I was prescribed sulfameth for an infection from a possible bug bite. After three days of taking this drug, I've had a severe headache, nausea, diarrhea, chills, fever, excessive perspiration, tightness and pain in my chest, dizziness, tingling around my lips, low back pain, weird nightmares and fitful sleep. Also, my blood sugar level is significantly elevated and I have constant stiffness and soreness in my neck. I'm just now coming to this website after experiencing these side effects for a total of five of the eight days I've been on the sulfameth.

I started taking Sulfamethoxazole for a bladder infection. The 3rd day I experienced joint pain in my legs, the advise nurse told me to continue with the meds, I did. The fifth day I suffered lower back pain, joint pain, and by the evening had a temp of a 101. The advise nurse told me to continue with my meds. The 6th day, I had a fever, nausious, went to my DR, my fever was at 101, abdominal pain, chills;I gave more blood, after 3 hrs of waiting for results, she looked at me and said she didn't know what was wrong with me...she had discussed my symptoms with a disease specialist and said I was probably experiencing drug fever and to stop the meds (2 pills left). When I got home my fever was at 103.5...
The next day, my fever had broke, I had a migraine all day, I went back in to give more blood. The 8th day, I woke up which appeared to be a sun burn on my face and ears...which led to little red bumps all over my body. The advise nurse looked at my chart and said she didn't believe this medication would cause this...I told her I was allergic to this medication, she wanted to know why I thought that...

Unbelievable! The more I read these entries the closer my jaw gets to the floor. I have an extremely conscientious primary physician who knows me quite well and I cannot believe he has me on this stuff. I've been on it for almost 6 days now and I am constantly nauseous, feverish, shaky and fatigued. And guess what else....since I can't eat I am going into these hypoglycemic fits which are exacerbating my pre-existing condition (panic attacks). I was prescribed this for a UTI and I am not even sure it has helped as I am still having lower back pain (kidney).
