" for almost 24 hours...smoked a cigarette, having a beer and calling it a day (or three)...I'd recommend you SERIOUSLY talk to your doc about alternatives to this one...hadn't had any problems before taking it...already feeling better...have been drinking water all day to flush this stuff out...

After about two weeks of use, I started having dry mouth, severe swelling of different portions of my upper an lower lip and sides of my face. Also, ! had hives all over my body, which would subside after around 8 to 12 hours after taking an antihistamine. I also experienced difficulty swallowing.

Well, I am on night three of my 7 day course, which I am taking for a UTI I didn't even know I had, and I have been going absolutely nuts the last few days. I was supposed to leave an hour ago to drive to California from Florida (It's 4:55 a.m.), but I am now having to put it off a whole day because I have been shaking, getting hot/cold spells, dry mouth, hands and feet sweating, nausea, gas, dizziness and just generally feeling yucky. I have not had a panic attack in almost 5 years - and I certainly never had one that lasted this long. But no matter what, I have always prided myself on being able to fall asleep. Tonight, I feel a bit bullied by this drug. I slept only two hours tonight, and still don't feel as though I can go back to sleep.
