I was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim for a sinus infection. After taking it for 3 days I felt worse than I had felt the entire month of feeling sick. I had weird dreams, chills , cold sweats, headaches ( where the headaches weren't before) little sleep but super tired and very bad nausea . I quite taking it the next morning and felt extremely nauseous, sore from shaking all night , emotional and fatigue. So glad I found this website. I felt like I was losing it.

I began taking sulfameth about 1 week ago. Everything seemed ok until one morning I woke up and my neck was completely stiff! I started getting the hot and cold feeling and a splitting headache with nausea. I took tylenol and it seemed to improve a little. That evening I woke up every ten mins, just unable to get quality sleep. Next morning I woke up (after no sleep again), COVERED in hives. I mean, from my head to my ankles, these huge, red, itchy things all over! My throat, too. You know how it feels right when you swallow?..that's how my throat felt constantly. I was completely freaked out as hubby was at work and I was home alone with my 4 kids. So we hauled booty to the clinic and sure enough, allergic reaction to the antibiotic. I'm actually allergic to penicillin as well, so the doctor I saw said she was really surprised my other doctor would have prescribed a sulfer drug to me as it has a high instance of causing allergic reactions. hhhmmm...thanks.
Anyway she said I could take benadaryl, but better yet, Claritin. She said Claritin won't make you drowsy and will knock it right out (you should take benadryl instead of claritin if you're breastfeeding though). That was yesterday, and besides some weird mottled look on my legs (leftover rash), all seems well.

On my six day of taking this medication I awoke in the middle of the night with a fever of 101 and was shaking almost uncontrollably due to chills. The next morning, the fever subsided but I began noticing red, rash-like dots all over my arms, legs, and torso. After doing some research on this medication and learning about some of the possible SERIOUS side effects I decided to go to the emergency room. The ER doctor told me I did not have "Stevens Johnson Syndrom" (my original fear) and prescribed me some Benadryl and Prednazone. A day later the rash has not improved and seems to be a little worse. The areas are red and feel warm--almost like a sunburn. I'm obsessed over this and am wondering if the doctor misdiagnosed me. Has anyone who developed a fever/rash from this drug and remember how long it lasted? Even tho the ER doctor released me, should I question this?

I was given Sulfameth/Trimethoprim for a suspected spider bite that became infected. My prescription was one tablet by mouth twice a day for 10 days. Seven days after taking my first tablet I began to feel itchy all over my body. The next morning I woke and had hives from my feet to my ears. I went the urgent care clinic and they gave me some strong antihistamines. The next day my condition was worse and I went back to the urgent care clinic and was injected with steroids. The next day my condition was even worse; the hives were horrible, itchy, red and purple patches ALL over my body and I was feeling tightening in my throat. I immediately went to ER and was admitted.

I spent 2 days in the hospital receiving steriods and fluids by IV. The thing that surprised me about this allergy was the delay from first taking the medication to the first signs that something was not right.

I know this is a very mild side effect, but I just started taking this med yesterday. About 45 minutes after the first dose, I started noticing a strange smell. As the night went on, the smell intensified. It kind of reminded me of Solarcaine Burn Cream. When I woke up the next morning I also noticed a strange taste in the back of my mouth along with the smell. I've taken 3 doses now, and other than the strange smell/taste, the only other thing I've noticed was that I've been more thirsty than usual.

I started taking sulfameth to treat a staph infection. Symptoms began after the second day of taking the medication. At first, I experienced nausea, migraines and dizziness. The next morning my eyes were sore and were a bit red. I felt drained throughout the entire day. I stopped taking the medication and cleaned the area thoroughly and daily, and it soon disappeared.

I took this medication for a sinuis infection and a UTI. After one day of taking this medication I was nauseous and my body ached. At the end of the first day I noticed a rash all over my neck. The next morning the rash had spread up to my face. I did not take anymore of this medication after reading about the side effects. The rash has slowly started to dissipate. I realized that I was more likely than allergic to this medication. I will no longer take tis medication EVER.

I started taking sulfameth about two weeks ago for a urinary tract infection, everything was fine until 5 days ago experienced real bad stomach pains, felt like I had to throw up but didnt. Woke up three days later noticed little red bumbs, thought I got bit by something. But then it spread over my stomach, chest and neck, woke up the next morning and it was all over my body.
