My boyfriend starting taking this 10 days ago for Bronchitis and Tonsillitis. He was prescribed two a day for 10 days.
Before he started taking the medicine he had already been vomiting for a day before being prescribed to it. He continued vomiting for the first few days after and I assumed it was not from the medicine cuz he had already been vomiting before. A few days into the meds he was not getting better and only getting worse and got a fever. I took him to the ER and the doc said to keep taking the medicine and he would give him anti nausea meds. Even after taking the anti nausea/vomiting meds.. he continued vomiting. The vomiting eventually stops after a few days and then from there on out he still was not getting better. He complained about difficulty breathing and he can hardly eat anything and is coughing constantly. He said his throat feels like its an 1/2 inch wide and he chokes when he trys to eat something that is solid. He has been having severe neck cramps, headaches and upset stomach.
Finally on his very last day taking sulfameth he came to my house and i noticed his skin looked red. 20 minutes taker he had rashes and hives all over his body.
I don't know how often this medicine is prescribed or maybe people only write reviews when they have a bad reaction to it but from what it seems I would stay away from this medicine unless you know for sure you are not allergic to it.

My experience is HORRIBLE!

Never again!

I too was prescribed this for a UTI and by day 2 thought i was going to die. I went back to the doctor, still having the fever and body aches and the UTI wasn't going away so they gave me more!

Flu-like symptoms persisted. I had one anxiety attack and have missed out on a lot of work for this!
The rash i developed is driving me crazy! ( i thought i had stayed in the tanning bed to long and was burnt!) but after reading all these posts I know that I'm not crazy. Never again ! (worst abdominal pain ever!) headache, nausea,...all of these symptoms for 10 days now!

Screw sulfa drugs!

I have been taking this medication for 6 days for a UTI. I feel like crap and haven't been able to work. Thank goodness I don't have hives or anything else. But my stomachs is cramping really bad and I have been acting like an evil $%#@&, I also have the worst stiff neck. Anyways I was extremely nauseated and felt like I was pregnant but I have a prescription for pot and it seems to help the majority of the side effects. Massive amounts of water will take away the anxiety. I am going to wean myself slowly starting tomorrow and I will never take this drug again.

Well, I am on night three of my 7 day course, which I am taking for a UTI I didn't even know I had, and I have been going absolutely nuts the last few days. I was supposed to leave an hour ago to drive to California from Florida (It's 4:55 a.m.), but I am now having to put it off a whole day because I have been shaking, getting hot/cold spells, dry mouth, hands and feet sweating, nausea, gas, dizziness and just generally feeling yucky. I have not had a panic attack in almost 5 years - and I certainly never had one that lasted this long. But no matter what, I have always prided myself on being able to fall asleep. Tonight, I feel a bit bullied by this drug. I slept only two hours tonight, and still don't feel as though I can go back to sleep.

oh my gosh, thank God for this site. for the past 3 days i thought i going CRAZY. i had no idea that a pill for a uti could cause these kind of symtoms. i've had nausea, exhaustion (but i can't sleep), depression, and the worst panic attack i have ever had. i've taken the pill for 3 days. the first day it seemed to help. it made very tired but i thought i was just tired bc i had been so sick. the second day i was even more tired and very depressed but i still didn't think it was the drug. today i woke up and felt fine until i took the pill. i started feeling extreme anxiety and started to panic over everything. i've had panic attacks before so i still didn't think about what was really causing it. i tried to calm myself down bc i didn't want to go back to the hospital for the 2nd time in 3 days, but it wasn't like any panic attack i've had before. usually they go away pretty quick but this one lasted the whole day. it wasn't until i tried to go to sleep tonight and felt so extremely depressed and worried that i decided to look up the side effects of this pill. seeing this has calmed me down so much. i wish someone would have warned me of the effects, but i guess i'll know not to take it again! cranberry juice and water from here on out i guess.

I was taking this drug after having surgery on my foot. After taking this pill twice a day for 5 days, I woke with a high fever, chills, headache, nausea and could not sleep. I continued to take the drug thinking that I just had the flu, my symptoms continued for the next 2 days. My fever broke the morning of my 7th and final day of taking this drug. That evening my fever came back and I broke out in a rash (front/back/arms) and my skin looks like I have a first degree sun burn especially my face and chest and it itches. I had not been out in the sun the entire time of taking this drug.
This will be the last time I I take this drug.

I was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim for a sinus infection. After taking it for 3 days I felt worse than I had felt the entire month of feeling sick. I had weird dreams, chills , cold sweats, headaches ( where the headaches weren't before) little sleep but super tired and very bad nausea . I quite taking it the next morning and felt extremely nauseous, sore from shaking all night , emotional and fatigue. So glad I found this website. I felt like I was losing it.

I wish I had bothered to find this site before taking this medication. My doctor prescribed Sulfameth, 1 pill 2x a day for 7 days for a skin infection and wheezing in my chest following a bad head cold. I quit taking this medication after 3.5 days for many of the reasons already described by others herein.

The first day I noticed my heart was "racey" and I had a headache. My symptoms have been getting progressively worse. I feel compelled to eat every few hours (possibly a reaction to feeling lethargic) but food just doesn't taste right. I seemed to crave sweet and salty snacks, which has caused me to retain water. To add to my frustration, I noticed that I seemed to be feeling worse and getting sicker instead of better. My head has been very stuffy and I thought I might be coming down with strep or the flu after feeling like I had an ulcer in the back of my throat. My mouth has been very dry and I am finding it uncomfortable to swallow. My tongue and the top of my mouth is very sensitive and feels raw. Also, my chest wheezing has gotten no better. I have felt very tired and i have no energy to do my normal walks in the morning let alone a full work out. In fact, walking across the room is quite taxing right now. I can't sleep but am exhausted. I was absolutely out of it today, and considered going to the urgent care facility to see what is going on. That's when I discovered that many people have reported similar experiences. Thankfully, I never got a rash or the high fever. This seems like a terrible medication and I will not be completing my course.
