Sulfamethoxazole and sore throat

Thank goodness for this website! I thought "Just my luck, sick on top of a uti/kidney infection" I just got back from the Dr and he told me I only have a cold and if it bothers me that much to just stop taking the antibiotics {I mentioned reading this and he said that flu like symptoms WEREN'T side effects}

I have been takingSulfameth/trimethoprim 800/180 tabs and the pharmacist pamplet said to call my doctor with any occurance of sore throat. I have taken a total of 4 tablets 2/day and woke up with a terrible sore throat and a headache later in the day only to call my Dr. and have them tell me that this is NOT a side effect and they want me to come in for a throat culture. Honestly I'm a little Freaked out because of the risk of Stevens-Johnson's Syndrome that makes your skin peel off and can make you go blind.

I was given Sulfameth in 1996 or 1997 for a sore throat. The drug caused red dots on my legs at first and then the dots became long red streaks that followed my veins on my legs with a few streaks on my arms and chest area and in my eyes. My legs itched like crazy and felt warm to the touch. I contacted my health care center but was told this drug does not cause these kind of side effects. However, I believe it could not have been anything else. I stopped taking the drug on my own, but it took a while for the effects to go away.

I was given this medicine for a UTI on Saturday. Only 6 pills, twice a day. From the 1st day I started feeling very weak, rashes and pain on my body, stomach cramps
nervousness, head aches, loss of appetite, nightmares,
sore throat, sores on my tongue, mood swings. I took the last one yesterday morning and today I still feel very sick and the side effects are just getting worse. I can not believe I wasnt told the side effects of this medicine. I never in my life (30 years) have experienced a reaction like this to ANY medication. I can not belive this was approved to be sold.

It started with constipation, weight gain, fatigue (I attributed this to the sinus infection), nausea, irritability. I was having trouble getting to sleep. I constantly had to get up to go to the bathroom. Once I would get to sleep I would wake up every few hours. Around day 5 or 6 I started getting a horrendous headache and my neck ached. The pain was intense! My legs ached as well. I started running a fever around 100 degrees. I would be sweating one moment and cold the next. I thought I was getting a bug that was going around minus the sore throat everyone else had. I was glad that I was already on an antibiotic. Today I woke up and have a rash from my shoulders to my feet! I still have the same fever. I called my nurse practitioner and she said to discontinue the medication, take Benadryl for the symptoms and increase my water to flush it out of my system. It's clearly an allergic reaction to the meds. I am throwing the last few doses out.

A day after taking this medication, I developed an unusual, painless rash on my lower body. I experienced vivid nightmares, and actually ended up waking up in the middle of the night and crying. Towards the end of my medication, I developed a sore throat, and an unusual pain on the tip of my tongue.

i just started taking it today after getting off of amoxicillan for a sore throat- i heard that antibiotics almost always cause yeast infections in women.. but yea, ive noticed a lot of itchiness down there after finishing the amoxicillan, so im expecting more from this..

Rash developed overnight, after I have been on it for two weeks. Spread over chest, stomach, and now it has gone up my throat, shoulders, and around to cover my back as well. Starting to itch a little, but mostly painless/itchless so far. Ceasing to take medicine as of NOW and calling my doctor tomorrow. Also, have noticed sore throat the past few days.

I've been taking it for about a week and a half now and just today I woke up with a red spotted rash on my extremeties (arms, legs), and my stomach/chest area. I have a severe headache, joint weakness/stiffness, and each side of my neck is swollen but there's no sore throat. Only the glands feel very sore. When walking I feel nausea and have only vommitted once so far.
